The Mystery of Aaravos The Banter Lodge

So, recently an account called "The Banter Lodge" has popped up. April 30th, to be precise. You've seen it. I've seen it. We've all seen it. On Twitter, posting various images in the TDP official style.

A few nights ago, it debuted on Tumblr as well. "Coming May 2024" all of the promotional images and the website itself say.

Who is this account? Is it fan made, is it official? It's May, when exactly in "May 2024" is it coming?

Well, me and a few friends took some time to try to piece the mystery together, and so -- while it may still be 'coming', only dropping hints, I am here to tell you what I know now!

History

Website Code ( I love computer programming so I took the time to dive into that!)

Purpose

A. History

Who's Running the Banter Lodge?

To know that, first we need to delve into the history of the Twitter account.

Despite these images and site debuting less than a month ago, the account itself was founded way back in 2022, and originally called @BantherLodge, with an H, as it is in the show.

@BantherLodge is no longer available, and while it initially did not seem to be connected to The Banter Lodge, there are several interactions linked to the current one, Banter Lodge without an H.

In fact, here is the same tweets linked to the current (banter) account version.

Now we've established that @'BantherLodge' and @'BanterLodge' the same account with a changed name and identity, here is the most important past interaction:

@‘bantherlodge’ is mentioned here, and they are on this call. that said, WHO IS REALLY BEHIND BANTER LODGE? well based off the tweet, it seems that it’s 6 members of the cast and then 2 guests, @‘thebantherlodge’ and @‘ladytheebug’. But don’t take my word for it. Here, more confirmation:

Another person in the call happened to tweet about it too, this time with labels.

Now let’s take a closer look at these two guests. Sara @‘ladytheebug’ seems to be the one on the right, and by process of elimination, on the left is ‘bantherlodge’. aka:

Max the Mystery! ‘Sara’ and ‘Max’ isn’t really enough information to know more along with no connection to other socials so it’s hard to pin down who they are or what connections to previous fandom projects or creative projects in general they might have. However, they are still connected.

Besides the partially deleted various back and forths between these two accounts, this tweet about the Bait screensaver in the background is additional confirmation that this is @‘bantherlodge’ and @‘ladytheebug’: (note use of word ‘our’)

FURTHERMORE:

Said TV embodies this duo: A person who loves Bait (evident from so many of their tweets) and a person who loves the Banther Lodge…

Reminds you of something, doesn’t it?

“but hold on, just because there’s all these coincidences doesn’t mean the account could be passed on to someone else to run this.” Ok, but one last thing. If that was the case, why would they still be following Sara? In fact, it’s the Only person that they’re following besides TDPO?

(and their following has even been recently updated within the last few days as before then it didn’t include Eugene and Boone.) So, in conclusion,

Max of @‘BantherLodge’, and possibly Sara, (with or without TDPO but I’ll get to that later) almost certainly are the people behind the curtain of this Banter Lodge mystery.

Now, about said mystery… what exactly is the trail building up to?

well, to find out more about that, let’s glean what we can from the website.

B. Website Secrets

The website itself is very simple- A background, the image of the Banter House, and some text saying "Coming May 2024." But, beneath the deceptively simple surface, there was more to be found.

On May 1st Caprinae got this from the page. She also tweeted about it, after which the site changed to remove much of the css, including the part about the episodes and subscribe button. I was pretty excited about this as someone with a few years of coding experience, I wanted to mess around in VSC and see what I could find out.

After formatting the code the most noticeable thing is this right?

And when I make an element for it to apply to (since all that code is just formatting for stuff on the page like the title, images, etc, in this case- an audio bar) + adding in an image and an audio file:

We get this

AUDIO and an image. It looks exactly like a podcast episode. It turns out there’s actually a bunch of code for formatting that’s not used in elements in the site (elements that exist: the title or image), but it’s there, so I made some elements it would apply to. technically, it’s supposed to have a parchment paper background too, but I just chose some colors that you could see the text on.

Doing so, we get this!

