Is it just me or are mobile games just getting worse?
I don't necessarily mean that the stories and gameplay itself is inherently worse, but over the last decade or two I've noticed certain trends.
First up, it used to be a game would prompt you for a MICRO transaction in order to, f.ex., stop getting shown ads. It used to be a one time payment of anything from one to maybe ten dollars (rounding up the stupid 99 cent bullshit). Nowadays comparable games will sell you tickets, skip-its, to skip a certain number of ads, or charge you a monthly subscription fee, and even then these may not rid you of All ads, just some of them, the ones that are otherwise unskippable.
On the subject of ads. False advertising has always been a bit of an issue with mobile games, but I feel like it's grown steadily worse. Every other ad I'm shown is for games I have previously played and thus I can say with 100% certainty that the ads do not represent the gameplay.
I'm also seeing basically the same ad, over and over, which is apparently for 4-5 different games, despite those games being listed as different types of games. A bubble shooter, hidden object, match 3, other puzzle games all showing the same ad, solving the same exact puzzles in each, none of which are the kind of puzzle game that revolves around the puzzle shown.
This used to be the "pull the pin" sort of ad, but now it's these interlocking circles you're (apparently) supposed to detach from one another.
Same puzzles, several different games, all of it fake.
And again, on the subject of ads. There have always been shitty, poorly made, cheap looking puzzle games that were never really "games" but ad farms, where what they were farming were ad watches. Your phone, you, being tricked into essentially being soil in which they grown their profits. The companies that make these make tons of them, the first 20-30 minutes of gameplay is mostly ad free, and then it ramps up, attempting to trick you into sticking it out, trying to make use of your sunk cost fallacy to maximize their ad revenue.
And that's not the only mass produced game out there. There are companies that re-use the same assets, same images, same level designs, same gameplay, same code essentially, only released in increments and with a slight environmental design variety to imply this is a new game being actively created as you play it despite being the exact same game as the last one, two, five, made by the same group of people. The company may even use multiple names to pretend to be new so that you can't just check what else they've made and find the same game over and over.
And then there's the prices.
They've really gotten well out of hand.
For approximately 15 usd a month I can subscribe to a massive online role playing PC game with active player support, a vast variety of activities, and so on. For the same amount of money I can maybe buy a medium pack of resources in one mobile game that won't last more than an hour of gameplay, won't give any lasting benefits, won't do anything really.
Multiplayer mobile games are very often war games where the winner is inevitably whoever can spend the most money on it every month, and those are in no way affordable to most people. They also mostly advertise themselves as games of exploration or of building when in reality the gameplay requires you to amass the largest army possible and invest several hours and hundreds of dollars to prevent your base from being raided frequently enough to make any exploration or building functionally impossible.
The micro-transactions have gone macro.
In short, it feels like mobile games these days are sold to you with false advertising, absolutely stuffed full of ads, and so unreasonably expensive you're better off putting the equivalent money in a jar for a couple of weeks and buying a whole ass PC setup instead.
Being that it's not a heavily regulated market, can this not be used as an example of how capitalism breeds neither innovation nor excellence?
(Yes, exceptions exist, but finding them in the very, very, very, very, heavily saturated with trash, marketplaces, with their absolutely garbage user interface is it's own pile of excrement.)

(It kind of falls in line with my robot au but with a twist)
A headless giant falls from the heavens and crashes into the sea. It sinks to the bottom where it begins to break down into vycelium and grows for years along the sea floor unnoticed and undiscovered.
Smash cut to young Silco and Vander hanging around when they see something peculiar, silvery vines growing up along the bank of a river. They pulse with a dim blue light and when they try to follow it under the water it seems to go on forever.
Out in the sea, the vines are producing bodies, but something’s wrong, they continue to grow into adult forms, yet they don’t move, they don’t show any sign of activity. (Without the head, brain matter cannot be replicated by the tendrification process and thus what has been produced are bodies without the main hub of the central nervous system, in essence they aren’t getting by orders) so at the bottom of the ocean are hundreds of brain dead bodies, still connected to their mother vine.
When the study Jayce was given by the Kiramman’s blows up, it sends out a ripple effect that interacts with the Vine along the sea floor and somewhat activates the bodies. They are compelled to move to the surface, the process is slow, they are heavy, and their unused muscles and hydraulics are weak, it takes years. When they finally reach the surface, it’s two years after Jayce and Viktor break into Hiemerdinger’s lab.
When they first rise out of the sea, ten or twenty foot monstrosities clambering like zombies out of the sea, it seems like the end of days. But they stop before they trample Zaun or Piltover.
Then they just stop and stand there like a wall because the reality is, they’re just drones that need to be told what to do.
As HexTech develops and grows the mechs are incorporated into the daily life, mostly as construction equipment, or military vehicles. Mechs were used to build the Hexgates due to their human like precision.
Piltover wasn’t the only city to get Mechs. Even though the enforcers were ordered to collect up all mechs and bring them to Piltover, Zaunite worked together to gather a few of their own.
Silco charges Singed and Jinx with exploring them (separately, he doesn’t want that mad doctor anywhere near his daughter ward) Much to Jinx’s disappointment Singed cracks the code first and the first person to be put into a suit is Sevika. At this point she’s still tuning through prototypes of prosthetics but is normally without an arm. The Mech ends up alleviating her phantom pain.
As demand increases, she spends more and more time within the suit. Eventually it gets to a point that when she exits the mech it feels like she’s losing her arm all over again. She takes shimmer to stop the pain and becomes like Silco, micro-dosing herself every day. She starts noticing how her body seems to be molding itself with the mech and one day she finds that her skin becomes stuck to the membrane holding her body within it. Her body is starting to change.
when Caitlyn shoots her, it’s a fatal shot. With her dying breaths she crawls into her mech suit and is absorbed into it. She becomes the first body to finally gain a hub and becomes a full complete being.
Viktor uses a mech to be the main architect of the Hexgates, however he experiencing the same thing as Sevika. Feeling bogged down by his limited human form.
Then it comes out that the mechs and revive people from death. It can litterally rejuvenate people. When Jinx blows up on the bridge, Silco places her in a suit, but there’s an error, she codes in the mech and it absorbs her into its body.
The Mech suits are more durable than a human body, they last longer than a human body. Viktor created the conditions for fusion and then allows himself to be absorbed to stop death. A trend occurs where people try to fuse with the suits to escape their human forms and gain immortality.

