Hi everyone! I’ve started a gofundme so I can attend my dream residency ☁️🔗 contribute here!! It’s difficult to ask for this help in the midst of so many arts programs being defunded due to NEA cuts, but artists and arts organizations always deserve funding and have to get it where they can!! Any donation helps and spreading the word is especially appreciated ⛓️
After years of applying, I was recently accepted into the Vermont Studio Center (VSC) Residency Program, a long-time dream come true. I was originally waitlisted, but was thrilled to be offered a spot for their June session. Unfortunately, because of the timing of my acceptance, I am no longer eligible for fellowship funding. The total cost of the residency is $3,442.50, which must be paid in full by May 25, 2025 — less than two weeks before the residency begins on June 9. In addition to the residency cost, I will need an estimated $1500 in material and transportation funds.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at a pivotal moment in my career. I’ve been applying to VSC since 2017, and the chance to spend three weeks immersed in an inspiring, supportive community of artists would be deeply meaningful. This residency would also help me build connections and expand my network beyond the South — opening up new possibilities for collaboration, growth, and creative exchange.
Over the past fifteen years, I’ve built a dedicated artistic practice. I’ve mounted solo exhibitions at the Gadsden Museum of Art, The Old Bailey Gallery, and COOP Gallery, among others. I’ve received several grants and awards, including a 2025 Individual Artist Fellowship in Craft from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. My work will also be featured in the upcoming 2025 Alabama Triennial at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts. I currently serve as an Instructor of Foundations at the University of Alabama and am an artist-member at Ground Floor Contemporary.
If you’re able to contribute, no matter the amount, your support would mean the world to me. Thank you so much for helping me take this important step forward. Follow this link to donate!!!

[Review] Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Edition (iOS)
Tumblr media
Soon to be lost media.
In 2017, Sega began Sega Forever, an initiative to release their retro games on modern mobile platforms. This included lots of Mega Drive games, Crazy Taxi, and even games made earlier for mobile that had been delisted like Sonic 4 Episode 2, or Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition (more on the name in a minute). The project quickly ran out of steam and now it seems that Forever was itself a total misnomer, as these games (and other Sega mobile titles) are being delisted themselves.
The silver lining to this blow against preservation is that Sega is pulling a Good Guy move and making all these games free before removing them (and apparently stripping the ads from the ad-supported ones). This is how I came to play this semi-unique Monkey Ball title.
Tumblr media
This is actually the third Monkey Ball release on iOS. In 2008 Other Ocean, a Canadian studio newly independent from Backbone/Foundation 9, made for Sega the unimaginatively titled Super Monkey Ball, a tilt-controlled take with content based on the Wii launch title Banana Blitz, although as far as I can tell the levels are newly designed. The follow-up SMB2 was more of the same taking from the five worlds not already adapted in the previous iOS title. SMB2 Sakura Edition followed shortly after, a refined rerelease with an extra world based on the newer Wii title Step & Roll—Far East—with a traditional Japanese theme complete with copious sakura.
Now hopefully the name makes sense. Since this game was originally released in 2010, it looks dated with low-poly geometry and character models. I actually like the charm of this kind of graphics though, the simplistic menus and such, and the flat vibrancy is a timeless look.
Tumblr media
Being completely tilt-controlled in gameplay is a bit rough depending on the mass of your device. My old light iPad worked ok, except that tilting can uncomfortably shift your viewing angle, reflections, etc. I even triggered a 180 degree rotation at one point when I was trying to zoom!
The level designs are a bit gentler than typical Monkey Ball courses from what I can tell, to accomodate this less precise control scheme. It wasn’t until late in the bonus Sakura world that I really started getting grief from the game, and I never had a game over situation thankfully.
Tumblr media
The world themes are visually nice, and each has two sets of ten levels plus a single Sakura set, for a total of 110. But there’s no story, no framing, no point; my favourite Super Monkey Ball Adventure’s ambition not to be repeated here at least. The character roster is merely the core four, not even a YanYan to be seen despite being established in the game this one is drawing from. There are some Monkey Party minigames at least, with Target, Bowling, and Golf offering a momentary diversion. But hey, for free it’s a pretty good deal as long as you get it before it’s gone!!

