Auto detailing services have become more than a luxury. Many vehicle owners who wish to protect the value of their vehicles have realized the importance of detailing them. Also, vehicle detailing is much more than getting mild soaps, filling a bucket with water, and splashing things on. Detailing and Kapolei car wash are different things. Street Shine Hawaii, a top provider of Kapolei car detailing services notes that detailing is a much more comprehensive process that goes over the tiny details. With detailing, the tiny parts of the vehicle are paid attention to, dirt, grime, and rust are removed, and other issues that affect the vehicle’s appearance and appeal are handled.
Vehicle owners who realized the importance of car detailing have a better chance of maintaining their cars. If you are wondering when the right time to detail your vehicle is, then you have to be familiar with important factors like the ideal time of day to detail, detailing ahead of winter, the ideal temperature for car detailing, and whether to detail your car before selling or after purchase.
Ideal Time Of The Day To Detail Your Car
Consider vehicle detailing to be similar to lawn care and lawn mowing. You won’t be mowing your lawn when the sun is overhead and scorching the earth. The same principle should be applied to vehicle detailing. Make sure that your vehicle is detailed during the cool hours of the day which can either be early in the morning or late in the evening.
Detailing Before Winter
Winter brings some of the harshest weather conditions to life. Your vehicle deserves to be protected throughout this period. This is why it is recommended that you detail your vehicle before winter. A Kapolei ceramic car coating may be installed as part of the vehicle detailing process to reduce the effect of the harsh winter conditions on your vehicle. With proper detailing, you’ll be able to get rid of the dirt, grime, and dust trapped in small areas of the car. You will also get an additional protective coating that will seal dirt and salt out of those small areas.
Car Temperature For Detailing
When planning to detail your car, the ambient temperature is just as important as the car temperature. A car that is too hot is not a good candidate for auto detailing. However, except the car has frozen over, there is nothing like the car being too cold. For effective detailing, make sure that the car has been parked and has been at rest for some hours. This allows all parts of the vehicle to have cooled down thus making the intended detail possible.
Before Selling Or After Buying Your Car
Kapolei deep car cleaning and vehicle detailing are recommended both when you are planning on selling your car and after you have purchased a new vehicle. Detailing your car before sale helps to increase its market value thus giving you a better chance to sell it fast. On the other hand, detailing after a new purchase helps to seal the beauty in and keep your vehicle clean and sparkling. When it comes to detailing, all kinds of vehicles can enjoy the advantages associated. Get started by visiting Street Shine Hawaii for a comprehensive car detailing and cleaning experience.

..Miami?
Here i am again,  it has been a long time since when i wrote the last time,  i know i’m not fulfilling my travel blogger duties but these last couple months have been chaotic and intense.  Anyway, here i am again, without a good timing but still here! I left you guys in Honolulu, Hawaii..  but i’ve been traveling around since almost 2 months, i’ve seen Canada and Florida..  right now i’m settled in Miami, Florida..about leaving it though..  a lot of things have changed and i surely can say that Florida is not my place, really beautiful to visit once in your life, but nothing extremely interesting to do.  Beside parties and beaches everything is flat, no mountains or just hills to go hiking or just go in a place which is different than beach, sand and ocean.  This is basically the first State in the East coast i’m living in, i’ve found a lot of difference between people and lifestyles.  Miami is more a Latin city than an American city, sometime i have the feeling i’m in Spain or Latin America, everybody speaks Spanish and most of them don’t even know a word of English, i’m talking about Shops, supermarket, restaurants and etc.  The majority of the population is From Caribbean islands or South America, and a lot of Italian person are living here as well.  They are friendly as the West coast people, don’t take me wrong, but much colder than them.  I see Miami like the LA of the East coast, brought at the exaggeration. Talking about South Beach, where Ocean Drive is, well, everything is focused on the physical appearance, in-shape dudes everywhere wearing a tank top, and muscular girls every corner showing their big boobs with an invisible beach robe, tight shorts half ass, fake eyelashes and more and more, walking back and forth along the street where a lot of Bars playing latin songs are.  Next the beach is located an open air Gym where most of those dudes use to work out and show their muscles.  Luxurious cars revving at the traffic lights to make you hear the sound, drawing your attention.. Waitress dressed up with fancy dresses at 2:00pm in the afternoon dancing at the entrance inviting you to go inside and have a drink, maybe for the happy hour.  Yes, this is how Ocean Drive and South Beach look like.  Let’s say that is interesting and fun to see once, but would you live in a place like that?
As soon as you get out Miami Beach going to Miami Downtown something change, that looks more like a normal city, but still people are the same.  Wynwood, for example, was a poor neighborhood in the past where now they are building a lot of beautiful buildings and making art exhibitions to get more tourism, it is the Graffiti neighborhood, i’ve seen the most wonderful graffiti walls over there.. some of them are marvelous.  My teacher told me ‘’ Wynwood is the place where rich people are trying to appear poor’’.  If you guys want to have party then you must go in Miami,  plenty of clubs, for girls everything is free, for guys? Poor guys, you guys have to pay also for us ;) Lol  It's almost an embarrassment of riches. Miami is a city that has two different side of the coin, during the day it looks safe, during the night it is able to change completely, be careful and be always with someone else next to you. Even if you are walking around Miami Beach. what else can i say?  Are you a shopper? Do you like to spend money in new fancy and trendy clothes? Do you like being fashionable and always keeping up with the times?  Again, this is the right place!! i’m not like this, i like treated myself sometime but being fashionable is not my goal usually.. well, with that said, here i am! Not because i am, indeed, because they bring you doing this, they daring you, they make you buy!  A lot of promotions, sales, discounts..  beautiful storefronts, warm sellers and when you pass through the shop it seems like you are going in a club, joyful music invite you in.  More or less this is how Miami looks like..  But, don’t forget, Miami is just one part of Florida.  Next time i’ll give you some ideas about the centre of Florida. Would you guys like to have a kind of itinerary for your future trips over here?

Commercial Real Estate, A Career - How Do You Get Into It?
1. What is it and how can you get in to it?
I attended the Society of Industrial Realtors Annual spring conference in Maui several years ago. To make sure we did a lot of sightseeing, my wife had joined me. My wife and I attended the cocktail party sponsored by Colliers International, an international 241 office firm.
After a few minutes of introductions, a man came from the golf course to sit down at our table. Andrew Friedlander introduced himself and we talked about his home in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and his new home here in Honolulu. Andrew explained that he sedona houses for sale came to Hawaii on R&R from his Army tours in Vietnam. He was about to finish his last duty tour. He rented an apartment and waited tables. He washed cars. To have extra money. He explained that he had paid his rent to an older gentleman who visited his apartment once a month. The man finally asked him if that was his business. Andrew stated that he had never considered property management as a business. However, the more Andrew spoke with the man, the more he realized the diversity of commercial real estate, especially in Hawaii. Andrew was shown the basics by the rental agent and he decided to not return to Brooklyn.
Tumblr media
Andrew, forty years later is the manager of six Colliers International Hawaii offices with more than 40 salespeople and brokers. Andrew's team handles all aspects of industrial and commercial real estate, including traditional brokerage transactions and selling and leasing commercial real property through the islands.
While we were there, a concierge told us that it was a wonderful place. Now, where would you think about moving to?
A friend and young Army captain called me from Hawaii over the past year. After his last duty tour, he and his wife were enjoying some R&R and called me to get my advice about commercial real estate companies. After checking with Andrew about his availability, I gave Andrew my number. Andrew took my friend out to lunch and introduced him the Colliers business in the islands. My friend and his wife later decided to move to Florida to be near their parents. He was eager to be interviewed by Colliers in Ft. Lauderdale. Although he found a better match for a concentration of office brokerage with another company, I believe it is clear that there are opportunities with major firms for someone with an interest in the field, who can show that they are self-motivated and have positive manners (manners, speech patterns, business attire, etc.). One night, a long-time friend of mine told me that the desk clerk was the representative for the hotel company to its customers. He also knew the CEO. The clerk's rudeness towards us is not indicative of what the CEO wants for their company. If he wants to be more than a late-night clerk, he will have to learn this lesson.
This is because Colliers, or any other competitor, must ensure that every salesperson or broker who meets a potential client represents the company's image. It is a huge investment to create that image for the business community. Every person must be able to reflect that effort, even all staff. A potential customer may choose to hire someone who is more professional than them. Wal-Mart's customer relations training is very strong. It would seem that every major restaurant chain has a comprehensive program for staff training. It might be worth observing how staff handle customers who are being unreasonable.
2. Entry
Andrew's story is an example of what commercial real estate can offer. In 1971, a senior business mentor and friend of mine said to me that commercial realty offered an opportunity to start a business, without the need for capital. There was no limit to the number of transactions that could possibly be made. This was discussed in relation to me returning to law school. He thought it was almost an "sky is limit" approach but it had some sense. I had prepared a few financial reports about potential deals that were offered to me. At my mentor's direction, I also gave that year's $300k commission check, to a broker he had used to purchase a property he had settled on the previous year. The second half of the commission was also handed to the broker by me the next year. Remember that the 1972 commission amount at the beginning of that recession was significant money for any transaction.
Each state has its own licensing regulations. Florida requires that a person take a sales licensing class, pass it, and then work for at least two years in a licensed real-estate broker's office before they can take the state broker's exam. Many colleges and private companies offer sales courses, with evening classes being the most popular. The course costs are minimal. It is easy to learn the basics of reading, writing, and math. Commercial real estate firms might offer the course depending on your education qualifications. For salespeople, smaller, more generalized brokerage firms might also offer the course.
A recognized culture or business reputation is usually established for any real estate company in any community. This can be either local, regional, or national. It is important to research which company suits your needs. You can find out a company's history, areas of expertise, staff, and successes via the internet. Recognize that large metropolitan commercial firms will often outsource client requirements in outlying areas to smaller commercial firms in the area, rather than asking one of their main offices to travel. If you live in a rural area between major metropolitan areas, it is important to find out which real estate companies have these relationships.
You will only be able to succeed in commercial realty, especially if you don't have capital. In the early 1970's, I had the option of finishing law school again. The thing I discovered was that I enjoyed being "outside" of an office, and I also liked being "on the streets." Ft. Lauderdale was home to many of my attorney friends. They spent hours in their offices writing briefs and drafting documents, which is what the profession demands. My decision was to work as hard on commercial real estate as I would for any other law practice. It worked if it was successful, but if not, I would return to school.
Given that Florida's early 1970's recession caused almost equal economic damage to all occupations, many lawyers had low billing practices and clients whose business was in trouble. Many real estate brokers I met were facing difficult times due to the fact that banks weren't lending money for deals. Florida had a 14% usury limit at the time. The deposits were low and California's interest rates rose to 14%. That is where the money went.
Weekdays were spent knocking on doors of businesses along the West Palm to Miami corridor. Weekends were spent painting houses or sailing a motorboat owned by a friend. On weekday evenings, after dinner, I would be at the office reviewing information about property, ownerships, tax data and other pertinent details. I was available to drive or make phone calls the next day. It was possible to make a living in the commercial realty field. After I returned to Philadelphia, I discovered that many commercial real estate companies were open to hiring salespeople as waiters, bartenders, or other temporary jobs until they have enough experience to close deals. This has been influenced by the greater financial strength of larger firms, which can either offer a salary base or allow for new salespeople.
Today, gender isn't as important in commercial real estate today as it was in 1970. In those days, women could not compete with men in selling venues. There are now many women who have joined real estate companies such as SIOR and CCIM. The number of women who have joined commercial real estate organizations like SIOR, CCIM, etc. has increased significantly over the last 15 years (which I will talk about later). Commercial real estate courses today offer a great way to acquire knowledge once taught "in-house" by senior brokers responsible for the progress of new salespeople.
The importance of having minimum capital in commercial real estate has not changed. Gender isn't an issue. Many women have succeeded in office or industrial real estate. You can find out more at www.youtube.com You can choose your work hours, your specialty(s), your market(s), and who you would like to approach to join your firm. Commercial real estate is a standard business week that does not include Sunday or late Saturday hours. These are just a few of the many positive aspects of commercial real estate. Your competition is fierce, your competitors are proud of your work ethic, and most importantly, their reputations for each individual.
Both larger brokerage firms and smaller commercial companies should be investigated. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
A). A base salary may be offered by larger firms. Although they may prefer to have prior business experience, this does not necessarily mean that they will be willing to offer a draw against commissions. A new salesperson would typically be assigned to a senior or multiple brokers to handle cold calling, marketing materials, and reports on any client's property. They also might have to deal with property inspections by their prospects by other brokers.
Here are some points about larger firms:
The future ownership potential of the company could be limited or nonexistent.
You may not have control over the market, territory, or discipline in which you work. You may be hired to work in retail. However, this could change if the department needs personnel support. If they have multiple offices, you may find they prefer to rotate through the different departments and possibly each regional office.
It depends on whether the company is privately owned or public. You may be able to sell or merge the company without your involvement. No position in a larger company has a "safety net". It is possible to make quick cuts if a client loses its primary, significant client to a competitor.
Senior brokers who have been successful sometimes leave the firm to open a new firm. If you work in the same department as the rainmakers, clients will follow them. This could impact your income potential.
The volume of deals can be as important as the deal size. A bank, insurance company, pension fund or other institutional owner may be interested in a deal. If an institutional owner (bank, insurance company, pension fund, etc.) has a presence on a urban market they might be able to award a sale or leasing assignment to a larger firm. This can make the assignment a "year-maker" if it is completed. Most often, the year-end bonus money goes to salespeople who participated in the marketing effort.
Senior brokers need to have high-level corporate contacts. This could be through a country club, business association, educational institutions, commercial lenders or people referred from cities with corporate headquarters. You might consider looking at other firms whose top managers are more involved if the firm owners and top brokers don't have the contacts or relationships to develop them. Instead of being left with crumbs from other firms that have a strong community (business and not-business), you want the work to flow down from the top.
B). A broker/owner will usually manage the operations of smaller firms, with or without brokers partners. They will often have a residential and separate commercial divisions in which some brokers might work in commercial and residential properties.
Here are some points to consider when looking at smaller firms:
Future ownership shares could be offered, depending on deal volume and commitment to firm. The opportunity might be more attractive for those who are near retirement, such as the founder broker.
Commission percentages can be more generous if a certain amount of deals are made to cover the cost for your desk, phone, and secretarial services.

