Visa will now use payment processors to facilitate cross border transactions via the USDC Stablecoin on Solana Pay. Solana’s SOL token rose on Tuesday following News that Visa will begin expanding its Stablecoin services, via USDC, to the Solana blockchain, in collaboration with payment solutions providers Worldpay and Nuvei. The SOL token jumped 6% at one point but later fell to 4.39%, trading at $20.25, according to data from Coin Metrics. As of writing time, CoinMarketCap data shows SOL at $19.81. In an News/home/20230905549860/en/Visa-Expands-Stablecoin-Settlement-Capabilities-to-Merchant-Acquirers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">official statement, Visa said its intention is to make cross-border transactions more efficient. According to Visa’s Head of Crypto Cuy Sheffield: “By leveraging stablecoins like USDC and global blockchain networks like Solana and Ethereum, we’re helping to improve the speed of cross-border settlement and providing a modern option for our clients to easily send or receive funds from Visa’s treasury. Visa is committed to being at the forefront of Digital Currency and Blockchain Innovation and leveraging these new technologies to help improve the way we move money.” The statement explains how Visa cards facilitate payments between the user’s bank (the issuer) and the merchant’s bank (the acquirer), which involves clearing and settling several billion transactions every day. Visa says it has already launched live pilots with a few issuers and acquirers. The pilots have helped Visa move several million USDC over the Ethereum and Solana networks. The giant payment processor explains that pilots were used to settle fiat-denominated payments over VisaNet. Visa Continues Crypto Efforts via USDC Settlement The development allows Visa to process USDC through acquirers Nuvei and Worldpay, where the payments are then routed to the merchant banks. This process connects the Cryptocurrency space with the traditional finance system and significantly reduces transaction settlement durations. This development continues Visa’s push into Crypto as the company tries to connect both worlds effectively. Last month, Visa announced that users will be able to pay Ethereum gas fees using their debit or credit cards. This means that Crypto users can transact on the blockchain without an ETH balance. According to Visa, this process could “redefine blockchain-based transactions”. Visa’s work with USDC began in 2021 when the company worked with Crypto.com to test Stablecoin settlement. The pilot used USDC on the Ethereum blockchain to receive Crypto.com cross-border payments. Before then, these cross-border transactions required a few days of currency conversions. In addition, completing the process accumulated transaction fees. As the traditional-to-Crypto push continues, Coinspeaker recently reported that Canadian e-commerce giant Shopify (NYSE: SHOP) is letting users make instant payments with USDC via a Solana Pay integration. Shopify has previously incorporated several other Crypto services for payments, including Crypto.com, Bitpay, and Coinbase. While USDC is the first Crypto Shopify is using via Solana Pay, reports suggest that the plan is to add support for several other assets. The collaboration is likely to be of significant benefit to Solana Pay since Shopify’s presence in the e-commerce sector is heavy. The company sees at least 10% of e-commerce transactions in the US, worth more than $444 billion. Thank you! You have successfully joined our subscriber list.

More than Half of Singaporeans Use Mobile Contactless Payments: Visa Study
Singapore, 28 May 2020 – Mobile contactless payments are on the rise in Singapore with 56 per cent of consumers embracing this new way to pay, according to Visa’s (stock quote: V)Consumer Payment Attitudes Study[1]. An increase of 12 per cent compared to a year ago, this is not surprising given that Singapore is one of the market leaders globally in terms of contactless payments penetration. The increase in usage is also likely due to popular mobile payment options, such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay, being made available to Singaporeans in the past few years.

