entangle[e]elements
Between science and art, the body can be relocated as a support, producing images that migrate from one medium to another. Entangl[e]lements is an installation of intertwined slides, videos, polaroids, photos and performances; exploring the shifts between digital and analog formats. There is a cycle with the deployment of projections, in which the body is used as a connector for patterns that are reflected in static and moving images.
MAx Provenzano presents his most recent individual project at galerie21 located in Hamburg, Germany. The exhibition is an installation made up of recurring elements in the artist's work, such as found objects, postcards, polaroids, photographs, slides, and videos. Through his actions, the artist produces a framework in which his body is a connecting element in the process of migration from one medium to another. entangl[e]lements is a play on words that combines entangled and elements, which are assumed to be elements of entanglement, having as a reference to quantum entanglement in which it is stated that a set of “entangled particles'' can not be defined as individual particles with defined states, but as a system with a single wave function for the entire system. This results in the existence of propagations between these systems despite their distances.
There is a clear autobiographical referentiality of the artist, emphasizing his journey through different latitudes, establishing connection points between different layers of meaning assumed as a system. The installation proposes a transit through a diversity of media ranging from digital to analog. Works such as ProvenSanto and Inventario de Máscaras de Lucha in Polaroids show the appropriation of elements of Mexican culture and their resonance in the construction of identity fictions, among the projections on the body are Kueka Stationnaire, El Golfo Triste, Wiendto, La Quema and Alexander in which there is an interposition of the body as a support; and metaphors based on geopolitics and the historical context are formulated. A selection of slides made with different materials and others found in second-hand sales in Lisbon markets, which outlines an approach to his archive (2017) that can be seen in the room through viewers, projectors or in projection- polaroids over his body. Ornament and MAximiliano David are examples of photographic pieces in which the mise-en-scène is used as an activating mechanism to describe their infiltration processes in social networks and the circulation of images of his body through different media.
The exhibition will be inaugurated with the live performance YoPAd-Verschränkunst on Friday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. (CEST) at galerie 21 at Vowerkstr 21 20357, under the coordination of Elena Pastor.

Texto de sala: El cuerpo plástico
El cuerpo plástico es una propuesta que Jeanne Jiménez ha desarrollado durante años recientes a raíz de un interés particular por la imagen plástica y la imagen personal. En ella vierte su fascinación por algunas ideas y artilugios a través de los cuales se materializa aquel deseo casi inconfesable de suscribir la apariencia a convenciones e ideales estéticos con frecuencia inalcanzables. La artista retrata, por un lado, cosméticos y productos de belleza que advierten y capitalizan este anhelo –como lociones que prometen borrar la inevitable huella del tiempo sobre el rostro, y perfumes y esencias que sugieren contener experiencias, sensaciones y valores absolutos– y, por el otro, series de ejercicios Pilates y de pasos de ballet diseñados para moldear la silueta.
Jiménez presenta así, entre tropos y guiños, extractos de un cuerpo plástico que es a la vez figura humana –no accidentalmente femenina– vuelta artificio, motivo y soporte, y teoría y práctica de la pintura en su afán de capturar la imagen, como Narciso a su reflejo.

Exhibition of new work: coming April 2023
TENDER CUSPS is a new series of performative video and printed textile works. Informed by the artist’s thirty-year practice in visual performance, the exhibition reconsiders the body in our current era, extending intimacy and duration to domestic material processes and digital technologies. This particular body: white, female, fleshy and aging, attempts to suspend time and prolong the tipping point: the moment right before collapse, dangling, almost falling, almost overflowing. During the months of pandemic anxiety and countless self-tests, the artist noticed a large white spot forming in her throat. The doctor said it was of no concern, just a seed under the surface, gradually getting coated. The image of becoming like an oyster, the body under strain producing pearls, inspired two body-based videos and a series of textile works with beaded embroidery. Interior images of the artist’s own body—including a capture of the white spot and various medical scans from breast to eye to brain—are pigment ink printed on oxford cloth, lightly altered with kitchen solvents, and hand-stitched with glass beads and actual pearls, indicating the vulnerability, familiarity, and lusciousness of the flaws within. The exhibition also includes an edition of diptych Riso prints, as transportable and affordable companion pieces to ‘Horizon,’ a 5.5-meter (18-foot) textile work. http://www.oberwelt.de/

A launch presentation of a video verification program will be held from 19:00 on 3 July (Mon) at Cafe Bar Livre in Meidaimae. At this event, I will be performing at a live concert for about 30 minutes from around 20:00. It will be a video and music performance with the theme of color field painting. 久しぶりにライブに出演します。日時は7月3日(月)20:00ごろから30分程度、場所は明大前にあるCafe Bar Livreで、入場料は1000円だそうです。当日は1960年ごろにアメリカで隆昌したカラー・フィールド・ペインティングに着想を得たライブ演奏と映像パフォーマンスを行います。
また、ライブの前には、プログラマーの友人が開発した映像認識システムの発表会にも出演予定です。こちらは19時開始予定です。
I will be performing at a live concert for the first time in a while. The date and time is 3 July (Mon), from around 20:00 for about 30 minutes at Cafe Bar Livre in Meidaimae, with an admission fee of 1000 yen. A live and video performance inspired by the colour field paintings that flourished in the USA around 1960.
Also, I will performing at a launch presentation of a video verification programme developed by my friend. This is scheduled to start at 19:00.

ProvenSanto is a fictional character who emerges as a result of my migratory process, combining my last name with the wrestler figure from Mexico. As a result of being an importation in Mexico after leaving Venezuela. The narrative is a mix between El Santo´s Wiki-biography and some elements related to performance art, using the google translator as a basic AI to read in Portuguese a text in Spanish, generating the Portunhol as a result: a linking point between cultures. As an immigrant in Portugal (Spanish speaker- Latin American) Portunhol represents a way to communicate about my story providing a performative way.

“On a Body” is a video-dance short film that connects body and light in a dreamy, abstract experience. The interpreter’s choreography interacts with the images that are projected in him in a symbiotic game. His body assumes the role of a canvas that is painted with images and sensations, alluding to the relationship between subject and nature, and the way both shape each other. In life, we are shaped by projections that are screened on us and that identify us at our surface, as we move in time and space. We are dancers in the dark, as the world leaves its mark on our skin.