Baseball Teams And Fans Will Miss Winter Meetings, Latest Victim Of Covid-19 Pandemic

Baseball Teams And Fans Will Miss Winter Meetings, Latest Victim Of Covid-19 Pandemic

Like the All-Star Game, Hall of Fame Inductions, and two-thirds of the regular season, the Baseball Winter Meetings have been cancelled by the coronavirus pandemic.
Originally scheduled to open Sunday and fill every room of the Omni Dallas Hotel, the four-day event is invariably the highlight of the social calendar for owners, executives, managers, scouts, player agents, journalists, and job-seekers – not to mention team physicians, traveling secretaries, public relations directors, plus exhibitors of new products who show their wares at an enormous trade show limited to baseball professionals.
Until this year, when Major League Baseball absorbed Minor League Baseball and disbanded 40 of its teams, the entire event was created, coordinated, and hosted by the National Association of Professional Baseball Clubs, the corporate name for the minor leagues.
Wild and wooly events, including huge free-agent signings and multi-team trades, often happened during the winter meetings – especially during the heydays of such ostentatious and outspoken executives as Bill Veeck, Ted Turner, Whitey Herzog, and George Steinbrenner.
Veeck was in his second stint as owner of the Chicago White Sox in 1975 when he ordered GM Roland Hemond to set up shop in the lobby of the Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, FL.

Hemond’s desk consisted of a telephone and a sign that said “Open for Business.” Then Veeck proceeded to make dozens of calls to Hemond’s phone so that the White Sox GM would look busy to rival general managers who walked by.
During the Hawaii Winter Meetings two years later, Turner orchestrated a four-team trade involving the Braves, Pirates, Mets, and Rangers – and announced it at 3 a.m. in Honolulu so that it would break in time for the morning sports news on the East Coast.
In 1980, Herzog came to the Dallas Winter Meetings in the dual role of manager and general manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. After completing a trade with the Cubs that he said required 74 phone calls, the future Hall of Famer said, “The general manager is doing a great job,” said Herzog. “Now if the manager doesn’t screw up, we’re in great shape.” Days later, he made an 11-man swap with the Padres, helping San Diego GM Jack McKeon earn the nickname “Trader Jack.”
Steinbrenner seldom sent his manager to the meetings but invariably overshadowed his GM of the moment, usually Gene Michael or Clyde King, by making his own deals, often courting and signing the most significant free agents on the market.
These days, player agent Scott Boras usually hogs center stage, often holding impromptu press conferences not far from the live microphones of MLB Network, ESPN, Sirius XM Satellite Radio SIRI , SNY, and a myriad of others.
Last winter, then-Forbes colleague Barry Bloom and I were dining together at Fleming’s, a San Diego steakhouse, when Boras walked in with a dozen well-heeled clients, passed around bottles of expensive wine, and started celebrating the signing of Gerrit Cole, whose nine-year, $324 million contract was the largest and longest anyone received during the four-day gabfest.

Fellow pitcher Stephen Strasburg and slugging third baseman Anthony Rendon also received enormous deals announced at the 2019 winter meetings. Both got seven-year deals for $245 million.
Hotel bars are invariably the gathering place of choice for agents, sometimes accompanied by their player clients, and executives of the teams willing to sign them. Writers in search of scoops and rumors also hang around the periphery.
The late Milton Richman, long-time sports editor for the now-defunct United Press International, was a master at unearthing rumors that soon morphed into scoops. And while he was waiting, he would sometimes roll up his shirt, show off his muscular flat stomach, and race up and down the closest corridor at top speed. Never mind that he was well into his 60s before he gave up the practice.
The format of the winter meetings has changed only a little over the years. There’s still an awards banquet, job fair, new products trade show, traveling secretaries trade show, workshops, seminars, and a manager’s luncheon for beat writers – who are encouraged to socialize but not talk baseball.
The meetings usually start with the announcement of new Hall of Famers selected by one of four rotating Veterans Committees and end with the Rule 5 Draft, which allows teams to draft players left off the 40-man rosters of other clubs. A virtual version of the Rule 5 Draft will be held Dec. 10 but almost all other aspects of the winter meetings, including the Cooperstown selections, will have to wait til next winter.
That’s too bad, since teams that are active traders or signers dominate tabloid back-pages and allow baseball, even while inactive, to make headlines for a week when winter sports are actually playing.
Also cancelled by Covid-19 in recent weeks were the in-person annual meeting of general managers, normally held in November, and the off-season owners meetings.
Cancellation of the Baseball Winter Meetings not only creates huge financial hits for the host hotel and nearby properties used to house overflow visitors but also for local restaurants, car rental companies, ride-sharing services, airlines, airport limousines, and various vendors and businesses, including coffee shops normally packed with baseball people who are early risers.
Since pandemic-related questions still linger over length of schedule, payment of players, and retention of rules changes instigated as 2020 experiments, the winter meetings would have been a lively hotbed of baseball news even without the usual deluge of trades and signings.
An annual event since 1901, the winter meetings – including the trade show – are closed to the general public. But the vendors who buy exhibit space realize their investment from high-volume sales of hats, bats, equipment, memorabilia, publications, and services to professional teams in both the majors and minors.
The 2021 winter meetings, pandemic permitting, are scheduled for Nashville.