After months of waiting, I finally receive my MCO Ruby Steel VISA card from @cryptocomofficial! At last, I can use some of my cryptocurrencies to buy real stuffs! #MCO #cryptocurrency #instagadget #instatech #fintech #blockchain #singapore #sgtech #techsg #visa #mastercard #getmco
A post shared by Neo Wee Wu 梁威武 (@weewu) on Nov 29, 2018 at 6:39am PST
Contactless card payments continue to be the most popular option, with 84 per cent of Singapore respondents using this mode of payment. The trend is even higher amongst Generation Y respondents at 92 per cent. Based on the study, Singaporeans prefer the use of contactless payments over other modes of payment when paying for their rides on public transportation or shopping at supermarkets. Top reasons cited for this preference include convenience and rewards.
“Singapore is an extremely developed market when it comes to contactless payments usage. Over the years, we’ve seen tremendous uptake in contactless payments by Singaporeans, and we’re one of the top countries globally to achieve more than 90 per cent contactless payments penetration[2]. Supermarkets and quick service restaurants are one of the key contributors of this growth, coupled with contactless acceptance in new categories such as public transportation, which was introduced last year. During this period of circuit breaker in Singapore, we continue to see strong contactless payments growth and we’re confident that the growth will continue once people are out and about and back to their normal lives,” said Mr. Kunal Chatterjee, Visa Country Manager for Singapore & Brunei.
Visa also recently implemented an option for merchants not to capture signature as a cardholder verification method to reduce consumers’ physical contact with the point-of-sale machines and enable a more frictionless payment experience. This is in addition to increasing contactless payment transaction limits, from the previous amount of $100 to $200 so that consumers can tap and wave their cards or payment devices, without signature verification.
In Singapore, state-of-the-art mobile security and stringent data privacy measures have made the adoption of mobile contactless payments possible. Three in four Singaporeans (75%) do not feel that their personal information is at risk when making mobile payments. In addition, two in three consumers believe that merchants, banks and third-party companies provide sufficient security to protect their transactions.
Security concerns are largely unrelated to the payment mechanism itself, but rather the possibility of losing one’s mobile phone (61%) or the potential for getting hacked (49%). The study also found that three in five Singaporean consumers are even willing to share their location data with merchants in return for special discounts, promotions and services.
With contactless payments becoming more frequently used among consumers, the idea of Singapore becoming a completely cashless society is no longer a pipe dream. Nearly half of Singaporean consumers carry less cash in their wallets compared to two years ago, with increased usage of contactless payments being the top reason (68%). They have also shown continued support for the Singapore Government’s Smart Nation initiative to digitise the country, and 62 per cent of them expect their usage of cashless payment methods to increase next year. As the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to motivate a shift towards digital transactions, changing payment habits could further accelerate the growth of digital payments.
[1] The Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes Study was conducted in October 2019 by ENGINE Insights with 511 Singaporeans aged 18-65 years of age. This is part of a regional research project conducted in Southeast Asia on 5,000 consumers across seven markets in Southeast Asia.

Visa Goes All In on New Technologies, Strategic Acquisitions
In business for 60 years, Visa Inc. is global leader in digital payments with a market capitalization of $250 billion.
As the world moves toward a cashless society, the VisaNet payment network handles more than 65,000 transaction messages a second.
During the past year, Visa’s payment volume increased by 11%, revenue went up by 15%, and there are now almost 3.3 billion Visa-branded credit and debit cards in existence, 4% more than a year ago.
The not-so-secret elixir of Visa’s success is evolution, and the payment-processing giant’s continual development of new payment methods and technological advancement through partnerships.
Acquisitions and Investments
Visa consistently invests in fintech companies and partners include Behalf, Marqeta, Payworks, Klarna, LoopPay, Square and Stripe, among others.
A recent acquisition is fintech startup Paidy, currently serving more than 1.5 million users with unique payment mechanics. Users can shop online without creating an account or using a credit card; make payments by entering a mobile phone number and email addresses; receive payment authentication via a four-digit code sent through SMS or voice. Monthly, customers pay one bill, which includes all transactions, at a convenience store or through bank transfers or auto-debits.
Earlier this year Visa acquired Fraedom, a Software-as-a-Service technology company providing payments and transaction management solutions for financial institutions and their corporate customers including expense management and accounts payable solutions.
Digital Technologies
“Increasingly, businesses are replacing inefficient paper-based payment systems with digital tools,” said Vicky Bindra, global head of products and solutions, Visa. “This strategic acquisition allows Visa to offer a more comprehensive business solution to our corporate clients that is innovative, global, highly configurable and intuitive for their employees.”
Visa is trialing in the US and Europe a new dual-interface (chip- and contactless-enabled) biometric payment card with Mountain America Credit Union and Bank of Cyprus. This will be the first pilot in the US to test an on-card biometric sensor for contactless payments. The card uses fingerprint recognition as an alternative to PIN or signature authentication of a cardholder during a transaction.
You want a fast way to pay. We know faster is always better. See if your card has the next fast thing: just look for the contactless indicator to Tap to pay with Visa.

“The world is quickly moving toward a future that will be free of passwords, as consumers realize how biometric technologies can make their lives easier,” said Jack Forestell, head of global merchant solutions, Visa Inc.
Juniper Research predicts biometrics will be used for more than 18 billion transactions by 2021, with the value of biometrically verified smartphone payment transactions globally expected to exceed $210 billion in 2021.
International Growth
Visa has a huge opportunity for international growth, particularly in Asia and Latin America.
Over the next number of years, reports CEO Al Kelly, “the bulk of our growth is going to come from overseas. It’s something we’re putting a lot of time and attention to.”
Visa was the Official Payment Services Partner of FIFA, and released data on foreign travelers’ spending during opening days of 2018 FIFA World Cup. In the 11 Russian host cities, approximately one in every five (17%) purchases was with Visa contactless payment technology, including smartphones, bracelets and rings. In the stadiums themselves, the share of contactless payments was 54%, including purchases made by fans from Russia and abroad.