Anyway, so the site (at least at the stage the code was taken from) doesn’t appear to be finished and there was no Java script written (or at least, linked) but there is definitely the makings for a website for a podcast— some sort of nav bar with the episodes, on an episode page, the image and audio, and then a subscribe link at the bottom!

C. Purpose

Time to speculate on the real identity and purpose of the Banter Lodge. So far, we know it used to be called the Banther Lodge. We know it seems to be run by [insert here.] We know it is almost certainly a podcast of some sort. But what, and why?

Here are some possibilites:

1.Official Content to Tide Over Fans Til S6 As we know, to calm the frustration of fans at Netflix/TDP for the delay of S6, the creators have been putting out content every day for the fans to puzzle over and figure out the season six titles.

Based on the current schedule, it’s set to end on May 13.—although it could be ending either May 13 or May 14 (depending when they do the last hint) after these drop, there will likely be a lull in TDP content, which would be the perfect time for the Banter Lodge to launch.

+ The Banter Lodge teaser campaign has already been perfectly timed for when a bunch of fans would be online on Twitter checking in for clues to begin with.

If this is official content, it would doubly make sense—it’d be timed perfectly to tie the fans over until the actual season six campaign starts (ie, trailer). Considering these two fans also somehow got to have a private panel with the cast, it’s not impossible that they’d be working with TDP on this content, additionally the teaser images put out this far have been somewhat reminiscent of TDP official content—ie, Callum’s lodge notebook->Callum’s sketchbook, Refractions->Reflections, Dear Callum letter from Rayla, design style, etc.

However, there is one big reason I don’t think this is the case: it’s a little too sloppy. For example, if they wanted it to be completely anonymous and unclear what was happening, the tweet mentioning @‘BantherLodge’ in the panel would have been deleted and there wouldn’t have been any hints in the code. Of course, these could still just be honest mistakes. However, it also seems like it is building off of the current world in a more derivative, fan-content fashion, not necessarily adding new material the way TDP Official tends to. It’s copying the official style,—but almost too much if that makes sense.

Like altering a shot from the show for a teaser.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the way that they’re building off the world, I’m excited to see where it leads, but for whatever reason, to me, it just doesn’t seem official.

So assuming it’s made by fans, what kind of podcast is it? Second possibility—

2. Fan Made Talk Show

This seems like the most obvious conclusion, considering that The Banter House is a play on a location in TDP, and the word banter, which is synonymous with talking, but specifically back and forth, genial interactions.

Maybe it’s dedicated to analyzing the show or a particular aspect,—maybe centric to the lodge, crystals, Bait and Stella—maybe even interviewing cast/crew!

Well, to get a better idea of what niche it might be filling, let’s take a look at what TDP podcasts are already out there.

Hot Brown Morning Potion Podcast [2019-2023] Hosted by Tamika "Kuno" Williams and Hailey from Cartoon Universe. This podcast [is] full of answering fan questions, interviews, theories and all kinds of discussions on everything Dragon Prince.

News from the Breach [2020-2024] Your hosts Ceilidh and Yana are watching The Dragon Prince from start to finish. Each season of the podcast covers one “Book” (or season) of the Netflix series The Dragon Prince. In each episode we discuss two chapters of the series, except for the season finales.

Calm Chaos Club [2023] Join Kevlar and Lou each week as they discuss topics about animation, design, and all things related to The Dragon Prince on Netflix! With special guests brought on for unique topics and insights into the creative process, these bite-sized episodes will ensure you can get your TDP fix in anywhere and anytime.

There’s no harm in another talk show but as there are a few out there already (and for other reasons) I personally think this is not necessarily the niche the banter Lodge is going to fill. I mean, I do think that it’s still possible I mean, it could be centric to particular aspect around the lodge as mentioned.

However, there’s a possibility that excites me a lot more, that I’m hoping for the most….

