BLACK PYRAMID Release First Single from Astounding Comeback Album

~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~

One of the albums doom metal fans can legit look forward to in coming months is the return effort from Massachusetts legends BLACK PYRAMID, one of the most visionary, commanding, and influential bands of the first two decades of the 21st century.

That may sound like some heavy lauding, and it is, but the band continues to live up to their reputation in their first new album since 2013's Adversarial.

Today, Doomed & Stoned brings you the world premiere of the first single "Bile, Blame, and Blasphemy" from the upcoming saga, 'The Paths of Time Are Vast' (2024).

The song begins with gentle electrified picking of a motif that's immediately accessible, met by warm bass tones and tapping cymbals. After introducing us to the main theme, it's developed with the full power of the band -- complete with swaying, downtuned riffs, Sabbathian trills, an unrelenting rhythm section, and the heroic vocal attack of Andy Beresky.

The chorus brings me back to the doom classic "Mirror Messiah" from the band's first album, 'Black Pyramid' (2009), which was (and continues to be) a hallmark of the genre. I love the sound of rolling chords during the breakdown and the solo is replete with depth and emotion. There are long stretches of instrumental work that simply buoy the imagination.

"Bile, Blame, and Blasphemy" introduces us to a narrative that runs throughout these 8 tracks, giving us lyrical clues as the record progresses. It is indeed "an epic tale of loss and redemption, death and rebirth, fire and frost."

Black Pyramid's The Paths of Time Are Vast is nothing short of sheer conviction from the band, giving the evolving medium of metal a much needed shot in the arm as the year progresses. It digs deep into the craw and you may find yourself thinking about it even when it's not rumbling the stereo speakers. Album of the Year contender for damned sure.

Look for Totem Cat Records to release Black Pyramid's fourth full-length on May 3rd in vinyl, CD, and digital formats, with pre-orders beginning soon. Stick it on a playlist with High on Fire, Elder, Stoned Jesus, and Aleph Null.

Evoking the molten, sludgy tones and the immersive atmosphere of their self-titled debut album, Black Pyramid greatly expands upon what worked wonders in the past, then seeks the transcendent path, pushing each element of their alchemistic sound to its unparalleled cosmic conclusion.

Slated for a May 3rd release, “The Paths of Time Are Vast” features Andy Beresky on guitar and vocals, Eric Beaudry on bass, and Andy Kivela on drums. This lineup of the band is now the longest running incarnation, actively gigging and touring since 2018, all the while honing their collective songcraft and solidifying their onstage chemistry. Working with Justin Pizzoferratu (Dinosaur Jr, Witch, Elder) at Sonelab, the band sought to capture the same visceral magic and sonic wizardry of their live performances onto tape, and then embellish in the psychedelic decadence of studio experimentation.

The resulting production is equally immense and ethereal, massive and otherworldly, elemental and insubstantial, as much an earthquake as an astral projection. Each song embodies the power trio’s raw energy, atavistic power and impassioned performances, juxtaposing elaborate arrangements with fiery free form improvisation.

Although past Black Pyramid albums were conceived as collections of stories told through individual songs, this marks the first time that the band has composed an album which tells a single solitary story. Utilizing both musical themes and lyrical imagery, “The Paths of Time Are Vast” relates an epic tale of loss and redemption, death and rebirth, fire and frost. This album is your golden ticket to voyage beyond the realms of birth and death, to take the journey through the many doors of radiant reality and dark dimension, to tread the celestial pathways carved in the carcasses of the stars, and to finally taste the vastness of time and space.

Jungle Fury Random Headcanons and Ideas

@skyland2703 @augment-techs @mo-ok @junglefurytrash went a bit crazy with this one

-Casey is the youngest of five siblings, and is the only boy in the family. He knows how to do makeup and hair.

-Due to his upbringing everyone in the house expected him to be gay, he was kind of dreading having to tell his mother and sisters but they were pretty chill about it.

