Research reveals how order first appears in liquid crystals
Molecules in liquid crystals go from a disordered jumble to more ordered alignment with changes in temperature. But there’s evidence of an intermediate state (left) where order starts to emerge in discrete patches before arriving at the fully ordered state (right). Liquid crystals undergo a peculiar type of phase change. At a certain temperature, their cigar-shaped molecules go from a disordered jumble to a more orderly arrangement in which they all point more or less in the same direction. LCD televisions take advantage of that phase change to project different colors in moving images.
For years, however, experiments have hinted at another liquid crystal state—an intermediate state between the disordered and ordered states in which order begins to emerge in discrete patches as a system approaches its transition temperature. Now, chemists at Brown University have demonstrated a theoretical framework for detecting that intermediate state and for better understanding how it works.
“People understand the ordered and disordered behaviors very well, but the state where this transition is just about to happen isn’t well understood,” said Richard Stratt, a professor of chemistry at Brown and coauthor of a paper describing the research. “What we’ve come up with is a sort of yardstick to measure whether a system is in this state. It gives us an idea of what to look for in molecular terms to see if the state is present.”
The research, published in the Journal of Chemical Physics, could shed new light not only on liquid crystals, but also molecular motion elsewhere in nature—phenomena such as the protein tangles involved in Alzheimer’s disease, for example. The work was led by Yan Zhao, a Ph.D. student in Stratt’s lab who expects to graduate from Brown this spring.
For the study, the researchers used computer simulations of phase changes in a simplified liquid crystal system that included a few hundred molecules. They used random matrix theory, a statistical framework often used to describe complex or chaotic systems, to study their simulation results. They showed that the theory does a good job of describing the system in both the ordered and disordered states, but fails to describe the transition state. That deviation from the theory can be used as a probe to identify the regions of the material where order is beginning to emerge.
“Once you realize that you have this state where the theory doesn’t work, you can dig in and ask what went wrong,” Stratt said. “That gives us a better idea of what these molecules are doing.”
Random matrix theory predicts that the sums of uncorrelated variables—in this case, the directions in which molecules are pointing—should form a bell curve distribution when plotted on a graph. Stratt and Zhao showed that that’s true of the molecules in liquid crystals when they’re in disordered and ordered states. In the disordered state, the bell curve distribution is generated by the entirely random orientations of the molecules. In the ordered state, the molecules are aligned along a common axis, but they each deviate from it a bit—some pointing a little to the left of the axis and some a little to right. Those random deviations, like the random molecule positions in the disordered state, could be fit to a bell curve.
But that bell curve distribution fell apart just before the phase change took place, as the temperature of the system was dropping down to its transition temperature. That suggests that molecules in discrete patches in the system were becoming correlated with each other.
“You now have several sets of molecules starting to cooperate with each other, and that causes the deviations from the bell curve,” Stratt said. “It’s as if these molecules are anticipating that this fully ordered state is going to take place, but they haven’t all decided which direction they’re going to face yet. It’s a little like politics, where everybody agrees that something needs to change, but they haven’t figured out exactly what to do.”
Stratt says the work could be helpful in providing insight into what governs the effectiveness of molecular motion. In both ordered and disordered liquid crystals, molecules are free to move relatively freely. But in the intermediate state, that movement is inhibited. This state then represents a situation in which the molecular progress is starting to slow down.
“There are a lot of problems in natural science where movement of molecules is slow,” Stratt said. “The molecules in molten glass, for example, progressively slow down as the liquid cools. The protein tangles involved in Alzheimer’s disease are another example where the molecular arrangement causes the motion to be slow. But what rules are governing those molecules as they slow down? We don’t fully understand it.”
Stratt hopes that a better understanding of slow molecular movement in liquid crystals could provide a blueprint for understanding slow movement elsewhere in nature.

Patient care under uncertainty: Or why I learned to stop loving clinical practice guidelines
The National Cancer Institute defines personalized medicine as “uses information about a person’s genes, proteins, and environment to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease”. In practice, however, patient treatment is rarely personalized by individual since evidence to support complete personalization is rarely available. Personalization in practice more often means care that varies with some individual characteristics. The President‘ s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology noted that personalized medicine really simply requires: “the ability to classify individuals into subpopulations that are uniquely or disproportionately susceptible to a particular disease or responsive to a specific treatment.”
