Pazu and Sheeta from Studio Ghibli's "Laputa"/"Castle in the Sky" remind me a lot of Heisuke (Hakuouki) and Chie (OC) in my fic "A Friend Like You", so that's why I decided to draw this 100% human artwork featuring them! 🏰💖 This is my way of protesting against that shameful AI Ghibli trend. 👎 Here's a quote from the movie that conveys my feelings better than I ever could:

"This is a song from my home in the valley of Gondoa that explains everything. It says: 'Take root in the ground, live in harmony with the wind, plant your seeds in the winter, and rejoice with the birds in the coming of spring.' Introducing my Touken Ranbu OC Kazusanosuke Kaneshige (上総介兼重) Todo Heisuke's sword!

UUUUUUUUGHHHHH!!!!! I FINALLY GOT THIS DONE I was sick with COVID for like OVER A MONTH and it was hard to move or do any work.

Anyway, while researching, I kept running into conflicting sources on what type of sword Heisuke's was. One source said it was a Naginata another one said it was a Uchinogatana another a Tachi and Hakuouki said it was a Wakizashi. So, I did versions of him as other types of swords.

I might change the color palette later. Since I'm still unsure of whether or not it fits the character. Also for his damaged sprite, I imagine he would have a cut on his forehead and a broken headband and a reference to what happened to the real-life Heisuke. I also put Kazusanosuke's naginata version in heels because the naginata was historically primarily a woman's weapon but Heisuke was said to have practiced a men's version of welding the naginata. Also, he has a crush on Shotsuren (Chizuru's sword). Also, can you guess who's leaning on Kazusanosuke's shoulder 😉

It's been a few days since I finished drawing my entry (featuring Heisuke and Chie 💖) for Tumblr's Canon/OC Week (which started on the 17th) and I've been dyiiiing to share it with you guys, haha, but I'm waiting for Day 6 of the event to arrive to do so! 😆

My health has also improved a lot! 👀 The doctor said I'll probably be able to finish the treatment soon (Fingers crossed! 🤞), so I guess I'll keep working on my fic in the meantime (I'm undecided whether to translate yet another chapter of "A Friend Like You" into English or finish writing the Spanish version's newest one, lol).

✍While we wait for the 22nd, I'm sharing some traditional sketches of Heisuke, Souji, and Shinpachi (Hakuouki) that I drew back in 2016 (I remember having sketched quick portraits of Sano and Toshi too but I guess they're in another sketchbook?):

I made a height chart for the Hakuouki characters based on what their height is listed as on the official illustration book. I find it a useful art reference when drawing fanart. Fell free to take and use this obviously.

Here's a translation of another of those DS CD dramas...2/4 for January. I should really go looking for short content after... since I go for quantity instead of length for posts. 😂

Also I got lucky and managed to buy a ticket for Tennocon! That's in July so I'm sure as hell not going to be translating that week. Sorta debating about spending an extra day in London (ON, not UK🤣) though when I go since do have co-workers there that I've only seen online, even if that might result in a higher hotel cost...

Toudou: Ah… if things were normal, I'd be drinking and having fun at Shimbara with Shinpat-san now… Damn it, Hijikata-san really is too much. It was just a small mistake, breaking the shoji door, then he just says that I'm not allowed out. It's rare for me to be off duty at night, but isn't it to much that I have to stay at headquarters the entire time? Speaking of which, what's Chizuru doing? Let's go see… For example, when Shinpachi was training last time and broke the shoji door in the dojo last time, he didn't say anything and pushed the blame onto me before running away!

(goes over to Chizuru's room)

Harada: No, no, that was Shinpachi's fault...

Toudou: That's odd? Why is Sano-san's voice here? Did he come to speak to Chizuru too?

Toudou: Seriously...?
