First up is this curious specimen, taking a distinctly mathematical approach to the idea. D'you think their associates ever tease them about their title? At any rate, this is a fascinating piece of design. Copying spells is by no means untrodden ground in these colors, but the requirement for the spell to have been free is such a bizarre wrinkle that I can't help but be enthralled. It's a pretty hefty buy-in to get the effect online, too, so the card feels more fair than you'd think something centered around cheating mana costs to be. There's a decent amount of depth to the use cases, too. Sure, chaining this into a Mind's Desire is positively rapturous, but there are plenty of spells that are already free, or cast something for nothing as more of a formality, and suddenly those become worth their weight in gold. This really got the wheels in my head turning, and I can't really ask for more. Although, it is kind of odd to have a bird without flying. An ostrich aven, perhaps? That's just nitpicking, though. Good show!
@horsecrash — Hogaak, Tide of the Dead
Hogaak's back, baby! And hopeful not about to ruin a format this time. I saw a design like this tossed around several times this week, a card with a cost reduction mechanic that gets a bonus if you manage to shave it down to zero. None of them require quite this much reduction, though! The chance to get a huge beater that also traumatizes you (which is a sentence I don't get to say often) is a supremely tasty carrot on the end of the stick, though, and it sets my self-mill loving heart aflutter. Consume makes a fascinating companion to convoke here (although I'd also be interested in seeing what you can do with it by itself), allowing a real scale of quite how hard you want to commit. That's assuming you want the mill in the first place; an 8/8 trampler on the cheap is nothing to turn your nose up at. I appreciate the reminder text clearing up any confusion around the intersection of the mechanics, and I could see plenty of times when you'd rather tap but not sacrifice something. I'm not quite as sure about the inverse, but it's always good to keep the option open. My one concern is that the fact that any way to get this onto the battlefield without casting it (so reanimation, blink, or what have you) also counts for the effect feels a bit against the spirit of the card, but it's hardly a dealbreaker.
@nicolbolas96 — Desperate Necromage
Yeesh, desperate is right! This is one of those beautiful cards that completely reshapes the game around itself the second your opponent is aware of it, because now every single decision they make has to be made in respect to it. Cards with both first strike in deathtouch can often be unblockable if they don't give your opponent a compelling reason to interact with them, and while that's true of this for most of the game, boy does that flip on its head the second your life hits zero. It really does crystalize that feeling of being on the brink of death, but just one more good hit and you can take them out! I do really think the life loss on attack is deceptively important here. Obviously it advances the card's win condition, but by doing that it encourages you to be aggressive with a card that would otherwise sit back as a deterring blocker. Even more than that it introduces a real sense of riskiness, because if this is removed too early, even before you hit zero, you can suddenly find yourself in a very bad position. After all, a deck designed to lower your life total probably isn't packing many tools to raise it, and the lower you go, the more risk you run of being abruptly blown out. All in all, this is the kind of intersection of flavor and gameplay that just captivates me.