Business oriented Real Estate, A Career - How Do You Get Into It?
Tumblr media
1 . WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO YOU GET INTO IT? Several years ago, I was marriage ceremony a Society of Industrial Realtors Annual Spring Office meeting in Maui. My wife had accompanied me on the getaway so that we could also do a lot of sightseeing. Colliers Foreign, a 241 office worldwide firm, sponsored its own enterprise cocktail party the night before the Conference officially began in addition to my wife and I attended the party. A short while into introductions, a fabulous fellow came in from the golf course and he kommet down at our table. Andrew Friedlander introduced by his own an we discussed our home in Philadelphia, his particular original home in Brooklyn and his new place in Honolulu. As to how he ended up in The hawaiian islands, Andrew told us that on R&R during his / her tours in the Army in Vietnam, he decided to make a break in Hawaii after he was finished his or her last duty tour. He rented an apartment, waited rooms, washed cars, etc . to have some extra cash. He believed that he paid his apartment rent to an older fella who came around once a month and he finally quizzed the man whether that was his business. Andrew said that she never thought about property management as a business, but the additional he spoke to the man the more that he realized ways diverse a business commercial real estate could be, particularly in Hawaiian. The rental agent began to show Andrew the basics belonging to the business and Andrew decided not to return to Brooklyn. Visit here : whistler grand Forty decades later, Andrew is the manager of approximately six Colliers World-wide offices in Hawaii with over 40 brokers along with salespeople as his responsibility. Aside from selling and leasing commercial real estate and traditional brokerage transactions through the of the islands, Andrew's team is involved in all of the other aspects of advertisement and industrial real estate. As one concierge person told my wife and I while we were touring there, "Yes, it is a amazing place, now where would you ever think of moving towards once you are here. " In the past year, a young Army Chief and friend called me from Hawaii. He and even his wife were taking in some R&R after the last duty tour and he called to consult me for some advice on commercial real estate firms. I gifted him Andrews phone number after I checked with Andrew in his availability. Andrew treated my friend to lunch not to mention introduced him to Colliers' business in the islands. Because turned out, my friend and his wife decided later in order to relocate to Florida to be closer to their parents. The Colliers office in Ft. Lauderdale was anxious to make sure you interview him and did so. He found an improved fit for a concentration in office brokerage with a second firm, but I think that it is clear that opportunities achieve exist with major firms for someone who has an interest, this type of demonstrate that they are self motivated and whose comportment (manners, speech, personal grooming, business attire) are all positive. Ages friend told me one night after we and the wives checked in, very late, at a hotel had by a well known hotel group, "That desk clerk will be person representing this hotel company to its buyers and I know the CEO. That clerk's slight disrespect toward us does not at all represent what their CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER wants his company to be known for in their business enterprise. He will need to learn that if he is going to be more than the late night clerk. " I mention this because a company for instance Colliers or any of its competitors must ensure that a proctor or broker first meeting a potential customer properly presents the company's image. So much money is spent defining which usually image to the business community that each person, including most of staff, must reflect that effort. Otherwise, a potential customer will choose to hire a competitor whose act will be together. My understanding is that customer relation instruction at Wal-Mart is quite strong for all personnel. I would think any major restaurant chain has in place a thorough plan for staff training and it may pay to observe if if the customer is not always right at an place how the staff person handles a customer who is being a piece particular. 2 . Entry I use Andrew's story as an example from the opportunity that commercial real estate offers. A senior enterprise mentor and good friend of mine told me in South carolina in 1971, just at the beginning of that recession, that professional real estate offered an opportunity to enter a business without having my own cash to invest other than my time and energy, and, with no limit about the size of transactions that could be put together. We discussed the in relation to my going back to law school. His judgment was that it was almost a "sky is the limit" approach, but with some basic sense to it. I did done a few financial reports on potential deals wanted to him. I also handed over that year, at my mentor's instruction, a $300k commission check to a broker what person he had employed to buy a property that he had settled within the year prior to that. The next year, at the same time, I paid the same check to that broker as the second half of which will commission to that broker. Please realize that in 1972 the fact that commission amount in the onset of that recession was a large amount of money for any transaction. Each state has its own limitations for licensure. Florida required a person to take a revenues licensing course, pass that, then work in a gain real estate broker's office for a minimum of two years before staying eligible to take a state broker's exam. The sales tutorial is offered by numerous private firms and colleges, nighttime courses in particular. The cost of the course is minimal. The fundamental skills for reading, writing and math portions usually are not difficult. Depending upon your educational qualifications, commercial real estate corporations may often offer to provide the course. Smaller, further generalized, brokerage firms may also do the same in order to develop a salesperson. There typically is a recognized "culture" as well as business reputation known for a real estate firm in any group, The community can be local, regional or national. It sends to do your homework as to which firm appears to satisfy your style. The internet is definitely one of the most productive sources for seeking out for a firm's history, its areas of expertise, personnel, and its success. Recognize that major metropolitan commercial firms often outsource purchaser needs in an outlying area to a smaller commercial organisation in that area rather than requiring one of their main home office brokers to commit to travel time. Consequently, if you are from a rural market outside or between major metropolitan trading markets, you should investigate which real estate firms have those interactions for the larger deals. Your time for success starting during commercial real estate (particularly without capital) will be the result of everything you put into it. I had the option in the early '70's regarding returning to law school and finishing. What I recognized most was that I liked being out of an clinic and "on the street. " My attorney friends throughout Ft. Lauderdale were spending innumerable hours, as expected, in their offices to write briefs, draft documents, etc ., that that profession requires. My decision was to put in an identical hours on commercial real estate that I would have to put in for just a law practice. If it worked, then fine, or I would go back to school. Considering that the early '70's recession through Florida hit every occupation with almost equal deterioration, many attorneys had practices with slim billings and also clients whose businesses were suffering economically. Several real estate agents who I met were having very difficult times because banks were not lending money for deals. Florida received a usury cap of 14% at that time. Deposits happen to be down and when interest rates in California started to go above 14% that is where the money went. Weekdays in those numerous years, I was knocking on the doors of businesses from the West Palm to Miami corridor. Weekends, I was basically often painting a house or captaining a motor sailer owned by a friend's corporation. Weekday evenings after supper, I was at the office reviewing property information, ownerships, place a burden on data, etc . for the next day's driving or calls. I found that it was possible to earn a living while getting towards the commercial real estate field. I later found out after shifting back to Philadelphia, that several of the commercial real estate vendors did not mind their starting salespeople to moonlight simply because bartenders, waiters, or whatever until they had enough expertise to close transactions. That has changed somewhat in the higher cities due to the financial strength of the larger firms plus their ability to either offer a base salary or obtain to new salespersons. Gender in today's commercial real estate universe is not an issue as it was in the '70's. At that time, individuals only eating clubs were often the norm and adult females were not often able to match that type of selling place. The number of women who have joined commercial real estate organizations which includes SIOR, CCIM, etc . (which I will discuss later) seems to have increased dramatically over the past 15 years. The commercial properties courses offered today provide an excellent means of obtaining understanding that once was taught generally "in house" by mature brokerage personnel responsible for a new salesperson's progress. Therefore , on considering commercial real estate the aspect of having minimal growth capital has not changed. Gender is not an issue and many women who may have chosen to specialize in industrial or office real estate did very well. You can choose your hours, choose your neighborhood of specialty(s), choose your market area(s), and decide who you want to approach as a firm to join. Most business oriented real estate involes the standard business week, not including late Saturday or Sunday hours (vs. residential Sunday open houses). These are several of the positive aspects of working in commercial realty. The competition is keen, your competitors respect a good work hard work and, most importantly, they respect a strong reputation for any man or women. You should investigate both larger commercial firms and little real estate brokerage firms. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. A). Larger firms may be willing to offer a base salary or even a draw against commissions. They may prefer prior business feel, but not necessarily prior real estate brokerage experience that may clash with what their "culture" is and what their in-house training entails. Typically, a new salesperson would be assigned towards a senior broker or brokers to do cold calling, selling materials, marketing reports for any existing client's property as well as probably handle property inspections by other competing providers with their prospects. A few points on Larger Firms: Foreseeable future ownership potential for you in the company may be limited or possibly nonexistent. Control over what market, territory or style that you work in may not be your choice. If you are hired first department, such as retail, that may change if they need staff members support in another department, such as office. You may find construct y prefer a new person to rotate through each agency and possible each regional office if they have a number of offices. Depending upon whether the firm is privately held or perhaps public company it could be sold or merged without you will being involved in the discussion. There is no real "safety blanket" for just about any position in a larger firm. If a primary, large, patron is lost to a competitor, cuts may be relatively swift to absorb the lack of revenues. Senior brokers who are successful once in a while leave to join another firm or to start their own competitions firm. Clients usually follow those brokers and that could quite possibly disrupt your potential income if you are in that department and then the rain makers leave. Deal volume can be significant while can be the size of the deals. If an institutional operator (bank, insurance company, pension fund, etc . ) has a appearance in an urban market, the leasing or sale assignment that they may award to a larger firm can be a "year maker" if the assignment is completed. Usually some time end bonus money flows down to the salespersons and also require participated in the marketing effort. Senior brokers should have high level corporate contacts through either a business association, place club, educational institutions, commercial lenders, or contacts called from other cities where a corporate headquarters may be placed. If the firm owners or top brokers are not building those contacts and relationships, but are relying on typically the mid-level brokers to do that you may want to look at another firm in whose top management is better involved. You want work to filtration down from the top instead of getting the crumbs leftover as a result of competing firms who have a solid community (business and nonbusiness ) presence. B). Smaller firms usually will have an important broker/owner running the operations with or without dealer partners in the firm. Quite often they will have a residential team and a separate commercial department in which a few of the brokers will probably work in residential and commercial properties. A few details about Smaller Firms: Future ownership shares may be proposed depending upon deal volume and commitment to the firm. Should the founding broker of the firm is nearing retirement age, the way may be better provided that they are maintaining an fully busy presence in the community. Commission percentages may be much more liberal after a minimum threshold of deal volume is met to the cost of your desk, phone, secretarial, etc .. A salary and / or draw is less likely to be offered. A senior agent may be more likely to have you work directly under him regarding any property. You will be accountable directly to him and, because should be the case, learn "on the job. " If there is the residential component to the firm, those brokers specializing in who area should be a source of commercial referrals and the very same for you referring any possible single family residential with them. Smaller multi-family buildings should be on the commercial side of your business, but motels may be on either side. This would vary in an area such as Ft. Lauderdale, Hilton Travel, or New Jersey resorts where a residential owner with a union to the firm may also own retail rentals. Most local areas have a Realtors Association, Chamber of Commerce or perhaps other organization that offers discounted insurance and other benefits for you to its members. Whereas a larger firm may have a good collaborative health plan and other bulk discounted benefits to the employees, you should look at the costs for each that are offered. I have not discovered that much of a saving on either side, but any time you leave a larger firm you will need to find the alternatives that are low-priced. Your business exposure may actually be more effective working out of a smaller sized firm and being a primary contact for that firm as an alternative for a secondary contact at a larger firm. Property databases as well as Internet have provided smaller firms with much better admittance to real estate information than in the mid-'90's and before once only larger firms could afford to maintain proprietary place information for a larger market. Launching a significant marketing campaign for just a property can be expensive even with the Internet and smaller providers will have a lack of cash resources to compete for big property listings. Deal size, therefore , will be smaller and you may have to strive for volume,

Planning a trip to Hawaii is something many people dream of. With its stunning beaches, dramatic volcanic landscapes, and lush green hills, it’s one of the most beautiful places we’ve visited but also the most expensive.
While we do think the islands are worth the high price, to make the most of your stay, it’s essential to plan in advance.
These tips will help you plan the perfect trip to Hawaii.
Best Island to Visit in Hawaii
Hanalei Bay in Kauai
Choosing the best island to visit is one of the most challenging parts of planning a trip to Hawaii. They are all diverse with lots to offer, so it just depends what you are looking for.
Most visitors to Hawaii visit one of these four islands:
Oahu – The most visited and developed island is home to the large city of Honolulu and the famous and very crowded Waikiki Beach. You can surf huge waves on the North Shore and visit the museum and memorials at Pearl Harbour. You’ll find the most shopping, dining, and nightlife options here. It’s the easiest island to get around by public transport.
Maui – The second most visited island has beautiful beaches, world-class whale watching, and the Road to Hana drive where you can see waterfalls, bamboo forest, and red and black sand beaches. You can also watch the sun rise above a volcanic crater and visit wineries and lavender farms in Upcountry. There’s a wide range of resorts, dining, shopping, and activities as well as natural attractions.
Big Island – The largest island is the youngest, so it’s not as green as the other islands and has more lava landscapes. If you want to see an active volcano, this is the island to visit. The landscapes are incredibly diverse from beautiful white sand beaches to snow-capped mountains.
Kauai – Known as The Garden Isle, Kauai is the most lush and green of the islands. The jagged green cliffs of the stunning Napali Coast are the big draw, but there are also lovely beaches, waterfalls, and multi-coloured canyons. A helicopter ride over the island is spectacular, and there are plenty of hiking trails. Kauai has become popular, but it isn’t as developed as Maui or Oahu.
Kauai’s Napali Coast
If you are looking to get off-the-beaten-track, you could consider visiting one of these smaller, much less visited islands:
Molokai – Known as The Friendly Isle, on Molokai you’ll find a slow pace of life and more native Hawaiians, but less choice of accommodation and activities. It’s also home to the leper colony of Kalaupapa, which I became fascinated with after reading a couple of these Hawaii books.
Lanai – For many years Lanai was a pineapple plantation and it’s now home to a few luxury resorts. If you want to enjoy the secluded beaches without the high price tag, the ferry from Lahaina on Maui only takes an hour so you could visit on a day trip.
The character of each island also depends on which part you visit. All the islands have a rainy side where the scenery is lush and green and a dry side where you’ll usually get more sun. They are both worth visiting, which is why we decided to split our island stays between two or three locations.
We had 3.5 weeks in Hawaii and chose to divide our time between Kauai and Maui, with one night in Honolulu before our flight to Japan. We loved them both, and there’s so much to do on each island that we’re glad we didn’t try to add in an extra island.
We plan to visit the Big Island and maybe Molokai on our next trip, although we’d also happily return to Kauai and Maui.
For more details on our trip, see our Maui itinerary and the best things to do on Kauai.
Our friends Tom and Jenny have visited the Big Island many times and share their favourite things to do.