SPIRITBOX Releases Blistering New Single 'No Loss, No Love'
Tumblr media
SPIRITBOX, the boundary-pushing force redefining modern metal, return with their latest single, "No Loss, No Love" — a genre-fluid odyssey that seamlessly collides pulverizing prog-metal, hypnotic electronica, and haunting spoken-word passages. Courtney LaPlante is in peak form, her voice stretching from guttural depths to android-like serenity, channeling both raw power and eerie detachment. Produced by Dan Braunstein and SPIRITBOX's Mike Stringer, the track twists and turns, building from ominous tension to a crescendo of swirling chaos. "No Loss, No Love" feels like a companion to "Yellow Jacket" from the band's acclaimed "Eternal Blue" album.
Accompanying the track is a visually arresting music video, directed by Max Moore and Mike Stringer. Shot in Los Angeles, the video matches the song's frenetic energy, cutting between the band thrashing on a platform engulfed by crashing waves and LaPlante draped in pearls and bold, avant-garde glam, exuding an otherworldly presence. The contrast between organic destruction and meticulous artistry mirrors the sonic textures woven throughout "No Loss, No Love".
"No Loss, No Love" follows the heavy-hitting "Soft Spine" and melodic "Perfect Soul", which is currently climbing the Active Rock radio charts, this week reaching No. 25. Together, they offer yet another glimpse into "Tsunami Sea", the two-time Grammy-nominated band's anticipated sophomore album arriving March 7 via Pale Chord / Rise Records.
With "Tsunami Sea" on the horizon, SPIRITBOX are preparing to unleash their most expansive vision yet. Before the album drops, the band kicks off their sold-out European tour on February 13 at London's iconic Alexandra Palace, marking their largest headline show to date with 10,000 tickets sold. From there, they'll continue across Europe before launching into the "Tsunami Sea" North American tour, beginning April 3 in Dallas, Texas. The 24-date trek — produced by Live Nation — brings LOATHE, DYING WISH and GEL along for the ride, tearing through cities across the U.S. and Canada.
This summer, SPIRITBOX will step onto even bigger stages, joining LINKIN PARK for select stadium dates in Italy, the Netherlands, and the U.K.
"Tsunami Sea" track listing:
01. Fata Morgana 02. Black Rainbow 03. Perfect Soul 04. Keep Sweet 05. Soft Spine 06. Tsunami Sea 07. A Haven With Two Faces 08. No Loss, No Love 09. Crystal Roses 10. Ride The Wave 11. Deep End
Formed in 2017 in the picturesque yet isolated region of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada by vocalist Courtney LaPlante and guitarist Mike Stringer, SPIRITBOX would fully cement themselves as a household name in the summer of 2020 with the release of their blistering breakout single "Holy Roller", along with a host of other captivating singles shortly after, resulting in a media firestorm of hype.
With new and existing fans eagerly watching their next move, SPIRITBOX exceeded every expectation imaginable in 2021 with the release of their genre-defining debut studio album "Eternal Blue" via Pale Chord/Rise Records. "Eternal Blue", which debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200, kicked open the doors of the heavy metal scene and rewrote the genre's playbook with 12 stunning tracks that incorporated everything from djent and post-metal to infectious synth-laden pop sensibilities and cinematic arrangements, brought fully to life by the inimitable LaPlante's ethereal and commanding vocal performances.
The album cycle for "Eternal Blue" saw SPIRITBOX not only grace the covers of esteemed music publications such as Revolver, Alternative Press, Rock Sound and Kerrang!, among many others but would also solidify the band as one of the most in-demand groups in live music today with their one-hundred percent sold out, first-ever headlining tour in support of the album which saw ticket sales over 40,000. The band would also share the stage with seasoned metal veterans such as LIMP BIZKIT and GHOST and win "Best International Breakthrough Band" at the 2021 Heavy Music Awards.
In 2022, SPIRITBOX secured highly coveted spots at numerous major U.S. rock and metal festivals and were nominated for two Juno awards. SPIRITBOX would also round out their current lineup with the inclusion of drummer Zev Rose and bassist Josh Gilbert in addition to releasing their sonically experimental EP "Rotoscope" in June of that year as well as a cross-genre collaboration with dubstep artist Illenium for the track "Shivering".
During another whirlwind year for the band, including a U.S. tour with SHINEDOWN and PAPA ROACH, SPIRITBOX wrote and recorded their critically acclaimed EP "The Fear Of Fear", released in November 2023. The EP features the single "Jaded", which was nominated for "Best Metal Performance" at the 66th annual Grammy Awards. In the same month, the band would make another genre-bending splash with a high-profile collaboration with rapper Megan Thee Stallion for a remix of her song "Cobra".

Bungie has admitted to using unauthorized artwork in its upcoming game, #Marathon, after artist Antireal claimed her 2017 designs were used without permission.
In a statement, #Bungie said a former employee's actions caused the incident and promised to make things right with Antireal. This incident marks the fourth time the studio has faced art misuse allegations in recent years. Critics have noted the striking similarities between #Antireal's artwork and the visuals of Marathon, suggesting that her style significantly influences the game's aesthetic.
While Antireal has stated she doesn't have the means for legal action, public support could assist her in seeking justice. The game is still set to launch on September 23, 2025.

