So! Festivids 2024 is out! I’ve spent the past couple evenings browsing through, and some of the initial vids that caught my eye:

Los Ageless (LA Confidential). My favourite neo-noir, and this vid is so good. The song choice is excellent, with some brilliant line matches, and I love the overall pull of it, the characters mired by the city and the system, until they lose enough to lose their minds and choose the things they’re not willing to lose.

Psionia Prologue (Invasion of the Body Snatchers ’56, ’78, ‘93). The layering in this is spectacular, building on the echoes between the three versions of the story to kind of … build the inevitability? This has happened before, it will happen again, you are never truly safe. So creepy. So good.

Science/Visions (Scavengers Reign). All the vids for this show are amazing (see also Symbiosis and The World Observed), but I think this one is just … Such an intense, pounding, driving story of becoming. Questioning, understanding, and becoming, in ways both horrifying and transcendent. Oh, it’s incredible.

Little Dark Age (Chess of the Wind). I haven’t seen this movie, but this vid creates such a tense, suffocating atmosphere of this house and these two women and the slow boil of terrible things that gradually shatter everything.

The Yawning Grave (The Fall). This movie is so gorgeous, but this vid pulls in past the visuals to the smaller, harder, darker, and more hopeful, character story beneath, and it’s beautiful.

Phantom Stranger (Severance). Severance plus Rob Zombie combined to create a very intense, shuddery, cyberpunk sort of experience, highlighting the disconnect and unreality, before building to a fabulous refrain of ‘phantom stranger’ as worlds collide. Truly excellent.

Arnaq (Woman) (True Detective: Night Country). Sometimes the pursuit of justice is an active one, and it might not come at the hands you expect.

Daffodil (Sapphire & Steel). Florence and the Machine plus Sapphire & Steel is already such an excellent match, and this vid is so intensely creepy. I love how it focuses on Sapphire as the vector and channel and oracle for so much of the horror of the show, though Steel is no slouch either (the line ‘there is no bad’ as poor sacrificed George Tully waves at them and Sapphire flinches away, good god). I love this show, and this vid is such a spectacular tribute.

And then some more cheerful and nostalgic vids:

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Some Like It Hot). This is a lovely, lovely vid of Jerry/Daphne just enjoying the experience of being a woman. Palling around with Sugar, getting immediately sucked into the girl time with the band, enjoying the experience of being romanced as a woman by Oswald. Just. Enjoying a world he/she’d never gotten to experience before. It really does highlight how cheerfully he/she got into the experience (especially in comparison with Joe).

Better Not Wake the Baby (The Court Jester). *cackles* A truly excellent vid that highlights the oft-forgotten fact that through all the delightful nonsense in this film, there was a helpless infant king being smuggled around the castle of his enemies the entire damned time.

Maps for the Getaway (Holiday 1938). This is just such a warm and lovely vid about a slowly and sweetly building set of connections (both romantic and otherwise).

Belerick ini terhitung hero yang paling efisien untuk menantang hero-hero dengan DPS tinggi seperti Kimmy serta Claude. Kemampuan pasifnya, Deadly Thorns, benar-benar efisien untuk menantang hero-hero type DPS. Sebab pasifnya ini akan mengubah damage yang diberi oleh musuh. Disamping itu kemampuan ini akan membuat Belerick mempunyai darah yang paling tebal.

Sesaat kemampuan pertama kalinya cukup baik untuk memberi crowd control untuk musuh. Kemampuan ini akan memberi dampak slow serta dampak taunt, yaitu akan memaksakan musuh untuk menyerbu Belerick sepanjang 1.2 detik (serupa seperti kemampuan 2 Gatotkaca). Kemampuan ini sudah pasti benar-benar bermanfaat untuk men-trigger pasif Belerick.

Kemampuan ke-2 nya, Nature's Strike juga baik untuk memburu musuh. Sebab kemampuan ini akan tingkatkan movement speed Belerick sepanjang 3 detik. Kemampuan ini akan mengakibatkan dampak immobilize ke musuh yang mengenainya sepanjang 2 detik serta akan memberi damage ke mereka sekitar 4 kali. Bila kemampuan pasifnya aktif, ia dapat memberi damage yang tinggi sekali gengs.

Belerick ini benar-benar baik untuk timfight serta pas untuk konter hero-hero DPS tinggi. Disamping itu hero ini benar-benar gampang untuk dipakai. Jadi tidak ada kelirunya untuk coba push rank dengan hero ini gengs.

