So considering it’s black history month, and I’m a metalhead, I’ll do my best to give anyone who finds this a smattering of metal bands with black members:

Skindred:

Literally just found out about them like 5 minutes ago. Hailing from Wales, Skindred combine metal and reggae, alongside a lot of hip-hop, hardcore, ska, and dubstep elements. Their lead singer is Benji Webbe.

P.O.D.:

When nu-metal was all the rage, P.O.D. was riding the wave, and their platinum-selling album “Satellite” celebrates 20 years back in ‘21. Their bassist is Traa Daniels.

Animals as Leaders:

An instrumental prog metal band, Animals as Leaders qualifies a djent, and are highly beloved of those who want the most cerebral music possible. The band leader and guitarist is Tosin Abasi.

Living Colour:

One of those bands that got lost in the mess of 80s/90s hard rock and metal acts, Living Colour scored a Grammy in 1990 for Best Hard Rock Performance with this song, but remain largely unknown to most hard rock or metal fans. The current lineup consists of Vernon Reid, Corey Glover, Will Calhoun, and Doug Wimbish.

I realize I missed several more famous bands with black members, such as Sevendust, Body Count, and Suicidal Tendencies, but this is hopefully a start for the average listener.
