My rating: 6/10

Modern-day businessdouche (he drives a golden car, which is rather impressively succinct shorthand for "this man is a complete self-absorbed asshat") gets hit on the head and has a coma dream involving his ancestors who died in WWII. This is an odd movie - it's basically A Christmas Carol, but with patriotism and Respect for Our Fallen Heroes (Russia's Fallen Heroes, that is) instead of charity and Goodwill Towards Man - and I usually don't care for the "it was all a dream" ending, but in this case it's kind of enjoyable. The pace keeps up pretty well, and there are some striking visuals - and for once, the stuff set in the past isn't washed out sepia, which is oddly refreshing.

T-34 (2018)

My rating: 6/10

A silly, but mostly entertaining plot and some really pretty visuals combined with some incredibly generic library music (I swear they just searched for "war" and slotted the results in wherever, which is particularly funny during the bathing scene - as the naked men run towards the water in slow motion and the music swells, you half expect to hear a David Attenborough type start talking about "magnificent creatures" and the likes) make for something that is watchable, but not as good as it could've been. The movie starts out very strong, but gets mired in various clichés - including an incredibly pointless romance subplot - along the way and kind of runs out of steam after a while, and at nearly two and a half hours it is far too long.

It's nice that they cast actual Germans as the nazis, though. Always appreciated to not have one's language butchered by machine translation and those who've learned it phonetically.