Based on this premise, it appears we have a clear solution: patients should be divided into groups having the same observed covariates and all patients within a given covariate group should receive the care that yields the highest within‐group mean welfare. This is the goal of evidence medicine. Find the best treatment for each patient group and insure physicians provide this care to patients within each group.
In what I believe will be a landmark paper, Charles Manski (2018), however, is skeptical of top-down efforts to enforce evidence-based medicine.  Further, while articles by numerous researchers (including those from the Dartmouth Atlas) have argued that the key to improving health care is to reduce unnecessary variation in health care provision, Manski argues that under uncertainty variation–or as he calls it diversification–is vital to resolve real-world uncertainty.  I encourage you to read the full paper, but I outline some key points below.
Guidelines are not mandates, but…
Although clinician guidelines are typically seen as guidelines, in practice, they may be much more binding.  Health plans and government policies may only reimburse for care that follows practice guidelines.  Thus, while the physicians making the guidelines may clearly recognize that they are suggestions for best practice that need to be tailored to individual situations, bureaucrats from health insurance plans and the government may try to enforce these guidelines so as to avoid paying for care outside of practice guidelines.
The effectiveness of clinical guidelines depends on the information available only to physicians…
Manksi considers two different forms of treatment.  In his example he examines the choice between active surveillance (option t=A) and aggressive treatment (option t=B) , but equivalently these could be two types of treatment.  The probability a treatment will work will depend on patient covariate vectors x and w, where x is observed by both the clinician and centralized decisionmakers, but covariates w are only observed by the physician.  To the extend that the unobserved patient covariates meaningfully impact treatment effectiveness (or patient utility of a treatment), centralized evidence-based guideliness will not be useful for treating individual patients; on the other hand, if the vector w is the empty set and the central planner has the same access to information as the physician, than evidence-based guidelines will be useful.  In practice, physicians most often have information not available to guidelines-makers for individual patients and thus physicians will be able to better treat patients using their own discretion rather than blindly following clinical practice guidelines.
…and how well physicians follow guidelines conditional on available information
The Manksi article notes that:
…empirical psychological research comparing evidence‐based statistical predictions with ones made by clinical judgment has concluded that the former consistently outperforms the latter when the predictions are made using the same patient covariates. The gap in performance persists even when clinical judgment uses additional covariates as predictors.
For instance, consider the case of a physician deciding whether or not to have the patient do a diagnostic test.  Phelps and Mushlin (1988) showed that physicians can make this decision optimally if they know: (a) expected patient utility of each treatment, in the absence of testing; (b) the probability distribution for the test result, and (c) expected patient utility with each treatment, with knowledge of the test result.  It is likely that physicians only have partial knowledge of these parameters.
Does this mean that despite theoretical evidence that clinical practice guidelines are inferior, in practice they may be superior?  Manski is still skeptical.
Psychologists have compared the accuracy of risk assessments and diagnoses made by statistical predictors and by clinicians, but they have not compared the accuracy of evaluations of patient preferences over (illness,treatment) outcomes. Thus, the literature has generated findings that may be informative about the accuracy of statistical and clinical assessments of Pxw(·) but not uxw(·, ·).
In short, even if physicians do not fully leverage the available information at hand and clinical guidelines may better better predict patient outcomes, physicians still have an advantage if they can better know individual patient (or classes of patient) preferences over different outcomes or health states.
The evidence underlying clinical practice guidelines has its own limitations
Further, clinical practice guidelines are themselves imperfect.  Guidelines are most often based on evidence from randomized controlled trial (RCTs).  While RCTs are the gold standard for causal inference, they are imperfect.  For instance, they typically do not capture long-run outcomes, the patient population for the trial may not be representative of patients who use the treatment in the real world, the trials may suffer from patient attrition, and treatment protocols in RCTs may not reflect real-world practices.  Previous Manski work has called applying RCT results to real-world long-term outcomes “wishful extrapolation”.