3.Fan Made Audio Drama in the Saga Setting I have personally always been a huge fan of audio drama podcasts (TMA,TPP,WTNV) and if there was a dragon Prince audio drama podcast, I think I would just die on the spot honestly from joy. I also think it’s most likely because all of the clues so far have been very story/worldbuilding oriented, as well as writings from familiar characters’ perspectives. It seems as though a story is being crafted here, and I am all for it.

Y’know what? While we’re here on the topic of storytelling podcasts, we might as well throw in D&D/TTRPG or even Tales of Xadia as a possibility because yeah sure. Why not? I mean, tabletop role-play games also involve a lot of talking so it would fit the banter theme. Who knows.

Maro’s The Lord of the Rings Teaser

Before previews for The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth ™ officially begin, I thought it would be fun to do another of my Duelist-style teasers where I give tiny hints of things to come. Note that I’m only giving you partial information.  

 

First up, here are some things you can expect:  

• five different card types get the legendary supertype

• a decently sized “legendary matters” theme

• new nonmana ward costs  

• a mechanic returns but now references a different creature type

• a card that makes a Smaug creature token  

• two three-color and one four-color legendary creature to go along with the five-color one already previewed

• a lot of one-of “creature type matters” cards

• a mechanic returns that I had to fight tooth and nail to get into the set it premiered in

• a new creature type gets its own equip cost

SEGA announces two debut Sonic Symphony World Tour events in London and Los Angeles

SEGA announced a new Sonic Symphony World Tour series, with tour dates scheduled this September in London, UK and Los Angeles, CA.

It's a follow-up to the the iconic 30th Anniversary presentation in 2021, and last year's Brazil Game Show performance ahead of the release of Sonic Frontiers.

Tour dates

The London presentation will be held at the Barbican Hall, while Los Angeles will host its presence at the Dolby Theatre. Doors will open at 7:00 pm local time, and the show will begin an hour later.

16 September 2023 at the Barbican Hall in London, UK.

30 September 2023 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.

Ticket sales for each event begin 26 May 2023 at 10:00 am local time, and newsletter subscribers can grab pre-sale tickets on 25 May.

What to expect

Expect an immersive "musical journey through the colorful world of Sonic the Hedgehog," with "classic 8-bit and 16-bit tunes to rock and EDM songs."

Why "two cities" for a world tour?

The company characterized the two events as "debut performances", though it was reassured that more events are expected to appear in 2024.

Meanwhile, a mailing list on the official website invited people to "find out when [the Tour] is coming near you."

While it isn't clear if Sonic Symphony will be coming to other countries, this is certainly something Sonic fans will want to keep their eyes very open.

✹ … ⥁ A DAY IN LOOP NEWS: APRIL 30TH, 2024 (1/3): After six years in operation, New Wave Music declares bankrupcy and immediate shut down.

Announced and held on the same day by New Wave Music's founder and CEO Seo Chanhyuk, an emergency public press conference has been held on company grounds this tuesday (April 30th) announcing the immediate termination of the record label - stated in the CEO's opening speech to be privately inactive since early April:

"Our last act as New Wave Music, a fully operating entertainment company, was the release of LOOPiN's single album 'Reason: Start', on March 23rd. Although imperfect and not done according to the members and the staff idealized vision, it was the way found by our superiors to share the work of our artists while keeping the transparecy needed to protect our shareholders and colaborators in our final moments. For the rushed release that has hurt the people that allowed us to go this far, we deeply and sincerely apologize."

As the points of major highlight in the short interview, comes the fate of New Wave's current groups: rookie girl group PASS(i)ONE (2024 -) and boy group LOOPiN (2018 -):

"As a compromise to PASS(i)ONE's promotional contract with Mnet and the CJM Group as the winner of 'Be The One', due on March 1st, we've put all our resources to make their debut meet the required expectations. We're proud to say that, despite all complications, we have succeded and proudly repaid our dept to our partner companies. But we can't go on any longer; we can't take PASS(i)ONE any further."

