Hatsune Miku: The First Virtual Pop Diva
To begin, I must explain what VOCALOID is. It is a voice synthesis software application, capable of singing, developed by Yamaha Corporation. It allows users to generate a song simply by writing the lyrics and melody. Depending on which VOCALOID is used, the voice of the song will vary. In 2004, Crypton Future Media released their first Vocaloid with the software VOCALOID01, called Meiko.

Although Meiko, and later Kaito (2006), did not achieve great success, Crypton Future Media, in 2007, launched Hatsune Miku through the VOCALOID2 software (an update to the first version). Her name translates to "First Sound of the Future." Hatsune Miku was the first virtual vocal character and remains the most famous to this day.

She quickly went viral on a Japanese video-sharing platform (Nico Nico Douga), where users listened to the songs and created collaborative content. Starting from the original song, other users on the platform would create illustrations, 2D and 3D animations, and remixes, demonstrating the various possibilities of using the software for multimedia content creation.
After this initial success, various projects involving Hatsune Miku began, one of the most important being the release of her own video game, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva (2009) a rhythm game released by Sega for the PlayStation Portable, featuring songs such as 'World is Mine' and 'Levan Polka. That same year, Hatsune Miku made her first guest appearance at a concert (Animelo Summer Live), where she was projected on a 2D screen.
A few months later, on August 31, the “Miku FES'09 (Natsu)” took place, where Hatsune Miku performed as the first hologram singer. On March 9, 2010, Miku's first solo live performance titled “Miku no Hi Kanshasai 39's Giving Day” took place, becoming one of her most viral and visited concerts on the internet to this day.
Although the title of this blog is "Hatsune Miku: The First Virtual Pop Diva," her music varies in terms of musical genres. This is due to what I explained earlier: anyone can use the Hatsune Miku software and can use her voice to create the music they desire. Therefore, she is not only the first virtual singer and the first hologram singer, Hatsune Miku is a massification tool for music creation.

Black Mirror - Plaything & Creatures
AKA - The real kind of AI I want to see in videogames
Season 7 of Black Mirror has come out and, surprisingly, I've found a very personal reference in one of the episodes "Plaything" with Peter Capaldi. The game central to the plot really gives me flashbacks to a truly remarkable game I played as a quirky, lonely, kid.
This gives me an excuse to write a whole essay on one of my favourite games which only 5 people will read. It's still worth it. If you watched this episode, and want to learn a small portion of 1990s gaming history knowledge, read on!
In the episode, an introverted game reviewer in the 90s gets tasked with reviewing a game by a genius designer, with a troubled pasts, which attempts to replicate virtual life. A new kind of game, which isn't about conflict or "winning", but which focusses on caring and nurturing virtual life.
The instant this was brought up by Collin, the game designer, I knew this would be my favourite episode of the season. As a video game player I did enjoy shooter games to some extent, but I always much preferred creative, or strategy, games such as Theme Hospital, Black & White, Pharoah and others. But this game instantly reminded me of one of my all time favourite games.
Thronglets, the in-episode game, is likely heavily inspired by the 90s obsession with artificial life and games such as the creatures series created by eccentric, and brilliant, computer scientist Steve Grand.
How remarkable is this game? Isn't it just some basic Tamagotchi style game?
Oh boy would you be wrong! Let's dig in to one of my major hyperfixations from age 7 onwards.
Steve Grand - What Doth Life?
Tamagotchi's were a popular craze in the 90s, but creatures is on a whole different level. Tamagotchis, being a kind of virtual life, relied on you interacting with them using various buttons to simulate giving food, playing or petting them etc. Fun for some (except when you left on holiday for a week and they all DIED) but limited.
Creatures, however, is a very different beast.
The AI models you see today? Computer scientist and AI researcher Steve Grand created very basic versions of neural networks in order to simulate intelligence and learning for his creatures! Unlike modern AI grad students, who have the benefit of standardised hardware and software libraries, Steve instead created this system which worked on Windows 95 computers. Quite the achievement.
It's more remarkable when you realise you could have 10's of creatures in the same world interacting at the same time on this era of hardware.
These simulated life forms were called Norns. They could actually learn, in a rudimentary way, using input from their environment and input from the person running the game. Players weren't entirely passive, as you could pet or slap the norms to reward/punish them for actions as well as interact with objects within the 2D game world.
There is an excellent video explainer for this system which can be found here:
youtube
Not only did Steve Grand do this, he simulated entire biochemical systems for the creatures as well. Not only did it simulate things such as hormones, ATP and insulin but also a number of illnesses and toxins.
Creatures could get illnesses, which you would need to treat. Spend too long in the swamp area? You might get heavy metal poisoning or some horrible bacterial infection.