Looking Ahead
Analysts project Visa’s earnings to nearly double by 2021, driven by strong revenue growth.
As Motley Fool reports, “Visa has now been a public company for over 10 years. In that time, its shares have returned over an astounding 800%, almost six times what the S&P 500 index has returned in the same period.”
The article noted that “Visa remains one of the most obvious players to benefit from the world’s shift to digital and electronic payments, and judging by Visa’s third-quarter results, that trend seems to have a long runway of growth ahead still.”

Insurance Leaders and Visa Digitize Claims Payouts for Individuals and Businesses When They Need It Most
SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Emergencies like car collisions or natural disasters come when people least expect them, leaving individuals unprepared to complete insurance forms, confirm claim estimates, and pay repair shop and medical expenses. During these times, quick access to funds is critical. Visa is committed to working with innovative companies in the insurance industry to help turn outdated and time-consuming processes associated with insurance claim payouts into near real-time1 access to payments when individuals, families and businesses need them the most.
“Visa believes that money shouldn’t be a stressor in moments of crisis and waiting on average six to 10 days to access the money from insurance checks, is outdated, frustrating and costly to those in need,” said Bill Sheley, SVP and Global Head of Visa Direct, Visa. “Being such a globally trusted brand, Visa knows trust is the underpinning of the insurance industry. Visa, through Visa Direct and its innovative partners and clients, is uniquely positioned to help bring efficiencies to the payout process and provide a smoother experience for people when they need it the most.”
Visa is working to help enable real-time funds disbursements for insurance companies in partnership with their financial institutions, and their customers. By deploying insurance payouts powered by Visa Direct, Visa’s real-time push payments platform, PNC Bank and Erie Insurance customers can now choose to have an electronic claims payment delivered to their bank account in real-time. Visa is also working with InsurPAY by Invenger Technologies to help enable real-time funds disbursements for American Family.
Globally, payment services partners like SafeCharge with innovators like Setoo, and Peoples Payment Solutions with TELUS Health, are working together to use Visa Direct to make insurance payouts quickly and easily.
In the event of an auto accident, people may not be able to wait to receive checks from their insurance company as it could take days, even weeks, before funds become available. With Visa Direct, Visa clients and partners can enable insurance firms to quickly push disbursements directly to an individual’s or business’ bank account using their debit card for real time access.
Partner Quotes:

Through this partnership, Validus works with Visa to facilitate immediate cash flow to SMEs, who have unpaid invoices in their payment cycles. By clearing invoices for SMEs using a Visa virtual commercial card, Validus helps SMEs expand faster and have a faster turnover for their products and services. The food & beverage (F&B) businesses, have to deal with a large number of buyers ranging from multinational corporations (MNCs) to smaller retail outlets. This large volume of invoices present a unique problem for banks, which may be reluctant to discount invoices payable by SME customers. Validus mitigates this risk for the suppliers.
COO Nikhilesh Goel highlighted, "Validus is adept at assessing SME credit because of our sophisticated risk algorithm, and extensive SME lending experience. We strongly believe that our combined solution with Visa outscores traditional factoring solutions. This is primarily because of its bespoke nature, 100 per cent buyer coverage, and strong technology support. This solution matches the appetite of accredited lenders and institutional investors, which forms our savvy investor base at Validus. Currently, we are collaborating with global banks to offer this solution regionally."
Validus also facilitates the tracking and management of invoice repayments via a sophisticated tech solution as opposed to the traditional manual approach, which is time-consuming and prone to error. This is enabled by Visa's commercial card solution and the fintech solution that Validus provides. This programme is part of Visa's ongoing efforts to support SMEs in Singapore and across the world.
According to Vikram Kshettry, Head for B2B Partnerships and Small Business Asia Pacific at Visa, "Small businesses often face challenges such as access to capital to fund their business growth and this makes them vulnerable. Similarly, suppliers for these businesses may be challenged to provide adequate credit, as they do not have the skills to underwrite higher credit lines. It is essential that businesses are able to access credit from specialist lenders to invest in their businesses, and for suppliers to be paid on time. The presence of such lenders, who can respond faster to business needs, is key to Singapore's continued SME growth."
GroXers Inc, a leading enterprise run by well-known Singaporean entrepreneur, Nichol Ng, stated that the solution has freed up their cash flows considerably.
"We have been looking for a solution that bridges the gap between our cash flow and account receivables and this is our biggest untapped asset. It is interesting to see how this solution has enabled us to receive our money faster and more seamlessly. At GroXers Inc, 100 per cent of our receivables from B2B retailers are now on credit card payment. We genuinely feel that in today's economy, we should free our time and cash flow to focus on growing our business," said Nichol, who is also Managing Director of GroXers Inc's sister companies FoodXervices Inc Pte Ltd, PlotX Inc Pte Ltd, LogiXtics Inc Pte Ltd, and X Properties Inc Pte Ltd.
According to her, FoodXervices Inc is also considering using the same solution.
Validus and Visa will look to increase their commitment to supporting SMEs in Singapore across a range of industries. This includes businesses that specialise in the distribution sector (e.g. Food & Beverages, FMCGs, consumer durables), services industries (e.g. construction, Information Technology, real estate, property management), and manufacturing (supply of goods from SMEs to large corporates).