Some thoughts on Ex Astris
Okay so the TL;DR is: Go play it if you're someone who is mainly motivated by gameplay, it's one of the most enjoyable games i've played in like 10 years (im not kidding). the story is not bad, but it's very poorly told and leaves a lot to be desired. I should also warn that i'll probably spoil a couple of things, mainly on the gameplay side (because yes, I do believe some encounters are better if you dont know the gimmick).
Where do I even start, I only watched like 2 trailers before playting, i had 0 idea of what i was getting into, all i really knew about the game was that it was a full game release by the AK guys and that it was a turn based rpg. I legitimately bought it out of morbid curiosity, I was not expecting to find my favorite jrpg in a literal decade.
I'll go over what I liked the most and then explain the couple of issues I have with the game, it might sound like i loved it (which i did) but it's far from perfect and i think there's room for improvement. I think the combat is the real deal in this title, for those unfamiliar with it: it's a classic turn based jrpg but it has layers. The main 3 mechanics that make it stand out from other games is that each turn you have AP (action points) which limit what you can do each turn, however you can directly manipulate them with a combo system that gives you back AP. The second one is a parry system, during the enemy turn you can directly parry their attacks, you have 2 colors for parrying, both colors have different properties and there's certain attacks that can only be parried with the respective color. And lastly, theres a stagger bar, similar to FFXIII or posture bar in sekiro, although i think it's more akin to stagger in FFXIII. Once you break said bar you can enter hyper time for a few seconds where you have unlimited AP so you can combo them for massive damage. The combo system is very enjoyable, you will be blindly experimenting your combos for optimal damage each time you unlock new moves in the skill trees. Theres a very satisfying feeling to landing a big combo on an enemy that feels like it was entirely something you came up with. This sadly comes with a downside, once you figure out your big damage combos, there's not much of a reason to try anything different. It doesnt mean it stops being enjoyable but this is a wall most of games with combo systems have. Now the parry system, while it's fun, it sadly makes the game too easy. Sure theres enemies that will mix their timings to throw you off and a couple of unparriable attacks. But really, if you get good there's no reason to ever get hit. "But what about the unblockables?" yeah about that... Theres really just 3 enemies in the game that had them, and 2 of them were bosses, which you get a hard counter to the unblockable in the first boss that has it. I wish the game had more ways to work around you to make it more challenging. The only time the game REALLY tries to fuck you up is the final boss (this is a good thing) however it was still too easy. She really just makes the screen black and white and makes you parry based on the icon, then she makes you parry based on the color of the attack. This was sick and i wish there were more moments like this in the game. Now the dungeons were great, they feel like they belong in an older 3d zelda game. Sadly they dont get too crazy on the gimmicks, they were just box puzzles where you have to move them in the correct spots or point lasers to certain switches. Apparently this game has plans for DLCs so if theres something i wish upon to get explored more it would be this in particular. The rest of the game is the towns and the sidequests inside them, they're very usual stuff for a jrpg so you know what to expect, i cant elaborate much on it. Overall I think the game is meant to be replayed, by the end you're only able to fully build 3 characters out of 5 party members, sidequests expire and there's a bunch of stuff to mess around to make a playthrough different from the last one. The game changes a lot when you already know how it works or what really happens in the story.
Now the elephant in the room, the story: Yeah it's kinda just there, it's very poorly told. However it's HG and i can tell there was a lot of thought put into the wold building, it's very well made. It's just a shame that i could barely care about anything happening in it, even though I was kinda invested by the final hours i dont think that excuses the really bad storytelling. However starting my second playthrough is when I noticed it was indeed meant to be replayed. There's a bunch of stuff that feels so incredibly cryptic or really make no sense, once you go over it already having context it all makes sense and you just go like "oooh so that was they were talking about". I'm not excusing bad writing though, this is bad, but at least the story feels better on a second playthrough. Anyways, i'm kinda upset this was a mobile game, maybe if it wasnt, 10 people would've played it instead of just 5. I cant stress enough how this is a phone game that is way better than most of modern jrpgs in the market. it's like the devs went back and asked themselves what was the main appeal of the genre and what they thought made them fun to them and made an entire game around it. This is probably gonna be the biggest surprise of the entire year for me and i'm gonna have brainrot about this game for a while.

*opens my notes and adjusts glasses.* Okay now bare with me bc I swore I saw what bishop was convicted for being soemthing related to bodily harm but I struggling trying to find where I saw it. But regardless, let's remember he was convicted and spent 30 yrs. He himself says he doesn't like that moment of his life.

I haven't read into bishop in his previous gameplay with his original creator so!! Imma have to get to that. But in this case in this story, I think it plays a part to why he suddenly acts caring.
So I think he's doing this to avoid being suspect one. Jay already knows his toxic behavior, mostly mentally abusive. Bishop when around always made a sort of barrier between Mercy and Jay, from disrespecting him and purposefully making him uncomfortable to the point Jay was gonna put a boundary on the contact between him and his mom. Even though Bishop went to Jay to tell him not to do that, he did it in a way that just gave Jay more reason and anger to not unblock his mom. A common thing abusers do with their victims is isolate them. And he's a good manipulator as we saw. His is one of the time he acknowledges himself and her family cutting her off in the same sentence. I'm pretty sure he knows what he was doing.