It would also affect their drives. Too little glucose, and a creature ran the risk of dying. A nice slice of cheese, or some berries, helps to boost energy and keep your norns happy and healthy.
Not only were neural networks, and simulated biochemistry, involved but you could also breed and raise new norns. The genetics system in the game would also influence various inherited biochemical behaviours, but also some of the neural structure as well!
There are STILL communities who breed norns to this day. There is a genre of online game which does use this kind of mechanic, which does remain popular to this day so at least part of Creatures survives on in this form.
Did I also mention that you could SPEAK to them? I still boot up this game on occasion and interact with some of my favourite norns. Obviously, given the hardware and software of the day, the speech is limited to a small vocabulary, but for a 1990's game this was truly incredible.
The Dangers of Too "Realistic" Simulation
Obviously, Black Mirror is a show, in part, telling stories around the dangers of technology. I did like the episode itself, considering the implications of having a significantly more advance simulated life AI observing (and viscerally experiencing) the worst of human behaviour, and what that might motivate it to do and there is ambiguity to what that might indeed be at the end of the episode.
I do think it's important to also discuss how people interact with AI systems in times when social isolation is increasing. The main character in Plaything is drawn to the in-game Thronglets because they offer him a safe non-judgemental social space which he has never experienced before in his life. There are plenty of examples of current AI chatbots who people do interact with in lieu of actual people, perhaps for similar reasons. The cost of living driving up costs, and increasing indirect hostility of business and governments to "third spaces" like parks, bars, libraries and other spaces, also doesn't help the young of today to socialise in person like they did in the past.
It is quite dangerous, then, to have people perhaps too emotionally dependent on software systems which, bluntly, are controlled and owned by large corporations and which can be trained, or altered, with certain viewpoints in mind.
“What I had not realized is that extremely short exposures to a relatively simple computer program could induce powerful delusional thinking in quite normal people.” ― Joseph Weizenbaum on ELIZA, the first chat-bot
Will we live to see such times again?
I miss the creatures games, and the fusion of scientific and creative energy that made it possible in the 1990s gaming environment. Can this kind of thing happen again?
Frankly, Creatures was very much a fluke of a game, created by an AI researcher to show the possibilities of technology to emulate life. I love it to bits, but it's highly unlikely anyone will create anything like it again given current profit motives and linear-mindedness of game design which railroads design into fairly discrete categories. Not necessarily a bad thing, per say, but something that limits the imagination.
The closest I've gotten to seeing similar complexity is with Trico in The Last Guardian, but Trico pales in comparison to the complexity of Steve Grand's creations. Team ICO's intentions to build a relationship with a simulated creature, however, were well served by their approach and the lack of complexity makes it no less impressive. I do wonder, however, what simulated life games could achieve with today's AI systems and technologies. My scratched up Creatures 2 CD ran on Windows 95 computers back in the 1990s. Imagine a similar game released today, taking advantage of all the advancements in software design and research we've had since then and what that could be like....
I can only dream of electric sheep...

**The Ultimate Guide to Producing Hip Hop Music: Hardware and Software Essentials**
As a hip hop producer, you’re about to embark on a journey to create the next big hit. To get started, familiarize yourself with the hardware and software tools used in the production process. In this comprehensive guide, we will cover the essential hardware and software tools, as well as provide tips on how to combine them to produce high-quality hip hop and rap tracks.
---
### **1. Hardware Essentials**
**1.1 MPCs (Akai Pro MPC Series)**
The MPC (Music Production Center) is a legendary sampler and sequencer that has been a staple in hip hop production for decades. The Akai Pro MPC series, including models like the MPC X, MPC Live, and MPC One, offer a myriad of features such as sampling, sequencing, and effects processing. These devices allow producers to create intricate beats and seamlessly blend samples with original material. **Tip**: Experiment with different sampling techniques to find your unique sound.
**1.2 Groove Boxes (Korg Electribe, Roland SP-404, etc.)**
Groove boxes are compact and portable devices designed for creating beats, sequences, and samples on the go. Popular choices among hip hop producers include the Korg Electribe and Roland SP-404. These devices often come with built-in sounds and effects, making them perfect for live performances or quick jam sessions. **Tip**: Use groove boxes for sketching out ideas quickly when inspiration strikes.
**1.3 Drum Machines (Roland TR-808, TR-909, etc.)**
Drum machines are fundamental tools within hip hop production. The Roland TR-808 and TR-909 are iconic machines that have appeared in countless hit tracks. Their distinct sounds can give your beats that classic hip hop flavor. **Tip**: Layer different drum sounds and tweak their envelopes to create a punchier kick or snappier snare.
**1.4 Turntables and Vinyl**
Vinyl records and turntables remain an essential component of hip hop culture. Many producers use turntables to sample and scratch records, adding a unique rhythmic element to their tracks. **Tip**: Explore various genres of vinyl records for sampling; sometimes unexpected sounds can lead to unique beats.