Before You Arrive in Hawaii
Do
Save up – Hawaii is expensive and you’ll enjoy it more if you aren’t worrying about every penny. We spent $267 per person per day including everything except flights from the mainland US. You could spend less by travelling in the off season, choosing non-beachfront accommodation, and skipping pricey tours. You could also spend a lot more by staying in luxury resorts and eating out for every meal.
Visit in the winter to see humpback whales – We were astounded by how many we saw in Maui in February. January to March are the best months, but you might see a few from November to May. Winter weather can be cooler and rainier, but we still had mostly sunny days and the ocean is swimmable year round.
Visit in the off season to save money – In the spring (April and May) and autumn (September to mid-November), the islands are less crowded, prices are lower, and the weather is excellent.
Book your accommodation far in advance – Especially if you are travelling in the high season, want an ocean view, or are travelling to places like Hana or Upcountry on Maui where accommodation is limited. We searched for options on Booking, Airbnb, and VRBO.
Consider a condo rather than a resort – For families, stays of a week or more, and for those on a budget, renting a condo with a kitchen is a great way to save money. There are many to choose from and some have resort facilities like pools and beachfront locations. We stayed in condos for most of our stay and Kiahuna Plantation on Poipu Beach in Kauai was one of our favourites.
Kiahuna Beach
Search on Kiwi for the best flight deals – The cheapest rates will be from Los Angeles or other West Coast cities. Southwest now flies to Hawaii at low rates. You can also get affordable flights from Asia (especially Japan) to Honolulu.
Fly in and out of different islands – Maximise your time on the islands by flying into one island (such as Kauai) and out of another (such as Maui). I was surprised by how many affordable direct flights there are from the US mainland to places other than Honolulu.
Rent a car – It’s the best (and often only) way to get around. At busy times they can run out, so book far in advance. We used Rental Cars to find the best deal and just booked the cheapest economy car.
Consider splitting your time between two or three locations on each island – If you want to do a lot of exploring, this will help avoid long drives to attractions. We did this on Kauai and Maui and it worked out well.
Red Sand Beach in Hana
Book Haleakala sunrise in advance – If you want to see Maui’s most popular sunrise, you must book up to 60 days in advance. If you miss out, try again two days before when more tickets are released.
Bring reusable shopping bags – Plastic bags are banned on the islands.
Pack a sweater – While most of the time you’ll only need summer clothing and beachwear, it can get chilly on morning boat trips or if you go to higher elevations (like Upcountry in Maui or Waimea Canyon on Kauai) especially in the winter. Sunrise at Haleakala is literally freezing and you’ll appreciate as many layers as possible.
Bring spices – If you are self-catering, you’ll save money by bringing a small amount of spices with you. We bought some at the bulk-buy section of a supermarket on the mainland.
Pack hiking sandals – We wore these all the time and they were perfect for beaches and hiking. Many beaches have rough access trails so you’ll appreciate something more than flip-flops. Simon wore the Teva Terra Fi Lite sandals and I have the Merrell Terran Lattice sandals.
Learn a few Hawaii words – Even if it’s just Aloha (hello and goodbye but also love and compassion) and Mahalo (thank you). I picked up vocabulary by reading the astounding novel Shark Dialogues by Kiana Davenport (which I highly recommend every visitor reads).
Don’t
Plan to visit more than one island per week – You’ll spend too much of your precious vacation time travelling and there’s so much to do on each island.
Forget hidden fees – The listed price for hotels and resorts is rarely what you’ll actually pay. You’ll have to add tax and often a resort fee, cleaning fee (for condos), and parking charge. Check the final total price when comparing accommodation options.
Visit during holidays – Try to avoid the busiest times of year, especially Christmas and New Year when crowds and prices soar. Thanksgiving week is another busy time. If you must visit then, book far in advance.
Stay on the beach (maybe) – If you are on a tight budget you’ll save by staying a short walk or drive from the beach. Airbnb is a good place to look for budget accommodation. That said, we splurged on beachfront accommodation and loved it.

In Hawaii
Do
Read novels set in Hawaii – Learn more about Hawaii’s fascinating culture and turbulent history by reading one of these books about Hawaii while you relax on the beach.
Schedule your most important activities early – Weather can change and cancel activities like boat trips and helicopter rides, so make sure you’ll have time to reschedule.
Waterfalls in Kauai from a helicopter
Use reef-safe sunscreen – Hawaii has banned the sale of sunscreen that uses coral-harming chemicals. You can pick some up from Longs Drugs, which we found surprisingly affordable.
Sign up to the Snorkel Report on Maui – You’ll get an email every morning with tips on the best beaches to visit that day. They also rent inexpensive snorkelling and beach gear.
Check the Hawaii Beach Safety website – To find out which beaches are safe for swimming or best for surfing. The Kauai Explorer Surf Report is also useful.
Go whale watching – It was one of our favourite experiences in Hawaii. We chose a small boat trip with Makai Adventures from Lahaina in Maui and loved it so much we went twice.
Hike – All the islands have beautiful trails from easy coastal walks to challenging multi-day treks. It’s a great free way to enjoy the beauty of the islands.
Hiking the Pipiwai Trail in Maui
Rent a Tommy Bahama beach chair and umbrella – Our condos came with these, but you can rent them on the islands inexpensively. They have backpack straps for easy carrying and make beach hopping much more comfortable.
Visit a farmer’s market – The fresh produce is usually cheaper and better quality than the supermarkets and there are lots of tasty treats and foodie souvenirs to enjoy.
Cool off with shave ice – This delicious icy treat is so much better than we expected. Add a scoop of macadamia ice-cream on the bottom for maximum tastiness.
Enjoy a Mai Tai on the beach – Touristy yes, but it’s a classic Hawaii experience and these tasty rum cocktails come in cool Tiki glasses.
Drive the Road to Hana on Maui – Most people do this in one day, but we loved spending a few nights in Hana to explore without the crowds.
Wai‘anapanapa State Park is a Maui highlight
Eat all the banana bread – Especially in the Hana area, homemade banana bread sold at farm stalls is so good.
Indulge in chocolate-covered macadamia nuts – We were addicted to the ones by Moana Loa.
Let local drivers pass you – They know the winding roads better than you and drive at a faster pace, so pull over and let them pass.
See Kauai from above – Our doors-off helicopter trip on Kauai was mind-blowing.
Don’t
Eat in restaurants for every meal – Restaurants are expensive and by self-catering in our condo we saved a huge amount of money. Even if you don’t have a kitchen, you can pick up a pre-made picnic lunch from a supermarket and enjoy it on the beach. Some of our tastiest meals were from food trucks which are far cheaper than restaurants. Hana in Maui and Hanalei in Kauai had the best selection of trucks.
Underestimate the ocean – Conditions can be dangerous and change quickly and drownings do happen. If you’re not sure it’s safe, don’t swim.
Turn your back on the ocean – Huge waves can come out of nowhere when you are swimming or even walking along the shore.
Fight a rip current –  If you get caught in a current, keep calm, float, and wave for help. Go with the current and conserve your energy.
Touch sea turtles or monk seals – You are likely to come across wildlife on the beaches, but it’s illegal to get too close or touch them.
Monk seals and humans share Poipu Beach on Kauai
Trespass – Please respect private property. While all beaches are open to the public, they don’t all have public access routes.
Litter – Don’t leave anything behind on beaches or hiking trails.
Steal any rocks or sand.
Touch or step on coral.
Leave valuables in your car – And keep any luggage hidden out of sight in the trunk.
Laugh at the hula – It’s not just a dance for tourists, but a serious part of local culture.
Refuse a lei (flower garland) – It’s a symbol of affection and Aloha so wear it with gratitude and don’t take it off in front of the person who gave it to you.
Wear shoes into someone’s house.
Rush – Don’t feel the pressure to do everything. Make sure you allow time just to relax by the pool or on the beach. Slow down and enjoy these beautiful islands.