PASS(i)ONE is a nine membered girl group debuted on February 26th, three months after their extremely successful 3 member run on Mnet's survival reality show 'Be The One', where small and medium companies sent trios made out of their close to premiere trainee teams, all in chance of winning a highly sponsored debut in the first semester of 2024. The group is made up Dahyung, Cai, Chaeun, Bless, Kendall, Wanee, Furumi, Yeji and Marcie, all no longer signed to New Wave Music. Their future is currently unknown, altought CEO Seo hints over the conference that they're not disbanded.

Regarding the future of LOOPiN, however, the CEO declares himself unable to speak on:

"LOOPiN has always taken pride in being a self-producing, self-fulfilling act. We've terminated our exclusive contracts with all member colaborators on March 28th, and since then I have personally encouraged their persue for new agencies. released on the group's seventh anniversary, REALBONG is significantly more popular than EVILBONG, which says a lot, considering the first lightstick received almost a million pre-orders not even two weeks after being announced. the second one doubled that during the same period, making it the most wanted lightstick from GLASSHOUSE artists. the new design is made to look like a dome cage instead of their simple look and the lights are coming from the crystal inside of the cage, made to look like a torch once turned on. instead of their signature serpent brooch, REALBONG has an intricate design that no one seems to guess correctly as to what it is. the buttons to use the lightstick are in the back instead of the front, are easy to use and fans are able to swing it around with no worries they'll accidentally press the lightstick off.

this time, instead of a booklet manual, the fans received a simple QR code printed on the box, which, upon being scanned, would bring them to GLASSHOUSE's official website, where they'd be able to watch private video instructions of RAEVIL members showing how to turn it on and the modes it has. the idea of getting such an interesting manual received considerable attention, that it prompted someone to leak it on social media for people who don't have their lightstick or are not even their fans.

It's not only Yu Yu Hakusho that is celebrating its 30th anniversary, Togashi is also celebrating his 35th anniversary as a manga artist. For the written interview, here's my translation attempt. While there are some similar responses and themes across all 3 interviews I've translated, each also gives a slightly different insight and new tidbits of information that makes me fall in love with Keiko even more. <3

Interview - Kitagawa Keiko

— This is the final chapter of a new series that began in 2014. How did you feel when you received the offer?

I enjoyed Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon immensely as a child and was greatly influenced by it. Moreover, the fact I played Sailor Mars/Hino Rei in the 2003 TV live-action drama Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, the series holds a very special place in me. I still get together with the cast of the live-action drama several times a year, they are my irreplaceable friends. All in all, I feel as if I have been with the "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" series forever in my life.

When I first heard about this opportunity, I was so surprised that I was trembling. The overall series is at its 30th anniversary this year, and it is also the 20th anniversary of the TV live-action drama Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and of my own debut. On the one hand, I was very happy to receive an offer to play an important character in a work that I have such a strong emotional attachment to, but on the other hand, I also felt uneasy, wondering "Am I the right person for the role?" In [the live-action Senshi team's] minds, Sailor Moon = Sawai Miyuu-san. Considering the ultimate and future form of Sailor Moon, I kept wondering if it was okay for me to voice Sailor Cosmos. I was worried. But when I talked to everyone about it, they basically said, "We are so happy that one of us gets to be involved in the anime film like this. We definitely want you to do it. We'd also be happy if this becomes an opportunity to get people to know more about the TV live-action drama." and gave me the push I needed to do this. With that, I no longer needed to think about unnecessary things. I was able to participate in the experience with a positive mindset.

— What a beautiful relationship!

Not only were we like comrades-in-arms, fighting alongside each other during the filming process, but we were also like rivals in friendly competition motivating each other to work hard. Tokusatsu filming is often a tough job. They are my best friends that I overcame such hardships with together, rivals who continue to work hard together in the entertainment industry, and truly irreplaceable friends who are like family to me.

— With the push you received and continue to carry from your teammates, how did you feel when you read the script?

