The suffix -flower is woefully underused on warrior cats, honestly.
It also shouldn't even be associated with just female cats, when I see -flower my first thought is dandelions, something extremely hardy and enduring; a name about resilience. Not something fragile and gentle.

Not only do I not regret asking you to "RELEASE THE RAMBLES!", I'm sending you requests for more. Below is a list of questions that I asked @bihansthot , and enjoyed their answers, but because you are so thorough, and answer in such depth, I'm re-asking them to you.
Brace yourself, it's a list. I didnt have time to sort thru them, I just copied and pasted, so if any are questions you already answered before, please feel free to include the links.
"LET US BEGIN!"
---------------------------------------------
In the spirit of potential future writing,  I'm trying to find a building that  would make a good substitution for Lin Kuei temple.
I've tried looking up ancient Chinese military barracks/forts, and have found some stuff,  but is all exterior.  Anyone know of any locations (or several I can cobble together) that would make good inspiration fodder?
---------------------------------------------
So, uhm, religion? What's the Lin Kuei's take on that one? I know they are aware of Gods, they team up with/ encounter Raiden all the time,  and have literally worked for/against Shinook, so I know they recognize higher powers... but I  guess the question is,  do they care?
Do they have a religion,  or spiritual practice that resembles religion? Or do they have a more practical approach "gods exist,  but we just consider them very strong people"?
Which segues into... do they recognize and participate in holidays, or things like birthdays? Or are all their celebrations work related (I.E. successful missions or levels of combat mastery)?
---------------------------------------------
Food.  What foods do they normally eat? What foods do they like?  What foods don't they like? What foods do they absolutely love so much they'll stop what they're doing to get it?
---------------------------------------------
If you had to match the Lin Kuei with a dynasty,  what one would it be? (I know the 2021 movie has the opening in the Ming dynasty, so the Lin Kuei is at least that old,  but given that movie Bi Han hasn't aged in 400 years, and was taken is a child,  its probably much older) (and also know the game probably cherry picked random Chinese things it liked).
What do you think the Lin Kuei's view on artistic culture (probably not the right word) is? I know they are heavily militaristic,  but in the game,  Kuai Liang offers Hanzo tea and he properly prepares it the Japanese way, that says they have something of an education other than just related to fighting?
Lastly,  in the movie,  everything Bi Han does is "for the Lin Kuei", but the Lin Kuei is on Earth (assumedly),  and he is working for a guy who wants to enslave Earth, so what do you think the deal is?
---------------------------------------------
Question about the Cryomancers. I know the game lore says that they are supposed to be rare, but I also know that the Lin Kuei have had at least 5 (grandpa, papa, older, and younger Sub Zero,  and Frost). 4 of which are part of 3 generations that inherited it even with mixed blood (I'm assuming Mama Sub Zero wasn't Cryomancer since they left her alone).
That's a lot of generations in a row for a rare trait... So do you think the Cryomancers as a group have figured out they're being hunted and have chosen to live in hiding?
---------------------------------------------
Lin Kuei society question? I like writing so I also like world building and I think about these things.
Is Lin Kuei society ever covered? I know there is a Grandmaster, a handful master assassins (Sub Zero's, Sektor, Cyrax, etc) and the  movies always have a bunch canon fodder lesser assassins.
And they live in the very isolated Lin Kuei Palace/Temple in Arktika (or wherever it used to be)
But is Lin Kuei (we'll call it "village") ever covered?   Do they have willing servants, kidnapped slaves, or a mix of both? Are there women (non fighter women,  I know there's Frost) or do they employ strictly male help? If there are women, what's their role, and are there children born there? What about Elderly? What about resources,  is everything (from food, clothes, weapons, and the raw materials to create them) grown or manufactured on sight by skilled laborers or do they import/interact with the outside world? How vicious or civil is this society, could you be killed for looking at Sektor wrong or do they value your services to a degree? What's the degree? This is obviously a combat culture,  but is everyone expected to know martial arts of some variety, is it optional, or do they prohibit it among the servants/slaves? How strict are they on things like clothing, food, alcohol,  drugs, "luxuries", or pleasures? Money? If they interact with the world do they recognize and use $$ currency, commodity currency, or a mixture? Internally are the Lin Kuei payed or just provided for? What about illness or injury,  if you're not a master and it a serious injury/illness are you taken care of or do they just give you a quick death?
Etc. That's all the questions I can think of,  but please feel free to answer questions I didn't ask,  if you think of anything else.
Thank you for this wonderful list to talk about! I’m gonna split the answer into smaller parts, for better focusing on each aspect but also so I don’t feel bad for keeping you waiting for ages, lol. For now let’s focus on asks about the religion!
So good questions! I do think they have some spiritual practice(s) because in martial arts the state of a mind is as important as the physical body and religion is one of many ways to shape someone’s mindset from a young age. I do, however, think that Lin Kuei does not worship the gods. They are aware that the gods exist (with Raiden as the thorn in the side) and may even respect their supernatural powers and battle skills but it never has stopped Lin Kuei from desecrating holy places, murdering people and stealing stuff for the best price. So, it seems to me that whatever religion the members of the clan follow, by nature it is rooted in nontheism.
Of course, there is also a chance that Lin Kuei worships some forgotten deity or deities (as a remnant of their ancient connections with Outworld / realms conquered and destroyed by Shao Kahn?) or may even practice ancestor worship which seems like a good way to uphold a widely understood tradition that plays an important role in the discussed community.
The closest thing to religious practice was seen in Mortal Kombat X, when Sub-Zero and his warriors seemed to pray together before statue of god / deity / ancestor / legendary warrior / personalized thing they value the most (sadly, my knowledge about Asian religious practices or faiths is very limited so I don’t have idea if the statue is supposed to represent any real god/religious symbol).
Tumblr media
At the same time, it could be just a bluff since Grandmaster was aware of Cage’s team infiltrating the Lin Kuei territory and used this moment to lure them into a trap. Additionally, Mortal Kombat X comics presented once Kuai Liang sitting before the same statue albeit in a completely different (devoid of reverence?) position.
Tumblr media
Of course, if we take into account Mortal Kombat Armageddon, the game states that Lin Kuei Temple placed in Arctika was actually once the Temple of Delia (the great sorceress & wife of god Argus) that at some point get abandoned and re-used by Sub-Zero’s clan.
Tumblr media
(In the background, we can see a statue of Delia that Lin Kuei does not worship but did not remove for whatever reason. Mixing both old and new games, we can only wonder if MKX!statue is also the remnant of someone else's faith/religion?)
Beside that, Kuai Liang was pretty vocal about Lin Kuei not worshipping the Elder Gods, what was seen in MK11’s intro dialogue with Cetrion
Sub-Zero: The Lin Kuei do not worship the Elder Gods.
Cetrion: We seek gratitude, not worship.
Sub-Zero: I see no distinction.
and personally did not have any reason to pray to the goddess:
Sub-Zero: Why should I pray to you?
Cetrion: Why does a bird flap its wings?
Sub-Zero: I asked a simple question.
In all fairness, in MK11 Kuai Liang seems the most passive-aggressive toward the Elder God while Frost is focused on her ambitions and Noob!Bi-Han just wants to be left alone when bothered by Cetrion. Similar thing happens toward Raiden. Despite gratitude for saving him, Kuai Liang does not spare the god criticism (can’t serve both Elder Gods and Earthrealm, isn’t fit for his role of protector) and in MKX outright says he does not fear divine beings:
Raiden: Sub-Zero...
Sub-Zero: I fear no gods, Raiden.
Raiden': That's why you shall lose.
Surprisingly, Kuai Liang’s interaction with MK11!Fujin sounds less accusing than with Raiden and Cetrion and it is connected closely to their ties with Bi-Han. And maybe Kuai Liang did seek in the past Fujin and other elements to make a peace with them, like he planned to do so in Mortal Kombat 4 Limited comics?