-His sisters are either quintuplets or triplets and two adopted sisters depending on what you want to go with.

-Despite being the blue ranger Theo didn't develop his animal spirit until after Luen gained his. His parents seem to expect more from him as they were students in a sub school associated with the Pai Zhua.

-Theo's won a Guinness World Record award for karaoke, he claims it's in his blood to be amazing at it.

-Lily grew up within a small apartment in the city, she enjoys all the different foods that a place has to offer. Anything that's new and changing, reminds her of home.

-There's a chance that she trained with Zack and had him as a partner as she did mentioned how she used to do competitive dance competitions.

-RJ's mother passed away when he was young and he kind of blames himself for it. Despite trying to make their relationship better Finn may have blamed him all those years ago for Mrs. James's passing, just a constant reminder of her not being here.

-RJ is amongst one of the only individuals(Like Antonio) to discover the Morphin Grid on his own and is the reason the Pai Zhua has it as access.

-Sometimes just to spite Finn RJ catches fish and attaches them around the shark master's house. That way his air conditioning can smell terrible.

-Dominic flunked out of college, he was studying to become a teacher in geography.

-Casey seems more ticked off with Dominic because of the idea that he might try to go for Jarrod or RJ.

-Jarrod enjoys being around animals as his parents weren’t really around, his mother didn’t really enjoy the prospect of having a boy and his dad would either yell all the time or get pissed off about farm work not doing well so Jarrod cuddling up with a fluffy sheep or even summoning his black lion spirit to sleep next to it’s mane would soothe him.

-Despite all the troubles within the school Master Mao kinda sees Jarrod as his own son(Any of you kingdom hearts fans, cough cough Eraqus and Terra).

-Camille’s hatred of snakes was due to her mother being killed by Naja 10,000 years ago, she’s unaware of this fact but disposing of the snake rinshi felt right when it happened in the show.

-Her eyeshadow is actually a trait of her animal spirits. Animal spirits have way more depth to them as they are the shadow of one’s self, in some cases specific traits about said spirit leak into the person like physical to mental details (example: Camille’s eyeshadow, RJ’s ferocity from his wolf spirit.)

-megazords formed by animal spirits were based on specific influences centuries ago, from totems, giant sculptures like sphinx and even Animus. Some can claim that the guardians of the Pai Zhua were the first people to create earthly megazords within human history.

-mystical beasts or fictional animal like creatures such as the phoenix, azure dragon etc are somewhat rare due to a very small percent of people born with one or those entities giving access to said person. Such as the Phantom Beasts who are based on specific creatures. If Nick or Chip were to come to Pai Zhua and develop a phoenix and Garuda spirit then they’d be a powerful force.

-rinzen and zocalo energy isn’t inherently bad energy but the power is mainly associated with rinshi, the rangers have the potential to access it and even gain phantom beast modes similar to Jarrod and Camille.

-Fran’s animal spirit can range either from a black cat, owl or monkey and gives her abilities based on inner luck or focus making her quite powerful.

-Lily basically adopted Casey as her own little brother.

-Secretly Jarrod wants to pursue cooking or something based in creativity. He didn't touch a kitchen utensil for weeks after seeing kitchen nightmares and it took RJ having to throw the tapes out to get him back into cooking.

-Master Swoop can actually split himself into bat's and has the little shadows spying around the world for any threats. Its kind of creepy but very effective as he can easily have the bat's acting as kamikaze strikers to defeat monsters. Rangers on other teams don't know how threats get taken down but they don't mind, less work load.

-the Pai Zhua has more schools within the world that differentiate in some fighting styles and such. Some schools like the ninja academies try to pick up on their skills but a few of the campuses keep secret.

-Zordon tried to learn about the teachings thousands of years ago as their abilities mixing with the grid gave way for a spike in power with combat but they shunned the wizard away cause of being weary about his motives. Ninjor was welcomed in open arms via the power coins he had. This also explains why Jungle Fury was so scarce with the other teams up until megaforce.