Manski raises some other concerns as well. The first is that the hypothesis testing used for FDA approval picks a sample size for some clinically meaningful threshold. The hypothesis test is then applied assuming a 5% type I error and a 20% type II error. While this approach helps for regulatory purposes by applying a consistent standard, in some cases, a type I error may be much worse than a type II error and in other cases the reverse may be true. Second, the clinical trial journal articles upon which guidelines are based typically do not report outcomes based on patient covariates or if they do only do so for a limited set of covariates and hardly ever report outcomes interacting covariates. While reporting results for patient covariates is becoming more common, if the absence of reporting these results the ability to apply personalized medicine based on clinical trial results is limited. The YODA Project advocates for sharing of clinical trial data and having more investigators submit clinical trial data to open-source repositories would help to further the mission of personalized data.
What to do?
So both physicians and clinical guidelines are imperfect. We already knew that. What should we be doing?
Manski recommends applying a framework from decision theory under uncertainty. The clinician should first eliminate dominated treatment options. Then, they should choose among the undominated options. This should simple but Manski notes that:
…there is no optimal way to choose among undominated alternatives. There are only various reasonable ways, each with its own properties.
Many statisticians recommend using a Bayesian approach. In this framework, the decision-maker would place a subjective probability distribution on the unknown parameters  and maximize subjective expected utility. While this approach is attractive, how does one pick the subjective probability distribution as that in and of itself is a form of knowledge?  Thus, Bayesian approaches are attractive for statisticians, but may be more difficult to implement in practice.
Other alternatives include the maxmin (MM) and mini-max-regret (MR).
The maximin criterion chooses an action that maximizes the minimum welfare that might possibly occur. The mini-max‐regret criterion considers each state of nature and computes the loss in welfare that would occur if one were to choose a specified action rather than the one that is best in this state. This quantity, called regret, measures the nearness to optimality of the specified action in the state of nature…To achieve a uniformly satisfactory result, he computes the maximum regret of each action; that is, the maximum distance from optimality that the action would yield across all possible states of nature. The MR criterion chooses an action that minimizes this maximum distance from optimality.
While applying the MR is useful in theory and may replicate some of physician and patient’s own decision-making, an alternative approach is to use the empirical success (ES) rule. The empirical success rule simply chooses the treatment within the RCT with the highest observed average outcome in the trial.   Previous research has shown that ES generally chooses the same treatment option as MR.
The benefits of variation in practice patterns
Manski argues that variation in practice patterns is good for two reasons. The first is diversification. If we knew with certainty that treatment A was better than treatment B, then everyone should use treatment A. In practice, there is uncertainty. Thus, if an RCT says A is better than B, but we later learn that that is not the case or that A is only superior for some patient populations, it is better for physicians to be able to access treatment B as an alternative option. In a simple case, consider that treatment A is superior to B, but later manufacturing of A has lead it to become tainted and poisonous. Having access to treatment B is beneficial in this case.
A second benefit is learning. As the real-world sample size is likely to be larger than the clinical trial setting, one could benefit from variation in practice patterns to monitor real world outcomes. In the case of drug treatments, small RCTs may not be sufficient to discover rare but very severe side effects for both treatment arms. Thus, variation in practice patterns allows for this real-world learning.
What do others think of the article?
Commentaries on Manski’s paper from Emma McIntosh, Karl Claxton, and Anirban Basu are also available in the same issue of Health Economics.  McIntosh summarizes the article and is generally supportive of Manski’s ideas, whereas Claxton–while agreeing with many of Manski’s principles–is more supportive of the use of need for guidelines in practice and the use of Bayesian decision theory to create these guidelines.  Basu mentions the use of passive personalization (see Basu et al. 2013) whereby physicians learn‐by‐doing and make individualized decisions for patients evening the absence of scientific evidence.  Clinical practice guidelines could serve as a baseline guidelines for physicians who then use their own experience to in essence update their prior based on their own personal history with different treatments and patient characteristics.