Tumblr media
"I came here to make peace with the gods of the elements that you fought [...]"
Anyway, the accusingly behaviour toward Raiden and Cetrion could be just Kuai Liang’s personal dislike for gods and serious authority issues, which makes sense considering how much he suffered because of their meddling and conflicts.
But honestly?
The available examples of Lin Kuei attitude toward gods, demigods and supernatural beings suggest how little the warriors - especially cryomancers - care for them.
Like, we have Bi-Han in Mythologies, who asked Quan Chi about details of mission:
Sub-Zero: If it's so precious, why don't you get it yourself?
Quan Chi: I cannot enter the temple until the four elements within its walls have been defeated. And I am not on the best of terms with the gods of your realm... especially your god of thunder.
Sub-Zero: Tell me about these elements.
Quan Chi outright said he and earthrealm gods weren’t friends and Bi-Han, reading between the lines, could get the idea that he may end on bad terms with Thunder God. Yet he was interested only in elements (lesser gods than protector of realm?) guarding the temple.
Then Bi-Han beat down four demigods and met a displeased Raiden after Quan Chi got the Shinnok Amulet. His reaction? No fear, like meeting an angry god was a normal occurrence.
Rayden: Do you realize what you've done??
Sub-Zero: I was just earning my living.
Rayden: Your clan's ignorance and greed will cost this entire realm. You must now set things straight.
Sub-Zero: Quan Chi could simply be a lunatic sorcerer. I've never heard of an elder god named Shinnok or of a place called the Netherrealm.
Rayden: Well, you'd better start believing in both, because you're going to the Netherrealm and you're going to bring the amulet back. We must act quickly. I have no dominion in the Netherrealm... You are reality's only hope.
Sub-Zero: I'll do it, Thunder God... but only because I have no choice.
And once he came back from Netherrealm, where he was fixing what he messed up in the first place on Raiden’s order, his abrasive attitude did not change much:
Sub-Zero: Here... the amulet.
Rayden: Impressive, Sub-Zero. Perhaps you will reconcile your reckless past after all.
Sub-Zero: That's it? Not even a thank you?
Of course, to some degree Raiden’s words did have an impact on Bi-Han but even the god’s warning about his soul tainted with evil did not stop him from coming back to Lin Kuei. Bi-Han’s attitude and/or approach to gods seems to change somehow once he was reborn as Noob, but that is a different matter for different times.
Anyway, Mythologies!Bi-Han and MK11!Noob act less aggressive toward gods than Kuai Liang. But then we have Sub-Zero from from the MK novel by Jeff Rovin, who not only is not afraid of gods but outright insult them:
“Wait! Be warned, Shang Tsung. He is cursed!”
“Cursed? By whom?”
Ruthay wailed, “By the immortal Yu.”
Shang Tsung felt cold spiders crawl up his spine. “The demigod Yu?”
“Yes… he who is said to dwell in the underground caverns of Horse Ear Mountain… which is sacred to the goddess Kuan Lin. He who protects the canals… and the tunnels… and looks after all who use them, human and animal.”
“What did our brash friend do to Yu?”
“He… killed a man,” said Ruthay.
“What man?”
“A toll-taker… one who had given up a life of crime… one who had been a partner of the man… you… seek.”
“And how did that crime come to the attention of the spirit of Yu?” Shang Tsung asked.
“The man was killed… slowly disemboweled with a sword… while accomplices forced his wife and his son to look on! After his murder… the man’s remains… were dumped into a canal!”
Shang Tsung raised an eyebrow. “Is that all? I was expecting something truly terrible!”
“It was!” Ruthay shrieked. “When he disposed of the body… in that way … he profaned one of the sacred waterways… of Yu!”
Shang Tsung smiled now. “Then he is definitely the man I want,” he said. “Anyone who is impudent enough to insult a demigod won’t be afraid to attack a member of the White Lotus Society, or the gods who watch after them. I will send Hamachi, Ruthay. When he nears his goal, see through his eyes and guide him!”
Book!Sub-Zero was impudent enough to insult a demigod which is why he was one of Shang Tsung’s favorites. And to be clear - book!Sub-Zero did not regret insulting the demigod at all. Even more! He found humor in it!:
He dwelt in a cave two hundred feet up the face of a cliff by the sea. The mouth of his home was barely wide enough to accommodate a slender adult, and was accessible only by climbing the sheer wall of rock, a feat that was impossible for most adults and daunting even to the few arachnids and marsupials that tried it.
Maybe some of them were even sent by Yu, he thought with a smirk, little assassins who would chastise me for having spilled blood in his precious canal.
The less abrasive attitude toward gods was shown by Cyrax, who talked a bit with Raiden over Bi-Han’s remains. He wasn’t outright antagonistic but wasn’t overall respectful either. He talked with Thunder God like he would talk with any other human being that wasn’t actually Scorpion. Frankly, from the named Lin Kuei only MK9!Smoke actually addressed Raiden in respectful manner, with proper bow and the name of lord
Tumblr media
albeit did he do so because he respects the divine beings or just out of gratitude for saving him, hard to tell for sure.
So yeah, it seems like no matter what kind of timeline or age or medium of the story, Lin Kuei does not fear gods nor pray to them. And the clan has a long history of dealing with Raiden, so the Lin Kuei had first-hand experiences with supernatural beings. Somehow, cryomancers are the most impudent warriors when it comes to dealing with or criticizing the gods.
Interestingly, as much as Lin Kuei warriors don’t care for gods, most of the known to us named characters believe to have - and to care - for their own souls. Sektor and MK11!Frost embraced the Cyber Lin Kuei idea but Kuai Liang, Cyrax and Smoke were opposed to C.I. project out for concern for their souls among other things. Even Bi-Han, to some degree became concerned about his soul after trip to Netherrealm.
Believing in souls is usually a sign of belief in the afterlife, albeit after all of them went through (the change into cyborgs, death and change into Revenants) this is less a matter of faith (religion) and more first-hand experiences. And let's not forget that regularly dealing over the centuries with Shang Tsung who steals people's souls on a daily basis makes it really hard to not believe spirits are real.
Also, an interesting matter of Lin Kuei practices that could have a religious/spiritual ground and/or be an example of ancestor worship is the clan’s funeral rites. I don’t think we actually saw any Lin Kuei to bury their own (especially after warrior’s failure?) and for sure MK9!Cyrax and Sektor did not bother to take care of Bi-Han’s remains. However the sources provide examples of Lin Kuei keeping corpses, most likely of their own leaders or warriors.
And so, we could see human remains:
put in two coffins on each side of statue
Tumblr media
hidden / kept in a block of ice(?) in chamber of Fallen Lin Kuei in which Frost’s frozen body was also laid, but on the altar
Tumblr media
Cyrax’s cyber body was kept and guarded by Sub-Zero (and this is like the only thing that Kuai Liang and Cyber Sektor so far agreed on)
and even Cyber Sektor’s remains, even if just for pragmatic reasons, are kept in what seems to be respectful manner:
Tumblr media
It could be just Kuai Liang’s good nature to honor fallen of his clan (I’m still not sure if Lin Kuei Palace is the new place for Sub-Zero’s clan or the ancient hideout) but even in MK Conquest TV series, after Grandmaster was killed by then-currently-Sub-Zero, there was the farewell ceremony with clothes on display (cause there was not much left of body after freezing and shattering) while new leader gave the speech promising to punish the guilty.
Tumblr media
Which makes me think that Lin Kuei did honor their fallen warriors (especially those exceptional, deserving). Such custom and apparently common belief in soul could also support the ancestor worship - both as some ancient, mythical ancestor(s) connecting warriors into one clan (family) and tradition to follow in the footsteps of forefathers (Bi-Han taking place of his father [old timeline] or grandfather [current timeline] or Kuai Liang taking Bi-Han’s place as Sub-Zero).