The story was so magnificent and epic, at first I was at a loss on how to grasp and portray the character of Sailor Cosmos. But as I continue to read, I fall back on realizing this was still the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon that I know and love. When Usagi-chan is in trouble, her friends reach out to her, and even when she seems to be on the verge of falling apart, in the end, she would find the strength inside to face herself and stands up for herself. Believing in yourself, and believing in your friends, pushing forward once again, these are exactly the things that everyone loves about Sailor Moon. Ahh. Realizing this is the culmination of all of this and the climax of the series, I got goosebumps thinking about it.

— In this story, Kitagawa-san's Sailor Cosmos is a very important character, isn't she? What was your impression of her? Also, was there anything you were conscious of when you portrayed her?

She is [the future ultimate form of Sailor Moon], and from her appearance, you get the feeling that she has a very divine and transcendent air about her. But in all the battles she has fought, she has had hard times, seen things she didn't want to see, lost things she didn't want to lose… I think she holds the duality of having the strength to overcome anything and the fragility of a human. That was what I wanted to express through my performance.

I don't have a lot of experience as a voice actress, so it was very difficult for me to express Sailor Cosmos's sense of transcendent depth that you see and feel from her images. Even though I don't have the skills of a voice actor, I tried to convey as much of my emotions and feelings into my performance.

I feel a little superior because I am the only one who gets to listen to this (laughs), but Mitsuishi Kotono-san did the guiding voice-over for the reference clip. The depth and persuasiveness that comes across from her voice were really wonderful. It was a voice that really grasped the essence of the role. Similar to what Mitsuishi-san made me feel, I prepared and approached my part by coming up with a voice that I hope would make people feel comforted and safe when they hear it.

Mitsuishi-san contacted me before the voice recording, "Just do what Keiko-chan thinks is best, just be [yourself]. Don't worry about it and just have fun!" she told me, and with a slightly lighter heart, I went into the voice recording session.

Mitsuishi-san is just like the Usagi-chan I admired, I am very happy that we were able to star in the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon production together. I would love to be able to tell my younger self that one day we will be in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon together.

— And I assume you have seen the finished work, what did you think?

Although it made me feel very nostalgic, the visual was very much levelled up with the current technology. It is truly the culmination of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon's history, a fusion of what I used to watch as a child and what I watch now! That's what I felt. It is a product of extravagance.

The answer that Usagi-chan came up with in the end, was very Usagi-chan-esque, and seeing that made me happy.

— Usagi-chan's answer still resonates with us even when we're adults, doesn't it? Kitagawa-san, are there any moments that you empathized with when you saw the film?

Usagi-chan isn't perfect, she cries at times, and she hesitates at times. But she'd pick herself back up in the end, finding the strength to face and confront her challenges again. It's the same with the other Senshi, that they'd fight as hard as they can, even if they don't know at the time if your actions are right or wrong, they forge forward with everything they have.

As we live, I think we all encounter moments where we wonder "Should I have done it or not?" "Was I right?" that kind of trouble thoughts. Whenever I feel like I'm about to lose my nerve, I may cry, or hesitate like Usagi-chan, but if I can accept and believe in myself that I had done my best in the end, and that I made the right decision, I think ultimately there is a wonderful future waiting for me.

It is truly a message of encouragement for people to embrace and live in the present. This is now Kitagawa-san's second time appearing in a production of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. What do you think of this series now?

In these past 20 years, I was able to do my best because I know my fellow Senshi whom I met through the live-action are also all giving their best in this industry, this series is inseparable from my life, as if it's my life itself. Being able to participate in the film version of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos has only added even more significance to me.

— Finally, please give a message to everyone who is looking forward to the film.

No matter if you are you are a fan, someone who's never been exposed to Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, or who doesn't usually read manga or watch anime, I hope everyone would still watch this film.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is not just a story about girls transforming into cute costumes and fighting, but it is also filled with messages about how to stand back up when you hit a wall, how to look up and move forward when you feel down, and offer comfort and encouragement to those who struggle with anxiety and unknown about their future path. I am sure that in our current time and societal climate, there are things that people will definitely resonate with if they watch this film. I hope this film will reach many people.