-despite everything the Pai Zhua is nowhere near as moral as they tried to portray themsleves as. Some people can be very toxic in a few areas, Dai Shi had possessed people in the past and with each attempt they tried to have the individuals go mad and die from the experience as a way to rid themselves of the dragon. Casey and the rangers dismantled this ideology after killing the Dai Shi.

-because of her potential the academy sent scouts to try and push Fran to join the academy but RJ quickly shut that down and actually threatened a few of the higher officials because of this.

-Animal spirits talk amongst themselves when the team isn't around. Some play poker when everyone's asleep.

-because of being spirit and mythical based the JF team can handle most of the recurring threats of Zedd and Rita. Plus with their megazords not being mechanical they aren't easily disposed of.

-RJ secretly made JKP into a megazord incase there's an emergency, he met Antonio and added a shitload of symbol power and animal spirit energy to make it a powerful force.

-Lily loves a lot of 80s-90s music and loves to dress in a semi style of Y2K.

-Having no knowledge of Pokemon, Camille and Casey were sat down by Theo and Fran until they were introduced to Gen 4. Camille hacked her Platinum cartridge to get all the mythical and legendary mon events.

-RJ smokes blunts mainly to calm himself, it started as a way to escape the thought of his mother being goin and his father's disapproval.

-Tommy and Jason aren't allowed in Ocean Bluff when it comes to ranger activity because RJ's access to the grid could be useful but he likes to gatekeep and personally team wise if anything happens both him and the group wouldn't enjoy veteran rangers from the first modern team(unless it's billy) coming in and taking over operations.

-Camile and Jarrod jump monsters whenever a mission happens, forget talking, get the job done when needed.

-Casey was fired from the zoo for sleeping in the tiger cage and released all the animals into nice reservations after he was let go.

-Lily was made team leader as Casey doesn't feel too well with getting the role just for being a red ranger.

-Theo is a master at coming up with combo attacks and megazord concepts to the point that rangers like Chip and Max come to him for guidance. He's got quite the reputation in the ranger community for his witty ideas.

-Casey is on a red ranger watch list due to his sword skills, despite keeping their word Jason may have came to the city to demand some aid with their grid research and the two got into a brawl with Casey winning. Him, Jayden and Lauren are all at the top five of said list.

-RJ has dated lots of people but it usually never ends on a perfect note as they were usually relationships with people who took emotional advantage over him. Though he's in a better place within his life to try again with Casey or anyone who actually values him.

-Jarrod listens to a lot of punk music and back at the school Mao got complaints about speakers Blaring music at two in the morning.

-Cam hangs with RJ and shares ideas but he isn't allowed to tell Tommy about any of their conversations. The two may have had a thing in the past.

-Wolf rangers tend to have a powerful aura and they each meet together to talk about business, RJ has a bone themed secret landline he uses to contact them.( @sentinelofstories wolf war 👀😭)

-Due to Dai Shi the JF teams has a disdain for dragons, Serpentera count your days if you ever come back.

-Camille's rinshi form is just armor but was never accepted fully as a rinshi, she only became one to seem worthy in Dai Shi's eyes. The phantom beast hated her for many things and this was one of the reasons, thousands of years ago she murdered three previous members for nearly trying to assassinate her.

-Princess Shayla and the Wild Force rangers are on good terms with the JF team. Merrick follows RJ around like a lost puppy, Taylor spites Theo for being short, Lily tried to get Danny out of his shell. Max tries to explain modern day concepts to Camille, Alyssa and Dominic do small talk and Cole is given death glares from RJ or Jarrod because Casey has caught eyes for him.

-Casey is Gay, Lily is Bi, Theo is a straight ally, Camille and Jarrod are angry bisexuals, RJ is pan, Fran and Dom are unsure of what they are.