My general conclusion about Lin Kuei is that its members believe in souls, have respect and use of spiritual matters (meditation?) and maybe ancestor worship. Whatever the religious / spiritual practices they have over the centuries, it is not something they will share, as the Lin Kuei by nature are secretive people who keep personal things mostly for themselves. The people that joined the clan (Cyrax and Smoke) maybe kept their old, eventual religious beliefs but overall, Lin Kuei warriors did not fear, care for nor pray to gods. They may respect god (Raiden, Fujin) as a person but not because of their divine nature. And even that would not stop them from criticizing said god. Which is pretty much how Kuai Liang and Raiden’s relationship looks like. Grandmaster is grateful to Thunder God for saving him but he won’t blindly follow his authority.
(Kuai Liang has serious authority issues, hasn't he?)
As for holidays, I can’t really see Lin Kuei to follow any specific religious (theistic) special day cause they don’t care much for gods in the first place. Unless they worked undercover and needed to act as normal human beings, religious holidays would mean nothing to them. The warriors may however celebrate their mission success, combat mastery or promotion between themselves or in secret, I think. Like, Lin Kuei did forbid friendship because it was considered warrior’s flaw yet we know some members either were blood-related (Kuai Liang, Bi-Han, previous Sub-Zero - father or grandfather, depending on which timeline is correct) or considered each other a family (Kuai Liang and Tomas Vrbada) and most named characters worked in duos so they have both opportunity and knowledge about each other to celebrate important matters. If they managed to remember anything from previous life, that is. Because from ancient to at least Great Kung Lao’s times most(?) adepts were kidnapped from biological families at a really young age (something around 6 years old). And Mythologies: Sub-Zero takes that even further:
Its warriors are chosen at birth to be raised apart from the workings of day to day civilization and are stripped of their former lives. Only the clan knows their existence. Each of them posses certain skills and abilities that set them apart from normal men. These abilities are passed on from generation to generation and honed throughout the experiences of life.
So, celebrating birthdays doesn’t sound like happening much, unless those with family around could allow themselves such luxury. The clan may however celebrate the day of becoming a fully trained and sworn warrior? Or the fallen warriors? Who knows.
Also, something worth thinking about: in Mortal Kombat Conquest TV series, when the Grandmaster presented newly appointed Sub-Zero to the rest of the clan, he “celebrated” the cryomancer's first official performance as the execution of two men who failed their mission. So, yeah, celebration of something special in (old) Lin Kuei does not necessarily mean anything nice.
(The next part of answer most likely will be focused either on food or architecture / origin of Lin Kuei. Let's hope I will get it written sooner than later)
<><> EDIT <><>
RELIGION <> ORIGINS / ARCHITECTURE <> FOOD <> FOR THE LIN KUEI <> ART <> CRYOMANCERS <> LIN KUEI SOCIETY <> MONEY & MATERIAL GOODS

Hi! I see that you have different lore and rules in your au, (ie. elders choosing names, seers changing clans which I think is SO interesting omg, clans not speaking the dead's name) would you ever go more in depth with those changes? I'd be very interested to see your take on the clans cultures!! Love this blog so much!! ♡
aww thanks for the curiosity!
wbcd is actually pretty tame in terms of worldbuilding stuff for me, because. bookkeeping. that's -- almost always the answer lmao. i'll do links first and then ramble broadly about clan culture below the cut.
my (warriors) main, @mallowstep, is where most of the relevant content is contained, although i'm ngl for the past few weeks we've just been Experiencing this web of riverclan aus so. this morning i debated the existence of the original sin in warriors. "debated" more like -- talked through? i don't know.
anyway.
i have two worldbuilding related series, the elders' den (folklore) and five clans alike in dignity (worldbuilding essays). it's been a while since i've added anything to either of them because "poetry. hymns. language." has been kicking my ass way more than i expected, but they are living series.
and if you want some proper seers switching clans (i.e., as a thing that's part of the culture, rather than something that happens in an emergency), saccharine tithes of love and glory is currently at 6/8 works and explores that idea starting with yellowstorm (yellowfang), and i just posted squirrelflight.
but for some broad notes:
riverclan
there's...a lot. riverclan is easily one of my most developed clans. i'm trying to keep this stuff to bullet points, because i will literally not stop talking if i don't (see: one of the first things i did this morning was read through the wikipedia page for the doctrine of original sin to talk about how that was compatible in riverclan's belief system.)
core belief: all riverclan cats carry the divine in them (literal descendants of the river)
core values: patience, pride, flexibility, creativity
unique practices: building shrines for the dead and having water burials; bone divination; weaving; raiding the twoleg place; keeping trinkets
main spiritual practices: holidays; veneration of the moon; looking for river spirits
social structure: fairly nuclear
meta-thoughts: they're a proud clan, but because of that, they're the most accepting. it's sort of, "you're one of us, so it doesn't matter -- you have value."
shadowclan
probably the least developed clan. i'm always trying.
core belief: heritage matters, birthright does not (i.e., a focus not on who your parents are, but a respect for the past)
core values: cunning, respect, loyalty, community
unique practices: a large and long list of prayers that seers need to memorize with very specific purposes; prefixes are associated with the last cat to hold them, something which then reflects on the next cat to get the prefix; deep mourning traditions
main spiritual practices: group prayer, led by the leader in the morning and the seer in the evening; serious holy days (vs. riverclan's holidays); limited belief in the ability of a "normal" cat t connect with starclan
social structure: large focus on extended kin
meta-thoughts: i'm always trying to add on to shadowclan, but i've yet to find a story to tell in shadowclan that makes me want to sink my teeth into their culture. there's also -- a problem with them being a diaspora culture, and i'm trying to describe an "ideal" form that hasn't existed since...cedarstar, probably
skyclan
my beloved. i'm not much interested in old skyclan, so:
core belief: loyalty to the clan (really, a focus on being a community, rebuilding, etc.)
core values: adaptability, cunning, loyalty, resilience
unique practices: asking kits if they want to be part of skyclan; having clan meetings on the new moon; naming cats after the very recently deceased
main spiritual practices: nothing has really set hold, yet, other than group prayer/gathering on the new moon
social structure: the whole clan is one family, although they lean towards nuclear
meta-thoughts: they're a new clan, and that's really what this is about. everything about them is about surviving, and so they're very pragmatic. results oriented. etc.
thunderclan
aka, i refuse to accept thunderclan is boring
core belief: a deep focus on commitment to the clan (very communalist)
core values: decisiveness, loyalty, respect, community
unique practices: telling stories with repeated lines; not speaking the name of the dead; deeply valuing skill in battle
main spiritual practices: a deep focus on individual prayer; belief in invoking the names of specific cats; believing the journey to starclan takes several moons; limited spiritual weight in the position of seer
social structure: focused around maara/denmates, often over maach/bloodkin
meta-thoughts: while i haven't done terribly much with thunderclan, it's because i think thunderclan as-presented is pretty good. it's not that they're the default, it's just you're mostly familiar with them. they have a really, really big cultural thing around stories though, more than any of the other clans. while all the clans use stories to explain things, thunderclan takes telling stories very seriously. they're learned nearly word for word.
windclan
aka someone decided windclan should have hymns and i think we all latched on to that
core belief: a focus on commitment through sacrifice
core values: patience; respect; flexibility; mediation
unique practices: calls for casting of stones fairly often (all clans have conflict resolution, windclan is just most likely to use them); requiring the seer to confirm the name of each kit as not being ill-omened; pack hunting which has three roles; a commitment to ecology; sentry duty
main spiritual practices: the hymn, which is split into main sections and sung through, in part or whole, about once a season; holy days (fasts and singing days) have no fixed occurrence but are announced by the seer as little as the morning of; leaving the dead on the open moor so they can run to starclan
social structure: broadly communal, a deep sense of ties between mentors and apprentices, an expectation that mates will be well-integrated with both families
meta-thoughts: much like thunderclan has a lot of sayings derived from stories, windclan has sayings derived from hymns. while i've removed tunnelling from windclan, i've replaced it with a new way to categorize warriors. the three running positions are flusher, chaser, and catcher, and while all cats can run all positions, flusher is the most highly specialized because they're responsible for land management.
alright! i always have more to say about this, but. that's a start.