Statement of Purpose The New Art Center's Curatorial Opportunity Program (COP) supports independent curators of contemporary art by making diverse visions possible in a non-profit and alternative exhibition space. The program investigates contemporary culture through the visual arts, exhibits strong curatorial voices, and encourages the timely examination of new ideas and perspectives. The New Art Center (NAC) are currently accepting curatorial proposals for 5- to 7-week group exhibitions from September 2019 – May 2020 at the New Art Center in Newton. We will only accept electronic submissions received by June 5, 2018. No extensions will be granted and no paper applications will be accepted. 2. Background Information Since 1991, NAC has used its Main Gallery for group exhibitions (two artists or more) curated by an exhibiting artist or independent curator. We continue this tradition through the COP, our annual public call for curatorial proposals. Our Main Gallery is one of the few mid-sized nonprofit exhibition spaces in New England, which attracts over 5,000 visitors each year. The gallery occupies the hall of a former church, with 25-foot vaulted ceilings, substantial natural light, and several movable wall panels. The space is approximately 2,500 square feet, with an average width of 39 feet and an average length of 40+ feet. A visit to the gallery prior to application is advised and encouraged, if possible. Two curatorial workshops, led by local curators, will be held on March 14 and April 25 from 7-9 PM. Prospective applicants are encouraged (though not required) to attend one of these workshops to hear more about the curatorial process and have questions about the program answered by NAC staff. Scope of Work Required:
Proposals must include works by two artists or more.
Proposals must include one public program with an educational component; more than one is encouraged (see ‘proposed public programs’ under Criteria, below).
In proposals including one’s own work, that work should not be the main focus of the exhibition, and should only be included if it supports the thesis. Artists wishing to include their own artwork in the proposal must be willing to eliminate their own work if the panel feels that such a cut would strengthen the exhibition. 
Additional Considerations:                
The proposed exhibitions can include works in a single medium or several media, from painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and video to installation, performance, and sound art. A variety of media or diverse use of similar media is recommended.
Exhibitions may be organized around medium or process
Exhibitions may investigate social, cultural, historical, theoretical or political concepts
Strong applications are centered on a curatorial concept that ties the work together (see "4.Decision Criteria")
NAC Support For each exhibition, the New Art Center provides a curator stipend to be applied to exhibition-related expenses at the curator's discretion. The stipend is awarded after the opening reception. Curators and artists are encouraged to consult with the NAC to seek outside funding to enhance their exhibition program(s) or invitation, or to provide for additional advertising. The NAC receives a 50% commission on sales of any works in the exhibitions.  The NAC provides:
a set budget for printing of a postcard invitation
a $1,000 USD curator stipend
public relations support such as sending press releases to press venues
advertisements, extensive listings, emails to our 10,000+ person mailing list, and posts to our social media feeds
duplication of material for distribution at the exhibition
gallery signage
insurance up to $150,000 in total for art work while it is at the NAC
physical assistance in preparing the space and installing the work
an opening reception with refreshments
The NAC does not provide (or pay for):
transportation of artworks or artists to or from the NAC
installation construction beyond basic installation and wall configuration
4. Decision Criteria
Quality of the work to be shown: Note - though submission of artists' resumes is required, artists who lack substantial exhibition records and experience will still be considered.
Clarity, subtlety, and power of the underlying curatorial concept: Proposed exhibitions must articulate a clear central idea, convincingly supported by the work included. This idea, or thesis, must be expressed in a brief curator's statement of concept. This is required whether the central idea is simply strong aesthetic resonance between works in a single medium or complex theoretical or academic dialogue presented across multiple media.
Proposed public programs: The Curatorial Opportunity Program helps advance the New Art Center’s educational mission by using the galleries to enhance the experience of NAC’s students and guests. Proposals must include at least one educational component connected with the exhibition, the goal of which is to place the exhibition, the art practices, and the curatorial practice into the larger context of contemporary art for a general public. This can consist of a panel discussion, gallery talk, ongoing interactive presentations, activities geared toward engaging the NAC’s daily student population or related presentations and/or performances in other mediums.
Capability of the curator to carry out the project: In addition to working with the Exhibitions Director on the exhibition design and installation, curators are also responsible for communicating with the artists. This includes assuring timely delivery of press materials, adherence to agreed-upon artwork delivery and pickup times, etc. The curator and artists are expected to work with the Exhibitions Manager to assure that all necessary tasks are accomplished and deadlines are met.