-It is unknown if dinosaurs can become animal spirits but Eric actively seeks out Casey to test this theory.

-Casey's favorite red ranger is TJ.

-The team watches movies each Thursday, Everyone except Lily can't handle watching Final Destination.

-it took some time but Jungle Fury had their crossover with RPM and its safe to say things were chaotic. Dillon and Jarrod pretty much had a staring contest with each other, RJ and Flynn got high for the most part, Scott kept crying tears of joy when Casey took him to see their world since it isn't destroyed, Theo wanted to throw himself out the window from hanging with Ziggy, Summer took Lily shopping and Camille was this close to murdering the twins but actually found herself warming up to them, she even went on a date with Gemma.

-Billy is on thin ice for trying to bring Zordon back and while RJ likes the dude he'd prefer that the giant head wouldn’t butt in on all of their affairs.

Have some old Werewolf: the Apocalypse lore

Before recorded history, there were shamanistic/pagan tribes of miracle workers that would bond and pact with the spirits of the wild, and sometimes those spirits would even choose certain humans to bond with and create hereditary lines of supernaturally touched people, too.

Were-things were these cultures adopted by spirits, and descendents of the humans that embraced them right back. Becoming their own sub-cultures within human society, but usually on the fringes, given they were more feral and of the world than they were human anymore.

A purpose was also had by these relationships that fostered different changing-breed cultures in humanity. They were a casting system for the different tribes, each with a totem animal. The wolves happened to be the warriors.

The cats were the patient scouts and hunter-killers, whom could be considered like special forces, saboteurs and spies. The ravens were couriers, messengers, sentries and eyes in the sky. The coyotes were subverters and highly mobile saboteurs, navigators, pathfinders and discord sowers, bar none. The bears; medics. Yeah, I know.

Well. In the before-time, there were great spirits roaming the earth that even the tribes like the Garou couldn't destroy or disperse. So what they did was they beat them into submission and magically chained them to the land itself, burying them and containing them. Where they were supposed to remain.

This is an element of narrative that persists in World of Darkness, whether your gameline is Vampire, Werewolf or Demon: the Fallen.

In Vampire: the Masquerade, Kupala is said to be one of these 'great spirits' that 'the lupines' chained beneath the earth, binding them to the very mountains and hills of Eastern Europe themselves and becoming synonymous as land features. There were many more.

Also in W:tA, when the changing breeds moved into North America, roughly 300,000 to 50,000 years ago, they could not do much about the great spirits that were giants roaming the continent here. They were much too great to destroy, so they similarly could only beat them after great sacrifice and chain them into the very landscape itself, where it was hoped isolation and assimilation would have them rejoin creation and operate as normal.

So there was less corruption in North America on a spiritual level, but it had higher concentrations and was more volatile, and more dangerous to let out.

This got really bad as history progressed and technology allowed more humans to venture to North America, where the violence and hatred and expansionism and suffering from plagues started empowering and waking up the evil spirits locked in the continent's environment.

So. Whether your flavor is Vampire, Werewolf, or Demon, just remember that despite being different gamelines that effectively occur in the same general universe but separated by meta, some story beats carry over in their own way.

Or did, until Werewolf V5 (known as W5) decided to see no point in any of the old lore.

Scene: Echoing through the lower strata of civilization, the influence of the guardsmen reverberates through every soul, carving them as totems to their effigies. Their manner too, flows in accordance with the influence from above, so that by the legion, men behave in miniature as those whom they have seen and taken in command. In caves, cafes, forums, symposia, automats, laundromats and psychomats, the seven who are one spiral out in uniform, manifold in overlapping constellations, the same handful of voices drowning out all in white noise.

-- their banter strikes me as eerily familiar, psychorrhax.

-- a cat and a mirror i said i'd pay, now i have, to see it all painted black.

you had only wanted to slip away. there was no need for a procession.

