So I was feeling kinda depressed since my blog kinda dies when I’m focusing on my health and irl life, and character development, writing and art takes a lot of time to create something impressive and coherent.

so since I need notes for my blog to stay alive while I work on stuff i thought I’d make a cool sans au to show everyone on tumblr so I get thousands of notes and really cool fanart and get featured in tiktoks and stuff with my character.

Since this is all it takes to become famous in the undertale fandom I thought I’d just throw away all the research I’m doing and just go with what works yanno?

Truly I don't understand the people who try to circumvent filters for words like "donations", "PayPal" etc. by censoring the words when they make posts asking for help. I know there's always a ton of discourse about online mutual aid and all but it's kind of beside the point, like do people think if someone is trying to block those posts and you manage to force yours in front of their eyeballs anyways that they'll suddenly change their mind?

I see it on literally every single donation/mutual aid post and I'm genuinely curious what the thought process is there.

I don't know how many of my followers are furries but we just lost one of ours.

He died because the medical industry in the US refused to help. He was murdered in a million little ways, with a million automated systems.

He was on bluesky no more than five hours ago, now he's gone.

Dragoneer ran FurAffinity, which is more or less the furry art site. It looks like its' from the early aughts, has no native pdf support, and has zero discoverability or algorithmic function. It's home to me, it's always been home.

No matter how often I moved or how often my life radically changed, there was FA. I met my husband on the forums. Through the majority of its' life, Dragoneer kept it running. He never sold us out, never tried to keep up with trends. It's a community.

And there is something bitter about losing someone who was key to keeping one of the relics of the internet before corporations took over.

We have our home, but it's lost its' keeper.

i know social media algorithms suck dick and all that but i genuinely think one of the biggest reasons it's gotten so bad is that people are now trying to manipulate the algorithm to their own benefit and as a result a lot of the "trending" things are just filled with total junk.

like yeah. algorithms suck. but they suck worse when the algorithm is essentially primed to deliver you nothing but low-effort interaction bait because people just have an intrinsic need to please an algorithm. and it sucks even even more when you wanna actually step up and grow a following, because so many people have fucked the algorithm up by trying to exploit it and trick it that you're essentially expected to do the same.

i probably sound like a total boomer for saying this stuff and it's probably not that popular of an opinion to have anyways but like. every time i see an artist on instagram or something complaining about "the algorithm" while very obviously trying to use a new engagement boosting trick or a random post with pinned comments that are very obviously paid ads for a fucking meme page of all things i lose another crumb of my dwindling patience

how to use tumblr:

- follow the gimmick blogs. thats literally it they reblog good shit

- I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, reblog posts (dont just like them thats lame.)

- there is no algorithm.

- interact with people!!! SEND ASKS (SEND ME ASKS SEND ME ASKS)

- when blocking porn bots, mark them as spam instead of sexual content. i read somewhere on here that gets rid of them faster

- check trending every now and then to see whats going on. bonus points if spn is trending (its the only way i get news)

- get involved in fandom! thats the whole site

your blog is basically your own small subreddit. some people curate this heavily to fit a theme, like a sub, most people don't

reblogs are culturally equivilant to upvotes but functionally equvilant to crossposting

there is an algorithm. it sucks and nobody uses it. turn it off in settings. everything is generally chronological

likes are functionally equivilant to saving a post

you've probably already seen this but change your icon and put something in your bio or people WILL assume you're a bot. personal info not required

generally, anything you would put as a comment on a thread should go in the tags or the replies of a post. only add comments in reblogs if you want it to become part of the base post

tags are mostly equivilant to flairs, used for organization and commentary

your dashboard is an aggregation of everyone you follow

there is an r/all equivilant(trending page) but it sucks and nobody uses it

our search also sucks. your best bet is using tumblr.com/tagged/[TAG] and not /search

there are no mods

by extension, reporting something doesn't put it in front of the mods, it sends it to staff, who may or may not do anything(usually they don't)

there is no karma, there are no karma limits. anyone can reblog anything, comment/reply to anything, or post in any tag

"reposting"(reblogging) old content doesn't matter. people can and will reblog the same post multiple times, including in a row

CAVEAT. reposting someones art(NOT reblogging, making a new post) is a dick move. i know this is commonplace on fandom subs but its not necessary here. everything you post should be [OC] unless you are reblogging. or posting shitty memes