5. Eligibility                                All artists and curators are eligible regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, belief, national origin, sexual orientation or physical abilities. While artists and curators from the greater Boston area are encouraged to participate, there are no geographic restrictions. Please keep in mind that the NAC does not pay for travel expenses or shipping of artwork (or insurance of artwork in transit to or from NAC). Proposals will not be considered for one-person exhibitions or if they envision a general call to artists. Please plan ahead. No paper applications will be accepted and no extensions will be granted. NAC exhibitions staff will be available to answer last minute questions from 1-5 PM. It is reccomended that you submit your application in advance of the deadline to allow time for unforseen technical difficulties.
Applications are reviewed by a group of professional artists, curators, educators, museum and gallery personnel / staff, NAC staff and NAC community members.  
The panel reviews the application and support materials for the quality of the exhibition concept, the quality of work, educational potential, and clarity.
NAC staff may contact the applicant’s professional references and/or request to meet with finalists as part of the selection process. The review process may also include a phone interview or studio visit to view actual work.
COP awards will be announced to the recipients in August of 2018. No phone calls please.
The New Art Center will determine the schedule for COP exhibitions. Restrictions on scheduling flexibility must be stated in the application’s Curator Statement of Concept.

Net Neutrality is gone.  Good riddance.
Lost in all of the theoretical debate about how evil ISPs will create a have/have-not divide in Internet access, is the reality that it already exists along with massive subsidies to the biggest bandwidth pigs on the planet – Facebook, Google, Twitter, Netflix and the porn industry.
Under Net Neutrality these platforms flourished along with the rise of the mobile internet, which is now arguably more important than the ‘desktop’ one in your home and office.  Google and Apple control the on-ramps to the mobile web in a way that Net Neutrality proponents can only dream the bandwidth providers like Comcast and AT&T could.
Because, in truth, they can’t.  Consumers are ultimately the ones who decide how much bandwidth costs, not the ISPs.  We decide how much we can afford these creature comforts like streaming Netflix while riding the bus or doing self-indulgent Instagram videos of our standing in line at the movies (if that’s even a thing anymore).
Non-Neutrality Pricing
Net Neutrality took pricing of bandwidth out of the hands of consumers.  It handed the profits from it to Google, Facebook and all the crappy advertisers spamming video ads, malware, scams, and the like everywhere.
By mandating ‘equal access’ and equal fee structures the advertisers behind Google and Facebook would spend their budgets without much thought or care.  Google and Facebook ad revenue soared under Net Neutrality because advertisers’ needs are not aligned with Google’s bottom line, but with consumers’.
And, because of that, the price paid to deliver the ad, i.e. Google’s cost of goods sold (COGS), thanks to Net Neutrality, was held artificially low.  And Google, Facebook and the Porn Industry pocketed the difference.
They grew uncontrollably.  In the case of Google and Facebook, uncontrollably powerful.
That difference was never passed onto the ISP who could then, in turn, pass it on to the consumer.
All thanks to Net Neutrality.
Undercapitalized Growth
With the rise of the mobile web bandwidth should have been getting cheaper and easier to acquire at a much faster rate than it has.  But, it couldn’t because of Net Neutrality.  It kept rates of return on new bandwidth projects and new technology suppressed.
Money the ISP’s should have been spending laying more fiber, putting up more cell towers, building better radios went to Google to fritter away on endless projects that never see the light of day.
The ISP’s actually suffered under Net Neutrality and so did the consumers.
And therefore, Net Neutrality guaranteed that the infrastructure for new high-speed bandwidth would grow at the slowest possible rate, still governed by the maximum the consumer was willing to pay for bandwidth, rather than what the consumer actually demanded.
And, once obtained that power was then used to punish anyone who held different opinions from the leadership in Silicon Valley.
Think it through, Net Neutrality not only subsidized intrusive advertising, phishing scams and on-demand porn but also the very censorship these powerful companies now feel is their sacred duty to enforce because the government is now controlled by the bad guys.
Getting rid of Net Neutrality will put the costs of delivering all of this worthless content back onto the people serving it.  YouTube will become more expensive for Google and all of the other content delivery networks.  Facebook video will eat into its bottom line.