So I Don’t Forget Again: A Breath of The Wild fanfiction
Entry 152: Zora’s Domain
It somehow felt natural waking up to his smile. It seems like he didn’t notice I woke up at first. He apologized, asking if stroking my hair work me up. He just meant to move some hair away from my face, but he accidentally just kept going. I honestly don’t know, but the was sun rising anyway so maybe the change of lighting was what did it. In the temples the lighting hardly changes, it just barely gets darker at night, I have to really look for it to tell.
Sidon apologized for falling asleep, he meant to keep me company though the night, though he was so glad to awaken with me asleep beside him. He hadn’t been awake for too much longer than me. A prince has many duties so he must rise with the sun he says.
Sidon was glad I finally let myself sleep a little. He asked me how I felt about it. If it was scary or not. It was somewhat, but I felt safe to try. Sidon was glad, though he did wish I would sleep where the doctors could monitor me.
I’m healed, though some infections are still inside me. The doctors thought that sleeping naturally healed me, but that can’t be. I know for a fact I have slept out under the stars when injured and I did not awaken healed. The new theory is that I heal when asleep only when in a bed, or I’m comfortable. I also told them about how the hot springs can heal me too. They’ve started discussing finding some Sheikah scientists and seeing if together they could figure out how my body works.
Purah said she was going to go to the Revitalizing Chamber to study it. I wonder if she’s still there.
The doctors kept me for a while, and my infections have actually spread. This was why they didn’t want me to fully heal just yet. Thankfully the damage was able to be fixed for my side before so it’s just in my arm again. They want me to stay a bit longer to adjust my medicine and make sure it has no adverse effects on me. They told me to not use my arm still, or if I must, be gentle with it, they don’t want it to possibly reach my bones or other organs. It’s eating away at me in a way, so if I’m not careful, I could tear something, and the infection gets inside and not stay outside and it will become much more difficult to manage.
Sidon had mixed feelings about this. At least I could finally take the splint off.
I never knew food could taste so good! After all the tests and pocking at my arm Sidon and I cooked again! I missed eating much more than I thought I ever could! We cooked so much, it was practically a feast and we fed the whole town. Even the King was impressed by my cooking and loved trying Gerudo cuisine! The feast lasted through the whole afternoon. Sidon and I only got to eat after everyone else was full and done, but I don’t mind. They popped into the kitchen once in a while to help or to just chat for a bit. It was nostalgic to make honeyed apples again. I should visit Kakariko Village soon. Any food that was left over I finished. I’d like to try combining different cuisine, I think some of the different pieces placed together would compliment each other well! Sidon was excited by the idea.
The kitchen can get really hot, so a nice cool bath was perfect after the meal.
Sidon filled the bath with bubbles again and massaged the goopy stuff in my hair and on my scalp again.
Taking baths just feels so great. Sidon agreed with me that renovating my house to add a bath was a nice idea. I think I’ll keep the bathing plants outside so they can keep growing even when I’m gone traveling. I’ll just pick what I want or need and leave them by the bath when I go in. Maybe I could keep a fire rod at the bottom to heat the water. And maybe I could get a waterbed as well. It would be nice to expand the house a little and add a bigger kitchen. I could also possibly work the land around my house for a while so I can just grow more rarer ingredients, though the plants from the desert might not be able to grow in dirt.
Sidon told me he loved hearing me speak like this.
Speaking of houses actually reminded him of something. After reading my memories a while back, Sidon wanted to help with the construction of Bolson’s town in Akkala and found a zora who’s name ending with son who was willing to go there and help. He had experienced much of life, being alive when the Calamity struck as a warrior. He just wants a peaceful life. His goal is actually to wed a couple, and surely people would want to get married in the new town. One of the Gerudo women who came traveling with Sidon, her name also ended in son so Sidon convinced her to go. So all that is left is to send a Rito their way.
I should go back and check up on the place some time soon. I’m going to Rito Village soon anyway so perhaps after I help them, though I will be going past the Akkala region on my way there so maybe I should pop by for a quick visit.
Sidon wondered if my healing only worked when I am comfy and happy. Perhaps though the water was not hot, if I were injured right then if I’d be healing. He noticed that I heal when I’m comfortable. I don’t heal when traveling because I’m likely on edge or only half asleep prepared for an attack. It would explain why baths, sleeping in a bed in a town, and eating could all heal me, because they all relax me and make me comfortable. I could see that, but then I wouldn’t have been injured so long here getting to be with him so much.
Sidon asked me if I ever get scars even though I heal. I’m not entirely sure. I know I had scars on my body when I woke up from my hundred-year sleep. I also try to eat as soon as I get hurt so they’re gone so quickly I never exactly get the chance to even remember where they were.
Sidon asked if he could have a closer look at my scars. He gently traced them, like when he was reading the engravings about Zora history. It was like he was trying to memorize them. He said it was almost surprising how such a little body could fit so many marks. Some of them are slightly discolored from the rest of my skin, some of them sink deeply into me. Sidon said he’d never seen scars so big.
Sidon let me trace his scars. He has one the left fin thing on his head. He got it from a great battle with a giant octorok that swallowed him whole.
He became oddly quiet though, then he asked me if he could ask something related to my darker thoughts. He asked if I ever wish I never woke up, that I was never placed in the revitalizing Chamber. I feel like I should have died with them, but do I want that as well.
I think if I truly grasped this situation I’m in sooner, then maybe yes. If I remembered my past when I woke up instead of not recalling a thing, I think I might have.
If I wasn’t alive there would be no one else to finish what we had started. We’d all be restless, and the others will keep being like that till I defeat the Calamity. My want to protect everybody, make sure they are happy is worth much more than eternal rest to me. If I stayed dead, then so many more people would have gotten hurt than even now with the Yiga clan chasing me. Besides, as much as I hurt, there is so much here that was not a hundred years ago. I never would have met Yunobo, or Riju or Kass a hundred years ago. And I never would have gotten to see how amazing Sidon would have become if I somehow continued to live on in that time. I have something that outweighs the pain, even if at times it is all consuming and I almost forget everyone, but that’s why I write here in the first place. I re-read this every night, so I don’t forget.
Sidon told me it truly is a miracle that we were able to meet now. He is so glad we were able to meet, but he was wondering if all the pain was too much. He doesn’t want to be blind to my feelings, he wants to understand me.
At times it feels like he knows me better than I do. I’m not sure how he could understand me better, but I’m glad he wants too. He told me that he’s glad I feel the same.
Sidon asked if I’d stay with him in his room tonight. He found himself unable to let me go yet. He wanted to stay by me longer. He told me it was selfish of him to want for all my time, but he couldn’t lie to himself, so he had to at least ask, however he made sure I didn’t feel pressured to go. He never wanted to force me into anything. He only wanted me to be with him if I wanted too, being with me would feel fake otherwise, and he wants to keep our bond genuine.
