Tourism and Rural Development: A Policy Perspective.
Tumblr media
Tourism has high potential to stimulate economic growth and social change in rural areas because it contributes to local economies, support other products value chains, distributes benefits across both seasonal and geographic grounds, and promotes the conservation of cultural and natural heritage. Through the UNWTO Tourism for Rural Development Programme, the Organization seeks to enhance these and other opportunities that tourism can bring to rural areas. To devise adequate actions and develop impactful initiatives, it is essential to have solid knowledge and data to help support and monitor the evolution of this important agenda.

Canadians planning to visit Europe next year will have to pay for a travel authorization — not a visa — as the European Union looks to strengthen its border security measures.
Starting in 2024, Canadian passport holders will be required to apply online for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) if they plan to stay in any of these 30 European countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Currently, Canadian citizens can enter Europe without any travel permit or visa and stay for up to three months.
However, if their stay exceeds 90 days, a visa is required.
From next year, Canadian travellers will have to fill out a form with their personal information, travel document details, level of education and current occupation, details about the intended stay, as well as any criminal convictions. [...]

Brazil postpones visa requirements for U.S., Canada and Australia citizens to April
Brazilian officials say they have postponed for the second time the reintroduction of requirements to obtain tourist visas for citizens of the U.S., Australia and Canada
Tumblr media
Brazil postponed for the second time the reintroduction of requirements to obtain tourist visas for citizens of the U.S., Australia and Canada, officials said.
Former president Jair Bolsonaro scrapped the visa requirements in 2019 to support the tourism industry, but the three countries continued to demand visas from Brazilians. The South American country requires visas from travelers based on principles of historical reciprocity and equal treatment.
The government initially postponed the visa implementation on Oct. 1. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in September then set Jan. 10 as the new deadline. On Thursday night, Brazil's presidency said it would be postponed yet again till April. 10.

Canadian tourists looking to travel to Brazil will be required to have a visitor visa to enter the country starting October 1, 2023.
Brazil reinstated its visitor visa requirements for Canada — so did Australia, Japan and the US in March.
In 2019, former president Jair Bolsonaro stopped the visa requirements to encourage more tourism. However, the four countries continued to require visas from Brazilian tourists.
"The decision followed consultations with these four countries on the possibility of granting visa exemption to Brazilian nationals, in compliance with the principle of reciprocity," stated the Brazilian government in a release.
It added that the country "does not grant unilateral visitor visa exemption to other countries without reciprocity." [...]

Brazil Reinstates Visa Requirements for Travelers From the US, Canada, and Australia
In a return to pre-Bolsonaro precedent, the country establishes visa procedures based on reciprocity.
Tumblr media
If you’re heading to Brazil in the new year, there’s an extra step to add to your to-do list. Beginning January 10, travelers from the United States, Canada, and Australia will need to acquire an e-visa in order to enter the country. Until then, citizens of these countries will be able to visit Brazil—for business as well as pleasure, per a press release—without these short-term visitor visas (so long as they are staying for no more than 90 days.)
The process for obtaining a visa will purportedly be a quick and easy one, although all that is known at this time is that applications and issuances will be handled entirely electronically. Procedures are still being finalized by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will provide additional details when available.