The ISP’s can and should throttle them until they ‘pay their fair share,’ which they plainly have not been.
The Net effect of Net Neutrality is that your ISP may charge you more in the short run for Netflix or Hulu.  Or, more appropriately, Netflix and Hulu will have to charge you more and we’ll find out what the real cost of delivering 4k streaming content to your iPhone actually costs.
But, those costs will then go to the ISP’s such that they can respond to demand for more bandwidth.  Will they try and overcharge us?  Of course.  AT&T is just as bad as Google and/or Facebook.
But, we have the right to say no.  To stop using the services the way Net Neutrality encouraged us to through mispricing of service.  If the ISP’s want more customers then they’ll have to bring wire out to the hinterlands.
Inflated Costs, Poor Service
Net Neutrality proponents kept telling us this was the way to help keep the internet available to the poor and the rural.  Nonsense.  It kept the internet from expanding properly into the hinterlands.
I live just over the county line in rural North Florida.  To the south is a town with cable and DSL.   Between cable franchise monopolies retarding expansion across county lines and Net Neutrality keeping margins thin, my home was 10 years behind everyone else getting decent bandwidth to keep up with the needs of the modern Internet.
Bandwidth needs artificially inflated, I might add, by the misaligned cost structure engendered by Net Neutrality in the first place.
It took forever for my phone provider to upgrade the bandwidth across the county line.  I begged them for a second line for internet service, they wouldn’t even talk to me.  Why?  The return on that new line wasn’t high enough for them.
If Google was passing some of the profits from Adwords onto the ISPs I’d have multiple choices for high-speed internet versus just one DSL provider.
As always, whenever the political left tries to protect the poor they wind up making things worse for them.
The Ways Forward
The news is good for a variety of reasons. With Net Neutrality gone a major barrier to entry for content delivery networks is gone.
Blockchain companies are building systems which cut the middle man out completely, allowing content creators to be directly tipped for their work versus being supported by advertising no one watches, wants or is swayed by.
Services like Steemit and the distributed application already built and to be built on it point the way to social media cost models which are sustainable and align the incentives properly between producers of content and consumers.
Steem internalizes the bandwidth costs of using the network and pays itself a part of its token reward pool to cover those costs.  So, all that’s left is content producer and their fans.  Advertisers are simply not needed to maintain the network.
Net Neutrality was a trojan horse designed to replicate the old shout-based advertising model of the golden age of print and TV advertising.  It was a way to control the megaphone and promote a particular point of view.
Look no further than the main proponents of it.  George Soros and the Ford Foundation are two of the biggest lobbyists for Net Neutrality.  Only the political left and its Marxian fantasies of evil middle men creating monopolies fell for the lies, as they were supposed to.
The rest of us were like, “Really?  This is not a problem.”  And it wasn’t until you looked under the hood and realized all they stood to gain by it.
Now, with Net Neutrality gone the underlying problem can be addressed; franchise monopolies of cable and phone companies in geographic areas.  These laws are still in effect.  They still hang like a spectre over the entire industry.  Like Net Neutrality, these laws concentrate capital into the hands of the few providers big enough to keep out the competition.
So, instead of championing the end of franchise monopolies, which county governments love because they get a sizable cut of the revenue to fund non-essential programs, the Left made things worse by championing Net Neutrality.
That also needs to end.  Even if you believe that franchise monopolies were, at one point, necessary.  They are not now.  IP-based communication is now fundamentally different than copper wire for discrete services like phone and cable.  Let people run all the copper and fiber they want.  There’s plenty of room in the conduit running under our sidewalks and streets.
Let a thousand flowers bloom, as the great Lew Rockwell once told me.
Then and only then will the Internet be free.

Armstrong (2001) says, "The basic Assumption is that the variable ui!! continue in the future as it has behaved in the past. " Particularly, the time series predictions are suitable for stochastic type of data in
which the fundamental root cause of variation like, trend, cyclical performance, seasonality, and uneven variations, do not change radically m time. Therefore, modeling is considered to be more suitable temporarily instead of permanent predictions.