Passing Thoughts 15 (left) & Passing Thoughts 14 (right), Susan Aldworth, archival digital print, 35 x 23 cms, 2013. First shown at GV Art, London in 2013, and in Realisation at the The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge in 2017.

"Something happened in the studio . . . that made me realize that I could make a different type of print whilst still printing directly from the brain slice. The result is the fifteen digital photographic prints which make up the Passing Thoughts suite. I hope that they will remain mysterious. They are unaltered photographs – authentic, strange and beautiful pictures of a human brain. They seem to capture a moment – and this we caught on camera in the studio when we were working with the brain slices. The images revealed themselves and then disappeared in seconds. They were transient and disappeared like a thought. We did not own that brain; it was lent to us. It made its mark and then it went. . . . Originally my intention was to just look at the brain as object. But the brain, in a way, turned from object to subject as we were making the work. So, they are not just anatomical works: they are about the transience of self" (Susan Aldworth's statement for the Brain on Art exhibition at the Brain Observatory, Jan-Feb 2023).
An entry from Susan Aldworth's diary (2012):
"Recently I have been thinking about the brain as matter. I was invited to observe a brain dissection by Professor David Dexter Scientific Director of the Parkinson’s UK brain Bank at Hammersmith Hospital , and, during the session, I was allowed to hold a human brain, Helen Chadwick style. Holding the brain was a moment of total connection with the brain as object. It was colder and heavier than I had expected. But it was not just object – I cradled it like a baby, protective, respectful of holding “someone” – someone very vulnerable in this disembodied state. The object momentarily became the person in my hands. The experience was seminal – would it be possible to translate the physicality of the brain into a piece of work?"
On the Brain Observatory & the Brain on Art exhibition:
"The Brain Observatory, founded in 2005 by Dr. Jacopo Annese, built its reputation as a research lab on The University of California, San Diego (UCSD)’s campus. Today, the Observatory operates as an independent institute focused on bringing the world of neuroscience to the community" (the Brain Observatory website). … "Susan Aldworth, Andrew Carnie, Annie Cattrell, Suki Chan, Pablo Garcia Lopez, and Nina Sellars are at the forefront of an international community of artists who sustain serious interest in scientific research. They often work closely with scientists and clinicians in laboratory and healthcare settings. Several of them are based in the UK, where the creative dialogue between art and bioscience has enjoyed significant funding support since the 1990s. This art-science movement continues to contribute cultural insight and empathy to the human quest for health and well-being.  The exhibition is jointly curated by Dr. Jacopo Annese, President, and CEO of the Brain Observatory, and Dr. Marius Kwint, Reader in Visual Culture at the University of Portsmouth, UK" (the Brain on Art exhibition webpage).

As pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, Iron Maiden achieved initial success during the early 1980s. After several line-up changes, the band went on to release a series of UK and US platinum and gold albums, including 1980's debut album, 1981's Killers, 1982's The Number of the Beast, 1983's Piece of Mind, 1984's Powerslave, 1985's live release Live After Death, 1986's Somewhere in Time, 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, 1990's No Prayer for the Dying, and 1992's Fear of the Dark. In 1982 the band released its album The Number of the Beast, the first with Bruce Dickinson, who replaced Paul Di'Anno as lead singer. This was a turning point in their career, helping establish Iron Maiden as one of the most important heavy metal artists in history. By 2010, more than 14 million copies of the album had been sold worldwide. Since the return of lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith in 1999, the band has undergone a resurgence in popularity, with a series of new albums and highly successful tours. Their 2010 album, The Final Frontier, peaked at No. 1 in 28 countries and received widespread critical acclaim. The sixteenth studio album, The Book of Souls, was released on 4 September 2015 to similar success, debuting at number one in the album charts of 24 countries with physical sales and summary in 43 territories with physical and digital sales. The seventeenth studio album Senjutsu was released on 3 September 2021 and eventually reached No. 1 in 23 countries.
By 2017, Iron Maiden had sold well over 100 million copies of their albums worldwide, despite little radio or television support. According to MD Daily Record by 2021 all audio-visual releases of the band have sold in over 200 million copies worldwide, including regular albums, singles, VHS', DVDs and all compilations. Iron Maiden have become one of the most influential and revered rock bands of all time and helped spawn an entire genre of music. According to many critics the band elevated heavy metal to an art form, proving that academic and musical inspirations can coexist.