**1.5 MIDI Controllers (Native Instruments Maschine, Novation Launchpad, etc.)**
MIDI controllers provide a hands-on approach to controlling virtual instruments and effects in your DAW. Devices like the Native Instruments Maschine and Novation Launchpad are popular among hip hop producers for their versatility. **Tip**: Utilize pads for finger drumming to capture a more organic feel in your beats.

Sega Dreamcast - Frame Gride
Title: Frame Gride / フレーグライド
Developer/Publisher: From Software
Release date: 15 July 1999
Catalogue No.: T-34201M
Genre: 3D Battle Mech Action
Released before Virtual On Oratorio Tangram, this was the only other Dreamcast Robot battle game. The graphics are quite nice and so is the music even if it is a bit dull for this type of game (I prefer Virtual On's upbeat music). Frame Gride has a very nice option where you can upgrade your Mech warrior to suit your tastes but since it's all in Japanese it can get a bit confusing. Overall, this isn't such a bad game but if you have Virtual On you won't need this.

FAQ & Covid-19 Policy
VidUKon 2025 is taking place in Bristol from Friday 30 May to Sunday 1 June. Before we share more about registration and put out the call for programming, we thought we'd share FAQ about the con as well as our COVID-19 policy. Expect to hear more from us over the coming weeks!
Info under the cut.
About the Con
What is VidUKon?
VidUKon is a fan-run vidding convention based both physically in Bristol, UK, and virtually. It's a weekend for vid watchers and vidders to gather together, in person and online, and watch vids, talk about vids, and have fun.
The physical portion of the con takes place in the Future Inn hotel, Bristol, where we have one large room with a balcony set aside for watching vids together and other activities.
The online portion of the con is based on the VidUKon website, and also uses a Discord server so that attendees can talk to each other, and video conferencing software for things like panels and workshops.
What is vidding, and what is a vid?
A vid is a fan-made music video that takes visuals from one source and audio from another and puts them together in a new way. You might also see them called fanvids, edits, tributes, fancams, MVs, etc. Vidding is the art of making these videos.
Do I need to have made vids to attend the convention?
Not at all! Most of the programming is accessible to anyone who enjoys watching vids. The most common programme items are vidshows - that is, curated playlists of vids. Depending on the year, there may also be panels or roundtables that explore vids from a viewer's perspective.
The occasional programme item might be more technical and geared to vidders in particular, but non-vidders are welcome to attend and listen in if they're curious, or spend those timeslots relaxing elsewhere.
There are also lots of opportunities to socialise with other fans between programme items.
Be warned though, plenty of people come to the con as non-vidders and come back next year having made their first vid! VidUKon is a great way to learn more about vidding in a low-pressure way, if it's something you think you might be interested to try.
What happens at VidUKon?
A ton of things! The con begins on Friday afternoon. We usually break the ice with a quiz, followed by a couple of vidshows. For the rest of the weekend, programming is a mix of vidshows, discussion, talks, workshops and social time.
There’s only one stream of programming, so attendees can attend every programme item if they choose to (and if they have the stamina!).
What are vidshows like?
Each vidshow is a playlist (usually about 45-60 minutes long) of vids on a particular theme. If you're in Bristol, you can watch the vidshow together with the other Bristol Attendees in the designated space at the hotel (usually a cinema-style set-up with a big projector). All registered attendees (Bristol or Virtual) can also watch each vidshow through the website.
What vids are shown?
All fannish vids are fair game – in all genres and styles. Which means that some panels and shows may not be suitable for people under 18.
We prefer to have the vidders' permission to show vids, but the transitory nature of the internet means that can be difficult sometimes. If we are contacted by a vidder and asked not to show a vid, we will not show it.
Registration
What is my display name?
Your display name is the name that you will be known by at the con. You can amend this in your account details after you register if needed, but once that's done you should use the same name in all virtual con spaces, including on the website and the con Discord server.
I have a question about my registration. Who should I contact?
For any questions, please email [email protected]
Vid Shows and Uploading Vids
What is a premiere?
A premiere is a vid that hasn't been shown in any previous convention or event and has not been released online prior the con. It will be shown for the first time ever at the Premieres show on Saturday night at the con, and will also be included on the Premieres physical media that some attendees receive after the con. Anyone is welcome to submit a premiere as long as you are registered as either a Virtual or a Bristol attendee. Vids can be any fandom, theme, or style, and there is no minimum level of experience required.
What is Vidder's Choice?
Vidder's Choice is a show where con attendees can choose an existing vid from their back catalogue to be shown. This can be absolutely any vid as long as it won't be showing for the first time at VidUKon. You might want to submit a crowd-pleasing favourite, or highlight a deep cut that you wish got more love! What is the themed submission vidshow?
