new year, new simbs. ✌
emery | jada
vivian | lesley
nixon | amani
tony | eleanor
(warning: tons of 4am thoughts and bad grammar below sorry sdklfs i love my lil pixel babies)
[emery quintero] is the typical shy nerd, he has a hard time making friends bc of his social anxiety/awkwardness. you’ll usually find him in a library studying and sipping on a mocha frappe
[jada cooper] LOVES fitness/sports and was actually the first girl on her school’s football team!! she’s plans on pursuing a career in physical therapy after college and finding the woman of her dreams~~~
[vivian bond] had a pretty difficult childhood which unfortunately resulted in severe trust issues. she constantly felt out of place and alienated bc she was so “different” from the other girls. she now uses her social media to share her story/experiences and has gained massive internet popularity for simply being herself!! (she also posts alt girl lookbooks and is an activist for women’s rights)
[lesley shelley] is honestly such a sweetheart! at times he can be a little TOO open and vulnerable which sometimes leads him to getting hurt. :( he lives with his new bff amani (in san myshuno) and recently opened an onlyfans account to help pay off his student loans lol
[nixon adams] is a goofy boy with two left feet (super clumsy). he’s sustained just about every minor injury you can imagine. a few years ago he was involved in a rock climbing accident in which he lost an eye and a few teeth. :((( he still continues to keep up his positive, fun loving attitude and hopes his future gf will embrace his many scars, bumps and bruises ;-;
[amani kessler] comes from a very tight knit family, (her mom is a school teacher, her dad is a detective, she has a younger sister and two fur babies). having been sheltered her entire life, she craves adventure and exploration -- take that however you want sdkljfsd
[tony b] (born charles anthony ballard) hides his past as much as he possibly can. almost no one knows he comes a from a wealthy and quite powerful family and he plans on keeping it that way. after a huge disagreement with his dad, he “legally” acquired his trust fund money and moved to san myshuno where he can safely and openly be who he wants to be!! him and his close friend, nixon work at a local tattoo/piercing shop together
[eleanor brock] was always teased for being the tall girl. little did she know, everything she had hated about herself would one day bring her great success. she’s a model/rising star in del sol valley and frequently makes appearances in reputable fashion magazines!! she hopes to walk the runway in her own designs in the future~

La La Land (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
The movie musical La La Land is set in the modern day, but with the aesthetics of the 1950s. The PattyCake guys decided to lean even further into the trappings of Hollywood's golden age to evoke the stars of the early 20th century in their most iconic roles, as well as the many folks behind the scenes who help make the magic happen. They didn't quite have a cast of thousands, as was often boasted by the epic films of the era, but they did gather quite the crowd of performers, mostly from among their circle of theme park friends.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — La La Land (Classic Edition)
performers: Olivia Adkins (Marilyn Monroe); Rachel Copeland-Evans (Judy Garland); Monica Carlile Edwards (Audrey Hepburn); Felix Deneau (Humphrey Bogart); Erin Cline (Bette Davis); Derek Ostrem (James Dean); Colleen Ella Defeo (Gloria Swanson / Elsa Lanchester); Bebe Caliberr Mercy (Elizabeth Taylor); Elijah Babel (Charlie Chaplin); Jack Defeo (Boris Karloff); T. Robert Pigott, David Kotary, & Jacob McAlister (directors); Amy Garton (wardrobe); Hannah Laird (script supervisor); Jaimz Dillman (reporter); Greg Hernandez (lighting grip); Melanie Simpson (ingenue); Jim Harrison (camera loader); E. Michael Evans (leading man); Jonathan Shane Ferrell (makeup artist); Laura Mansoori & Alex Colvin (showgirls); Deanna Quintero (hairdresser); Brayshawna Bates (flapper starlet)
original songs / performers: "Another Day of Sun", "Someone in the Crowd", and "City of Stars" by the cast of La La Land (2016)
written by: all songs by Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek, & Justin Paul
arranged by: Paul Vesco, Layne Stein, & Tony Wakim
release date: 22 July 2017
My favorite bits:
that brief Flectcher cameo 🐶
Olivia's perfectly breathy Marilyn voice
the contrast of having "Another Day of Sun" mostly led by the stars while "Someone In the Crowd" is mostly the crew
the instrumentation adding more jaunty piano to accompany Chaplin's dancing
the film clip interlude that includes "Will.of.Oz" footage, then turns back into live performance
gradually building rhythmic and harmonic complexity until they reach the final unison line
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
Rachel had first worn the blue gingham dress as Dorothy Gale in PattyCake's "Will.of.Oz" music video, which was released the previous December.
