Eye Anon (I work at an eye doctor's office): I did think it was kind of weird that the auto-refractor and the IOP check happened at the same machine! The puff of air is the least accurate measurement of intraocular pressure, and while it sucks it sucks way less than the more accurate applanation method (blue light), which involves an implement touching your cornea. They're checking the pressure inside the eye to test for glaucoma (1/2)

I just remembered that I actually did have the implement-touching-your-cornea test one time instead of the air puff. Even though the concept of it freaks me out hugely, it didn’t hurt, which is more than I can say about the air puff, so sign me up for the eye-toucher. My grandfather had glaucoma so I understand the need to test for it but uggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh.

Don’t be sorry, I’m happy to learn cool new things and it’s always interesting hearing people talk about their jobs when they’re so enthusiastic!