Sidon only travels sometimes since he’s busy taking care of his people. Still though, he dreams of traveling more, like when coming to save me, his logical reasoning being making closer ties between his people and others, but he also just wants to travel. He wants to see the towns, experience life in other places and experience their cultures. After Mipha’s passing he was somewhat ignored and coddled. For so long, even now everyone is focusing on Mipha and grieving her, it’s still a fresh wound for many of them. Because of that he was just kind of there, still cared for, but just there. Though as the last next of kin in the royal family he couldn’t leave the Domain too often for his safety with all the guardians around. He has been taught to fight but has only gotten to use those skills on occasion, that was known at least. Secretly he’d sneak off to fight monsters who came near the Domain or the water ways that branched throughout Hyrule. The only person who didn’t do this is his father, he grieved for his daughter but he didn’t compare her and Sidon, he made sure to love and praise Sidon for his accomplishments, he actually liked it when Sidon snuck out with me to find Me or when he came to rescue me recalling his own reckless adventures as a prince, but he’s the king, he has so much to do. Sidon loves his people, and they love him too, but at a distance, because he’s not Mipha. The younger generations are more inclined to see him though. It was not a bad childhood, but it was straining at times.
Sidon told me that he actually sent out some guards to go out to search for a Hylian warrior because he’s not allowed to go out farther than Inogo Bridge. He only left because Bossa Nova got swept away by the current and he just had to go save his friend. Bossa Nova was to be kept in town, but he wandered off as usual and someone spotted him fall in the ferocious river. If Sidon had not been told, he likely would have stayed by that bridge, he only would have left if the situation had become absolutely dire.
Sidon feels he could do more for his people if he were allowed more freedom, and they all expanded their horizons and looked at the world beyond their canyon and waters. Others always came to them, rarely the other way around.
In Sidon’s room are trinkets from other places. He excitedly told me stories about each of the items. About the rock a Goron had given him, saying it was their favorite and a little guy like Sidon needed to eat great food to grow up big and strong. Some golden jewelry the Gerudo women gave Sidon after returning here from saving me, loving how excited he was happily traveling with them, and as thanks for fighting so well with them. Some sheet music Kass no longer needed since he memorized the songs long ago, they were songs Sidon was especially fond of because Sidon met Kass when he was practicing those songs. A stone frog from Kakariko Village as thanks for helping them when the town began to get flooded for a time. I would write everything, but I only have so many pages.
Sidon’s room is large and has a balcony. He has a large desk for paperwork where many of his items are placed. There’s this large pool in the middle. Zoras don’t sleep in beds often, they usually sleep in the water or pools like this. Sidon had many pillows, carpets and blankets from Gerudo Town. Sidon set them beside the pool as makeshift cushions.
It’s so strange to see Sidon without his silver pieces and the blue sash. They just seemed like a part of him I suppose, I’ve never seen him without them before.
As he was placing away his pieces, Sidon tripped over Bossa Nova who had wandered in as Sidon was showing me his items I suppose. He’s so quiet it seems neither of us noticed him. In Sidon’s room is also a work bench for chiseling and working with crystal. In the commotion Sidon had bumped into it knocking the items off it and I had to catch them before they fell into the water. Sidon panicked, screamed as he ripped the items from my hands and checked them. He shakily sighed and held my hands closely, thankful I didn’t catch the dagger by the blade.
The blade is white and serrated while the hilt is crystal. Sidon reminded me of when I told him of my time with Calisa, and all she had taught me about travel and survival. I only have large weapons so many things are difficult to work with without smaller tools. Smaller tools would be extremely useful for making fires, digging, cutting down branches, collecting bark, and many other things. Sidon decided to make a dagger for me out of his teeth. Bone is extremely strong so is should not break easily. Not only would it make for a good tool, but a weapon as well. Sidon worries that there may come a day where I’m in danger and he is unable to get to me in time, so I could at least have this, a part of him with me. He told me his affections for me runs deeper than I may even be able to even fathom. His heart belongs to his people, but to me as well.
The other item is like his sliver pieces, but bigger and longer. Sidon was also making a piece to protect my arm. It had the Zora’s crest, the three crescent shapes, but in the crescent shapes are sapphires and in the space between where the crescents touch is one of Sidon’s scales. He showed me how the gems could be taken out and have other gems placed in. At the bazaar I had taught him about what I had learned about gems and the powers they have. Sidon wanted me to be able to utilize their powers. This way I could use multiple gems powers at once or have multiple of one so the power could stack up, and with rubies, hopefully keep me warm in the Hebra Mountains where the Rito Village is till I could get some warm clothing from there. Sidon wanted to make something to protect my arm, though he was a little nervous that I’d be more reckless with my arm because it was protected and not try to shield it more.
The scale placed in armor to protect someone; this is rather culturally significant. Sidon had told his father and Muzu what he had been making for me, he started this one when he returned after saving me.
I asked Sidon if he could out right, out loud, say it.
Sidon told me that like writing down things, saying things out loud makes them more real, and I had so much on my mind already, he was worried about adding something else, about if this could stress me. I told him I would be okay. I just want to indulge myself and hear him say it first. Directly, not roundabout like we have been this whole time.
Sidon thinks he’s in love me.
I think I’m in love with him too.
The King and Muzu had questioned Sidon, but he told them he didn’t care if I didn’t return his feelings, he wanted to protect me from anywhere like Mipha with her armor and trident, Sidon would always come to my rescue should I need it, but in case he couldn’t get to me in time he still wanted to help even if he isn’t physically there.
It fits perfectly, I asked Sidon when he took my measurements. He got sheepish, telling me he just tried remembering how it feels to hold my arm.
I’m trying to keep writing, but all these feelings keep welling up and I almost feel like crying? But it doesn’t hurt? Like my chest is trembling, and my throat is getting choked up? I’m only directly writing this now, so I guess it’s only settling in now how real this is? Nothing has changed. We both knew we liked each other for a while now, only thing that’s changed is directly saying it. And now I can feel my heart pounding. Am I panicking? Am I just excited? I don’t know!
Sidon asked me if he could court me. Sidon was getting a bit flustered now, and he tried explaining what me meant, but just kept tripping over his words. He leaned in before abruptly stopping. He asked if he could kiss me.
Sidon’s teeth are still very sharp. When he parted he realized he cut my lip on accident and started panicking. I had to keep reassuring I was okay and reminded him just eating or sleeping would fix it.
And my heart is racing like when he tells me I’m adorable. Why must Sidon do this to me.
It was so late, Sidon told me I could leave if I wanted. I asked him if that’s what he wanted. He wanted me to stay. I wanted to stay as well.
Sidon tried staying up again. He apologized when he couldn’t keep his eyes open. I promised him I’d go to sleep with him when I was done writing, and now I’ll do just that.

Humans are Space Orcs, “Honor.”
So translating my own language is a bitch. Yes I know I don’t have to do it, but also it is more fun that way. Although I added in translations for everyone accept on one or two parts on purpose. But you can still enjoy it, no need to worry. you don’t need to know the language to read this!
Also this is an action scene so it’s cool. Go on read it :)
You know that feeling where you studied for an exam and you thought that you knew the material, but then you get into the exam and it turns out you had no idea what you were doing?
Yeah, this is nothing like that.
Well, I mean it kind of is, but the result of screwing up is death and not a stern talking to from your parents about being more focused. Then again, perhaps I would get a stern talking to form Hijan.
When we crest over the hill --not gonna lie-- I feel like I’m going to shat myself. Granted loose bowels has never been a problem of mine, generally I have a pretty impressive butt clenching ability, you sort of have to as a fighter pilot, but this is a whole different level of terrifying.
It’s like one of those old movies where the hero is tied up by his hands hooked onto a rail line in a slaughterhouse and they are watching as the spinning blades slowly get closer and closer to their junk.
What I am saying is it’s like walking towards a meat grinder. The Drev are aggressive and violent spinning blades at each other, four arms flailing as they crash into teach other with the clattering of steel. Right in front of my eyes I watch as one of our clam members is violently speared through the throat after a minute slip up with his form work.
HE falls to the ground wide eyed and choking.
His opponent nods before continuing on his way.
Holy shit! Fuck!
Shit Shit shit!
“Nahasinsazh!”
Our group breaks into a slow job, and then into a full out sprint. I struggle to keep up, but surprisingly I manage to keep time. The Drev are bigger and stronger, but I'm smaller and more nimble, and I navigate the rocks faster. I make sure not to be at the front. I know that I won't be able to take that first hit.
