Nearly 500 people in Lebanon have been killed. In a day. It’s absolutely horrific. I’ve long been afraid it would come to this. Israel is turning Lebanon into Gaza. They are trying to drag the US into a war with Iran.
There are no breaks on the Israeli genocidal war machine.
I often think about historical forks in the road, moments when a society must choose to go down the path of war or the path of peace. That path is chosen long before a conflict comes to a head. (My daily worry is that China and the US have already chosen the path to war, that it’s only a matter of time before the consequences of their cumulative geopolitical choices are realized).
One of the few good things to come out of Obama’s colossally disappointing presidency was the Iran nuclear deal, which was secured to the chagrin of the psychopath Netanyahu. Normalizing relations with a country that was no real threat to the US was the sensible thing to do. It was a step on the path to peace, a step toward greater regional stability in the Middle East too. Trump ripped up that deal and assassinated Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, putting us back on the path to war.
Despite Israel’s outrageous provocations, the Iranians have been remarkably restrained. Israel literally carried out an assassination on Iran’s sovereign territory. In Tehran. On the day of their new President’s inauguration. And after that, Iran did not take the bait by retaliating. Let’s also not forget…Israel bombed Iran’s embassy in Syria, an egregious violation of the Vienna Convention of 1961.
I fear that because Americans have Iran Derangement Syndrome we will sleepwalk into this catastrophic regional war. Netanyahu is playing Biden like a fiddle. Someone make this madness stop. No arms to Israel. The war in Gaza and Lebanon must end.

The Israeli attack is a significant violation of international law.  Embassies are sovereign territories of the nation they represent under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Israel has conducted numerous attacks in Syria and Lebanon. This strike marks the first Israeli attack on Iranian diplomatic territory.
The attack comes as the U.S. authorized a new arms shipment to Israel, including powerful bombs.

I keep referencing this scene from 1x8, so might as well make it easier for my self.
1692 Salem Witch Trials
1735 War for Independence (Our world: 1775-1783. The Molasses Act was passed in 1733, but was apparently routinely ignored before the end of the French and Indian War in 1763, and the resulting tensions ramped up until the riots began in 1772.)
1800 First Mexican War, 1810-1812 Second Mexican War (Our world: 1846-1848, after the Texas Revolution in 1836 and Mexico's own independence from Spain 1810-1821. In our world, the Louisiana Purchase was in 1803, leading to the Lewis And Clark and Pike Expeditions that decade. The UK supported Tecumseh's War in Indiana in 1811, rolling into the War of 1812, but which was the tail end of the Sixty Years' War era 1754-1813 of struggle between the UK, France, US, and Natives over the Great Lakes area.)
According to non-canon After The Storm, the Cession was created in the 1830s.
American Civil War 1840-1842 (Our world: 1861-65. As said above, in our world the 1840s was when the Mexican–American War took place.)
1908-1911 World War (Our world: WW1 1914-1918, Roaring 20s, Great Depression 1929-1939, WW2 1939-1945)
1940 The Hague (Our world: Notably, Geneva is not listed in this timeline, indicating that if Geneva was still a site of political importance, it wasn't to relevant witches. There were, however, also Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907. The 1899 conference led to creation of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and its housing, the Peace Palace, opened in 1913, also hosting many of the international organizations The Hague is known for today.)
1961-64 Chinese Civil War (Our world: 1927-49, with the US only making some minor moves about the Taiwan Strait.)
1960-present Proxy Wars (Our world: Cold War 1946-1991, NATO 1949, Korean War 1950-53, Vietnam War 1959-1975, Cuban Missile Crisis 1962, Moon landing 1969, Iranian Revolution 1979, Panama Invasion 1989, Gulf War 1990, Somalia and Bosnia/Herzegonia 1992, Haiti Invasion 1994, Kosovo 1996)
No mention of a Cold War or War on Terror (the latter not being surprising, given that it was replaced by the Spree)
Alder mentions the following locations as a part of "the early days" in 1x1:
Gibraltar (Great Siege 1779-83 stemming from Spain supporting the US in the Revolutionary War)
Tripoli (based on needing to have lifespan proximity to Gibraltar, this is about the Barbary Wars in the early 1800s between Ottoman Tripolitania and the US/Sweden)
Solomon Islands (rediscovered by Britain in 1767, Christian missionary work in the mid-1800s)
Alder's reminiscing from 2x9:
Bay of Bengal "running red with British blood", could be colonial or World War era.
