Had this thought in a series of tweets, but I figure I’d share here, too.

I may have only watched it fully once, but thinking about it, Tokyo Ghoul √A wasn't really that bad of a season.  The way I see it, √A (Root A) could also be a play on “route A” in which ‘route’ is pronounced “root” and the ‘A’ would stand for “alternative”.  Hence, “alternative route”.

I'm also entertaining the idea that the last scenes in √A were quite HideKane-ish and quite romantic.  

I recall reading that Ishida was working with the animation studio throughout √A, and I figure that since he was the one who came up with this storyline, he probably wanted Hide and Kaneki to be a thing--even if it was tragic.  I also remember it being mentioned that he even came up with an alternative ending for that scene in Anteiku (with Hide and Kaneki reciting the childhood play they did?)

In any case, it really felt like Kaneki thought there was nothing left to live for after losing Hide--his last connection to humanity, the last person he wanted to see hurt (and dare I say his most precious person).  And that began his long walk to the CCG soldiers.

Once he placed Hide down and went to face Arima, the screen went black and the sound of a suitcase unlatching could be heard.  Whether he lived or not was left up to the imagination, but I think he was ready to die so he could "go home" with Hide.  Quite romantic if you ask me.

I want to say that if :re didn't exist at all, Tokyo Ghoul would've ended with Kaneki dying (coincidentally right after Hide), and nothing really getting solved; thus, truly making Kaneki's life a tragedy. 

 But all this is just me thinking out loud.  ╮(︶▽︶)╭

Deku and Todoroki really love celebrating Halloween. Thus far, having watched four episodes of MHA Season 6, I'm at a point where things look to be taking a turn for the worse for our heroes. Even so, as a guy who has watched some dark anime such as Tokyo Ghoul and Attack On Titan, I'm still gonna go along for the ride, because no matter how bad things get, I'm still thoroughly convinced that Deku is gonna be all right in the end and become the world's greatest hero once the series is over. I mean, I've never read the manga, but whatever. Besides, I can always write more lighthearted MHA fics to comfort myself.