8. Hero Hylos

Di Season 18 ini, Hylos terhitung tank yang OP. Hero ini punyai kemampuan Crowd Control yang paling efisien untuk menantang hero-hero gesit. Disamping itu ia kekuatan yang paling bagus untuk jaga hero core team. Disamping itu ia mempunyai HP yang paling tebal karena kemampuan pasifnya, Thickened Blood.

Salah satunya kemampuan yang membuat Hylos ini cukup OP ialah kemampuan ke-2 nya, Ring of Punishment. Kemampuan ini memberi dampak slow yang ngeselin serta dapat memberi DPS yang tinggi. Kemampuan ini dapat kita pakai untuk menerobos langsung ke baris belakang musuh untuk menutup gerakan hero core musuh seperti mage serta marksman.

Hylos terhitung tank cover yang sangatlah baik karena kemampuan pertama kali serta ke-2 nya. Ke-2 kemampuan ini benar-benar bermanfaat untuk jaga hero carry dari sasaran team musuh. Ke-2 kemampuan ini dapat kita pakai untuk mencegat hero musuh yang usaha membidik carry team dari belakang.

Untuk kalian yang push rank di Season 18 ini tidak ada kelirunya untuk coba hero Hylos ini gengs. Yang perlu kalian kerjakan saat mainkan hero ini ialah melekat ketat hero core team agar aman dari team musuh.

9. Grock

Hero Grock adalah untuk kalian yang menyukai bermain agresif saat memakai tank, karena itu Grock ialah opsi yang terbaik. Grock ini terhitung hero yang sangat gaduh, khususnya di early game. Karena kecuali mempunyai damage yang tinggi, hero ini benar-benar kuat.

Salah satunya kemampuan yang membuat Grock mempunyai damage yang tinggi ialah kemampuan pertama kalinya, Power of Nature. Damage dari kemampuan ini termasuk sangatlah tinggi gengs. Bahkan juga di early game cukup buat memukul hero carry musuh untuk kembali ke base, bahkan juga langsung bisa mati jika kita kombo dengan hero lain.

Kemampuan pertama kalinya ini dapat juga membuat Grock immune atau kebal pada seluruh dampak CC bila dipakai di dekat tembok atau turret. Berikut yang membuat Grock jadi tank yang paling istimewa. Disamping itu movement speed-nya akan bertambah, hingga bisa lumayan gampang untuk memburu musuh atau kabur.

Kemampuan ke-2 nya, Guardian's Barrier juga baik untuk menutup salah satunya hero musuh yang usaha kabur. Selanjutnya kemampuan ultimatenya, Wild Charge. Kecuali dapat memberi damage yang tinggi, kemampuan ini cukup baik untuk menggagalkan ultimate musuh sebab mempunyai charge yang jauh. Misalkan berperan untuk menggagalkan ulti Odette serta Lolita.

Kemampuan pasifnya, Ancenstrall Gift akan membuat Grock mempunyai defense yang tinggi. Karena physical serta magis defense yang ia punya akan bertambah saat ada di dekat tembok. Disamping itu movement speed-nya akan bertambah.

Kunci penting bermain Grock ialah bermain agresif sebab ia mempunyai damage yang tinggi di early game. Hingga benar-benar pas kita pakai untuk menghalangi perubahan hero core musuh. Selanjutnya upayakan selalu untuk memelekat di tembok agar pasifnya aktif.

10. Khufra

Hero Khufra Dari pertama kali keluarkan di orisinal server, Khufra adalah tank yang kerap di-banned. Semenjak waktu itu terhitung tank terhebat, bahkan juga di Season 18 saat ini. Hero ini benar-benar baik untuk meng-counter hero-hero gesit seperti Gusion serta Ling.

Yang membuat Khufra benar-benar beresiko ini ialah kemampuan ke-2 nya, Bouncing Ball. Kemampuan ini akan membuat Khufra jadi bola serta membal sekitar 3x. Nah musuh yang usaha memakai kemampuan blink atau dash untuk melalui Khufra akan memperoleh knock up. Dengan kemampuan ini Khufra benar-benar efisien untuk menantang hero-hero gesit seperti Ling, Gusion, Harith, serta hero-hero gesit yang lain.