The themed submission vidshow is a show with a specific theme that changes each year, for which con attendees can submit a premiere or a vid from their back catalogue. The theme for 2025 has not been decided yet and will be announced in due time.
What is the deadline to submit a vid?
All deadlines for VidUKon 2025 are on 6 April. This includes Premieres; Vidder's Choice; the themed vidshow (theme TBA); premieres that will be shown in curated vidshows (i.e. not Premieres, Vidders Choice, or the themed vidshow).
Should I inform you about the premiere I'm doing?
No, you don't have to. We might poll about it just to get a rough idea of how many vids we'll have and to check if we can fill them all in, but you don't have to inform us, just submit your vid on time for it to be included in the show.
If I'm submitting a vid, how do I get it to you and what format should it be in?
Video submissions are not open yet. We will share more information on the submission process closer to the date. Please get in touch if you ever have any questions.
Convention
What is your Refund Policy?
We offer full refunds until the close of registration of your tier (please note that some tiers close earlier than others). After that date, all refunds are discretionary. We do not want to be jerks about this, so please do contact us, and we may be able to assist, however, after the close of registration, our financial commitments are firm and we have bills to pay. As a non-profit voluntary association with very little surplus cash, we may not have the luxury of refunding tickets at that late stage.
What is your Accessibility Policy?
Vidukon is committed to making the con environment an accessible and enjoyable place for all attendees. If you have specific access needs that you'd like to discuss with us, please contact us at [email protected], and we'll do our best to help.
For in-person attendees, the con rooms are on the top floor, accessible by lift or by stairs. Hotel rooms on higher floors are also accessible by lift or by stairs.
The con programme has regular breaks scheduled into the main programming.
We are going to be asking VJs, panelists, and vidders submitting premieres to include content information about their vids. We ask to warn for the following:
Animal Harm; Auditory Triggers; Blackface/Brownface/Redface; Blood/Gore [significant amounts]; Depictions of Colonialism/Imperialism; Depictions of Police; Holocaust and/or Nazi Imagery; Fast cuts (more frequent than about 8 frames); Flashing/Flickering lights; Incest; Queerphobia; Racism; Physical Triggers [in addition to fast cuts or flashing lights], Self-harm; Sexual violence; Suicide; Transphobia.
We ask to warn for depictions of things even if the vid is critical of them, e.g. a vid that is critical of racism and includes depictions of racist violence will be expected to warn for racism.
If any attendee would like further detail about the content of vids being shown at the con (eg you have a specific trigger that is not included in that standardised list), please get in touch with the ConCom and we'll do our best to help. Anonymous queries welcome. The more notice we have the more thorough we can be in getting content information for you, so ideally email us at least a couple of weeks before the con, but if we get less notice than that we'll do our best to accommodate you.
The content information we collate will be available in the Conbook and on the website for ease of reference of attendees.
COVID-19 Guidelines
Vaccines
In-person VidUKon will require all in-person attendees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 without exception. Proof of vaccination will be required upon arrival. To avoid disappointment, please make very sure to bring your vaccination documents with you to Bristol! We accept photographed documents, so a picture on your phone will suffice. For more information on accepted forms of proof, see below.
Note for regular in-person attendees: please bring your vaccination documents even if you provided them at the 2023 or 2024 event. We're a small crowd and we do remember you, but in the name of fairness, transparency, and security, we ask all in-person attendees to provide vaccination proof regardless of previous attendance record. If this creates any difficulties for you, please don't hesitate to get in touch at [email protected].
Which vaccines are acceptable?
Any vaccine authorized in the country in which the vaccine was received, including authorization for emergency use, for human use as a COVID vaccine is acceptable. The World Health Organization maintains information on the status of vaccine trials and approvals.
I was a participant in a vaccine trial; is this acceptable?
Please contact us directly at [email protected] so we can evaluate your situation on a case-by-case basis.
What does “fully vaccinated” mean?
“Fully vaccinated” means you must have received all required COVID-19 vaccination doses no later than 14 days prior to the day you arrive at VidUKon to allow them to reach full efficacy before arrival. For people arriving on 30 May that would be no later than 16 May. The date of vaccination will be confirmed as part of the registration check. Boosters are not required, but strongly encouraged if you're eligible.
What forms of proof of vaccination are accepted?
We will accept original vaccination cards, digital or physical photographs or photocopies of vaccination cards (front and back, all details readable), or electronic documentation provided by your country of origin, including print-outs of such documentation. This documentation should be provided in person at the registration desk on site. It needs to contain information about the date of vaccination and the type of vaccine, and needs to be identifiable as belonging to you (i.e. be in your name).
If your documentation is not in English or if you are worried about any other issues regarding the acceptability of your documentation, please contact us at [email protected] to discuss details.