Anatolian Plateau, probably about the Turkish War of Independence from the Ottoman Empire 1919-1923 after WWI, with Ankara becoming the new capital. Ankara is too far inland to be practical for the sea-based conflicts in the Barbary Wars and Aegean Sea conflicts. But there was also the Turkish "low-level civil war" 1976-1980.
Vienna, one summer, uhhhhhhhh probably World War events
Some other timeline notes:
1992 the Martyrdom in Liberia (Our world: immigration from the US with intent to colonize beginning in 1822, republic established 1847, coup in 1980, new republic in 1985, first Civil War 1989-1997, during which Greenville was destroyed.)
1994 Batan's bottles show up in Sudan (Our world: Sudan independence from Britain and UK in 1956, coup by al-Bashir in 1989, US sanctions in 1993)
1995 Batan's bottles show up in "in Minsk during the Belarus partition" (Belarus declared independence from the USSR in 1990, Lukashenko in 1994)
1997 First confirmed Spree attack
Some point in the 2000/10s: Bridey and her unit were in the Andes
Seven years ago (2012), per 1x6, Petra was in Belarus and encountered "The Balkan Composition".
The Balkan Composition was first deployed in "the Battle of the Urals", per 2x3
Willa and Quinn were stationed in Norilsk (a Russian city, west of the Urals) as a part of a siege at some point.
So what we see is that up to the World War, Alder's witch military mostly sped things up by a few decades (with the weird exception of the late 1700s/early 1800s, including Thomas Jefferson's presidency). Then, it seems that American hegemony would then delay/reduce much of the "modern" conflicts, or shift things around. Certainly, it seems that there was likely a large shift in the history of Eastern Europe and repercussions in East Asia.

Big brain point idea here but. . . .
You can acknowledge that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a horrifically oppressive regime that is neither supported by the majority of their own people in Iran or by most Iranians outside of Iran, and is a nation state that backs and supports multiple terrorist fundamentalist cells across the MENA region.
and
Also acknowledge that Israel is a horrifically oppressive and genocidal regime who in an effort to pull their warmonger sugar daddies (US, UK, EU) into an on the ground conflict; illegally and without cause violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 by bombing the consulate of the Iranian Embassy in a third separate sovereign nation which has been entirely ignored and treated as normal by the western countries.
Iran's attack on Israel is not unprompted but Israel's was.
FURTHER THIS IS ALL MOSTLY POLITICAL THEATRE BY WESTERN POLITICIANS AND ISRAEL TO DISTRACT THE GENERAL GLOBAL POPULATION FROM THE GENOCIDE TAKING PLACE IN GAZA OR THE STATE SPONSORED TERRORIST MOBS BURNING OUT VILLAGES IN THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK.
A free Palestine is the goal and has to always be the goal, focus, and driving premise forward.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE COMMISSION ON NARCOTIC DRUGS 2024
RE: AMEND UNITED NATIONS “DRUG-CONTROL” CONVENTIONS
UNODC: Please forward this email to the CND Chair and all Vice Chairs.
Dear Chairman Philbert Isaac Kobina Abaka Johnson:
I write to bring your attention to the failure of UN “drug-control” treaties. Every year in advance of the annual March CND session in Vienna, a report on drug use and another on drug trafficking are produced. Those reports evidence, without fail, that the recreational drug use prohibition, intolerance and punishment paradigm is a drugogenic, criminogenic and corruptogenic failure.
Special sessions of the UN General Assembly regarding “the drug problem,” most recently UNGASS2016, likewise collect evidence of that failure, despite giving rise to hope that the future will be better. But it never is better. Reports regarding new drugs, new precursors, more overdose deaths, more health problems, more death penalty punishment, more violent crime and corruption follow UN drug prohibition like a permanent tattoo or darkened shadow, impeaching the very relevance and usefulness of the United Nations.