The fighting line rises up in my vision.
And then the world erupts around me.
The first clash is so violent that I more than expectit to rent the earth and shake the very foundations to where I stand. A shape looms over me and I duck just in time for a spear to go cything past my head. My maneuver is followed by an absolute eruption of steel on steel. Hijan catches his spear on the shaft of her weapon and violently shoves him back. I see an opening to attack, but then that moment is gone.
I
I’m not sure If i can just kill someone like that.
“Tsata!  Laza  tach Zheengish!” Fight or yourclan
I’m still not sure about the clan, but…. I can do anything for Hijan.
My feet skidd over bare rock as a spear cuts towards my head. I dodge to the side again and Hijan takes the brunt of the force, but I use her distraction to rush inwards thrusting my spear point forward.
I feel it as it cuts through flesh, a jolting ripping sensation that vibrates up through the shaft of the spear and then into my hands.
The Drev warrior looks up at me with surprise on his face as I draw the spear from the wound and orange icor begins pouring down his front. Looking at his eyes, he doest sem scared, merely shocked. A shco which is replaced with…
Satisfaction
Peace
Hope?
I don’t know as I am drawn away from him a moment later and into the tide of the battle.
My feet pass over rough hewn stone as Hijan and I fight her acting as the muscle while I act as the spearhead.
Things are working out for the most part though my heart pounds in my ears making it difficult to hear anything but the pulsing of my own blood. HIjan turns to catch another spear with hers, and I turn to take the offensive when I hear a war cry from behind me. I turn eyes widening just in time as a spear point trusts towards my head. I throw myself to the side as the massive leaf blade bites into the ground where I just stood.
The hulking silver goliath stands over me his wide orange eyes filled with battle rage.
He swings his spear again, and the tip of the spear scythes past my stomach casting sparks as it goes.
I roll backwards landing on my back in the moss and rolling to the side only to gain my feet.
I look around for Hijan, but don’t Immediately see her.
The battle cry comes again, and I turn watching as another wild swing rockets towards my head.
He is using stone technique. It is slow and precise but when it hits it hits like a freight train. I raise my spear at the last moment, and when that downward momentum makes contact, I am plowed right into the dirt. The stele of my armor cracks against the stone and I can feel the ground give way under my shoulders and back. The power is incredible like getting hit by a speeding bullet train/
I have no idea how I manage to block it, and hold him off me.
His beak is just inches from my face, his wide orange eyes staring.
He presses downward with all his might, and I scream as I try to push him off me.
I watch him flinch as the power of my voice vibrates his ears.
Hmm, gonna have to remember that for later… if there is a later.
My arms tremble as I hold him away fro me. If he gets smart and stops pushing and just strikes I am done for.
I need a distraction.
Ah that’s a good idea.
I spit directly into his eye.
He was not expecting that one bit and reels back in shock.
I kick him square in the fork of the legs. I am not entirely sure if Drev have balls. I mean I heard their reproduction is similar to that of humans, so It can’t have been a nice feeling, and he doesn’t seem to like it leaping back onto his feet and staggering backwards. I come at him again, darting towards his side.
My hands are still throbbing from the last impact, my fingers are almost numb.
I catch him on the back of the knee and he roars in pain and panic crippling is far worse than death to a drev, however in his fear, I only make him more angry, he lunges for me, so fast and so wild that I barely have time to dodge out of the way.
I hit the ground again, spending way too much time here. The spar is thrust towards me. It cut s into the ground at my side. Near my shoulder
And between my knees as I scramble backwards.
I kick the shaft of the spear catching him off balance standing as…. A spear sprouts through the center of his chest. I can hear the horrible crunching noise the ripping of flesh as the spear is drawn back out, and he falls dead to the ground.
Hijan holds up her weapon covered in orange blood.
I am breathing hard.
She steps forward and I scramble up into  her shadow. We are back together again, and like before we are back as a unit, cutting through the whirling crowd with near impunity.
But I  can see that the battle isn’t going well, at least not for our side.
Hijan and I are now surrounded. Three of them and only two of us.
I didn’t actually believe I was going to die here.
But why hadn’t I thought that
It was a distinct possibility.
I realized at that moment that maybe I hadn’t had the respect for their culture that I should have. Did I think it was just some kind of fun game, go down for a little fun and then come hoe with some cool stories to tell. No, I was entering a warzone. I had made myself part of a clan and that meant that I had to either ride or die with it.
All around us comes the screaming of the dying and the moaning of the near dead. Bodies litter the ground, the air above us is filled with the little white moss spores kicked up like a cloud of dust.
Hijan and I retreated falling up against a short rock face. Pink moss climbs up it’s side.
Three attackers come in fast. I block one and she blocks the other, but the third spear catches her hard on one of her back armored plates.
My blood runs cold as I hear hijan scream in agony.
I spin on the spot kicking the third attacker away.
Hijan is on the ground, she isn’t bleeding but a spear is headed straight towards her chest.
I fully admit that I don’t feel adrenaline rushes easily.
I think it is a product of my flight training, but at that moment I don’t think. The world around me goes red my vision tightening to a single point blac around the edges.
My lips go light and it feels as if my entire body is held up by a thousand balloons or a gravity generator making me less than half my weight but twice as strong.
Before I know it I have leaped in font of the downward cut catching the blade on my spear. Metal rings, sparks fly.
Three more spears come in contact with the shaft of my weapon.
I see their eyes widen their bodies falter.
As one single human holds all three of them off. My vision darkens, goes even more read as I hear Hijan behind me. I  remember who I am protecting, and I scream. Power like nothing I had ever felt surges through my body. The kind of power that can rip your body in half if you're not careful enough.
And I throw them off me.
Three Drev weigh almost three hundred or more pounds each, and I throw them off me. Two of them stagger away and trip backwards, and one of them is lifted half a foot from the ground and thrown more than two feet backwards.
All the muscles in my body are on ire, my legs to my back to my shoulders and biceps.
Even the muscles in my chest and abs are screaming.
And then it hits.
I am going in for another attack when a second wave of our Drev come barreling through. They take over the field like a tidal wave absolutely demolishing any who stand in their way.
I am left standing in the moss breathing hard, gasping for air.
I look down at myself only now realizing that I am bleeding. I know the blood is mine because it’s red, though I don’t feel anything.
More shuffling on the rocks behind me, and I  turn.
“Hian!” I rush over kneeling next to her as she slowly sits up.
One of her hands is gently clutching the back plate which took the brunt of the impact.
I brush away her hands to look,, though I am not sure what I am looking for.
“Tsa Jirhash?” I prod at the injury
She winces but brushed me off
“Je je zhe ta’anini.”
I know she is going to live, but I worry she is going to be crippled. I know what that means.
She must see the fear in my eyes for she takes my hand and holds it between two of hers. Her eyes are wrinkled the way that Drev do when they smile.
“Tsa zheengish yahan. zhe leeni.” I feel my face flush just a bit. Her pride in me is…. Well it’s almost overwhelming. I realize now that the battle is over, the adrenaline starts to wear off and my hands begin to shake.
My legs are twitching so badly, that I have to take to my knees so I don’t fall over. My breathing comes in hard gasps.
Pain is returning to me, and I realize why I am bleeding.
There are cuts on my face and parts of my arms where the armor does not exist. The straps that hold on my armor leave deep bruises. My hands throb as do my bones/  Hijan pulls me a bit closer to her examining me herself as I kneel on the moss.
Looking for some cool air, I pull off my helmet letting a cool breeze blow over me.
My throat buns as I look towards the sky. The distant battle is beginning to fade.
As we kneel there on the moss, I turn to watch as our sentinel steps over broken bodies. He is painted in orange and his eyes are bright with the glee of a last battle.