What if the name on my ID and the name on my vaccination card don’t match?
We will accommodate this on a case-by-case basis; please contact us at [email protected].
I can’t be vaccinated for a medical reason. What should I do?
At this time, VidUKon requires all in-person members to be vaccinated without exception. If you cannot be vaccinated, please consider attending virtually, which does not require you to be vaccinated or show proof of vaccination.
I'm vaccinated, but my child/friend/partner/family member that I'm bringing along isn't. What should I do?
If you are planning to bring along friends or family to enter con spaces, please make sure to provide proof of vaccination for all people present, including children. Children who are too young to be vaccinated against COVID-19 will unfortunately not be allowed to enter con spaces at the 2025 event. They may enter the hotel lobby or other spaces in the Future Inn that are not con spaces, though.
Testing
If you attend VidUKon in person, you are required to test yourself once a day before you enter con spaces, using a rapid test. VidUKon 2025 encourages in-person attendees to bring their own rapid tests if possible. The con will also provide rapid tests on site.
Please also test before beginning your journey to Bristol. If PCR tests are easy and affordable to come by where you live, we encourage you to get a PCR test done before you travel. If you cannot easily get a PCR test, a rapid test will suffice.
If you have any questions or doubts about the testing requirements, please contact us at [email protected]
Can I get rapid tests for free?
Not anymore :(
Do I need to provide proof of my daily rapid test result?
No, we may give reminders about testing but we will be trusting everyone to test appropriately over the weekend.
What do I do if my rapid test result is positive?
If your rapid test shows a positive result, you will unfortunately be unable to continue participating in VidUKon 2025 in person. You are encouraged to switch to virtual participation. Possibility of refunds in a case like this will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
What should I do if I'm having symptoms?
If you experience symptoms that might be a sign of a COVID-19 infection, please test yourself using a rapid test. If the test result is positive, you will unfortunately be unable to continue participating in VidUKon 2025 in person (see above). If the test result is negative, please use your best judgment to decide whether or not to continue participating in person, keeping in mind that depending on viral load, rapid tests may not be 100% accurate. You always have the option to switch to virtual participation, and also switch back whenever you feel safe participating in person again. Possibility of refunds will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Do I need a PCR test to attend the con in person?
No, a rapid test is sufficient. However, if you can easily get a PCR test done, we encourage you to take one before you travel to Cardiff.
Masks
VidUKon 2025 continues to require all in-person attendees to be wearing a mask in con spaces at all times, except while actively eating or drinking.
What counts as a mask?
A mask should completely cover your nose and mouth with material that can effectively filter droplets and aerosolized particles. It should fit snugly against the sides of your face without gaps. Nose wires are recommended to improve fit, and multiple layers are generally more effective. Face shields are not an acceptable alternative to masks, although they can be worn in addition to masks if you desire.
I can’t wear a mask for a medical reason. What should I do?
We generally accommodate medical exemptions to masks but would like to evaluate on a case-by-case basis, so please contact us at [email protected]
What counts as a con space?
A con space is any area reserved for con attendees, such as the conference rooms reserved for VidUKon. The hotel lobby is not a con space, neither is the hotel restaurant.
What are the rules in spaces that are not con spaces?
There are no specific masking rules in place anymore in spaces that are not con spaces. We encourage you to use your best judgment regarding masking in those spaces.
Are there going to be designated areas for eating and drinking or is it allowed anywhere?
At this time, VidUKon is not planning to set up designated areas for eating and drinking. We ask attendees to try to keep their masks on at all times and be courteous and considerate regarding the exception for eating and drinking.
Local Regulations and Travel
The above-described guidelines reflect the level of safety VidUKon will aim to provide for in-person attendees. Select guidelines may change or additional ones may be added as the con approaches. In the unlikely case of significant changes, you will hear about them in the regular pre-con communications we send out.
If you are attending the con from abroad, please make sure to check all applicable regulations for your travel route.

Hi! Name's Ada (she/her) and this is my main blog where I post and reblog almost anything.
I like video games. My favorite genre is classic survival horror and titles inspired by that era. My absolute favorite is Signalis. Other than that I'm very big on Half-Life, old school PC games and all things PS1/PS2.
But I'm seriously not normal about Signalis. You'll see a lot of it.
Other than video games, I like virtual photography, wlw art, anime/manga, tinkering with software and tech, image/video editing... sometimes I write and much more sporadically I also draw.
I'm really bad at handling side blogs, so this place is kind of a dumping ground for almost everything related to my interests and spam reblogging whatever catches my eye like art, shitposts, transfeminist stuff etc.
I also like to talk about my own transition and how I'm doing in general, so you can expect a chain of posts like that here and there.