I believe in the United Nations idea, its potential and the critical need for it, if we are to collectively enjoy a better future, or I would not be writing. The IDPC Shadow Report prepared preliminary to UNGASS2016 documented, using UN-collected data, the systematic, unrelenting failure of the drug prohibition paradigm. Reports and books documenting the UN drug policy failure since 1961 fill libraries.
Secondly, I write to introduce you to my book released late November, The Silver Bullet Solution: Is it time to end the War on Drugs? (Gaudium, 2023), https://www.amazon.com/Silver-Bullet-Solution-time-Drugs/dp/1592113389/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=. I encourage you and every 53 voting CND Member State representatives to read it. All UN ambassadors, representatives, attendees and national and world leaders should also read it.
Without any nation having filed a proposed amendment of UN drug conventions with the Secretary-General, sadly, there is no hope for any productive outcome of this years’s CND session. Talk of human rights, harm reduction and drug policy reform is not action for reform. Statements are just statements, much like this letter. I know UNODC, INCB and CND realize that fact as these UN agencies zealously guard and protect UN drug gospel from amendment—the Treaty Trilogy of UN Drug Prohibition. Like it or not, that gospel is the foundation of the “World War on Drugs.” But UN drug-control treaties desperately need amendment, as I called for in a CND side event in 2015. I drafted several such amendments on behalf of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, now known as Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP), to demonstrate how easy the process can be. (Please Note: I no longer am affiliated with LEAP.)
In any event, without any hope of meaningful change at CND this year, I will not attend or speak.
But optimistically, and respectfully, I hope my letter and my book will encourage you and other CND chairs and members will charge UNODC, Civil Society, experts, and others, with the task of conceptualizing and drafting proposed amendments of UN drug-control conventions for CND consideration and adoption next year.
Kind regards,
James E. Gierach

The Gambian Diplomatic Passport Scandal: How Two Polish Fraudsters Got Immunity
The diplomatic passport scandal Here is what we gathered about the two Polish nationals who were issued diplomatic passports in July 2019.
Stephan Morgenstern and Roman Ziemian were born and brought up in Poland. They never lived in The Gambia. They never visited The Gambia. But they hold Gambian diplomatic passports.
Stephan and Roman are the owners of FutureNet, an online business that is allegedly based on fraud (google it!).
Poland's Office of Competition and Consumer Protection earlier this year issued a scam warning for FutureNet and all businesses owned by the pair.
They are currently the subject of criminal proceedings in Poland and an ongoing wider investigation into their activities.
Stephan was once accused of escaping with stolen money from Salzburg in Austria to Poland.
In their home country, they are under investigation but in The Gambia, they are DIPLOMATS.
With the Gambian diplomatic passports, they can visit more than 80 countries without a visa. They can also travel with large sums of money and items like gold bars without being subjected to interrogation at airports under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
A prominent businessman told What's On-Gambia: "They can never represent The Gambia anywhere. They are using the passports to smuggle cash from different countries." If you want to know how Stephan and Roman got their Gambian diplomatic passports and how much they paid.

Video: Outrage After Israeli Forces Fired Live Bullets at European Diplomatic Delegation in Jenin Editing Team / May 21, 2025 at 08:59AM/ https://ift.tt/UocjIPG image/video: https://ift.tt/81ghESK Home-News-Video: Outrage After Israeli Forces Fired Live Bullets at European Diplomatic Delegation in Jenin Video: Outrage After Israeli Forces Fired Live Bullets at European Diplomatic Delegation in Jenin Occupied West Bank (Quds News Network)- Israeli forces opened fire on a European diplomatic delegation Wednesday at the entrance of Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. The diplomats were visiting the camp to assess the humanitarian crisis and talk to residents. Israeli soldiers stationed near the eastern entrance of the camp fired live bullets directly and heavily at the group. Journalists accompanying the delegation were also targeted. The diplomats were standing near an iron gate Israel installed at the camp’s entrance. The delegation included ambassadors and consuls from Arab and European countries. They had visited the Jenin Governorate earlier in the day. The governor briefed them on the economic collapse in the city, the destruction of infrastructure, and the suffering of 22,000 Palestinians expelled from the refugee camp. