I stopped updating my tumblr app in October, because I didn’t want the icon changing; I find apps on my phone based primarily on color and secondarily on shape. Then they introduced Tumblr Live and I had strong motivation not to update, because then it just wouldn’t appear on my app. 

And then the above happened, and I cracked up laughing, because now my strategy of not updating has begun to prevent me from seeing ads :D 

I’ve updated now, simply because it was also happening on friends’ posts and anyway you should keep your apps up to date for security reasons, but it gave me a good chuckle.

Tumblr had to start shadow-banning/censoring practically every other word on the Tumblr IOS app for “sensitive content” due to stupid Apple guidelines they have to comply with to remain in the App Store

Everyone saying "Tumblr should just take their app off the Apple App Store" drives me nuts. Apple has built an extremely locked-down ecosystem that makes it nearly impossible to install apps without the App Store. There are only two ways to side-load apps on iOS:

1. Jailbreak your phone, which is not viable for the average user.

2. Install the app via TestFlight, which still requires that Apple have approved it.

Tumblr does not have a choice in this. Either they follow Apple's restrictions, or there is no Tumblr app on iOS.

Note that Google does not have similar policies in the Google Play Store, and that even if they did, side-loading apps on Android is trivially easy. If this really bothers you, then don't make your next phone an iPhone. (Android phones have their own problems, of course--Apple legitimately does have a much better track record on privacy, but that's a tradeoff you'll have to make for yourself.)

you may have tumblr polls and not know it.

so apparently i have polls??! totally hidden, turns out. it all comes down to the fcuking legacy editor on desktop. 

here is what i see on my desktop dash when making a new post:  

no poll option anywhere in sight. 

turns out the issue is this fucker right here:

i prefer the layout and control of the legacy editor so i always have it turned on. for whatever reason (probably being the early stages of a new feature) tumblr polls is not available/does not appear if you're using this. 

to see if you have polls, switch the legacy editor OFF. 

making posts in the the new editor you will see the orange poll option appear. 

guys, this realisation almost fcuking broke me. for weeks(?) i've been waiting for some magic button to appear. now i wonder how long i've had the magic here all along and just didn't know it.

Did the last update of tumblr on android fuck up the colors of the dashboard/posts or it's just me?