Olivia was already well versed in Marilyn Monroe's mannerisms, since she is a character she'd been playing for several years at Universal Studios Orlando (and has continued playing since).
Felix often works as a Dean Martin impersonator, but stepping into Bogey's trenchcoat and fedora for the day suited him, too.
Derek is one of Tony's fellow "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni, having played both Wolfman and Dracula for the last decade of the show's run. (He's also married to Stephanie Trilli, who has played Sarah Sanderson in PattyCake's "Hocus Pocus" pieces.)
Robby was also one of the many Draculas in the "Beetlejuice Revue", and he's been playing Marlin in the Disney World "Nemo" live show for over a decade. (Among many, many theme park and theater roles.)
Makeup artist Jonathan Shane Ferrell of Makeup & Creative Arts was actually applying the Frankenstein makeup to Jack Defeo's face while also playing legendary makeup artist Jack Pierce, who worked with Karloff on the 1931 film. Jonathan had been a makeup artist for the "Beetlejuice Revue" at the end of its run.
Jack and Colleen were also already comfortable in the monster makeup, as they are yet more "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni, having played Frankenstein and the Bride in the 90s and early 2000s.
The PattyCake guys created a bit of anticipation with a social media countdown.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were very specific about recreating several famous celebrity photos and iconic movie moments. They highlighted some of them in a series of social media posts they called "Double Takes".

If Primarchs Had Spotify: Lion 'El Jonson Edition
Music that The Lion would do paperwork to, read or perhaps even dissociate to. He definitely took these from shows and movies he has seen due his brothers giving him exposure (he has definitely been influenced). He gives a 'pick and choose' vibe.

The Grande Mermaid (Unexpected Musicals) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
Although the pun of trading "little" for "grande" was too good to pass up, the PattyCake guys also did a great job of weaving together Ariana's lyrics to create a fresh take on the classic fairy tale. Not even a natural disaster could stop this project from being completed.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — The Grande Mermaid
performers: Emma Dahlin (Ariel / additional vocals); Jean Paul Acocella (Eric); Emoni Wilkins (Ursula / additional vocals); Rachel Copeland-Evans (Vanessa); Brayshawna Bates, Anna Ricks, Alex Mansoori, Lee Markham, Cristina Hernandez, Damon Keith, Deanna Quintero, Nina Neubauer, & Matthew Manchigiah (wedding guests); Ryan Simpson, Tony Wakim, & Gina Varchetto (additional vocals)
original songs / performers: all songs by Ariana Grande – "Into You"; [1:25] "One Last Time"; [2:05] "Problem", feat. Iggy Azalea; [2:26] "Greedy"; [3:20] "Moonlight"; [4:05] "Dangerous Woman"; [4:50] "Break Free", feat. Zedd
written by: "Into You" by Ariana Grande, Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Alexander Kronlund, & Ilya Salmanzadeh; "One Last Time" by David Guetta, Savan Kotecha, Giorgio Tuinfort, Rami Yacoub, & Carl Falk; "Problem" by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Ilya Salmanzadeh, Amethyst "Iggy Azalea" Kelly, & Ariana Grande; "Greedy" by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Alexander Kronlund, & Ilya Salmanzadeh; "Moonlight" by Ariana Grande, Victoria McCants, Tommy Brown, & Peter Lee Johnson; "Dangerous Woman" by Johan Carlsson, Max Martin, & Ross Golan; "Break Free" by Anton "Zedd" Zaslavski, Max Martin, & Savan Kotecha
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 26 January 2018
My favorite bits:
reframing "Into You" to be about the whole human world rather than a specific person
the dramatic rescue sequence
Ursula's feigned sympathy, followed by the fantastic riffs and belts as she casts her spell
the ambient ♫ "sha-la-la" ♫ backing vocals from "Kiss the Girl" under "Moonlight"
seamlessly passing the lead on "Dangerous Woman" from Ursula to Vanessa, but with Ariel's voice emanating from the pendant
using "Break Free" as the music for disolving both of Ursula's spells, returning Ariel's voice and Eric's autonomy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
Filming for a large portion of this video was delayed due to Hurricane Irma, which severely damaged their beach location and made it inaccessible for several months.