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack. In a statement, it called the shooting a “grave and blatant violation of international law and diplomatic norms,” specifically citing the Vienna Convention of 1961. The ministry said the attack showed Israel’s “systematic contempt” for international law and Palestinian sovereignty. The ministry held the Israeli government fully responsible and urged countries whose diplomats were targeted to respond with clear positions and concrete measures. It also renewed its demand for international protection for Palestinians and foreign diplomats working in Palestine. The Israeli military, quoted by Army Radio, claimed the delegation entered a restricted area. A military spokesperson said soldiers fired “warning shots” and expressed “regret for the inconvenience.” No injuries were reported. Eyewitnesses told Al Jazeera that two Israeli soldiers approached the delegation and opened fire directly. The group included 25 diplomats from EU and Arab states, the UN’s refugee agency (UNRWA), and representatives from the EU. The incident forced the immediate cancellation of the visit. European reactions followed swiftly. Italy and France summoned the Israeli ambassadors in their capitals. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani demanded a full explanation, calling the incident “unacceptable.” France echoed the condemnation, confirming that French diplomats were part of the targeted group. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also denounced the shooting. Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Maxime Prévot, said he was “shocked.” He noted that the visit had been coordinated in advance with Israeli forces and involved clearly marked diplomatic vehicles. Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris also expressed outrage. Two Irish diplomats were in the group. Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Kravik said that diplomats must be protected and Israel should respect their immunity. Hamas called the incident a deliberate violation of international law and said it reflects Israel’s disregard for diplomatic norms. Since January, the Israeli military has intensified its operations in Jenin and surrounding areas. The ongoing offensive has killed dozens of Palestinians, displaced over 22,000 residents, and destroyed more than 600 homes. The escalation in the West Bank comes as Israel continues its genocide in Gaza. Since October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 969 Palestinians in the West Bank, wounded about 7,000, and kidnapped more than 17,000, according to Palestinian data. URL Copied

Russia expels 2 Romanian diplomats in response to removal of Russian diplomats
Tumblr media
Two Romanian diplomats were expelled from Russia in response to Bucharest’s expulsion of two Russian diplomats in March, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on April 9.
On March 5, Romania expelled Russian military attache Victor Makovskiy and his deputy, Evgeny Ignatiev, for breaching diplomatic rules of conduct. The move was reportedly in response to Russian interference in Romania’s presidential election.
The two Romanian diplomats were declared “persona non gratae” and were ordered to leave Russia on April 9.
Romania’s defense attache and his deputy were expelled, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.
Russia previously promised to respond to Romania’s decision to expel Makovskiy and Ignatiev in March.
On March 5, Romanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Andrei Tarnea said the expelled Russian diplomats breached the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
“It is an exceptional measure… It is not a measure taken easily, and it is taken when the breaches are grave,” Tarnea said.
The move was reportedly connected to the campaign of Romania’s pro-Russian presidential candidate, Calin Georgescu.
Georgescu, a former candidate in Romania’s presidential elections, was barred from running amid accusations of Russian cyberattacks and a bias in favor of Georgescu on TikTok.
Diplomatic expulsions between Russia and Western nations have become a common occurrence since the onset of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine in February 2022.