Obviously he failed at that when her grandbabies where born and she wanted to be involved and now she's becoming more resilient. But, he still has some power over her bc he's a good manipulator.
Moving on, not only does Jay know, but Indya knows and she knows details that she can point out its not healthy and toxic and warns mercy like whatever you choose to do, itll effect your son. Then it effects my daughter. Then it effects me. You don't want shit with Indya. And then, let's remember Mercy went on that public podcast and Bishop exposed himself to ppl listening in, usuing her name, and manipulated his way in again. I remember Indya not rlly buying it.
So, that's 2 ppl, plus their family members that know bishop isn't great.
Now let's move into the whole mercy with a knife situation. I wanna say that even though mercy pulled a knife on him, with he fact he already has abusive patterns and uses sex to get control, and he admits he likes controlling her, and his previous conviction, and she's clearly mentally distressed, they'd probably see maybe he triggered it. But also, as much as I love Mercy and wish she did it, if she truly wanted to harm him, she'd do it. She instead yelled, and let him talk. This shows me she has hesitance. She not ready yet to actually do it. So, she doesn't really have intention to harm.

She'd definitely probably get in trouble for pulling the knife, it's complex, but then he takes to literally smashing her so hard against the wall after taking her down to drop the weapon and de-escalating the situation. He then threatens to murder her. He clearly has intentions to harm if he is threatening to murder and physically harm to the point she's losing conciousness. And also, he has a habit of bringing up her grandkids. He did it here and he did it long before when she was moving out of San Myshuno apartments.

During her unconsciousness, Jay tried to text her bc they do in the end have a close bond. Jay knows his mom. First he assumes maybe she's dating. That's at 2:13 pm. Several hours pass, it's 11:19 pm. Still no response or a simple yes to him asking a question. So now he's worried. Bishop takes her phone and acts like her to make Jay worry less.

Lastly, if Bishop REALLY cared about Mercy's health, he'd drive her to the hospital. If he wanted to avoid suspiciousness, he could of left her and drove off. Act like a civilian. Instead be brings her to an unknown location, isn't letting her leave until she can stand up and not wobble (that's so she doesn't look disoriented) and eat up cus clearly she hasn't. Then also text her son so kess suspicion is thrown on him.
That's been MYYY theory. I think he's avoiding suspicion cus he doesn't want get charged again. He has a pattern of behavior that calls for concern. U stayed before he could of been surprised she was almost gonna get him with the knife. If she's able to pull a knife, who's to say if he left her there, she finally spills to Jay or someone what's happening? Now he's in trouble.
So, take her to a random location, hidden away, seemingly underground, and don't let her leave till she looks normal.
Now I pray to God my phone didn't autocorrect some random crap and make me sound crazy 🙏🏼

Seeing a long-winded ranty post about "over-sexualization driving people away" in the Dislyte subreddit is certainly a take
My dude has never seen a fandom before, I guess, because this isn't unique to Dislyte.
I mean, I get it. Sometimes the in-game chat gets pretty over the top, even for me, and I consider myself a very sex-positive person. After the fifteenth "FreddysSpunkSock" type of screen name and aggressively horny comments about wanting to do whatever to Javid, it can feel like a bit much.
But making a whole post calling out the entire player base is just a weird thing to do. Like, I'm not completely unsympathetic to this person, but it just comes off so creepy to do this, like they're big mad they can't control how other people engage in the fandom and instead of dealing with their personal feelings in a personal way, they decided to make it everyone's problem.
I wish more people would recognize that we have the power to curate our social media experiences, even in gacha games with open chats. There's a block button in Dislyte. Use it if people are doing things you don't like.
I don't get why so many people are afraid to use the block button. It's there to be used. It's easy to use it because it's meant to be used for any reason at any time. You don't even need a reason. You can just block someone just because, and that's absolutely valid. There are no rules to how and when and why you should block someone. And there's nothing to be gained from keeping someone or something unblocked if it consistently makes you unhappy. Social interaction online is mostly what we make of it.
And then the same people will talk about how it sucks because they can't get help in the in-game chat because it's so flooded with horny comments. Okay? There are like five thousand other resources you can access that don't have the horniness. The official Discord is extremely on-topic. The subreddit you posted in is a great place to get help. There's the fandom wiki, other websites, I'm sure there's even other Discords and communities specific to Dislyte gameplay if you want something smaller.
But, like, it's your responsibility to cut out things you don't want to see, not others' to stop showing you things you don't want to see. You can't control them, and jumping their shit because you're upset and "I recognize lots of people don't like Ethan smut" (Source: trust me, bro) is just weird. You're allowed to not like the situation, but just fucking block the people or remove yourself from it, my gods. Your experiences and your perspectives are not a universal and it's honestly kind of gross you're trying to force others to do something because it makes you uncomfortable when you could take responsibility for yourself and your own experience and remove it from your life with a simple tap.