It’s Joy Time for Bruno Mars
WE’RE JUST CAVEMEN, hitting on rocks,” says Bruno Mars. “It’s no different—you’re a caveman and you got a rock in front of you, you hit it with a stick to get everybody dancing. This is our time to forget about everything, it’s joy time. So who’s the best at hitting that rock? Who’s going to make the village dance the hardest?”
At a casual glance, you might not know that Mars is one of our superstar cavemen. Pulling up to an upscale Italian restaurant on an anonymous street in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley, alone in a relatively modest Cadillac, he parks in back by the dumpsters to slip in quietly. In contrast to the flashy outfits he wears onstage, he’s dressed in a simple collarless bomber jacket, a white Gucci logo T-shirt and camouflage pants. A small crucifix on a thin chain hangs around his neck.
But at age 31, the singer/songwriter/producer dynamo born Peter Gene Hernandez is unquestionably one of the most highly decorated figures in pop music, with 21 Grammy nominations and 21 Hot 100 hit singles. He has sold over 170 million singles and 26 million albums worldwide and notched his first five No. 1 hits faster than any male artist since Elvis Presley. His third album, 24K Magic, debuted at No. 2 in November; more than two months later, it was still parked in the top five.
On this drizzly January day, Mars is trying to take care of business before heading to Japan for promotional duties. He’s finalizing plans for the album’s second single, the breezy, drop-top banger “That’s What I Like,” and plotting out his performance for the Grammy Awards. Today, he’s mostly bouncing between meetings and calls to assemble the staging for his massive world tour—already more than 100 dates this year, starting in late March in Antwerp, Belgium, and hitting the U.S. in July.
“I want the show to be powerful, because people spent some money on a ticket,” he says. “I’ve seen some awesome shows. I’ve seen Prince and Michael Jackson ; those are nights I will remember forever. I’m not doing my job unless I leave a piece of me everywhere I go—if you do the right show, it will stay with people and they’ll tell their kids about it. I hope people can see what I was feeling when I made the records. Then I want to go beyond their expectations and fly.”
With his old-school dedication to entertaining and his grounding in classic pop and R&B songwriting, Mars stands alongside Adele as one of today’s most universally beloved musicians. “My mum loves Bruno Mars and my son loves Bruno Mars and he’s 5,” says James Corden, host of The Late Late Show—and, recently, the Grammys—in a phone call. “I love how joyful, positive, uplifting his music is. It excludes no one. Everybody is welcome.”
Mars makes no secret that being onstage comes much easier to him than being in the studio. Almost four full years passed between his quadruple-platinum Unorthodox Jukebox album and the release of 24K Magic. He works so obsessively on each song, he says, that he drew up parameters for himself in order to get the concise, nine-song project finished. “I wanted to make a movie, where each song has its own moment,” he says. “So ‘Versace on the Floor’ is the tender moment, ‘That’s What I Like’ is the fun moment, and the ballad at the end [“Too Good to Say Goodbye”] seals the deal. That’s how I kind of tricked myself into making the album.
“We were trying really hard to tap into the ’90s R&B music that we grew up with, and it’s a very fine line—it can get tribute-y, it can sound forced,” Mars adds. “But that New Jack Swing sound brought me so much joy as a kid, so we took that on and did our best to try to get that feeling, that effortless fun.”
His interest in exploring the sounds of the past has sometimes led to accusations that Mars is just a talented copycat. When 24K Magic was released, one publication offered a track-by-track analysis of which artist each song was imitating. Not surprisingly, Mars gets heated about such criticisms.
“Man, that pisses me off so much!” he says. “It’s so easy to say that, but anyone that does that kind of shit has never written a song in their life. That’s why I’m here, because of musicians before me.
“Don’t get me wrong—there is plagiarism when you just say ‘Hey, man, what are you doing? I’ve heard that already.’ And I’m not stupid, of course it sounds like [the ’90s]. We’re using these vintage instruments and there is a certain sound, but it’s not just regurgitated. You can tell that we were listening to ’90s R&B. It has that spirit. That’s what we capture, and that’s what I want.”
Every time I think about it, my whole story is just weird,” says Mars. “Even I don’t get it!” He was born and raised in Honolulu, one of six children—his Filipino-Spanish mother was a singer and dancer; his Jewish–Puerto Rican father was a percussionist. By age 4, young Bruno (the nickname came from his father, who thought the infant Peter resembled wrestler Bruno Sammartino) was performing five days a week in the family band, the Love Notes, singing Michael Jackson and Temptations covers.
According to his older brother, Eric “E-Panda” Hernandez, when Bruno was just a few years old, his parents dressed him up as Elvis for Halloween. “He was already so in tune with Elvis that he was imitating the moves, the lips, drawing a crowd,” says Hernandez. “I thought, ‘Holy cow, he’s a showstopper already!’ ” “Little Elvis” went on to perform at halftime in the 1990 Aloha Bowl and had a cameo in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas.
“If you took your kid to school with you every day, and you were studying rocket science, he’d probably be a rocket scientist,” says Mars. “So that’s just it—my dad and mom took me to work every single day, and I got to see what it’s like to entertain an audience. I got to entertain everybody who came to Hawaii—a roomful of people that didn’t speak English, from around the world—and to see what music can do, and how it can bring the world together.”
Above all, he learned the power of a great song, the fundamentals of writing music that far outlives its creator. Hernandez, who is now the drummer in Mars’s band, recalls Bruno constantly studying music videos—doo-wop, Michael Jackson, Elvis, anything he could get his hands on—in the bedroom they shared.
“I’ve been singing amazing songs since I was a kid,” Mars says. “They weren’t my songs, but they were classics. So I’ve trained my brain to know what it feels like to sing an amazing song—when you do a lot of covers, you see it; you’ll play a song and you see everybody freak out when you get to that chorus, everyone is singing. It taps into something, whether it’s nostalgia or it just makes people feel a certain way.”
His father gave him a guitar and started teaching him to play—surf music at first, classics like “Walk Don’t Run” and “Apache.” The influence ran deeper than just the music, as evidenced by the silk-shirt-and-shorts set, white shoes and gold jewelry he sports on the cover of 24K Magic. “The style stuff all comes from watching my dad—the pinkie rings, the pompadour, everything,” Mars says with a big grin. “My dad would take me to school in some big, busted-up Cadillac, and he’d be wearing a rhinestone jacket and have his hair all whipped and greased up, flashy glasses, and I was like, My dad’s not like the other dads at school! I’d try to get out of the car, zoom out. And now I’m the one driving the busted Cadillac, wearing some gaudy shit, and it’s what makes me happy.”
“Bruno is a fashion leader, with a sense of style that is truly his own,” says Tommy Hilfiger, whose clothes Mars sometimes wears onstage. “He is almost chameleonlike—for one concert, he’ll wear an animal-print shirt, then the next, he’ll be in a tuxedo, and it’s all him, he is totally in control of his presence.”
After graduating from high school, Mars moved to Los Angeles to pursue a musical career. (He now lives in the Hollywood Hills with model/actress Jessica Caban, whom he has dated since 2011.) He was signed by Motown Records in 2004 but then dropped. He kicked around town, signing a publishing deal, playing in cover bands and soaking up all he could from sympathetic, successful songwriters. He wrote songs for K’naan, Brandy and Flo Rida and, in 2009, co-founded a production team, the Smeezingtons.
His breakthrough came with the hits “Nothin’ on You” by B.o.B. and “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy, both of which featured his voice on the hooks, and then with Cee Lo’s 2010 smash politely known as “Forget You.” Just weeks before that song dropped, Mars released “Just the Way You Are,” the first single from his debut album on Atlantic Records, Doo-Wops and Hooligans. The irresistibly sweet ballad went to No. 1 and topped the adult contemporary chart for a record-breaking 20 weeks. (The next single, “Grenade,” also went to No. 1, and the ukulele-driven trifle “The Lazy Song” cracked the top five.) After a brief tour opening for Maroon 5, he played headlining dates for more than a year, as the album saw sales of more than six million units worldwide and an unbelievable 300-plus weeks on the Billboard Top 200.
On the road, though, Mars became aware of the limitations of his repertoire. “The first album was so ballad-heavy,” he says, “and when I toured I was like, ‘Man, I need to dance!’ We gotta pick this up, because we can offer more and we’re kinda stuck. And that’s where ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ and ‘Treasure’ and a lot of tunes on the second album came from, because we wanted to push the tempo.”
With an Anglo-reggae groove reminiscent of the Police (Mars and Sting sang together at the 2013 Grammy Awards), “Locked Out of Heaven” shot Unorthodox Jukebox out of the gate in 2012. The album explored disco and classic soul styles and topped charts around the world. And then, at the end of 2014, Mars was featured on producer Mark Ronson’s earth-quaking, booty-shaking, record-breaking throwback “Uptown Funk.” Certified diamond, for sales over 10 million, the song is only the eighth single in history to spend at least 14 weeks at No. 1. “Uptown Funk” won three Grammys, including record of the year, and for months it was unavoidable—on your TV, in your car or at sporting events.
Mars says the song emerged only after a long struggle and that they had almost tossed it away. “We went through some trials and tribulations,” he says. “I’m not lying when I tell you that we were fighting—I was on tour and Mark would send me something and I’d be like, ‘Are you out of your mind?’ And I’d send him something back and he’d be like, ‘No, my version is better.’ We were both fighting for the greater good of the song.
“You press play and it went, ‘This here’s that ice-cold…’ and it was like, ‘Oh, what’s about to happen?!’ But then ‘Oh, man, that’s what you got? Nah, never mind, turn it off.’ And that kept happening for months.
“Finally the solution was that we just needed to dance—to say, ‘Don’t believe me, just watch,’ and that’s it. Don’t try to write a hook. You don’t need more; that already said everything. But it took us a while to feel that, because the way we were doing it was so unorthodox, piece by piece. When we finally got together and picked up the instruments, we got to feel it. That’s when the superpower comes in.”
Even after cranking out so many hits—plus collaborations with and writing efforts for everyone from Lil Wayne to Alicia Keys, Adele to Jay Z and Kanye West—Mars has no formula or shortcuts; songwriting remains an instinctive craft.
“When you’re in the studio, you can feel the energy shift,” he says. “It’s no different from telling a good joke—you can tell when it lights up the room. Or from telling a shitty joke that makes everyone want to leave and you hear the crickets. So you’re always trying to find that magic and then capitalize on it.
“You find something—‘put your pinkie rings up to the moon’—and everyone’s excited, but now what? What does the bass sound like, or the drums? If ‘24K Magic’ is supposed to sound like I’m having the time of my life, you gotta hear me smiling on the record.”
There’s no bigger stage than the Super Bowl halftime show; Bruno Mars is one of a few performers who have played it twice. In 2014, he played during a rare northern excursion, as the 48th annual game took place in New Jersey. “Rehearsing in the cold sucked,” he says. “We got lucky on the day, it was 50 degrees, but two days before it was -9 or something.” His action-packed performance was the highest-rated halftime show ever (since surpassed by Katy Perry and Lady Gaga) and earned widespread raves, especially considering that his career hadn’t quite reached the spot’s usual mega-A-list status.
Then last year, on the heels of “Uptown Funk,” Chris Martin of Coldplay invited Mars and Beyoncé to join the group’s halftime set. “I told Chris, ‘This is your Super Bowl performance, you deserve it, go kill ’em,’ ” Mars says. “But he’s such a sweetheart and he kept saying, ‘Bruno, this is a gift I want to give to everybody.’ He talked me into it. He’s a sweet talker, that guy. And she signed up, and all of a sudden I’m in rehearsal dance-battling Beyoncé—what the hell happened?”
Mars is proud of his work ethic and dedication to every appearance, something Corden can attest to after they filmed a Carpool Karaoke segment last year (the clip has had nearly 40 million views on YouTube since airing in December). “My biggest memory of that day was that the second it ended, I got a little depressed,” says Corden. “Like the last day of vacation, where you’re on the plane home and feel sad that it’s over. It was so euphoric, I just wanted to do it again. There’s a moment at the end of ‘Uptown Funk’ where we’re just sitting there and breathing heavily, and that was real. His commitment was everything—we left it all in the car.
“I think he’s 100 percent on his way to being one of the greats,” Corden continues. “There are great showmen who get by without always having great songs and great songwriters who aren’t great showmen, but he’s both those things. He has this unquantifiable energy, where you want to watch it and be a part of it somehow.”
Hernandez notes that his brother works tirelessly, showing up for every sound check, sometimes arriving before the rest of the band. “He sees something lacking in the business, maybe something we were influenced by as kids that’s missing today, and he sticks to his vision,” says Hernandez. “He’s put that work mentality on the rest of the band, where he makes us want to be great.”
The rain has stopped and as the sun goes down over the Santa Monica Mountains, Mars heads to the restaurant’s back patio for a cigarette. He seems in no great rush to get back into the scramble of preparing for a tour and keeping the business humming. With the long process of an album finally complete, he says that although he’s open to the idea of more new music or another collaboration, he wants to be careful.
“I just don’t want to feel gross,” he says. “It’s as simple as that. I don’t want to feel gross, I don’t want to regret any decisions. Even if I turn down a sweet check because I don’t want to be on that billboard, hawking some shit to the world—I just don’t need to do that. Because you get one shot at this.
“I’m not a model. I’m not an ice skater. I’m not a chef. I’m here to do music. And I want to be able to look back and say, ‘Yeah, I did it the way I wanted to do it.’ Whether it triumphs or fails, I can live with that.”

The Benefits of a Massage Mattress For Seniors
We no longer demonstrate the physical and psychological benefits of massage, regardless of age, but more particularly in the elderly. When we get older, massage is an excellent way to regain a better quality of life. However, this practice is often minimized. If the massage in institute is no longer the prerogative of seniors, they still have the possibility of home massage performed by professionals or done by themselves using dedicated equipment. The massage mattress is just one of them.
What is the massage mattress?
Massage , massage cushion ... today there is a whole range of tools dedicated to massage therapy. One of them is the massage mattress, sometimes also called a massage mat. The massage mattress is a massage device that can be used both in institute and at home. For our seniors, this equipment is an excellent way to enjoy the benefits of professional massage at home, without having to go to a massage center.
There are several types of massage mattresses. The relaxing massage mattress is perfect for relieving pain. The heated massage mattress, on the other hand, is often used by overweight people who want to lose a few extra pounds. However, older people can also get it to enjoy a little more heat in the winter. The vibrating massage mattress usually combines vibration and heating. It mainly provides relaxing massage. This type of massage mattress provides significant relaxation from head to toe thanks to the vibrating motors installed on certain specific areas (top, middle, bottom). The motors can be operated via a remote control. The vibrating mattress is also often equipped with an infrared heat diffuser. There are also models of massage mattresses fitted with massage heads on the market. They offer different massage techniques such as shiatsu, kneading, percussion, rolling, etc.