 Problem of Transportation Routes (20 Marks)
 The N&C Bank in Thailand is one of the biggest banks. There are 377 branches in Bangkok and 3 distribution centers. Presently, it has experienced drivers who take to the transportation routes. 27 vehicles are used on the 29 routes whose capacity is the same. Two of the vehicles do overtime with taking two trips each day. Some of the problems faced by N&S and formulated are: Each trip will begin from its respective depot and end there. The route will remain the same both morning and evening. The travelling time taken between each branch is a known location and correct. The company is aware of 'the demand for capital of each branch. Time of processing for every stop is same. for each branch. Some of the limitations of this problem are: The volume of each vehicle is firmly implemented by the insurance value per trip. Each branch's hours of functioning depends upon its location. If the location is in the department store, then the working hours will be from 11 am to 8 pin. If the location is anywhere else, the working hours would be from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm. The processing capacity of every depot or the distribution center (DC) is diverse at the ratio of 50:30:20.
Each distribution center works from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. N&C aims at increasing the transportation services along with the current resources. N&C has three distribution centers which look after the picking up and delivery of cash to and from every branch each day at different timings. The most appropriate method for this problem would be the multiple depot routing problems with time limit.Nevertheless, the new routes can bring changes in everyday process, i.e., change in requirements, processing time, etc, hence, N&C requires a method to give results in a short time operations. Two main methods are used. First, development problem •is utilized. and capacitate VRPTW (vehicle routing problem with time) is utilized later. The assignment problem gathers 377 branches into 3 groups, with each belonging to each distribution center and VRP'IW makes daily routes for each distribution center. Consignment Problem method is used for giving the tasks to the agents mating their positions, which can give a very competent result. Vehicle rouong problem is the CVRP (capacitate vehicle routing problem), a pr' Herb where all its customers need to be satisfied, awareness of dumbfounds, and identifying all vetides, constrained capacity and based at a central depot. The aim is to reduce the fleet of \•vehicles and total commuting time at the same time as, total requirement of goods for each route should not go beyond the capacity of the vehicle which plies on that route. Restaurants can avoid losing customers because of long waiting queues. Some restaurants have chairs to help customers sit and wait, which they put on the safe side, and remove the chairs as time goes on. The restaurant management needs to understand the situation in a better way through numerical model. A data was taken from a restaurant in Jakarta. Little's Theorem and M/Ml queuing model was used to get the ration of arrival, service, utilization, waiting time and likelihood of probable customers. At Sushi Tei, the customers' arrival rate during the busiest time of the day is 2.22 customers/minute (cpm), while the service is 2.24 cpm. The average number of customers is 1.22 and that of utilization period is 0.991. The study of queuing or waiting lines is called the Queuing Theory. The evaluation taken after using the Queuing Theory includes expected waiting time in line, average time in the system, length of the line, anticipated number of customers being served at one time, possibility of customers that cringe, and the possibility of the system in some states, like unoccupied or occupied. This data was taken after the interviewing the restaurant manager of Sushi Tei, and the data collected through the observations at the restaurant. The rate of visiting customers was taken from the restaurant. The restaurant used to keep a record of its everyday routine work. The manager of the restaurant was interviewed to find about the capacity of the restaurant, number of waiters and waitresses working there, and also the number of cooks. It was observed that the M/M/1 operation was best suited for the queuing model of the restaurant. This shows , that the time of arrival and service are distributed proportionately. The system .of the restaurant contained only one server. It was observed that, though there were a number of waitresses in the restaurant, only one cook was there to serve all the customers. According to the analysis done on the functioning of the restaurant, on an average each customer would spend 55 minutes, the length of the queue is approx. 36 customers, and the waiting time rs apprc;. 15 i ! minutes on average. It is seen that the waiting time is not different from the theoretical waiting time. it is assumed that the possible customers will begin to withdraw on seeing more than 10 people ahead of them in the queue. It is also observed that, on average, the customer can only tolerate 40 people in the queue. Since the capacity of the restaurant is for 120 customers when fully occupied, the possibility of 10 customers in a queue can be calculated as against 130 in the system, i.e., 120 occupants in the restaurant and 10 or more waiting in the queue. A simulation model will be developed for the restaurant. Through this simulation, the analytical model results can be attained. Also, the simulation model will help in adding more difficulty so the model can reflect the exact operation of the restaurant more personally.