i hate ff7 rebirth
I finished FF7: Rebirth finally. After loving Remake, I was super excited about this one, but it was about when I hit Cosmo Canyon I started to sputter out. By the end, I just put the game on easy and rushed the ending. I usually try my best not to be a hater in general, but I need to wordvomit all this out. Below are in order-ish the big reasons I feel sour about this whole thing.
It takes away from Rebirth - So, something my partner mentioned while waiting for Rebirth; it felt like one of the themes of this game could be fate v free will. Well, free will lost this one. Everything is closer to the original story than it did the end of Remake and there's nothing to show for it. What was the point of fighting the giant whispers at the end of Rebirth? And Biggs and Wedge were spared from death... one to die OFFSCREEN in a fucking SIDEQUEST? and the other just shot in the back for no payoff. "What's my place in this world?" well it's to fucking die and then the person you were talking to to make funnie quips as he runs away from your murderers.
Zack - This goes along with the first part, but I don't see any point in him being in this game, other than fan wankery. The opening scene and the fight with him and Cloud vs Sephi were super cool! The only thing that it does for me narratively is add Kingdom Hearts-level confusing bullshiterry to the story for no other reason than to be confusing bullshit.
Cloud sucks - Man, fuck Cloud from right after the flashback until the ending. I know he's got shit going on but... in the OG, it felt like Sephiroth just had a small, subtle influence on cloud during most of the game (except right before Aerith dies). Here, it's about as subtle as a gunshot. He just sucks and isn't fun to watch. It's NUTS how the rest of the party just....... sits on the sideline and watches him murder people, almost murder party members and almost every black cloak he comes across and act like a general prick through large chunks of the game. Again, there was a dark brooding in the original they replaced with way to over-the-top edginess here for... nothing but negative effect imo.
What the fuck is up with Sephiroth - He's pretty much a fucking god already! I think they felt like since this is a multipart release, they needed to have him more physically there for pacing and motivation reasons but... He already feels like a god. We have seen him go one-winged angel, saw his cocoon pre-god form already (WITHOUT BIRTH OF A GOD PLAYING, why), he seems like he can do whatever he wants. I get that Cloud physically handing over the black materia to his true self is a willpower win, when it happens, but... what the fuck can he not do already? Ghost army, merge worlds, kill people in other timelines, OVERRIDE TIME ITSELF? And each time you kick his ass, nothing happens. He just discards that husk and goes away. Nothing like ending two games in a row in a zero stakes fight.
Bad gameplay - I've got a few complaints here, some were also in Rebirth but show off more here. First off, playing as anybody but Cloud, Tifa or Yuffie sucks. Cait Sith is miserable in every way, Barret can't dodge worth shit, Aerith's attack is super miserable, Red XIII mechanics aren't fun. Second, this trend that a lot of modern games have: 5% bonus here, +10 stat there... the weapon skills are just mostly boring and not fun. I miss rebirth's system, it felt like it had more going on. Thirdly on this topic; some of the fights just sucked. Like, unblockable attack that is hard to dodge, and when you do get hit, the enemy gets like 10 hits on you while you are completely stunlocked. I don't feel like Remake had as many fights like this in the game. Finally, on this topic, getting interrupted also felt like a huge problem, especially with healing. Losing the ATB, MP and not getting a heal due to getting hit with a regular enemy attack is bad design.
Bad Ending - I'm okay with bummer endings, but jeez. The confusing bullshit just undercut any emotions that I would've had.
Painful side stuff - A large chunk of the side stuff wasn't fun to play in my opinion. Chocobo gliding, racing, moghouses, queen's blood, the piano, and a large part of the protorelics just didn't do anything for me. For them to say this needed to be split into three parts and then fill the game to the brim with bland stuff like this is wild.
I don't give a fuck about Glenn - Fuck this guy and fuck Ever Crisis.
Overuse of One Winged Angel - yeah we get it, it's lost all of its impact.