Modernizing over time, the massage mattress can be equipped with several functions to meet all needs. Most often, this device is handy thanks to a power supply and a remote control. But, it can also have other functions such as the combination of vibration and heating functions that work thanks to motors distributed over key areas of the body. We can also find on some models of massage mattresses the speed function which allows the user to choose the rhythm that suits him. Finally, there is also the airbag function and the possibility of choosing between several thicknesses.
The massage mattress, to reduce back pain, muscle tension and aches with age, the state of health weakens. It is obvious! To this is added the taking of drugs of all kinds. All this has the effect of weakening the body and causing many ailments such as lower back pain, muscle stiffness and tension. Unlike young people who can recover quickly on their own, seniors find it difficult to recover from these ailments. Massage is then an excellent way for them to remedy this.
By acting on key areas of the body such as the neck, shoulders, pelvis, back, feet and legs, the massage mattress reduces all existing muscle and joint tension. The combined effect of vibration and heat promotes blood circulation. This has the effect of oxygenating the muscles and relieving back pain and aches.

The massage mattress helps reduce stress
More fragile and more exposed than the rest of the population, the elderly can also be victims of stress, anxiety and anxiety. And it must be said that there are many reasons: fragile health, reduced mobility ... They therefore need massage more than ever to evacuate the physical and psychological stress that accumulates in them for a thousand and one reasons. Many studies have shown the effectiveness of massage in reducing stress in the elderly.
The use of a massage mattress helps to provide well-being, relaxation and relaxation in seniors, three ingredients that are beneficial to their age. Not only does massage bring physical relaxation to the elderly. It also reduces feelings of depression and anxiety which tend to increase with age. The benefits of the massage mattress do not end there. This equipment also helps to calm restlessness and improve the quality of sleep. It must be said that age and sleep have never been good companions. This is due in particular to the habit of seniors of going to bed very early or of staying too long in bed. By eliminating all tension from the body, the massage mattress helps you get a good night's sleep.
In addition, it also makes migraines, nervousness and chronic fatigue disappear. During the session, you will therefore fill up with energy!
The massage mattress, to re-tame your body
In the elderly, massage is an effective weapon to awaken every part of the body. The brain remembers every part of the body. Repeated and regular massage sessions can only be of benefit to the elderly person. She has a better perception of her body. Her self-esteem is boosted and she gains confidence and acceptance. Often, as we get older, we have a hard time accepting our body and being proud of it. Massage allows you to re-tame your body and to accept it.
The massage mattress can also be used as a means of preventing falls in the elderly. A person who regularly receives massage sessions regains a better balance. His brain remembers all those areas of the body that tend to be forgotten. The body becomes more sensitive and more receptive.