My current obsession is Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. I'm specifically focused on the OG 1997 release + Crisis Core. My favorite (and canon in my eyes) ship is Aerti, while I myself have fallen in love with Claudia Strife. Currently, I'm in the middle of working on my OC - Aya - who survives the Nibelheim Incident with her and this starts her journey to self-discovery. Sometimes I also update my OC x canon fic series involving them, where the first fics cover how she met Claudia and Cloud, and how they survived Nibelheim, with random fluff referencing the events in Aya's life to follow.
Shera is super cool and underrated as well ;*
You can also spot me talking about Metroid, Metal Gear, Guilty Gear, Nier, 5th/6th gen console graphics, music and most of the media I have OCs for.
Sometimes I post and reblog NSFW content - viewer discretion advised.
Here's the list of my OCs!
I divide my posts into following tags: text.qd - mostly text posts about anything. edit.qd - sometimes I do some photo editing in GIMP, video editing in Kdenlive etc. Mostly shitposts. ao3.qd - my writing screen.qd - screenshots. I enjoy snapping pics in video games, and as long as there is some artistic intent to them, if that makes sense, they'll be under this tag. anim.qd - screen.qd but gifs. ask.qd - me answering questions tag.qd - tag games
Asks turned off for the time being, but my DMs are open for the people I follow and very much welcome.

Therefore, she is not only the first virtual singer and the first hologram singer, Hatsune Miku is a massification tool for music creation.

its time, im in my charon era
ive made my first three rpg horror games :DDD
there's three because two of them are parodies and then there's one actual legit one
all three are in authentic charon game format: rpg maker 2000, similar art style, similar horror premise, short story
i did it for the aesthetic OKAY
⚠️ Before venturing into any of my works, please heed my disclaimer/rules;; I don't want obstructive people engaging with me or my works ⚠️
✿ warning: running these games is a gamble because rpg maker 2000 is old software that windows is trying to assassinate (i cant even run it on my computer sometimes, i have to use a virtual machine or the game editor lol) so i apologize if it doesn't work ✿
the readme has troubleshooting solutions, and easyrpg exists to combat this, but it's not perfect. for example, it changes the text a little bit, which ruins the aesthetic
if ur like me and u care about the aesthetic a lot, then use a virtual machine, otherwise if you have a laptop and not a hardcore gaming pc, the game will probably run fine.
(the one time that having low quality graphics is good xD)
windows 11 users beware, im sticking with 10-
when all else fails i have gameplays available on my youtube
🌸 HERE IS THE GAME MASTERLIST 🌸 PLAY THEM HERE
✿ warning: running these games is a gamble because rpg maker 2000 is old software that windows is trying to assassinate (i cant even run it on my computer sometimes, i have to use a virtual machine or the game editor lol) so i apologize if it doesn't work ✿
!! please care and heed my content warnings when playing these games, as they contain dark subject matter; i promise ill make less edgy stuff in the future its just rn i REALLY WANNA MAKE CHARON GAMES FOR FUN !!
the first two (Akeno Delusion and Carousel) are strictly parody games on the genre, and Doom Stones is the authentic 100% serious charon game
looking back akeno delusion sucks to me but thats cuz its my first one and i gotta start somewhere, the quality only goes up from there
eventually ill stop using rpg maker 2000 and make games with the other makers for more versatility but rn im in love with the retro aesthetic im so sorry
*my art isnt that good but im getting there ok!!
also just a heads up, im not 1 to 1 charon; the aesthetic, artstyle, and story elements are the same, but i dabble in male yanderes instead and i go different places with the story;
🌸 mostly male yans
🌸 protagonist is actually a character
🌸 story goes a little more in depth
🌸 more focus on the horror aspect than sexual
so basically im like a female charon right now heheheh
i plan to make more rpg games, but for sure i want to make at least three more games with similar story beats.
its because i want my own take on the concepts -- doom stones is my take on makoto mobius, but i also wanna make a "scavenger hunt a person's house" type game like makoto nikki and a yanderella equivalent (but the love triangle has more drama)
AND…. MIX ORE BUT YANDERE BUBBLE TEA??????? :DDDD
once im done ill move onto dsp era cuz i wanna make some actual rpgs; like with the cute assets and pixel art
🌸 please follow and support me if you like these and want me to make more; this is just a small portion in the large list of games i wanna make <3
💮 please feel free to contact me regarding game ratings if you sincerely think they're off, im a noob when it comes to posting stuff;; and im just going off code of conduct, if it has any hint of explicit content its going to be 18+, whereas implicit would be like 17+ idk
im not taking any chances lol
🌸 I'd prefer if people don't contact me about troubleshooting problems, but if they have to, carefully go through my instructions first. even then keep in mind i might not be able to help;;
💮 I'm posting these games on tumblr only because they're short. If I make longer games, I'll crosspost them to itch.io or something.
