One of the most popular questions I received when I was getting questions for my Q&A videos regarded my musical influences. I have a lot of pretty unexpected ones for the way my music ended up sounding, so I thought I'd share some via Tumblr.

I'm going to start posting some heavy musical influences of mine a couple of times a week and include a song by that artist that I would listen to repetitively/obsessively. 

The first one is Cursive. When I got my hands on The Ugly Organ in junior high, I was blown away. This was a huge musical awakening for me and was around the time when I started noticing and appreciating lyrics more than I ever cared to before. I remember just sitting in my bedroom listening to Art is Hard with my jaw dropped, amazed at how clever someone could arrange and make words come to life in a song.

Tim Kasher's writing and delivery still baffles me a bit.  Sometimes I'll hear a song by an artist and think, "Ugh that was way too many words for that line". Like an artist is just trying to stuff in as many as possible to get their point across. Honestly, I hate that. I think it sounds awful. Cursive lyrics always seemed to be placed perfectly along with each note. The Recluse was the first song I heard and still one of my favorites. It has such a great, haunting vibe.