Chris Brown
Tumblr media
Christopher Maurice Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year, which became certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
With his first single "Run It!" peaking atop the Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist since 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Billboard Hot 100 number one "Kiss Kiss". In addition to his solo commercial success, Brown has been featured on several successful singles such as "No Air", a duet with singer Jordin Sparks, "Shortie Like Mine" with the rapper Bow Wow and "Shawty Get Loose" alongside Lil Mama and T-Pain. In 2009, Brown received significant media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna. Following the release of his third album Graffiti in the same year of the incident, Brown's fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200 and earned him the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. His fifth album Fortune, released in 2012, also topped the Billboard 200. Following the releases of X, Royalty and Heartbreak on a Full Moon, Brown's ninth studio album Indigo (2019) became his third Billboard 200 number-one album. It included his biggest hit in years "No Guidance" which peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100.
Brown has sold over 140 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists. Throughout his career, Brown has won several awards, including a Grammy Award, 15 BET Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, and six Soul Train Music Awards. According to Billboard, Brown has the seventh most Billboard Hot 100 entries with 93. Brown has pursued an acting career, and his personal life has been publicized. In 2007, he made his on-screen feature film debut in Stomp the Yard, and appeared as a guest on the television series The O.C. Other films Brown has appeared in include This Christmas (2007), Takers (2010), Think Like a Man (2012), and Battle of the Year (2013).
Early life
Christopher Maurice Brown was born on May 5, 1989, in the small town of Tappahannock, Virginia, to Joyce Hawkins, a former day care center director, and Clinton Brown, a corrections officer at a local prison. He has an older sister, Lytrell Bundy, who works in a bank. Music was always present in Brown's life beginning in his childhood. He would listen to soul albums that his parents owned, and eventually began to show interest in the hip-hop scene.
Brown taught himself to sing and dance at a young age and often cites Michael Jackson as his inspiration. He began to perform in his church choir and in several local talent shows. When he mimicked an Usher performance of "My Way", his mother recognized his vocal talent, and they began to look for the opportunity of a record deal. At the same time, Brown was going through personal issues. His parents had divorced, and his mother's boyfriend terrified him by subjecting her to domestic violence.
Career
2002–2004: Career beginnings
At age 13, Brown was discovered by Hitmission Records, a local production team that visited his father's gas station while searching for new talent. Hitmission's Lamont Fleming provided voice coaching for Brown, and the team helped to arrange a demo package and approached contacts in New York to seek a record deal. Tina Davis, senior A&R executive at Def Jam Recordings, was impressed when Brown auditioned in her New York office, and she immediately took him to meet the former president of the Island Def Jam Music Group, Antonio "L.A." Reid, who offered to sign him that day. "I knew that Chris had real talent," says Davis. "I just knew I wanted to be part of it."
The negotiations with Def Jam continued for two months, and Davis then lost her job due to a corporate merger. Brown asked her to be his manager, and once Davis accepted, she promoted the singer to labels such as Jive Records, J-Records and Warner Bros. Records. According to Mark Pitts in an interview with HitQuarters, Davis presented Brown with a video recording, and Pitts' reaction was: "I saw the potential ... I didn't love all the records, but I loved his voice. It wasn't a problem because I knew that he could sing, and I knew how to make records." Brown ultimately chose Jive due to its successful work with then-young acts such as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Brown stated, "I picked Jive because they had the best success with younger artists in the pop market, [...] I knew I was going to capture my African American audience, but Jive had a lot of strength in the pop area as well as longevity in careers." Brown attended Essex High School in Virginia until early 2005, when he moved to New York to pursue his music career.
2005–2006:
Chris Brown
and acting debut
After being signed to Jive Records in 2004, Brown began recording his self-titled debut studio album in February 2005. By May, there were 50 songs already recorded, 14 of which were picked to the final track listing. The singer worked with several producers and songwriters—Scott Storch, Cool & Dre and Jazze Pha among them—commenting that they "really believed in [him]". Brown also made some input on the album, receiving co-writing credits of five tracks. "I write about the things that 16 year olds go through every day," says Brown. "Like you just got in trouble for sneaking your girl into the house, or you can't drive, so you steal a car or something." The whole album took less than eight weeks to produce.
Released on November 29, 2005, the self-titled Chris Brown album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 154,000 copies. Chris Brown was a relative commercial success with the time; selling over two million copies in the United States—where it was certified two times platinum by the RIAA—and three million copies worldwide. The album's lead single, "Run It!", made Brown the first male act (since Montell Jordan in 1995) to have his debut single to reach the summit of the Billboard Hot 100—later remaining for four additional weeks. Three of the other singles—"Yo (Excuse Me Miss)", "Gimme That" and "Say Goodbye"—peaked within the top twenty at the same chart.
On June 13, 2006, Brown released a DVD entitled Chris Brown's Journey, which shows footage of him traveling in England and Japan, getting ready for his first visit to the Grammy Awards, behind the scenes of his music videos and bloopers. On August 17, 2006, to further promote the album, Brown began his major co-headlining tour, The Up Close and Personal Tour. Due to the tour, production for his next album was pushed back two months. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital received $10,000 in ticket proceeds from Brown's 2006 "Up Close & Personal" tour. Brown has made appearances on UPN's One on One and The N's Brandon T. Jackson Show on its pilot episode.
2007–2008: Exclusive
In January 2007, Brown landed a small role as a band geek in the fourth season of the American television series The O.C.. Brown then made his film debut in Stomp the Yard, alongside Ne-Yo, Meagan Good and Columbus Short on January 12, 2007. In April 2007, Brown was the opening act for Beyoncé, on the Australian leg of her The Beyoncé Experience tour. On July 9, 2007, Brown was featured in an episode of MTV's My Super Sweet 16 (for the event, it was retitled: Chris Brown: My Super 18) celebrating his eighteenth birthday in New York City.
In November 2007, Brown starred as a video host for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's Math-A-Thon program. He showed his support by encouraging students to use their math skills to help children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Shortly after ending his summer tour with Ne-Yo, Brown quickly began production for his second studio album, Exclusive, which was released in the United States on November 6, 2007. The album debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 294,000 copies in its first week, and received generally positive reviews from music critics. As of March 23, 2011, it has sold over 1.9 million copies in the United States. The album's lead single, "Wall to Wall", peaked at number 79 on US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and number 22 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Kiss Kiss", featuring and produced by T-Pain, was released as the album's second single. It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and became Brown's second number one single following "Run It!" in 2005. "With You", a song produced by Stargate, was released as the third single from Exclusive, and reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
On November 21, 2007, Brown appeared in This Christmas, a family drama starring Regina King. To further support the album Exclusive, Brown embarked on his The Exclusive Holiday Tour, visiting over thirty venues in United States. The tour began in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 6, 2007, and concluded on February 9, 2008, in Honolulu, Hawaii. In March 2008, Brown was featured on Jordin Sparks' single "No Air", which peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also made a guest appearance on Ludacris' single "What Them Girls Like" alongside Sean Garrett. The song peaked at number 17 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and number eight on the US Hot Rap Songs chart. Brown re-released Exclusive on June 3, 2008, as a deluxe edition, renamed Exclusive: The Forever Edition, seven months after the release of the original version. The re-released version featured four new tracks, including the single "Forever", which reached number two on Billboard Hot 100. In August 2008, Brown guest-starred on Disney's The Suite Life of Zack & Cody as himself. In October 2008, he was featured on T-Pain's single "Freeze", from his third studio album Thr33 Ringz. Towards the end of 2008, Brown was named Artist of the Year by Billboard magazine.
2009–2010: Graffiti and mixtapes
In 2008, Brown began work on his third studio album, to be called Graffiti, promising to experiment with a different musical direction while hoping to emulate singers Prince and Michael Jackson. He stated, "I wanted to change it up and really be different. Like my style nowadays, I don't try to be typical urban. I want to be like how Prince, Michael and Stevie Wonder were. They can cross over to any genre of music." The album's lead single "I Can Transform Ya" was released on September 29, 2009. The song peaked at number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and number 11 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Crawl" was released as the album's second single on November 23, 2009. The song reached number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100. Graffiti was then released on December 8, 2009. The album debuted at number seven on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 102,000 copies in its first week, but received generally negative reviews from critics. As of March 23, 2011, it has sold 341,000 copies in the United States.
While performing a Michael Jackson Tribute at the 2010 BET Awards, Brown started to cry and fell to his knees while singing Jackson's "Man in the Mirror". The performance and his emotional turmoil resonated with several celebrities present at the ceremony, including Trey Songz, Diddy and Taraji P. Henson. Songz said, "He left his heart on the stage. He gave genuine emotion. I was proud of him and I was happy for him for having that moment". Michael's brother, Jermaine Jackson, expressed similar sentiments stating, "it was very emotional for me, because it was an acceptance from his fans from what has happened to him and also paying tribute to my brother". Later during the award ceremony, Brown stated, "I let y'all down before, but I won't do it again...I promise", while accepting the award for the AOL Fandemonium prize.
In May 2010, Brown released a collaborative mixtape with Tyga, titled Fan of a Fan. "Deuces", which features Tyga and Kevin McCall, was released from the mixtape in the United States on June 29, 2010. The song peaked at number one on US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for seven non-consecutive weeks, giving Brown his first number-one on the chart since his 2006 hit single, "Say Goodbye". It also peaked at number 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In August 2010, Brown starred alongside an ensemble cast, including Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Idris Elba, Hayden Christensen and T.I. in the crime thriller Takers, and also served as executive producer of the film.
2011–2012: F.A.M.E. and Fortune
Brown's fourth studio album F.A.M.E. was first released on March 18, 2011. Although it received mixed critical reviews, the album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 270,000 copies, giving Brown his first number-one album in the United States. Its lead single, "Yeah 3x", reached the top-ten in eleven countries, including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The album's second single, "Look at Me Now", featuring rappers Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, reached number one on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, where it remained for eight consecutive weeks. It also reached number one on the US Hot Rap Songs chart. The album's third single, "Beautiful People", featuring Benny Benassi, peaked at number one on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart, and became the first number-one single on the chart for both Brown and Benassi. "She Ain't You" was released as the album's fourth US single, while "Next 2 You", featuring Canadian recording artist Justin Bieber, served as the album's fourth international single. To further promote the album, Brown embarked on his F.A.M.E. Tour in Australia and North America.
Brown received six nominations at the 2011 BET Awards and ultimately won five awards, including Best Male R&B Artist, Viewers Choice Award, The Fandemonium Award, Best Collaboration and Video of the Year for "Look at Me Now". He also won three awards at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards, including the People's Champ Award, Reese's Perfect Combo Award and Best Hip Hop Video for "Look at Me Now". At the 2011 Soul Train Music Awards, F.A.M.E. won Album of the Year. The album has also earned Brown three Grammy Award nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album, as well as Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Look at Me Now". On February 12, 2012, Brown won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. During the ceremony, Brown performed several songs marking his first appearance at the awards show since his conviction of felony assault.
On October 7, 2011, RCA Music Group announced it was disbanding Jive Records along with Arista Records and J Records. With the shutdown, Brown (and all other artists previously signed to these three labels) will release future material on the RCA Records brand. Brown's fifth studio album Fortune was released on July 3, 2012. The album debuted atop the Billboard 200, but received once again negative reviews from critics. "Strip", featuring Kevin McCall, was released as the album's buzz single, with "Turn Up the Music" released as the lead single, and "Sweet Love", "Till I Die", "Don't Wake Me Up" and "Don't Judge Me" released as the album's following singles, respectively. To further promote the album, Brown embarked on his Carpe Diem Tour in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Trinidad.
2013–2015: X, Fan of a Fan: The Album and Royalty
On August 9, 2013 at 1:09 AM PDT, Brown was reported to have suffered a seizure from Record Plant Studios in Hollywood, California as a 9-1-1 call was made. When paramedics arrived, Brown allegedly refused to receive treatment and also refused to be transported to the local hospital. (Brown has reportedly suffered from seizures since his childhood.) The next day, Brown's representative reported the seizure was caused by "intense fatigue and extreme emotional stress, both due to the continued onslaught of unfounded legal matters and the nonstop negativity." On November 20, 2013, Brown was sentenced to an anger management rehabilitation center for three months, putting the December 2013 release of X in jeopardy. To "hold [fans] over until [the X album] drops," Brown released a mixtape, titled X Files on November 19, 2013. On February 22, 2014, it was announced that the album would be released on Brown's birthday, May 5, 2014. On April 14, 2014, Brown released a teaser of the new track "Don't Be Gone Too Long" featuring Ariana Grande. However, on October 27, 2013, Brown was arrested for felony assault in Washington, D.C., the fight allegedly having started when two women wanted to take a picture with Brown in front of the W Hotel, and the song and album were again delayed due to Brown's prison sentence. On August 3, 2014, Chris announced via Instagram that the album's release date will be on September 16, 2014. On August 6, 2014, the album cover was revealed. The title track "X" was released as an instant-gratification track alongside the album pre-order on iTunes on August 25, 2014.
Brown's sixth studio album, X was released on September 16, 2014. The album's lead single, "Fine China", was released on April 1, 2013, and sent to US Top 40 radio on April 9. The album features a guest appearance by Kendrick Lamar and production from Diplo and Danja. X debuted at #2 on US Billboard 200 charts with first-week sales of 145,644 copies.
On February 24, 2015, Brown released his first collaborative studio album with Tyga, titled Fan of a Fan: The Album. The album was a follow-up to the pairs 2010 mixtape Fan of a Fan. In early 2015, Brown also embarked on his Between The Sheets Tour with Trey Songz.
In spring of 2015, Brown was featured on DJ Deorro's song "Five More Hours".
On June 24, Brown released a new song titled "Liquor". Shortly after, it was announced that "Liquor" was the first single from his seventh studio album. On August 22, 2015 the singer officially declares from his Twitter profile that the new album will be titled "Royalty" in honor of his daughter, Royalty Brown. On October 16 he has revealed the album cover, portraying Chris with Royalty in her arms in a black and white picture. On October 13, 2015, Brown announced that Royalty will be released on November 27, 2015. After it was revealed that the album has been pushed back to December 18, 2015, in exchange on November 27, 2015, he released a free 34-track mixtape called Before the Party as a prelude to Royalty, which features guest appearances from Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa, Pusha T, Wale, Tyga, French Montana and Fetty Wap. On October 16, 2015, the album cover was revealed. The album was released on December 18, 2015, and it debuted at number 3 on the US Billboard 200, selling 184,000 units (162,000 in pure album sales) in its first week, marking an improvement over Brown's last three studio albums. It also became his seventh solo album consecutive top ten debut in the United States.
2016–2019: Heartbreak on a Full Moon and Indigo
In March 2016, he collaborated again with the Italian DJ Benny Benassi for the song "Paradise" from the album Danceaholic.
On May 1, 2016, Brown announced that his next album title would be Heartbreak on a Full Moon. The lead single "Grass Ain't Greener" was released on May 5, 2016. In May 2016, Brown became the face of sneaker and streetwear retailer Snipes' spring/summer 2016 campaign. On December 16, 2016, Brown released the second single "Party" featuring Gucci Mane and Usher. Heartbreak on a Full Moon was eventually released as a double-disc album on October 31, 2017 via digital retailers and onto CD, three days later by RCA Records. The album received positive reviews from critics, who celebrated the record's variety, its length, and its introspective lyrical content. Heartbreak on a Full Moon debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200, becoming Brown's ninth consecutive top 10 album on the chart.