-- y'know, mates. it don't strike me as peculiar at all, y'know, ya got like -- me on the big antennie erryday always flappin my gummies and spreadin pollin like butterfly wings, makes perfect sense it's allergy season every month and no one can see or breathe with eyes all watery and nostrils all shut and it's loike -- why'd they even want to anyway, when they open em up and all they see's joey and the big man blowin smoke up each other's asses or in our faces, just like dad ... and anyway dad's still a fuckin joke, loike -- why don't i just switch him to hospice already, and loike -- why don't big yummy brother jacek just get his cute lil ass over here and rail my even cuter little ass like a japanese magnet line ;-- blow so much cum up in me i bust it out the nose like milk duds -- aw, yeah. brux got that unsexy. brux gets in his big ol' joey chair erry day and spreads his insecure neurotic ramblins to erry open ear like a sweet honey combed and spooted loogie ill-suited as the lozenge ya shoved up yer arsehole!

cpt. haruspex jolted up in the hothouse. over the counter and across the floor. you saw it happening. backlit by the green velvet arabesque. cpts. schreibermachen and psychorrhax had been there listening.

-- do you suppose they can see us sitting here, psychorrhax?

the voice came so close, you could feel the heat on your ear.

-- i can say with certainty that it's always absolutely intentional.

peering through the windowless frame, no glass to bend light nor ripple, the conversation paid them no mind. the enlisted men and the goons were synonymous in description and form. their canvass, their khaki and pleather shone with the gloss of any black regalia we could skin by our own. through the air, rending the currents, a boot twirled as an axe-head to bash cpt. haruspex, gesticulating wildly, back into his seat.

so close, it tickled your neck.

-- they know not that it's us, cpt. schreibermachen.

-- we are anonymous amongst ourselves, for living in our way, so splendid and so open, we have invited others to do likewise.

-- do you suppose we ought have them executed, cpt. schreibermachen?

-- we'd hurt none but ourselves, laik.

while reviewing the footage captured by the sentry drone, cpt. schreibermachen drained himself of a liter of blood as he stood crumbling before the wall which was his brother clinging to him.

this set of men -- observing the other set of men.

their resemblance was indeed uncanny as stated.

-- those men who went down there... they look exactly as us!

-- their names too ... are schreibermachen, psychorrhax and haruspex.

-- they... must be our conscious duplicates!

brux cleared his throat. with the screech of a PA, he whirred.

-- naw, mate. sure it ain't helpin, our evident and irrefutable popularity, what with the lil monopoly we got goin (brux is the winner -- none of you are beatin brux. brux is gonna take all the property, all the money, all your dignity, free time, love, hate and capacity to think original thought) but i consulted the officer's records at the archive of officer viewin (never a finer collection of squeezable asses!) and they are officers -- of equal rank with us -- sharin our surnames by sheer coincidence since shared birth. makes ya wonder, though -- how long they've all known each other?

laika's eyes lingered within a bound document he let hang open.

-- this man you are looking at, sir. he is the cpt. joey schreibermachen who continuously supplies the "forgeries" you have violently expelled and defiled from the orthodox library of all published arts. he has amassed a considerable following as a renegade, outsider and sensual man of the people, despite his prodigious learning and pompous manner.

-- he is a him, psychorrhax? great gehenna, his prose style is ghastly!

(his strange and oscillating manner, to say nothing of the other chimerical assemblages made me suspect it was a collective or historical golem!)

-- he is a man writing in a manner after his own heart. you would appreciate him surely more as an original than as an imitation.

-- he takes my body, my name, my soul, but then he thinks he can have his own prose style? what sense does that make you, psychorrhax?

(bro, i think you should like... totally hang out with the other joey, bro.)

-- to whom is the shade most loyal, the eyes or to the light?

-- the eclipse we view only by its shadow.

joey needed to take some time. to process, in the lukewarm bitterness of his day old coffee -- that he wasn't the only joey in the world anymore.