Trump didn’t impose tariffs on Russia but they might be wrecking its economy regardless
U.S. President Donald Trump has inadvertently hit Russia’s economy after his “Liberation Day” tariffs caused oil prices to drop drastically on April 7, with potentially massive ramifications for the Kremlin’s ability to fund its ongoing war in Ukraine. Russia has so far failed to agree to a full

#1086 When did diplomatic immunity start?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
French translation (9 June 1815) When did diplomatic immunity start? Diplomatic immunity was recognized in law from 1709 in Britain, but some sort of immunity has existed since the beginning of civilization. Diplomatic immunity is recognized by almost every country in the world, at the moment. It was enshrined in international law at the Vienna Convention in 1961. This convention was held in Vienna, Austria because the first convention that attempted to write a law about diplomatic immunity also happened in Vienna. 193 states signed up to the 1961 convention. The only states that haven’t signed are Palau, South Sudan, the Vatican City, and Palestine. The Vienna Constitution finalized the rules for diplomats and how they should be treated. Diplomats, employees of international organizations, and their immediate family members all have immunity from all civil, criminal cases. They also cannot be arrested, detained, or searched in any way. So, what exactly is a diplomat? A diplomat is a person appointed by one country to conduct diplomacy in a second country. This means everybody that works for government A in country B, from the ambassador at the top, all the way down to the lowest employee. However, they don’t all have the same level of immunity. Ambassadors and their families are granted full immunity, then the immunity decreases as we go down the level of importance. They have immunity because country B agrees that the employees of country A won’t be touched or hampered in any way. This is so that they can go about their job, their diplomacy, without having to worry about interference from government B. It is also so that there is no risk government B will take them hostage and hold them in exchange for concessions. There is obviously a need for immunity where two countries might be hostile to each other, such as the USA and the USSR, but it appears that most immunity is used to get out of parking tickets. Apparently, millions of dollars a year in unpaid parking tickets are lost due to diplomatic immunity. With petty crimes like parking tickets, nothing is done, but with larger crimes, country B can ask for country A to remove the immunity so that the diplomat can be arrested and tried. This is not usually granted, although it depends on the circumstances. The host country is at liberty to ask the diplomat to leave, but they can’t do anything to them. Many of us see diplomatic immunity as a way for diplomats to avoid the laws of a particular country, but it is more for their own safety and actually having to use their immunity to avoid a crime they have committed would probably be a career ending event for many a diplomat. There are a few cases where immunity has been waived, but it tends to be in the favor of a wealthier country. Georgia waived the immunity of a diplomat who caused the death of a 16-year-old girl while driving drunk in New York in 1997. Had it not been in the USA, it is questionable whether they would have waived it. Colombia also waived the immunity of a diplomat who killed a man in London in 2002. So, when did diplomatic immunity start? The concept has been around since people lived together in tribes. Messengers and people involved in diplomacy were often given immunity from being killed or imprisoned, but this was not a law and it was certainly not always the case. There are many examples of messengers and diplomats being killed in order to send a message or to start a war. As larger civilizations began to form, diplomatic immunity became a case of “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” Diplomats from the Roman Empire were given immunity because the consequences of not doing so were too severe. However, again, it was still not law and there are just as many cases where diplomats were not granted immunity. It tends to be a case of the envoys of powerful states get immunity and those of less powerful ones don’t. Genghis Khan’s envoys were always given immunity because if they didn’t his vengeance would be fearsome. Diplomatic immunity was first written down in law in Britain in 1709 with the passing of the Diplomatic Privileges Act. This was not international, and many countries still routinely rounded up diplomats when a war started. This was mostly settled in the first Congress of Vienna in 1815. Napoleon Bonaparte had just been defeated and it looked like there would be peace in Europe for the first time in a long time. Leaders of the various countries felt that it was a good opportunity to set down a framework for long term peace. One of the things that came out of this was a set of rules on how to treat diplomats. These rules were finalized in 1961. And this is what I learned today. “If this is being done to embassy staff, what is being done to citizens who do not have ‘immunity’?”
Tumblr media
What is this question about? Who are those without immunity?
The U.S. Intelligence Service recently published on the international platform ESSC a video message by Egon Cholakian, “Grandmaster's Revenge. Secret Players Exposed” on the international platform ESSC Videos - ESSC (earthsavesciencecollaborative.com)
It was a shock to me to learn many aspects of the intelligence work that had been going on for 30 years. Now these results have been made public and everyone can examine them for themselves.
Now, back to people without immunity.
I'm sure you're sure you're immune, but are you?
Let's dive a little into the events of the terrorist attack in “Crocus City Hall”, which took place on March 22, 2024 at about 20:00 Moscow time in the city of Krasnogorsk.
What began to happen immediately after the terrorist attack?
Abruptly in the Russian Federation, the police intensified checks on people with oriental appearance.
And locals started threatening migrants.
(Somehow very reminiscent of the events of 1933-1945 in Germany with regard to Jews by the Germans).
As a consequence, because of possible aggression on the part of Russians, the heads of Tajik diasporas advised their citizens not to leave the house in the evenings and not to attend mass events. The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry also issued a warning, recommending its citizens to temporarily refrain from traveling to Russia due to the “introduction of enhanced security measures. Those who are already in Russia were advised to carry their documents with them.
Well, next, finally, I'll tell you about immunity.