“Lodnajasta.” The two of us bow our heads respectfully as he comes over
He looks down at me with surprise, “Tsa aninish. “ He seems almost impressed, and then he ruins it, “tsa dadarish yahanan huka zhe takasi tsa dee.” you did better than I thought you would.
Well thanks for that bro
I watch his expression fall a bit, and in surprise I turn to find Hijan glowering at him.
Raise an eyebrow incredulously as  I turn back to look at the sentinel.
He looks almost apologetic, “Tsa yaheen zhankeel datasajish.” you showed great honor.”
He turns and walks away, his back stiff.
I wait for him to leave before I begin to laugh incredulously and turn to look at my companion, “Hijan. Nin tsa darish.” What did you do!
She looks almost sheepish.”nee nehzhankeelan datadich.” He was being dishonorable
She had to be insane.
She reminded me way too much of my mother in that moment. My mom would call out the president if he disrespected one of her children, and apparently so too would Hijan
I take her hand and smile, “zhe tatazi zhe tsa rekazi.”
Her eyes wrinkle again and she takes my hand.
Hijan was one of the best people/drev I had ever known.
If anything happened to her I would probably go on a homicidal rampage John Wick style.
But barring that, I was getting some great ideas.
Sunny needed to meet hijan like yesterday

Stormlight Archive Epigraphs (5) - Listener Songs
I loved these epigraphs on my first read of Words of Radiance - they’re such a wonderful way of providing insight into another Rosharan species and culture.  These are from Words of Radiance Part 2.
I’ve tried to classify the forms - and other information - according to how the Listeners regard them.
Safe Forms
1) Warform is worn for battle and reign,
Claimed by the gods, given to kill.
Unknown, unseen, but vital to gain.
It comes to those with the will.
- From the Listener Song of Listing, 15th stanza
2) Mateform meek, for love to share,
Given to life, it brings us joy.
To find this form, one must care.
True empathy one must employ.
- From the Listener Song of Listing, 5th stanza
3) Workform worn for strength and care.
Whispering spren breathe at your ear.
Seek first this form, its mysteries to bear.
Found here is freedom from fear.
- From the Listener Song of Listing, 19th stanza
4) Dullform dread, with the mind most lost.
The lowest, and one not bright.
To find this form, one need banish the cost.
It finds you and brings you to blight.
From the Listener Song of Listing, final stanza
Questionable Forms
These forms were considered by the Listeners to be more advanced, but less safe. None of them except Nimbleform had been rediscovered before the timeof the Everstorm.
5) Nimbleform has a delicate touch.
Gave the gods this form to many,
Tho’ once defied, by the gods they were crushed.
This form craves precision and plenty.
- From the Listener Song of Listing, 27th stanza
6) Scholarform shown for patience and thought.
Beware its ambition innate.
Though study and diligence bring the reward,
Loss of innocence may be one’s fate.
- From the Listener Song of Listing, 69th stanza
7) Artform applied for beauty and hue.
One yearns for the songs it creates.
Most misunderstood by the artist it’s true,
Come the spren to foundation’s fates.
- From the Listener Song of Listing, 90th stanza.
8) Artform for colours beyond our ken;
For its grand songs we yearn.
We must attract creationspren;
These songs suffice ‘til we learn.
- From the Listener Song of Revision, 279th stanza
Artform is one of the few forms that gets two different epigraphs.  I can’t make head or tails out the last two lines of Epigraph 7.
9) Meditationform made for peace, it’s said.
Form of teaching and consolation.
When used by the gods, it became instead
Form of lies and desolation.
- From the Listener Song of Listing, 33rd stanza
This one interests me because I’ve wondered if Venli’s Envoyform is the adaptation of meditationform used by the Singer ‘gods’ - it’s a Voidform (form of power) focused on communication and propaganda.
 Dangerous Forms
These ones, I think, would all be Voidforms / forms of power.
10) Stormform is said to cause
A tempest of wind and showers,
Beware its powers, beware its powers.
Though its coming brings the gods their night,
It obliges a bloodred spren.
Beware its end, beware its end.
- From the Listener Song of Winds, 4th stanza
11) Decayform destroys the souls of dreams.
A form of gods to avoid, it seems.
Seek not its touch, nor beckon its screams, deny it.
Watch where you walk, your toes to tread,
O’er hill and rocky riverbed
Hold dear the fears that fill your head, defy it.
- From the Listener Song of Secrets, 27th stanza
12) Smokeform for hiding and slipping between men,
A form of power, like human Surges.
Bring it ‘round again.
Though crafted of gods,
It was by Unmade hand.
Leaves its force to be but one of foe or friend.
- From the Listener Song of Histories, 127th stanza
13) Smokeform for hiding and slipping ‘tween men.
A form of power - like Surges of spren.
Do we dare to wear this form again? It spies.
Crafted of gods, this form we fear.
By Unmade touch its curse to bear,
Formed from shadow - and death is near. It lies.
- From the Listener Song of Secrets, 51st stanza.
Smokeform is another form that gets two different epigraphs, though both of them are saying similar things.  I don’t think we’ve seen this one in the first three books. Venli’s first chapter in ROW mentions something called secretspren, and a type of Fused that can shapeshift; I wonder if they’re related?
Relationship with Humans and with Spren
14) They blame our people
For the loss of that land.
The city that once covered it
Did range the eastern strand.
The power made known in the tomes of our clan
Our gods were not who shattered these plains.
- From the Listener Song of Wars, 55th stanza
Do we know what caused the Shattered Plains?
15) ‘Tis said it was warm in the land far away
When Voidbringers entered our songs.
We brought them home to stay
And then those homes became their own,
It happened gradually.
And years ahead ‘twil still be said ‘tis how it had to be.
- From the Listener Song of Histories, 12th stanza
Human takeover of Roshar as described in the Eila Stele.
16) The betrayal of spren has brought us here.
They gave their Surges to human heirs,
But not to those who know them most dear, before us.
‘Tis no surprise we turned away
Unto the gods we spent our days
And to become their molding clay, they changed us.
- From the Listener Song of Secrets, 40th stanza
This one is describing both the Spren bonding with Radiants rather than with Singers, and the Singers turning to Odium, taking on forms of power, and being taken over by the Fused.
17) The spren betrayed us, it’s often felt.
Our minds are too close to their realm
That gives us our forms, but more is then
Demanded by the smartest spren.
We can’t provide what the humans lend,
Though broth are we, their meat is men.
- From the Listener Song of Spren, 9th stanza.
18) But it is not impossible to blend
Their Surges to ours in the end.
It has been promised and it can come.
Or do we understand the sum?
We question not if they can have us then,
But if we dare to have them again.
- From the Listener Song of Spren, 10th stanza
This is a different idea than in epigraphs 16 and 17, suggesting that the Listeners were awre of the possibility of forming Nahel bonds (as Venli has done), but were concerned about the consequences. And the use of again is very interesting - does that hint that there were Singer radiants in the past? Spren-human relations is going to a big part of ROW; perhaps spren-Singer relations will be as well.
Nightform and Prophecy
19) Nightform predicting what will be,
The form of shadows, mind to foresee.
As the gods did leave, the nightform whispered.
A new storm will come, someday to break.
A new storm a new world to make.
A new storm a new path to take, the nightform listens.
- From the Listener Song of Secrets, 17th stanza
Our gods were born splinters of a soul,
Of one who seeks to take control,
Destroys all lands that he beholds, with spite.
They are his spren, his gift, his price.
But the nightforms speak of future life,
A challenged champion. A strife even he must requite.
- From the Listener Song of Secrets, final stanza
The last line seems to refer to events at the end of Oathbringer, so these prophecies could be relevant to what see from the Singers in ROW.