Billboards are often seen as a controversial way to advertise since they are pinpointed to one location and are extremely expensive, whereas social media has a better opportunity to reach more consumers.  The option to choose social media is a more effective tool to reach such a wide audience with a small amount of money. 
Since the company is distributed and sold at various locations, each store has the option to promote the beverage with its own sales promotions.  This is called the push strategy designed to increase demand by focusing on wholesalers, retailer,s and salespeople. 
The most common promotion is a bundle, two beverages for a lower price or a large quantity of twelve for a lower price than purchasing per can.  Grocery stores and gas stations are often the most frequent promotional ads placed.  I do believe they are effective because in an aisle where there are over sixty other beverages, what makes one brand stand out? A sale does. A little sign that pops out and gives a lower price is appealing to the eye. 
Personal selling is used amongst influencers and ambassadors videos such as Tiktok that is often used to create a face to face effect from seller to buyer. The seller will promote the product and communicate a code to the buyers, this code is distributed and advertised on their own platforms so followers can apply that code via checkout to receive a discount on the product.

Post-Fire Flight: How the January Wildfires Are Rewriting the Map for L.A. Real Estate Investors

The devastating wildfires that tore through Los Angeles in January have not only reshaped the physical landscape—they’ve also triggered a seismic shift in the region’s housing market, creating both displacement and opportunity for real estate investors.
According to Realtor.com® data, home sales surged in communities adjacent to burn zones, particularly around Pacific Palisades, where nearly 6,000 homes were lost. Marina Del Rey saw an 88% year-over-year jump in sales this winter, while Culver City spiked 77% and Santa Monica followed closely at 68.5%. These sales figures suggest a clear migration pattern: high-income families are seeking stability nearby, without straying too far from their original communities.
“As investors, we’re watching a micro-market transformation unfold in real time,” says Daniel Kaufman, President of Kaufman Development. “What we’re seeing is not just buyer migration—this is a rebalancing of perceived risk and value across submarkets. The data confirms that people want to stay anchored in West L.A., and that’s creating pressure—and opportunity—in adjacent pockets.”
While neighboring markets heat up, activity within the fire zones has collapsed. Pacific Palisades experienced a 78% decline in home sales in January and February compared to a year ago, and Altadena—a suburb ravaged by the Eaton Fire—saw a 66.7% drop. Malibu and Brentwood also saw year-over-year declines of 48.4% and 27.7%, respectively.
At the same time, land inventory is flooding into these devastated markets. Pacific Palisades and Altadena now lead the region in land listings, with fire-scorched lots comprising nearly half of all active inventory in Q1 2025. Altadena has seen an 800% increase in land listings since the same period last year, while Pacific Palisades has jumped from 12 land listings to 106.
Despite the trauma, these charred parcels are moving fast—and often above ask. A 9,932-square-foot lot in Pacific Palisades sold for well over its $999,000 asking price just weeks after the fire. In Altadena, a 9,109-square-foot lot changed hands in an all-cash deal for $550,000—more than $100,000 over list.
With property and capital losses from the fires estimated between $95 billion and $164 billion, according to the UCLA Anderson Forecast, the investment calculus in Southern California is shifting rapidly. Insurance settlements, shifting homeowner preferences, and permitting dynamics are expected to drive redevelopment activity for years to come.

The new market reality presents both risks and rare opportunities. Demand is concentrating in resilient submarkets that offer proximity to burn zones without the same environmental risk profile.
