I’ve heard it said that Stede and Izzy represent the two sides of Edward (“Ed” and “Blackbeard,” respectively), but I’d like to frame that dichotomy a little differently. The way I see it, Stede, as a character, represents the emotional while Izzy represents the practical.
Stede is immediately attuned to Ed’s emotional needs and thinks outside the box in ways that Ed finds enthralling. However, his privileged background means that he’s ignorant to many of the harder realities of piracy (Ed may love the marmalade he keeps stocked but he had to get rid of the gunpowder to fit it) and he also tends to make big decisions, as Mary put it, “on a whim.”
Izzy, meanwhile, is always focused on practical things. In ep 4, he’s distressed that Ed won’t tell him the plan (and doesn’t seem to have one), because he knows that, if they don’t do something, they’ll all die, and, throughout eps 4-6, he’s frustrated by the Revenge crew’s aversion to doing necessary work around the ship. He’s completely inflexible but, in that, is reliable and a constant.
A good example of Stede and Izzy’s opposing, yet complementary roles exists in ep 4. Ed comes up with a brilliant plan to save them from the Spanish but chooses to wait till the last second to reveal it to show off to the Revenge crew, and to Stede and Izzy specifically, which leads to two problems: 1) Ed has the date wrong, and 2) he’s not in a good state of mind, so he would rather just give up than try to come up with an alternative. But Izzy had the correct date all along and it’s the emotional conversation Stede has with Ed that gives them the idea that saves them, so imagine how much less chaotic that situation could have been if the three of them had been working together on a solution from the start!
But all three of them get in each other’s way. Izzy doesn’t see the value in Stede’s outside-the-box thinking, because it’s the total opposite of everything he knows from experience about how one survives as a pirate and Stede doesn’t see the value in Izzy’s practicality, dismissing him as “a complete asshole” for asking reasonable, basic questions Stede should have known the answers to because Stede’s privilege means he’s not used to having to answer to the world’s harsh realities. And Ed, meanwhile, tends to presume that he has everything figured out and often overlooks both emotional needs AND practical realities. In ep 9, Ed completely misses all of the clear emotional signals Stede was giving that he wasn’t nearly so keen on the “row a dinghy to China” plan as Ed was. And then, in ep 10, Ed gets it in his head that he and the Revenge crew can just stop being pirates on a whim if they want to, despite the fact that this is completely impractical when they’re no longer being funded out of the vast fortune of Wealthy Landowner Stede Bonnet. Ed is wrong in both of these cases.
But Stede and Izzy are also wrong. Whatever Stede thinks he’s going to do rowing out to sea with only the shirt on his back and (officially and permanently now) not a cent to his name, it’s extremely romantic but there’s not an ounce of practicality to it. Meanwhile, Izzy encouraging Ed to recommit to the role of Blackbeard might suit the practical reality that They Are Pirates and don’t really have any other choice but to keep doing that until they die, but it’s completely out of touch with what Ed truly wants for himself emotionally.
Stede and Izzy’s limited and opposite perceptions of Ed parallel their limited and opposite worldviews. But, for that very reason, there’s an extremely productive middle ground to be found if they were all willing to look for it. If Stede and Izzy were able to see the value in each others’ way of thinking—Stede by adapting to the practical realities of the Real World (which he’ll have to do one way or another now that he’s cut off from his money) and Izzy by learning to become more flexible about what is and isn’t Actually Necessary and maybe even exploring his own emotions in a healthy and meaningful way—they could really learn a lot from each other and grow as people in the process. And Ed could begin to appreciate a balance between the emotional and practical. That discovering what you want and trying to find a way to see it through is good, but you can’t always act on your first whim and practicality doesn’t have to equal misery.
To sum up, I’ll be honest with you: this is Stede/Ed/Izzy propaganda disguised as a meta post. I truly think that the only way these severely emotionally damaged old men are going to get their shit together is as a unit and, not despite their differences but because of them, I believe in them wholeheartedly.