Prompt #4
Arranged marriage anyone? For this setting, I'm thinking of a magic intensive celtic-esc society. My character has the whole part wolf thing going on, and I'm hoping for your character to maybe also have more animalistic features? But I would also accept shit like elves and teiflings in a heart beat. (Ya girl is SUCH a slut for them elves and teiflings my dude you have no idea) Retcon: Got Lots of elves. Still might take one, but am looking for different species overall now.
Tbh? He's giving you character the out, but I'd like to focus on not only character exploration but.. oh, you know. Let them fuck, it's their wedding night. 18+ tho for that reason.
If you want to just reply on connect, that's fine. If you want to ask more about the world building, or offer some of your own.. I don't have much to give ATM but I'm good at creating things on the quick and breezy. Any gender accepted, smth smth don't need no fantasy homophobia in my roleplay.
Anyway my characters name is Oke, he's about 5'11, with distinct wolf features like ears and a tail, and the teeth. Other things that are described in comic. Darker skin, with a bit of scarring, but a warm face and friendly smile. Hoping for this to eventually go into the whole "fish out of water exploring each other's cultures" shit but you know Slams foot on table // hit me with whatever
UPDATE Sat down and wrote out the world building just ask for it YEET
He'd had a partner, once.
He was a beautiful man. A warrior, one that held his head high and smiled wide enough that he saw stars in his teeth. His hair was red enough that he swore he was running his hands through a sea of fire and sunlight, and his touch warm enough to He'd never been much the warrior type, himself. He'd found solace in craft and studies, and he couldn't help but feel his mother held relief in that fact. But he would still sit and carefully paint his lovers body with symbols of protection and power before every battle he'd wander into, reassured by his gentle smiles and soft touches that- yes, of course he'd return.
It'd been a lie, of course. He'd died pridefully in battle, and his mother had told him for that they should celebrate. He hears the way her tone falters, how close she is to tears. She'd loved him like one of her own, and they'd both been so, so young then. He places a smile on his face and raises a glass high, and fondly remembers his lover for what he was. A powerful warrior, amazing personality.
Still, when night hits and he's alone, he can't help but cry at the fate his God's have handed him. How selfish is that?
~~
He'd been considering traveling, when his mother tells him-
"The clan we've been at odds with is willing to make a deal," She tells him, and her tone is stiff, "We've both lost warriors, good people to this fighting. And their former leader died. "Don't feel pressured to do anything, but they want you to marry them," it made sense. Many of his kin in the village and pack showed their blood. Large teeth on a chiseled face, sharp claws on stiff fingers. The men and woman of his pack were terrifying, and it was a carefully crafted image that had taken generations to make.
They would eat this person alive. He at least looked like he wouldn't. Sounded like he wouldn't, if they gave him a rundown on what he did. Son of their leader, sure. But he'd never once touched a battlefield in his life. A battle-axe felt foreign on his hands, blood tasted like metal on his tongue. He was sure that he was the least intimidating option they had.
"What do you know about the person they're sending us?" He asks, not... outright saying no, at least.
"Not much," She admits, smile on her face falling somewhat, "We told them we'd take anyone- be it male or female. I wouldn't force you to wed with anyone too.. old, but other then that we really don't know too much about them." "Of course, If you're not comfortable with it..." She trails off, as though considering it, "We could ask Myr-"
"Let me think about it," He cuts her off before she gets too far. He's sure it would make more sense to wed them to their strongest warrior. But she was a bit.. brutal sometimes, and already had someone she'd wanted to wed. He was sure she would have accepted the offer- Most would without hesitation if it meant stalling their bloodbath. But he needed time to get over the aching in his heart.
~~
He marries them.
~~
"You're sure you want to do this?"
He's not. But he's not going to let that show to his mother, who despite her nerves, looks so proud of him as she paints up his arm. He'd worn most of these symbols only once before, and seeing them on his skin again felt like a distant and uncertain memory. But they were symbols of love, and he knew they should fill him with pride as well.
"It wasn't like I was going to go out of my way to find another partner on my own," He admits to her, as he reaches up to mess with the jewelry in his hair with his free arm.
Her look of pride melts to one of heart ache, and lingers long enough that he's sure she knows that. But nothing more is said, and they spend the rest of the evening in a steady, understanding silence.

The elixir was easy to make, but disgusting to drink. Like sludge down the back of his throat. They've added what they can to make the transition easier, but it's not the taste that gets to him. It's the texture, something their both made to drink from in careful sips. Their hands are tied together, and as he'd looked at them he'd felt something of an ounce of regret. Would they have wed, if he hadn't accepted their offer?
But the night grew thick, and a storm came in. A blessing from the gods, his mother had said. Rains brought new life, and the thunder rolled with approval of their wed. He's not sure if he entirely buys it, but even he admits that something in the air feels.. right, if not foreign to him.
But as the festivities worn down.. And really, of all the things they knew how to do, throw a party was certainly one of them. The sound of drums still rang in his ear, and his feet were numb from the length he'd been standing on them- They were brought back to a private tent. Eventually, they'd either move to their lands, or into his families home. Well. Mothers home, he supposed. Her partner had long since past, parents withering away with time. It was something he worried about. What would she do if he left her?? He was sure she could find someone else to live with, especially as they entered a supposed time of peace. However..
He supposed that wasn't something to worry about for now. For now, the tent they're given is practically a home in itself. Somewhere private, somewhere the two of them could live for the next thirty days. It's just within reach of their people where, if something were to happen, they could easily find help. Close enough to be gifted food, and wares from their ceremony. But far enough out that it feels like just the two of them. A decent twenty minute walk in the right direction and they'd be back to either of their people. Theres no one else in sight, no other tents around. And they're left by themselves, in a small tent near a large lake. He can hear the sound of water crashing onto itself in the distance, but only if he focuses and lets his ears twitch. And he's-
Ignoring the moment, he supposes.
He sits back on the blankets, a mixture of elegant fawn and rabbit furs that have been carefully sewn together. They'd never been known to waste any bit of their hunt. The furs became clothing and blankets, material for leather and scrap. The bones were ground to power, for a base on their paints. The meat was cooked and saved, and scraps they couldn't use given to the wolves around them as feed. Their proudest hunt had been taking down a bear, a beautiful pelt his former lover had brought back hung from their chair for the longest time. Even now, it was used as a blanket, though carefully stolen from the chair to his room so he could wrap himself up in its warmth.
But, for something meant to be temporary, the bed is still soft. He finds himself wanting to fall into it and forget himself.
The tent is warm. He imagines they'd lit the fire twards the beginning of the day, because the chill of the night and rain doesn't make it past the entranceway of their tent.
He blinks at them. They'd been avoiding each-other most of the night. The celebration had been loud, and noisy, and he'd been more focused on celebrating the lack of battle in their upcoming days then he was their own union. He'd indulged in more food and brewery then he'd like to admit, and stuck to the people he knew best.
But now he's sat here with them, a little drunk and really rather exhausted.
"I don't want to scare you," Is the first thing that comes out of his mouth, past the heated and drunken haze. He thinks that might be easy to do. While he's not entirely tall, standing only around 5'll, he's still covered head to toe in his ceremonial markings. He has the eyes of his kind, deep brown and filling his eyes, his teeth are pointed and nails (while carefully painted a shade of yellow) Sharp. Though, he knows he has a gentle smile, and when his ear flicks back again to try not to focus on the sound of water, he lets a nervous one cross his face.
"We- Don't have to do anything tonight, if you don't want to," Is the first words he finds himself saying to them. His mother would probably be appalled by them. He loved her, but she was spiritual at heart, and he knew his pack wanted him to be united with them as soon as possible. But he feels the dizziness that comes from the beginning signs of a hangover, while still somehow feeling the heat of whatever drug they'd taken that night. "If you'd like for me to go to my mothers tent, I'd be willing to give you the night to yourself," It would mean walking through the rain, he supposed. But he was willing to give them that, willing to give them some time to themselves if it meant letting them relax. He doesn't recognize the feeling of anxiety running through his fingers, as well.