 The N&C Bank in Thailand is one of the biggest banks. There are 377 branches in Bangkok and 3 distribution centers. Presently, it has experienced drivers who take to the transportation routes. 27 vehicles are used on the 29 routes whose capacity is the same. Two of the vehicles do overtime with taking two trips each day. Some of the problems faced by N&S and formulated are: Each trip will begin from its respective depot and end there. The route will remain the same both morning and evening. The travelling time taken between each branch is a known location and correct. The company is aware of 'the demand for capital of each branch. Time of processing for every stop is same. for each branch. Some of the limitations of this problem are: The volume of each vehicle is firmly implemented by the insurance value per trip. Each branch's hours of functioning depends upon its location. If the location is in the department store, then the working hours will be from 11 am to 8 pin. If the location is anywhere else, the working hours would be from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm. The processing capacity of every depot or the distribution center (DC) is diverse at the ratio of 50:30:20.
Each distribution center works from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. N&C aims at increasing the transportation services along with the current resources. N&C has three distribution centers which look after the picking up and delivery of cash to and from every branch each day at different timings. The most appropriate method for this problem would be the multiple depot routing problems with time limit.Nevertheless, the new routes can bring changes in everyday process, i.e., change in requirements, processing time, etc, hence, N&C requires a method to give results in a short time operations. Two main methods are used. First, development problem •is utilized. and capacitate VRPTW (vehicle routing problem with time) is utilized later. The assignment problem gathers 377 branches into 3 groups, with each belonging to each distribution center and VRP'IW makes daily routes for each distribution center. Consignment Problem method is used for giving the tasks to the agents mating their positions, which can give a very competent result. Some restaurants have chairs to help customers sit and wait, which they put on the safe side, and remove the chairs as time goes on. Nevertheless, putting waiting chair is 9ot the onl/' solution when the customers would go back and prefer going to another place, there ls a need to improve the service time. The restaurant management needs to understand the situation in a better way through numerical model. A data was taken from a restaurant in Jakarta. Little's Theorem and M/Ml queuing model was used to get the ration of arrival, service, utilization, waiting time and likelihood of probable customers. At Sushi Tei, the customers' arrival rate during the busiest time of the day is 2.22 customers/minute (cpm), while the service is 2.24 cpm. The average number of customers is 1.22 and that of utilization period is 0.991. The study of queuing or waiting lines is called the Queuing Theory. The evaluation taken after using the Queuing Theory includes expected waiting time in line, average time in the system, length of the line, anticipated number of customers being served at one time, possibility of customers that cringe, and the possibility of the system in some states, like unoccupied or occupied. This data was taken after the interviewing the restaurant manager of Sushi Tei, and the data collected through the observations at the restaurant. The rate of visiting customers was taken from the restaurant. The restaurant used to keep a record of its everyday routine work. The manager of the restaurant was interviewed to find about the capacity of the restaurant, number of waiters and waitresses working there, and also the number of cooks. It was observed that the M/M/1 operation was best suited for the queuing model of the restaurant. This shows , that the time of arrival and service are distributed proportionately. The system .of the restaurant contained only one server. It was observed that, though there were a number of waitresses in the restaurant, only one cook was there to serve all the customers. According to the analysis done on the functioning of the restaurant, on an average each customer would spend 55 minutes, the length of the queue is approx. 36 customers, and the waiting time rs apprc;. 15 i ! minutes on average. It is seen that the waiting time is not different from the theoretical waiting time. it is assumed that the possible customers will begin to withdraw on seeing more than 10 people ahead of them in the queue. It is also observed that, on average, the customer can only tolerate 40 people in the queue. Since the capacity of the restaurant is for 120 customers when fully occupied, the possibility of 10 customers in a queue can be calculated as against 130 in the system, i.e., 120 occupants in the restaurant and 10 or more waiting in the queue. A simulation model will be developed for the restaurant. Through this simulation, the analytical model results can be attained. Also, the simulation model will help in adding more difficulty so the model can reflect the exact operation of the restaurant more personally.