“In Moscow, police officers broke into the apartment of Kyrgyz Embassy Counselor Manas Zholdoshbekov and demanded from him a document on migration registration. The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry handed a note to the consul of the Russian Embassy, Andrei Buryev, in this regard.
The VChK-OGPU telegram channel associated with the security forces wrote about this incident. According to its data, it happened on April 8. Two Interior Ministry officers came to Zholdoshbekov's residence address and broke the lock on the door and damaged the door to get inside.
“The law enforcers in a rude manner demanded to provide the tear-off part of the migration registration form. Even after the diplomat and his family members presented their diplomatic passports and diplomatic cards, the police officers continued to demand in an aggressive form to provide documents on migration registration, which resulted in bodily injuries to the diplomat's wife and psychological damage to his minor children,” the channel said.
Kyrgyz MP Dastan Bekeshev said he spoke with Zholdoshbekov and the latter confirmed the incident. No one was hurt, he said. “If this is what they do to embassy employees, I can't imagine what they do to citizens who don't have ‘immunity’. The Russian police have apparently gone wild,” the MP added.
The Foreign Ministry said that the Russian police grossly violated the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. Representatives of the Ministry emphasized that the actions of the police officers “are unacceptable, require a thorough investigation and bringing the guilty parties to justice as soon as possible.”
Note that all these facts show that it is through the internal forces of the Russian Federation and through the representatives of the authorities that this conflict is being fomented.
These events have exposed the shadow anti-cult terrorist organization, which really controls Putin and the whole situation. This shadow anti-cult terrorist organization shows that it can easily bring the situation up to civil war and internal coup in Russia, if something goes not according to their plan.
Question to readers: after such information, please tell me: do you have immunity from this anti-cult terrorist organization?

The Biden administration on Sunday faced calls to demand the immediate release of Ecuador's former vice president after Ecuadorian police stormed Mexico's embassy in Quito and forcibly seized the ex-official, a flagrant breach of the 1961 Vienna Convention.
"Ecuador's government has committed a very serious crime, one that threatens the security of embassies and diplomats throughout the world—not least those of the United States, which has threats to its embassies in much of the world," said Mark Weisbrot, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR). "The international community cannot allow this to happen."
The move sparked a diplomatic crisis and global outcry, with Latin American leaders slamming the right-wing Ecuadorian government for its "unacceptable infringement" on Mexico's sovereignty and "kidnapping" of Jorge Glas, who served as vice president under Ecuador's leftist former president Rafael Correa. Glas has reportedly been transferred to a maximum-security prison.
Correa supported lawmaker Luisa González in Ecuador's 2023 presidential contest, which she lost to President Daniel Noboa, the son of the richest man in Ecuador.
The illegal raid of Mexico's embassy late Friday came hours after the Mexican government granted political asylum to Glas, who has been living in the embassy since December, when he announced he would appeal a judge's decision ordering him back to jail. Glas has been convicted of corruption and imprisoned repeatedly in recent years; the former vice president has said the charges are politically motivated.
CEPR noted Sunday that Ecuadorian Attorney General Diana Salazar "has long engaged in a campaign of lawfare and political persecution against former president Rafael Correa and other figures from the former Correa government."
"The charges against Correa have been shown to have so little credibility, and the evidence is so lacking, that Interpol for years has refused to act on Ecuador's red notice against him," the group said. "Belgium has granted him political asylum, and he can travel freely to almost anywhere in the world without fear of extradition. And last year, a Brazilian Supreme Court judge annulled evidence against Glas after authorities admitted it may have been tampered with."
...
As the Financial Timesreported Sunday, Ecuador's right-wing president "is enjoying soaring popularity among Ecuadoreans and strong support from Washington after declaring an all-out war on drug trafficking." In February, the Biden administration declared its "unwavering support" for Ecuador's government and announced "$2.4 million in additional vehicles and security equipment to support the work of police."
FT noted that Noboa, the scion of a banana empire, has invoked "emergency powers to put troops on the streets and sent the army to take control of gang-ridden jails, using tactics partly borrowed from El Salvador's strongman leader Nayib Bukele."
While Noboa's "aggressive response initially reduced violence and brought a precarious sense of safety to places like Guayaquil," The New York Timesobserved, the "stability did not last."