Ariel's tail and top were created by MerNation, Inc.
Urusla's costume was created by Jonathan Shane Ferrell from Makeup and Creative Arts, who they'd worked with on several previous projects.
Emma has reprised her role in the Princess Academy series, as well as for PattyCake's original song "Fish Out of Water" and a cover of "Part of Your World" that they released to coincide with the live-action Little Mermaid movie.
Both Emoni and Rachel have reprised their respective roles in PattyCake's Villains Lair series.
The guys had met Emoni when she was a member of Ten, who competed against VoicePlay on the fourth season of The Sing-Off. She subsequently joined the boys for the 2014 Sing-Off tour.
Layne and Tony had previously recorded an excerpt of "Problem" as part of VoicePlay's "Aca Top 10 – Summer Hits 2014" countdown.

Unfortunately, so many books are in the crosshairs of the censors—around 850 on one list in Texas alone—that we can’t talk about all of them. But here are some of the books that haven’t made individual headlines when they were banned.
The books below don’t just appear on Texas state Rep. Matt Krause’s 16-page list of books to investigate—a list that was more than 60% LGBTQ-themed books, according to one analysis. They might also be books pulled from the shelves in Granbury Independent School District, in Texas; or Polk County, Florida; or targeted by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Those books are also heavily LGBTQ. Interestingly, the American Library Association's top 10 most-challenged books of 2020 list is less LGBTQ—though the top book on it, by Alex Gino, was George, since retitled Melissa. The books below are in no particular order. All Boys Aren't Blue, an essay collection by journalist and LGBTQIA activist George Johnson that was included on best books of 2020 lists from Kirkus Reviews, the New York Public Library, and others. Echo Brown’s Black Girl Unlimited, described as “just brilliant” by Kirkus. Susan Campbell Bertoletti’s They Called Themselves the K.K.K.: The Birth of An American Terrorist Group, which won the American Library Association’s 2011 award for excellence in nonfiction for young adults. Adam Rapp’s 33 Snowfish, one of the Young Adult Library Services Association's top 10 books for young adults in 2004. Carmen Maria Machado’s In the Dream House is an award-winning memoir about an abusive lesbian relationship. Separate is Never Equal: Sylvia Mendez and Her Family’s Fight for Desegregation, by Duncan Tonatiuh. Ordinary Hazards, by Nikki Grimes, is a memoir that got starred reviews in six major trade journals, among other honors. Maia Kobabe’s Gender Queer is a memoir in graphic novel form. It was an ALA Alex Award winner that got a starred review from the School Library Journal. Drama, by Raina Telgemeier, is an LGBTQ-themed graphic novel that won multiple awards and made multiple year’s best lists, but was also the seventh-most-banned book between 2010 and 2019, according to the American Library Association. Gabi, a Girl in Pieces, by Isabel Quintero, made the best books lists at both Kirkus and the School Library Journal in 2014. Ash, by Malinda Lo, was on the Kirkus best young adult books list in 2009. More Happy Than Not, by Adam Silvera, got starred reviews at Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus, School Library Journal, and Booklist, as well as making many best-of lists in 2015 and thereafter. Two Boys Kissing, by David Levithan, has made repeated appearances on the ALA's most banned books list. It was also on the National Book Awards longlist for young people’s literature. The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas, was a well-reviewed, massive young adult bestseller, with Kirkus Reviews calling it “necessary” and “important” in a starred review. The School Library Journal also gave it a starred review. It was a Coretta Scott King Honor book. The list goes on. And on and on and on. We could have a whole section on winners of the Pulitzer Prize or National Book Award that some school boards just aren’t sure belong in schools. It’s not just Maus. Fences, by August Wilson. Beloved, by Toni Morrison. Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates. The Confessions of Nat Turner, by William Styron. Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which won the 2007 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature. Or books by authors who’ve won those awards for their other work, like Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, which the College Board actually uses as an example for AP exam preparation. Or Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste.