🌸 I'll also make a website in the future, but for now I'll post the games on here. Thank you for stopping by!!

Though I’ve yet to actually get a physical journal specifically for Blue Prince thanks to starting it up while in the hospital, hours in I’ve defaulted to the Steam Deck’s screenshot shortcut more than I think many other users have done in earnest. My Screenshot Folder in my Deck is essentially 50+ Blue Prince pics & 1 pic I took years ago by accident during MGS5 😂
Obviously, this is another thinly-veiled game recommendation post for the absolutely incredible game Blue Prince. It’s a stylish fusion of roguelike/deckbuilding mechanics with a full on Escape Room moment to moment loop. Your “deck” is a series of rooms you’ll draw from your draft pool (ie. your deck) with rooms ranging from neutral new paths & annexes to rooms with significant positive and/or negative traits capable of heavily affecting your path through the house in some manner. Following that you must place said rooms to navigate through an eccentric uncle’s bequeathed legacy villa secretly containing a hidden room which, though never mentioned throughout his ownership of the constantly shifting property, is now the requirement for the player to succeed in providing himself worthy of his uncle’s inheritance.
Though sensible navigation is key due to limited steps per day, several of the rooms have bespoke puzzles & many of the mansion’s rooms meld into one massive puzzle that expands the many secrets of the house & handful of meta progression elements that make the journey through the house as much of a worthwhile & valuable goal as the final room is for players.
(BTW, despite my mention of limited steps, strict beelining is NOT a necessity since the game doesn’t have a hard lock of limited days until a game over. There is no “find Room X by Day 30 or you lose” scenario. No spoilers but you can absolutely leisurely get through this game at your own speed without worries of having “wasted a day” or whatnot. )
Honestly, IMO Blue Prince more than qualifies to stand in the ranks of Lorelei & The Laser Eyes as Escape Room games from the last decade that happen to be not just excellent on their own but true evolutions in the puzzle game genre.
I desperately am begging people even halfway intrigued to try the game out. Hell, I personally balked back when people were posting about putting 40-100+ hours into Blue Prince’s Demo alone but no that was all true & highlights just how dense the game is. An absolute treasure trove of Escape Room-style puzzles for genre fans & just average puzzle fans and/or fans of roguelike deckbuilders truly looking for a true innovator in the genre.
SIDE NOTE:
Despite being on the pulse of the recent Switch 2 Chaos & aching to play DK Bananza at one point or another; it’s releases like Blue Prince that make me absolutely satisfied sitting on the outside of Nintendo’s Walled Garden this generation alongside both Sony & Microsoft’s Consoles, abandoning both after the launch of the Xbox 360. The Steam Deck has simply added so much value & access to my gaming life that the very existence of Nintendo Exclusives is not enough justification to make the upgrade from my current Switch to Switch 2. The triple whammy of S2’s game prices, rotten Online Services monetization plots (ie game chat button, Virtual Console etc.) & an overall executive-level disregard for the living costs of those making up the category of “Average Gamers” - those who happily buoyed a slightly dire Nintendo back around the era of the Wii & Iwata’s general company reign (RIP); all aggregate into a Red Flag Ratking too grotesque & imposing for me to ignore. I’ve genuinely gone from loving what I saw during the Switch 2 Direct to despising every post-announcement blunder to just being bluntly & plainly disinterested in any & all things Switch 2, a state very familiar to me when both the PS4 & Xbox One were the new hotness and I simply decided I couldn’t do the standard console mambo each generation anymore. The Steam Deck’s actual hardware & software versatility & overall game catalog simply makes it the best gaming hardware purchase I’ve made since the era of the 3DS.
Not only is Blue Prince the type of gaming innovation & quality that makes it deserve as much attention & financial compensation as Nintendo’s flagships (Metroid, DK, Mario Kart etc.), but also between my backlog & whishlisted games, the wealth of indie & AA-level games at my fingertips via PC & at regular/regularly massive sales & sale prices collectively dwarfs my need and/or desire for the Switch 2.

About Me
Hello there! I'm Jacob, a 2nd year student at QUT doing a double degree in Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Games and Interactive Environments. Specifically, my majors are Physics and Software Technologies.
Hobbies & Interests
I love playing games! Some of my favourites are Resident Evil (4, 7, & 8), Tekken, Genshin Impact, Terraria, Minecraft, and Wuthering Waves. I love games that encourage creativity and those that challenge you to improve skills. I also love the narratives embedded into games as you feel transported into a different world.
I love programming, the ability to control outcomes with only a few lines of code really fascinates me. Especially with applying these skills in game development, giving life to the characters and objects in a virtual environment always seemed fun to me.
I also love creating art, although I'm still trying my best to improve. 3D modelling and pixel-art are my two most favourite genres when it comes to art.
