SADA CRUZEIRO TAKE ON BOLIVAR FOR SOUTH AMERICAN CLUBS TITLE

Argentina champions Personal Bolivar fought off the advances of hosts Montes Claros Volei and defending champions Sada Cruzeiro Contagem obliterated UPCN San Juan in Friday night's semifinals at the 2017 South American Club Championship.

Sada Cruzeiro crushed UPCN 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23) with some inspired plays by setter William Arjona, as Cubans Yoandy Leal with 17 points and 78% atacking efficiency and Robertlandy Simon with 15 and 75% led the attack. UPCN's best scorer was middle blocker Gustavo Molina with 12 points.

To close semifinals day, Montes Claros fought hard from two sets down to force a tie-break, but still fell to Personal Bolivar 3-2 (28-26, 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, 15-10). Silmar Antonio 'Pia' de Almeida and Australia's Thomas Edgar were instrumental in giving the Argentine side their two-set lead and the visitors even had a match point at 24-23 in the fourth, before their reception faltered allowing Montes Claros to rally back and send the game into a tie-break.

Volleyball will not have a champion because of the pandemic …

The Association of Clubs Argentina Volleyball League (ACLAV) and the four institutions that reached the semifinals in the competition that developed in the current season They decided to end the 2019-2020 tournament, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Leaders of ACLAV and the Bolívar Voley, Ciudad Voley, Gigantes del Sur de Neuquén and UPCN de San Juan clubs agreed this Monday, after videoconference, definitively interrupt the event, after the National Government decreed the extension of mandatory preventive social isolation until April 13.

In this way, the 2019-2020 edition will not have a champion, given “the impossibility of defining the title on the field”, highlighted the Association in a statement. For the preparation of the fixture for the next season, the positions of the regular phase of the 2019-2020 season will be taken into account.

The only exception will be the classification of a team for the South American Club 2021, a benefit usually reserved for the champion of the Argentine League.

The classified team will be defined at an upcoming meeting to be held by the ACLAV Board of Directors. The four semifinalists will fight for that place.