-- if our influence is to remain this sharp and persistent, psychorrhax, we can have no hope if we are to run from it. to attempt to remain ignorant of what we now know is simple cowardice, and cowards are now and forever denied the gift which is the dignity of life.

-- to refuse to act is simply to die.

-- we must act, then. act with what certainties we allow ourselves, and remain affirmative within uncertainty, for eyes pressed forward to the sky which is our only horizon, we may reach peak speed, fortified in body and purified of spirit, so the only filth we shall accrue will be the debris and the droplets, the splattering of insects, upon the visors which too conceal our sight with the necessary data we cannot navigate without!

I thought I was doing a kind thing and contributing when I ordered a super plush, fluffy white, cute animal throw blanket for my little GF. I just figured she could snuggle with it and enjoy it. Hawks have shown up on my fence post that are normally not found in the city at all. Depraved NYC Rockers MICK’S JAGUAR Turn Loose “Georgian Pine”

Sometimes you're just in the mood for an old fashioned, beer drinking, bottle breaking rock 'n' roll good time and MICK'S JAGUAR surely delivers. Their new record holds nothing back lyrically, with titles like "Speed Dealer," "Molotov Children," "Nothing to Lose," and "Free On The Street" (which I've been singing a lot lately). Then there's the band's three guitar attack! Musically, 'Salvation' (2022) is a rousing, fist-raising, fire-starting nightbreed that scratches all the right itches for me.

Today, Doomed & Stoned is bringing you an advance listen to its closing track, "Georgian Pine," which vocalist/guitarist Grace Hollaener tells us "is inspired by Matthew McConaughey's performance as Moondog in Harmony Korine's masterpiece The Beach Bum. It's an anthem for the apathetic resistance (see trend of 'quiet quitting') to the horrors of proto-fascism, climate change, and late capitalism that plague our modern condition. It's also a cracker jack little ditty about getting high and eating fast food."

"We always like to throw a curveball with the album closer," says singer John Martin. "So, when Grace took over lead vocals for this pop banger sans guitar solo, we figured it is the perfect way to find 'Salvation' after the nine pissed off tracks that came before. It's the sun coming up after a blackout night at the bar. Maybe things will be okay after all."

Born in the wild, alive to stalk death, and destined to make righteous noise via the annihilation of shit rock, Mick's Jaguar is a force to reckon with.

Formed in Brooklyn many moons ago, as a one-off Stones’ covers band for an impromptu New Year’s Eve party, at its core, the NYC collective is the bastard son of an unholy union between Judas Priest and Guns N' Roses.

Their debut album – 2018’s 'Fame and Fortune' – received praise from both American and European press alike, with Classic Rock Magazine noting that the only way to describe their sound is, "If Ace Frehley was in Thin Lizzy and it was the summer of 1977...and they were all really into the Sex Pistols...and AC/DC."

Since 2018, the band has toured nationwide, making appearances at the inaugural Psycho Smokeout in Los Angeles and Desertfest New York, as well as opening for legendary punk and hard rock acts like Airborne, The Adicts, and Turbonegro’s late/great Hank von Hell.

After losing their original bassist amidst the dense jungle boughs of Thailand, Mick’s Jaguar have since enlisted close friends Jack Ridley (Drowners) and Aaron Roche (Wye Oak, Anhoni, Tōth) to record another round of ten, bar fighting rock tracks at Brooklyn’s Figure 8 Recording with engineer Philip Weinrobe (Adrianne Lenker, Alanis Morissette). The result? Their killer new record, Salvation, which once again finds the band living too late, bound for hell and quite possibly, the last great rock and roll band on the planet.

“Like every band says at every show these days, it feels incredible to be back,” says vocalist John Martin. “But after the last three years of bullshit, this is the music you need to hear. Having both Tee Pee and Totem Cat in our corner is huge too. We're stoked to see there's a new wave of bands coming up that are making music for rock fans like us.”