The fact eddie has two different summon movesets is simply insane. The options at my disposal for unblockables and insanely complex setups. Im feasting. Ohh im a hungry little shadow demon you have to feed me complexion on a level that defines the archetype I single handedly created and simultaneously leaves every other character to try and fit the puppet niche in the dust in terms of fun and satisfying gameplay ouuuhh

A Type of Perspective

We've seen a LOT of recent big story moments on cards, and with the contemporary addition of Story Spotlights in Magic compared to the early days, it's a little easier to glean what the big beats are, what the relevant focus is. Each set is, of course, multifaceted, and additionally, the gameplay does come first. Regardless of the specific story moment, they need to build a set that plays well, so not every impactful beat is on an impactful card.
And that's okay! That's the nature of the world. Still, sometimes it would be interesting to see what happens on the other side, another angle, another way of seeing the world. Magic uses its card types to show one angle, but there are other ways...

Choose a card important to the Magic storyline, then completely redesign it using a different card type.
This is a "What if?" kind of contest. Here's what I mean:
Planar Incision here shows Jin-Gitaxias doing his little tinkering; what if it was, say, an aura that affected modified creatures to make them unblockable? Or what if it was a kind of artifact found in the lab instead?
Exquisite Blood depicts one moment of human desperation upon Avacyn's return. What about the human on which the vampire feeds? Could you show that as a human creature, maybe even a common one, delving into the darkness?
What if Power Matrix went back in time? What if this depicted the act of restoration/evolution instead, Karn's epiphany, the moment before the matrix goes online?
Here are some general outlines:
You MUST change the card type, and you MUST change the card's mechanical qualities, as much as reasonably possible, due to that different card type.
You can keep the name, art, and even flavor text if you want!
You can tell the story from an alternate perspective—protagonists' v. antagonists' perspective is probably going to be the most popular.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DESIGN FOR THE SET FROM WHICH YOUR CARD ORIGINALLY COMES. This is super important. You're designing for contemporary sensibilities and for a premier set (i.e. standard-legal).
And, well—if you're uncertain if something fits the criteria, ASK! Seriously, please ask away! This contest is easy in concept (same story moment, new card type) but there are indeed a lot of bullet points up there, so. We're here to help!

X~kai - The 4th X hunter. His abilities in X2 and his game progression.
In battle, χ -kai- showcases a variety of moves and attacks to challenge the player. Here is a breakdown of his abilities and strategies to deal with them:
Buster Shot: χ -kai- fires three small purple buster shots followed by a larger charged shot. The player should be prepared to dodge and time their movements to avoid getting hit.
Armor Data Steal: χ -kai- will attempt to dash towards the player to grab them and steal their armor data. If successful, he gains access to different armor skills and receives an attack and defense buff. The player can avoid this by air dashing over him.
Headbutt: After the first grab, χ -kai- can use the First Armor's "Headbutt" attack. The player should be cautious when χ -kai- is close and airborne as he may attempt to hit them with this move.
Giga Crush: After the second grab, χ -kai- gains access to the Second Armor's "Giga Crush" attack. It's best to avoid this attack by fleeing, as χ -kai- becomes invulnerable during the Giga Crush animation.
Cross Charge Shot: After the third grab, χ -kai- can utilize the Third Armor's "Cross Charge Shot" attack. When χ -kai- is far away, the player can wall jump to evade the shots effectively. Dash: χ -kai- can perform a dash attack along the ground, dealing contact damage. The player should be careful and avoid getting hit by maintaining a safe distance or using defensive maneuvers.
Plasma Charge Shot: When χ -kai-'s health is reduced to half, he activates the Ultimate Armor's Armor Data. He gains access to the "Plasma Charge Shot," firing a large purple charged shot that leaves behind a damaging Plasma Ball upon contact. The player needs to be agile and dodge the shot to avoid taking damage. Nova Strike: As part of his
Ultimate Armor abilities, χ -kai- performs the "Nova Strike," a powerful flying tackle surrounded by red energy. The player should anticipate this attack and be prepared to dodge or use defensive measures to mitigate its impact.