Female Entrepreneurs Are Feeling More Empowered as They Gain Ground Globally
SAN FRANCISCO & ATLANTA — According to Visa’s (NYSE: V) new “State of Female Entrepreneurship” report, 79 percent of American women entrepreneurs feel more empowered now than they did five years ago, yet many still face a number of obstacles to growing their businesses. Focusing on a range of interests and priorities derived from the report, Visa is hosting its first She’s Next, Empowered by Visa event today in Atlanta, one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. for women-owned small businesses1.
“Women-owned small businesses are essential to our economy and Visa wants to provide these incredible women with tools and resources that can help them grow and advance their businesses,” said Suzan Kereere, global head of merchant sales and acquiring, Visa.
Visa surveyed female small business owners across the U.S. and specifically in Atlanta. The full study is available here and key findings include:
Entrepreneurial motivations. The top three motivators for women, nationally, to start a business are pursuing their passion (48 percent), having financial independence (43 percent) and flexibility (41 percent).
Funding does not come easily. Three quarters of women entrepreneurs (73 percent) report difficulty in obtaining the funding they needed to start their own business, with 61 percent self-funding their businesses. Results were similar for Atlanta-based female small business owners, with 83 percent citing funding difficulty and 63 percent self-funding their businesses.
Open to new technology. Thirty-two percent of women would direct additional funding towards newer technology, such as digital or social media tools. In Atlanta, female small business owners would like to improve digital marketing (59 percent), social media (50 percent) and be able to conveniently make and accept payments (32 percent).
Biggest challenges. Nationally, women said their top concerns include assembling a good team (37 percent) and finding the right business management tools (36 percent), also citing keeping up with industry challenges (24 percent) and building a support network (23 percent). In Atlanta, women shared different challenges: 37 percent of female founders reported not being able to grow as fast as they need to, developing an online presence (34 percent) and raising funding and capital (32 percent).
Battle of the sexes. Most women feel that business challenges are equally difficult for both women and men. However, some believe that negotiating contracts and raising funding come more easily for men than women, particularly when it comes to raising funding (34 percent), negotiating contracts (35 percent) and making tech decisions (20 percent).
She’s Next, Empowered by Visa – Atlanta Event
Days away from Super Bowl LIII, more than 150 Atlanta-metro area female entrepreneurs will attend the She’s Next inaugural event. The event centers around support and education through dynamic programming: town hall with industry leaders including, Facebook, Square, Yelp and Authorize.Net, keynote from Female Founder Collective leader Rebecca Minkoff, Instagram Story School, networking groups and much more.
At the event, contactless-enabled vending machines will create a unique shopping experience featuring select items from Atlanta-based, women-owned small businesses. In addition, 100 percent of the purchase price of products sold from these machines will benefit Women’s World Banking, a non-profit providing low-income women entrepreneurs around the world the financial tools and resources they need to thrive and pursue their dreams.
Attendees will receive a resource-filled She’s Next toolkit which includes information on how to run and improve your business from industry leaders, key resources and a description of Visa’s full suite of payment services designed for virtually every business need. The toolkit will soon be available to download online for small businesses nationwide.
“Having help from a company as large as Visa, and having its resources in our hands is really powerful,” said Melissa Gallagher, Owner and Operator of Atlanta-based, COCO + MISCHA. “She’s Next, Empowered by Visa, is a great way of creating local community and broader national community, for women in business.”