We need your Pierrexpert analysis what things do you have to say
Sorry for being unhinged under the cut. This is a product of my neighbour listening to positive affirmation mantra music at 3am and also the Waitress Soundtrack
I think there's a misconception with Pierre within the idea that he holds a lot of anger and resentment. I think that much is true for sure, but because of it he gets characterized as hardened because of it when deep down that's not the case!
In his career Pierre has never been afforded the same grace or the same kindness as many of his peers have been. Which is not to say that that kindness towards others was not earned, but it's different.
Pierre has been in survival mode for years. years. What you see is not a hardness, or a selfishness, it’s self preservation. And I don't think he truly wears it in this independent way that it's often characterized. I don’t think Pierre is looking particularly to be independent. I think he is trying to be self sufficient because he cant trust anyone not to leave him in that. There’s a difference there that drives some fundamental wants/needs that get missed sometimes. Pierre isn't HE’S NOT AFFORDED THE SAME SOFTNESS as the others. HE LONGS FOR IT JUST THE SAME.
I think about the video from last season when he does the Piñata video, and he says to the presenter about the candy "we should bring this for Checo's kids to have". And then the story from the other day about him bringing that girl with him to testing. He is thoughtful and kind and generous with himself in a way that gets missed.
He will flay himself open the pavement and says: this is Pierre. This is who I am and this is how I feel and I can't change that. I won't change that. I want to believe that is enough.
He feels so much and he doesn't have anywhere to put it!!! He has been made to feel that to cry... to feel is SHAMEFUL. To feel as if you have been stripped of your voice and your humanity enough that you have to write your own article... Where else can that go when you aren't afforded a place to feel? A dream is a soft place to land.

I'll never be over the raw emotions depicted by Yoongi in his verse in Spring Day and then in Dear My Friend about the very same person, the very same old friend, about that broken "yes I loved you but now we don't even know each other but I still remember the times we had together" friendship.

I was chilling on a livestream where someone was making a bingo card for the scarlet and violet trailer and someone was constantly talking about how submas should be in gen 9 cause it would be sad and how Emmet should be the leader of the villain organization for the "sad motive" and I just left
Throughout the whole trailer I was just dreading any possible reference to submas and how the tag would mutate into something worse somehow.
On a lighter note Scarlet and Violet look interesting
So that's where that came from. That is not a very good take at all, and it doesn't make sense with the theme of the games. Pokemon also doesn't really do characters or organizations spanning across multiple Gens. Team Rocket is an exception and so is Looker, and there might be more that I'm forgetting. Mostly what we get are cameos in optional areas, or else they don't affect the plot much. Ingo's an odd case of being more than a cameo, and he seems like he would have a subplot about remembering and returning home but so far he doesn't. But we've never seen something like a character from one game turn up several Gens later as a villain, and something like that, or making games sadder is not the kind of stories the series likes to tell.
I can't even go into the tags anymore, and when I do, so much comes up as being blocked due to my filters. I'm tired of the angst and sadness and the demand for it. (And it seems like the ableism is becoming more of a problem? I'm seeing more people addressing it).
I feel like the Submas tags on here are in their own bubble, if that makes sense. I suspect the average Pokemon fan is not expecting or demanding a Submas appearance in Scarlet and Violet. I know people in the tags are jumping on the whole "past and future themes" but we don't know much about that right now at all, save for the box Legendaries seem to be themed towards that as well as the Professors' names and clothing. At times it feels like people forget that Submas wasn't essential to the plot of Gen 5, and PLA is not a Submas-centric game. Scarlet and Violet are new games, focusing on a new region with its own stories and characters. The story was likely done before PLA released. Putting Submas in can, and given the fans and fandom, would take the attention from everything else. If anything, the game devs may have learned from PLA that putting in Ingo and/or Emmet overshadows the other characters and main plot. Even people who didn’t know or like Submas before and didn’t jump on the fandom train are wondering how and why Ingo got to Hisui and why there’s been no closure for him.
There's also a very good chance that Ingo will turn up when they revisit 5th Gen with barely any or no references to PLA, like it never happened, and/or we'll find out later PLA takes place in its own universe, or something like the variants are canon but the story wasn't. Pokemon might not be into angst, grimdark, overall sad stories, etc, but it DOES work with different dimensions and alternate universes. The most reference to them I expect to see would be something like an ad for the Battle Subway or reference like the kids talking about it in Hulbury's train station in SwSh. It would be a nice thing to let us know he's OK, but any reference is more likely just to let us know we can expect to revisit Unova next.
I like the new Pokemon we’ve seen so far. I also find it interesting that the new rival looks a bit older than the player character. I’m not so keen on the box Legendaries yet, but I’m excited to see a true open world, explore at whatever pace I want, and I’m wondering if they’ll have Gyms, how that will factor into the open world, or if they’ll do something else.
(Sorry for the long reply!)

PROTECT MIKE WHEELER! ✊✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
so true my dude. Hope he shows up in season 4 at some point cos he hasn't been here yet. There's a dude who looks like him but he doesn't have any of his like, personality or characteristics or energy or like any of the previously established character development associated with Mike, so like if Michael Wheeler could show up at some point that'd be swell.