Disamping itu, kemampuan ke-2 ini akan membuat Khufra mempunyai pertahanan yang paling kuat. Karena ia akan memperoleh tambahan damage reduction yang tinggi. Dengan demikian ia akan susah untuk dibunuh, apa lagi jika digabungkan dengan poin Wings of the Apocalypse Queen.

Sesaat kemampuan pertama kalinya, Tyrant's Revenge benar-benar efisien untuk memberi kejutan attack. Makin lama kemampuan ini didesak, karena itu dash akan makin jauh. Bila berkenaan sasaran, maka terserang knock back. Dengan demikian kemampuan ini benar-benar baik untuk gagalkan atau decast beberapa kemampuan seperti kemampuan ulti Claude.

Ke-2 kemampuan berikut yang membuat Khufra benar-benar beresiko. Nah bila hero ini dilepaskan, seharusnya kalian pick hero tank ini gengs. Apa lagi jika menantang hero gesit Gusion serta Ling.

Ontological Graffiti

"Ontological Graffiti" Michael Bertiaux

Michael Bertiaux is a writer for whom the term complex is not broad enough. For anyone who has read his seminal (an obscurant, confusing, preposterous, beautiful and strange) work the Voudon Gnostic Workbook is aware of the tangential nature of Bertiaux's writing. He is a poet magician, lost on the path of Gnosis.

When I lived in Chicago in the 1990s I was aware of the Voudon Gnostic Workbook but for some reason I had it in my head that Bertiaux was already dead. Little did I know then that he was in fact very much alive, just a recluse as I would eventually become. For decades his fame grew even as he hid among his own practice and researches, only becoming a public figure in 2004, to have cancer put a hold on that for nearly another decade.

  Bertiaux's praxis centers on an organized group of Vodouisants that began in Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago's southside sometime in the mid 1960s. From these experiences Bertiaux developed the concepts of Voudon Gnosis that have grown into a formidable tradition of its own, with followers throughout the world.

Which brings us to his recent exceptional magnum opus "Ontological Graffiti." An incredible work, spanning the breadth of Bertiaux's ideas and produced in a way that we are given some insight into his patterns of thinking and creative practice.

The book itself, published by none other than Fulgur Press - the originators of talismanic publishing, is an object of art. Hand stitched bound signatures, letterpress embossing on the cover, dustjacket, and endpapers, high resolution full colour reproductions of dozens of Bertiaux's paintings and packed with black and white ink illustrated annotations throughout the book is nothing short of breathtaking.

Fulgur have outdone themselves with this edition. The satin wine coloured cloth binding with metallic blue embossed text and illustration are hidden under a beautiful thick papered dust jacket with similar metallic text over a dark toned Bertiaux image. The endpapers, similarly embossed with the metallic illustrations open up to full colour plates throughout.

In conversation with Robert Ansell of Fulgur its clear that, while he practices the binding traditions of craftsmanship found throughout publishing history (stitched signatures, true headbands, lithograph printing) he has no interest in merely replicating the publishing aesthetics and traditions of the past. Fulgur are pushing the form of occult publishing, design, and typography into a much needed modern aesthetic, adding to the history of bookbinding at an aesthetic level of Chatto & Windus in the 19th century.

Bertiaux's practice is one of idiosyncratic Haitian oriented vodoun mixed with European grimoire traditions and the spiritism movement of mediumship. Through the practice of mediumship Bertiaux creates vivid paintings that in turn act as sigilizations of various spirits contacted in a transcendental state.

Outlining the practice of the infamous 'Hyde Park Lodge' in Chicago during the period of 1965-75 the lodge represented a collective centered around the guidance of Dr. Hector-Francois Jean Main. Working with the material of the Vodoun Gnostic Workbook, Bertiaux's historically dense and abstract guidebook to Vodoun Gnosis the Lodge utilized the acrylic paintings as part of their rituals.

"Art that is inspired by certain forms of ontology and the use of oracles - or Ontological Graffiti - is interactive with the world of voudoun spirits, and has its validation in the exploration of all occult utterances, and the true placement of these utterances in a hierarchical-logical graph, or map, of the different powers which each occult school claims as their ideal or goal." - M. 'Ontological Graffiti' is an absolute must for any occultist's library. It is an object of pure art, transcending the concept of talismanic publish and merging it with the history of large format art books, Bertiaux and Fulgur have created a work of historic proportions. A beautiful, mad, illuminating, transcendent piece of historic publishing at its zenith by an artist whose gnosis is manifest in a congregation of incredible visual art and astounding writing.