"Over the Easter holiday, there were 137 murders in Ecuador, and kidnappings and extortion have worsened," the Times reported.

Legal Fictions: 1988′s Batman Getting the Law Wrong
I mostly use this tumblr for my poetry and vibes, but those of you who know me IRL know that I spend a lot of my free (and formerly school) time considering Batman comics from the disciplinary lens of law and literature. So for fun I thought I’d break down two examples where Batman just makes stuff up about the law for plot. (Because I can’t keep bothering senior counsel about this during coffee breaks). Also both of these issues are by Jim Starlin...sorry, Jim.
Don’t worry, I may be a lawyer but I won’t use too much jargon!
Example 1: Batman #421 (1988)
Is it true that evidence would be thrown out and the case dismissed...because Batman was the one who obtained the murder weapon? Probably not.
Tumblr media
In this issue we see Karl, a misogynistic serial killer, head to trial for his crimes. With the murder weapon as evidence, the case is clear-cut. But uh oh the Judge says we have to throw out the whole case! What? Let’s break this down.
What is evidence?
In general, it’s an object or information that is relevant to proving/disproving an element of the crime.
What is inadmissable evidence?
Evidence can be “inadmissible” even if it is relevant, if it will unfairly prejudice jurors against a defendant.
Why is the judge here saying that the evidence (the knife) was obtained illegally?
In the United States, the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution protects citizens against “warrantless search and seizures.” Basically the police and other “State Actors” can’t just randomly break into Karl’s house and take his knife the way Batman did. This is called the “Exclusionary Rule” of evidence, where a defendant can say “hey, the police searched my house without a warrant it’s not fair to use that against me because it goes against the principles of justice.”
Okay, so why is this issue incorrect?
Well Batman isn’t actually the police! Private citizens don’t have any rules against obtaining evidence. If Bruce Wayne broke into Karl’s house and brought the knife to court that’s not Fourth Amendment violation. (I mean I don’t recommend that, that’s gonna be kind of questionable and so forth but not illegal per se)
Batman is a private citizen dressing up as a bat to fight crime at nighttime he’s not acting for the State. (If you’re interested in a detailed discussion of this you can check out "Is Batman a State Actor?” by Joshuah Lisk)
Also “without the knife, the State didn’t have enough to convict”? What was this case built on? Hopes and dreams? This is a murder trial! Where’s the jury! It’s fine, I’ll be fine.
Bottom line: sorry, Jim, that evidence was totally admissible and Karl would’ve been convicted (probably)!
Example 2: Batman #424 (1988)
Would Diplomatic Immunity really allow Garzonas to get away anything? Unlikely!
Tumblr media
Felipe Garzonas commits rape and battery. But because he’s the son of an ambassador he can just walk away, apparently.
So, Diplomatic Immunity is a principle of International Law that countries agree to under the 1961 Vienna Convention. The intent is to allow safe passage and peaceful foreign relations between nations. It is not a “license for misconduct” and there is a duty to respect laws.
As the son of an ambassador Felipe MIGHT have diplomatic immunity. If he’s under 21, or under 23 and in school, he would qualify. I mean to me he looks like maybe 35. If that’s the case then he has no immunity.
Pretending this man is 20 and that he has Diplomatic Immunity...he’s probably still in big trouble. Either a) the US can declare him a persona non grata and say “get out please” or b) the government of “Bogatago” can revoke his immunity leaving him open to criminal charges and prison time in the US. This has happened before! In 1997 when a Georgian representative drove under the influence and killed someone, the Georgian government revoked his immunity and he served time in North Carolina.
So, Jason should never have been put in the position of having confronted Garzonas himself. Gordon was totally within his rights to hold Garzonas and call up the embassy!
(This case also has a supposed “he says she says” element that I don’t have time to get into but Gordon should not have let him go imo if you want me to discuss this in another post let me know)
And don’t even get me started on THE JOKER GETTING DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY. And then?? Trying to assassinate the entire UN Security Council??? That’s. It’s a plot convenience don’t worry about it.
And that’s it! I hope this was educating and fun for my fellow Batman fans. If you want to talk more about Batman and the law feel free to reach out! Also if you like the law and comics in general LawintheMultiverse is a fun blog I read! I should??? Probably?? Ask to make a guest post there sometime!