I would also love to learn animation as bringing inanimate objects to life seems so fun and interesting.
Why I chose this Degree
I was first planning to take a single degree in Science. However, as I was scrolling through courses in QUT (the university I really wanted to study in), I saw this double degree program for both Science and Games. Without hesitation, I applied for this program. So far, I have been enjoying the degree as I have learned a variety of skills.

Want to start music as a career?🤔
Absolutely you can pursue a career in music, and there are numerous paths to gainful employment once you've honed your skills. Music, like any art form, offers a wide range of opportunities across different sectors, from performance to education, production, composition, and more. The key is to identify the area of music that most excites you and to build a skill set that aligns with it. Here are a few potential career avenues: Performance: You could perform as a solo artist, in a band, orchestra, or ensemble, whether in live settings, recording studios, or on tour. This could include classical, jazz, pop, or any genre that resonates with you. Music Education: Teaching music at various levels (from private lessons to school or university settings) is a stable and rewarding career. Many music teachers also supplement their income through performances or private tutoring. Music Production and Sound Engineering: Working behind the scenes, you could produce music, mix and master tracks, or work in sound engineering for film, television, or live events. The digital age has opened up even more opportunities in music production, where many people work remotely or as freelancers. Composition and Songwriting: If you have a flair for creating original music, composing for films, video games, commercials, or even writing songs for other artists is a viable career. Composers often have multiple income streams from licensing and royalties. Music Therapy: This is an emerging field where you can use music to support mental health, rehabilitation, and emotional well-being. It’s a rewarding way to blend music with a desire to help others. Music Business and Management: If you're interested in the industry side, you could manage artists, work in music marketing, music publishing, or help run record labels or music venues.
Session Musician or Producer: Many musicians find work as session artists, contributing to recording projects for other musicians or film soundtracks. Music Technology: With the rise of music software and apps, there are growing opportunities in developing new tools for musicians, working in audio programming, or creating virtual instruments. While a career in music may not always follow a traditional 9-to-5 path, it can definitely be financially sustainable and creatively fulfilling. Success often comes with dedication, networking, a strong portfolio, and an entrepreneurial mindset. The music industry is diverse, and many musicians build hybrid careers—performing, teaching, composing, and producing at the same time. In short, yes, you can absolutely make a living in music, but it often requires passion, persistence, and versatility. You may also note that music not only provides financial stability but also provides peace of mind and comfort that is the most important requirement in one’s life.

Game Software Development: From Concept to Code
Game software development is an intricate process that combines creativity, technical skill, and strategic planning to bring engaging virtual worlds to life. From the initial concept to the final lines of code, every step requires meticulous attention to detail. Whether you're an indie developer or part of a large studio, understanding the game software development process is crucial to creating a successful game. Let’s explore the journey from concept to code and the key steps involved in game software development.
1. Conceptualization and Planning
The journey of game software development begins with a concept. This is where the initial idea is born, often inspired by personal experiences, popular genres, or unique storytelling angles. During this stage, developers outline the core mechanics, gameplay elements, and overall theme of the game. A Game Design Document (GDD) is usually created, serving as the blueprint for the entire project. This document details the gameplay, characters, story, and technical requirements, ensuring that everyone on the team is aligned.
2. Designing the Game
Design is a critical phase in game software development where the concept starts taking shape visually. This stage involves creating sketches, storyboards, and prototypes to visualize the game's environment, characters, and user interface. Tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot are popular for building game prototypes that help developers test ideas quickly. Level design is also crucial, defining how the player will interact with the game world, navigate challenges, and experience the storyline.
3. Development and Coding
Once the design is finalized, the game moves into the development phase, where coding takes center stage. Developers use programming languages like C++, C#, or Python to build the game’s mechanics, controls, and AI behaviors. Game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine provide a solid framework, offering pre-built assets, physics, and lighting to streamline the coding process. Collaboration between developers, artists, and sound designers is key to integrating visuals, audio, and gameplay seamlessly.
4. Testing and Debugging
Testing is an ongoing process throughout game software development but becomes particularly intense as the game nears completion. Quality Assurance (QA) testers play through the game to identify bugs, glitches, and gameplay issues. Debugging involves refining the code to ensure the game runs smoothly and provides an enjoyable player experience. This phase is crucial for fixing performance issues, balancing gameplay, and polishing the final product.
5. Launch and Post-Release Support
After testing, the game is finally ready for launch. Developers release the game on chosen platforms, whether it’s PC, console, or mobile. However, the journey doesn’t end there—post-release support is essential for addressing player feedback, releasing updates, and fixing any remaining bugs.
Conclusion
Game software development is a complex but rewarding process that turns creative visions into interactive experiences. By following these stages, from initial concept to final code, developers can bring their ideas to life and create games that captivate players worldwide.