On March 15, 2018, Brown was featured in a new Lil Dicky single, "Freaky Friday", and its music video. By April 9, 2018, the video had reached over 100 million views and topped the charts in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
On July 20, 2018, while on tour together, rapper Rich The Kid revealed via Instagram him and Chris Brown are recording a joint album. Brown and rapper Joyner Lucas also announced their collaboration project, titled Angels & Demons on February 25, 2018. Both projects are yet to be released.
In 2019, Brown signed an extension and a new license agreement with this label RCA Records. With the new deal in place, Brown will own his master recordings, making him one of the youngest artists to do so at the age of 29.
On January 4, 2019, Chris Brown released "Undecided", the first single off his ninth album, Indigo, alongside a video for the song. "Undecided" saw Brown reunite with producer Scott Storch, who previously worked with Brown in 2005 on his breakout hit "Run It!". On February 4, he appeared on the Trey Songz single "Chi Chi". On April 11, he released the second single off the album titled "Back to Love". The third single, "Wobble Up", was released a week later featuring Nicki Minaj and G-Eazy, announcing that the album is expected to be released in June. On April 25, he appeared on a track with Marshmello and Tyga called "Light It Up". In an announcement on May 2, Brown revealed the list of artists he's been working with for his album, everybody from Nicki Minaj Tory Lanez, Tyga, Justin Bieber, Juicy J, Juvenile, H.E.R, Tank, Sage the Gemini, Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, Joyner Lucas, Gunna and Drake were included on the list. Some of these collaborations were surprising to the media, especially Drake, due to their public feud that lasted for several years. He later revealed the artwork of the album and its track list between May and June 2019. On June 8, Brown released "No Guidance" featuring Drake as a single. It debuted at number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it Brown's 15th top-ten song, and later peaked at number six. Indigo was eventually released on June 28, 2019 as a double album, marking Brown's second album to be released in this style. In the United States, Indigo debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 108,000 album-equivalent units, which included 28,000 pure album sales in its first week, making it his third number-one album in the country. The album also accumulated 97.95 million on-demand audio streams in the United States for its track list of 32 songs. The album spawned a number of other singles, including "Heat", which topped the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay chart, and earned Brown his 13th number 1 on the chart, and second during 2019.
2020: Slime & B
On April 29, 2020, Chris Brown announced the release of a collaborative mixtape with Young Thug, Slime & B. It was released on May 5, 2020.
Artistry
Musical style and influences
Brown has cited a number of artists as his inspiration, predominantly Michael Jackson. Brown emphasizes "Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer." In "Fine China", he exemplifies Jackson's influence both musically and visually as Ebony magazine’s Britini Danielle asserted that the song was "reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall". Choreographically, MTV noticed that it "takes distinct visual cues from classic clips like 'Smooth Criminal' and 'Beat It'", while Billboard complimented his appearance by calling it "a modern way to channel the King of Pop". Usher is also another influence who comes across as a more contemporary figure for Brown. He tells Vibe magazine "He was the one who the youngsters looked up to. I know that we, in the dancing and singing world, looked up to him", and maintains "If it wasn't for Usher, then Chris Brown couldn't exist". Other influences include Marvin Gaye, New Edition and R. Kelly.
Music critics have commended Brown's introduction to R&B, recognizing his modern day adaptations as well as versatility. Vibe's Iyana Robertson says "As traditional R&B flourished around him, the young singer began an evolution of the genre". She saw his debut single "Run It!" as a "prelude to what Brown would continue to do for the next decade: relentlessly disrupt the constructs of rhythm and blues." By his sophomore album Exclusive, she says he was "tapping more electric up-tempos, swimming deep in hip-hop waters and annihilating the pop arena". Describing the Grammy Award winning F.A.M.E. as "his most diverse offering to date", she remarked "There was no level of musical flexibility comparable. There still isn't."
In films such as Stomp the Yard and Battle of the Year, he displayed his ability to breakdance.
Voice
Brown possesses a light lyric tenor voice, which spans three and a half octaves, rising from the bass F♯ (F2) to its peak at the soprano C♯.(C♯6) His vocal ability was first recognized by his mother at a young age, as Brown tells People magazine "I was 11 and watching Usher perform 'My Way', and I started trying to mimic it. My mom was like, 'You can sing?' And I was like, 'Well, yeah, Mama.'" subsequently leading to the start of his career. "Take You Down" most notably earned him a Grammy award nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 2009.
Street art
Brown has produced street art under the pseudonym Konfused, partnering with street artist Kai to produce works for the Miami Basel.
Personal life and legal issues
Relationships
In 2009, Brown dated singer Rihanna. In 2011, Brown began dating aspiring model Karrueche Tran. In October 2012, Brown announced that he ended his relationship with Tran because he did not "want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna." The day after the announcement, Brown released a video entitled "The Real Chris Brown", which features images of himself, Tran, and Rihanna, as Brown wonders, "Is there such thing as loving two people? I don't know if it's possible, but I feel like that."
In January 2013, Rihanna confirmed that she and Brown had resumed their romantic relationship, stating, "It's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about shit. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that." Speaking of Brown, Rihanna also said, "He's not the monster everybody thinks. He's a good person. He has a fantastic heart. He's giving and loving. And he's fun to be around. That's what I love about him – he always makes me laugh. All I want to do is laugh, really – and I do that with him." However, she also declared that she would walk away if Brown showed a hint of his past violent behavior towards her again. In a May 2013 interview, Brown stated that he and Rihanna had broken up again. He subsequently reunited with Tran, but they parted ways following confirmation of Brown's daughter Royalty with Nia Guzman in 2015. In February 2017, Tran was granted a temporary 100-yard restraining order against Brown, and eventually a 5-year restraining order against the singer, claiming he threatened to kill her.
As of 2019, Brown was expecting a second child with Ammika Harris (Pietzker); their son Aeko Catori Brown was born on November 20, 2019.
Domestic violence case
At around 12:30 a.m. (PST) on February 8, 2009, Brown and his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, had an argument which escalated into physical violence, leaving Rihanna with visible facial injuries which required hospitalization. Brown turned himself in to the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire station at 6:30 p.m. (PST) and was booked under suspicion of making criminal threats. The police report did not name the female in the incident as is policy, but media sources soon revealed that the victim was Rihanna. Following Brown's arrest, several commercial ads and some TV shows featuring him were suspended, his music was withdrawn from multiple radio stations, and he withdrew from public appearances, including one at the 2009 Grammy Awards, where he was replaced by Justin Timberlake and Al Green. Brown hired a crisis management team and released a statement saying, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired."
On March 5, 2009, Brown was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats. He was arraigned on April 6, 2009, and pleaded not guilty to one count of assault and one count of making criminal threats. On June 22, 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to a felony and accepted a plea deal of community labor, five years of probation, and domestic violence counseling. Several organizations against domestic violence criticized the plea deal, advocating the punishment was not severe enough for the crime; the level of Brown's influence over youth also came under scrutiny. On July 20, 2009, Brown released a two-minute video on his official YouTube page apologizing to fans and Rihanna for the assault, expressing the incident as his "deepest regret" and saying that he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna and "accepts full responsibility". In the video, Brown said he wanted to speak out earlier about the case but was advised by his attorney not to until the legal ramifications were settled. The video was removed, but is still available online. On August 25, Brown was sentenced to five years of probation, one year of domestic violence counseling, and six months of community service; the judge retained a five-year restraining order on Brown, which requires him to remain 50 yards (45.72 meters) away from Rihanna, reduced to 10 yards at public events. Andy Kellman of AllMusic stated, "A fairly substantial backlash resulted in Brown's songs being pulled from rotation on several radio stations. Ultimately, however, it had little bearing on the progress of his music and acting careers."
On September 2, 2009, Brown spoke about the domestic violence case in a pre-recorded Larry King Live interview, his first public interview about the matter. He was accompanied to the interview by his mother, Joyce Hawkins, and attorney Mark Geragos, as he discussed growing up in a household with his mother being repeatedly assaulted by his stepfather. Brown said of hearing details of his assault of Rihanna, "I'm in shock, because, first of all, that's not who I am as a person, and that's not who I promise I want to be." Brown's mother said Brown "has never, ever been a violent person, ever" and that she does not believe in the cycle of violence. Brown said that it is "tough" for him to look at the famous photograph released of Rihanna's battered face, which may be the one image to haunt and define him forever, and that he still loved her. "I'm pretty sure we can always be friends," said Brown, "and I don't know about our relationship, but I just know definitely that we ended as friends." He stated he did not feel that his career was over, and likened his relationship with Rihanna to Romeo and Juliet, blaming the media attention in the aftermath of the assault for driving them apart. When asked if he had any memory of assaulting Rihanna, he said that he did not, but realized that it occurred, and was sorry for his actions. However, following criticism of saying he did not remember, he later said in a statement, "Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything." Brown said despite this, "[that night] was and still is a blur".
In June 2010, Brown's application for a visa to enter the UK was refused on the grounds of him "being guilty of a serious criminal offence" due to his assault on Rihanna. Brown had been planning to do a tour of British cities as part of a European tour but Sony stated that due to "issues surrounding his work visa" the tour was to be postponed. In February 2011, at the request of Brown's lawyer, Judge Patricia Schnegg modified with Rihanna's agreement the restraining order to a "level one order," allowing both singers to appear at awards shows together in the future. The following month, on March 22, 2011, during an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America at the Times Square Studios, where he was asked about the Rihanna situation and restraining order, Brown became violent in his dressing room during a commercial break before his second performance ending that day's program, and threw an object at a window overlooking Times Square, causing damage to the window. He then took off his shirt, and after several angry confrontations with the segment producer, other show staff and building security, left the building shirtless. Following the incident, he said that he was tired of people bringing up the incident.
On July 11, 2012, Brown's community service was evaluated and he was ordered to meet a judge. The evaluation was ordered by Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg on July 10, 2012. He was scheduled to appear in court with regard to the evaluation on August 21, 2012. While conducting his community service in Virginia, however, Brown was tested positive for cannabis and appeared in court on September 25, 2012, at which time his hearing date was changed to November, to determine whether or not he had violated the terms of his court order. He reappeared in court on November 1, 2012, to ascertain whether or not he had violated his probation less than 24 hours after attending the same party as Rihanna, dressed as an Islamic terrorist. He attempted to address the court and was told by his lawyer, Mark Geragos, "I don't dance; you don't talk." Later that year, in September, Brown received criticism for a new neck tattoo that appeared to be the face of a battered woman, prompting allegations that the tattoo was a depiction of Rihanna. Brown's publicist stated that the tattoo does not depict a battered woman and is instead a design derived from a Day of the Dead sugar skull. On March 20, 2015, Brown's probation ended formally closing the felony case emanating from the Rihanna assault which happened over six years prior.
In a 2017 self-documentary, Welcome to My Life, Brown goes into detail about the abusive relationship, saying he intended to marry Rihanna, but that he lost her trust after he lied about a sexual encounter with someone who worked with him, that happened prior to their relationship.
Religion
When discussing his upbringing, Brown stated: "We were used to two pairs of shoes for a school year. We used to go to church every day. I was one of those kids that had more church clothes than school clothes." He has also discussed his second work of grace, saying that "he experienced the Holy Ghost while performing 'His Eye Is on the Sparrow' in church". After being released from jail on June 2, 2014, Brown wrote that he was "Humbled and Blessed" and tweeted the words "Thank you GOD."
Other legal issues and rehab
On June 14, 2012, Drake and his entourage were involved in a scuffle with Brown at a nightclub called WIP in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City. About eight people were injured during the brawl, including San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker, who had to have surgery to remove a piece of glass from his eye. Drake was not arrested. Brown's attorney alleged Drake was the instigator.
In January 2013, Brown was involved in an altercation with Frank Ocean over a parking space, outside a recording studio in West Hollywood. Police officers in Los Angeles said that Brown was under investigation, describing the incident as "battery" due to Brown allegedly punching Ocean. Although Ocean alleged that Brown had threatened to shoot him, he said he would not press charges.
In July 2013, Brown's probation was revoked after he was involved in an alleged hit-and-run in Los Angeles. He was released from court and was scheduled to reappear in August 2013, to learn whether or not he would serve time in prison. The charges would later be dropped, but Brown would have 1,000 additional hours of community service added to his probation terms.
In October 2013, Brown was arrested for felony assault in Washington, D.C., after refusing to take a picture with two men. The charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. Brown spent 36 hours in a Washington jail and was taken to court in shackles. He was released and ordered to report to his California probation officer within 48 hours. The probation officer prepared a report for the Los Angeles judge, who could have ordered him to complete as many as four years in prison for the beating of Rihanna if found to be in violation of his probation.
On October 30, 2013, Brown voluntarily decided to enter rehab. After Brown completed his 90 days, the judge ordered him to remain a resident at the Malibu treatment facility until a hearing on April 23, 2014. The deal was if Brown left rehab, he would go directly to jail. On March 14, 2014, Brown was kicked out of the rehab facility and sent to Northern Neck Regional Jail for violating internal rules. He was expected to be released on April 23, 2014, but a judge denied his release request from custody either on bail or his own recognizance. At his May 9, 2014 court date, Brown was ordered to serve 131 days in jail for his probation violation. He was sentenced to serve 365 days in custody; however, he was given credit for the 234 days he has already spent in rehab and jail. He was given early release from jail just after midnight on June 2, 2014, because of jail overcrowding calculations that count one day in custody as two days.
The leadership of the Iglesia ni Cristo, a Philippine-based religious sect, filed a fraud complaint against Brown for not appearing at a New Year's Eve show held at the Iglesia ni Cristo-owned Philippine Arena on December 31, 2014. The Iglesia ni Cristo's chief legal advisor, Glicerio Santos IV, acting on behalf of their Maligaya Development Corporation, who manages the Philippine Arena, requested assistance from Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on prosecuting the case. De Lima confirmed that she issued a Lookout Bulletin Order against Brown, meaning that he would have to confront and disprove the allegations of fraud in order to acquire an Emigration Clearance Certificate which would allow him to leave the country. In late afternoon of July 24, 2015, he was permitted to leave the Philippines.
In the early hours of August 30, 2016, a woman called the police to report that Brown had threatened her with a gun inside his house. Due to his previous felony assault conviction, Brown is prohibited to possess any firearms. Police were called, but Brown denied them entry without a warrant. When they returned with one, Brown refused them entry and began what news sources referred to as a "standoff" with the LAPD, including the robbery-homicide division and SWAT team. During this time, Brown was seen posting videos on Instagram, in which he rails against the police and the media coverage of the activity at his house. He denounced media reports that he was "barricaded" inside his house, complained about the helicopters flying overhead, and called the police "idiots" and "the worst gang in the world." He said that he was innocent and "What I do care about is you are defacing [sic] my name and my character and integrity". Brown was arrested and later released from jail on $250,000 bail. On September 1, 2016, Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, stated that there was no standoff and that, with regard to the LAPD search, "nothing was found to corroborate her statement." In September, Japan denied Brown entry due to the allegations. Charges were later dropped after prosecutors declined to arraign Brown on the felony charges.
As of 2016, due to his criminal record, Brown is banned from entering Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
Business ventures
In 2007, Brown founded the record label CBE (Chris Brown Entertainment or Culture Beyond Your Evolution), under Interscope Records. Brown has since signed frequent collaborator Kevin McCall, singer Sabrina Antoinette, former RichGirl member Sevyn Streeter, singer/songwriter Joelle James, and rock group U.G.L.Y.
Brown has stated he owns fourteen Burger King restaurants. In 2012, he launched a clothing line called Black Pyramid, in collaboration with the founders of the Pink + Dolphin clothing line.