HER ...... ROCKET MAN
youtube
HER
The story of HER is characterised by massive successes and tragic strokes of fate, by triumph and tragedy in equal measure - but ultimately it is above all the story of a friendship: that between Victor Solf and Simon Carpentier.
German-born Victor and Frenchman Simon met back in 2007 - they were still at school - and the two hit it off like brothers. When they started making music together, their sound was equally influenced by classic soul à la Otis Redding and hip-hop from the post-"Yeezus" phase. They gave their project the name HER in 2015.
Their music became instantly recognisable when the early song "Five Minutes" was used as the soundtrack for Apple's "Shot on iPhone" campaign - which ultimately earned them more than 6.7 million streams on Spotify. The duo from Rennes with Franco-German roots then released the EP series "Her Tape #1" and "Her Tape #2", which were peppered with highlights such as "Quite Like", "Union" and "Her" - which in turn meant more than 20 million additional Spotify streams for HER. Behind the seductively provocative visuals that adorned their covers was a subtly dreamy newer wave sound, minimalist, somewhere between pop and soul, in which jazz elements also flickered - and so the two best friends circled the globe several times, presented the EPs live and also made a decent wave in the States.
So much for the numbers, the impressive successes of the last two or three years - because in the midst of all the hustle and bustle, Simon lost a long, hard, silent battle against cancer, which hardly anyone outside his closest circle of family and friends realised: he died a few months ago, in August 2017.
"The whole of last year was incredibly hard because Simon was so unwell," reports Victor. "For example, it was incredibly difficult for him to do our tour - but he also thought it was important to carry on and give concerts! He just didn't want to give up, he didn't want to stop... he battled with this illness for six years. And we didn't actually talk about cancer or death that much during that time: We wanted to talk about life instead. And now, I think it's my job to continue this line and this approach. It's really difficult for me, but I'm doing my best - for myself and for him."
With the support of his late friend, at least in spirit, Victor went back into the studio and continued working on their debut album "HER", which will be released by Republic Records in 2018. He put the finishing touches to the existing songs and also returned to the stage in between: among other things, he played a stunning, deeply moving set at the Rock En Seine Festival in Paris - a festival, incidentally, where HER had always wanted to perform. More shows followed all over Europe and then the album was as good as finished: "Most of the songs were already finished beforehand; they just needed some fine-tuning on the vocals, the background vocals...", he reports. "It was just important to me that Simon's voice, Simon's vision and his guitar playing remained virtually untouched and really sounded exactly how he wanted them to in the final version. I worked on that."
With the single "We Choose", HER have already released a significant album harbinger in advance: Simon's unmistakable voice spreads out over an extremely minimalist, light and smooth production, meaning that his presence can be felt immediately and his signature is unmistakable. "The strange thing is that this was the very first song we wrote as HER - and also the last one I recorded with Simon," explains Victor. "We wrote it just as our previous band was coming to an end. We wanted to make a real statement with it: that you can't lose hope, that you have to hold on to what you love. We were working on new ideas every day back then, and this song just stood out because we were also about holding on and carrying on - after all, there were people back then who thought we were going to stop completely now that the other band had ended. Well, we didn't stop. And I think now is the perfect time to release 'We Choose': Because even when things are bad, there's still one thing - hope. The song is kind of the prologue to the next chapter. A chapter that will hopefully continue the way he would have wanted it to."
While the band started this new chapter with a sold-out concert at the Bataclan in Paris, the music of HER remains the best and most tangible proof of how unique the chemistry and bond between the two band founders was.
"It's just extremely important that this album comes out," Victor concludes. "It's the only way for me to come to terms with his death. This is music forever, for life."

Icarus Falls is the second solo studio album. It was released on 14 December 2018, as a double album by RCA Records. Originally planned for 2017, the album was delayed so that ZAYN could focus on the aesthetic and sound the album would adopt, marking a shift from the visual identity used on his debut studio album, Mind of Mine (2016). Icarus Falls is a concept album influenced by Greek Mythology and Icarus, addressing themes such as self-love, finding yourself again as a person, and hope.
Tumblr media
Influenced by the double album structure, ZAYN incorporated several sonic elements in addition to R&B, such as pop, funk rock, trap and electropop. He recruited Alan Sampson, MakeYouKnowLove and Malay, who had already worked with Zayn on his previous album, adding Brian Lee, Dan Grech, Timbaland and the duo Saltwives to the production team.
Six international singles —"Let Me", "Entertainer, "Sour Diesel", "Too Much" featuring Timbaland, "Fingers", and "No Candle No Light" featuring Nicki Minaj—supported the album; the first peaked at seventy-three on the Billboard Hot 100. "Rainberry" and "Good Years" preceded the album as promotional tracks.
Icarus Falls is a concept album inspired by the Greek myth of Icarus. He recalls the story of Icarus, who was told by his father to not fly too high but not too low with his pair of wings, rather to follow his path of flight. Overcome with thrill because he could now fly, Icarus flew too close to the sun, where the beeswax binding his wings together melted, thus destroying his set of wings. ZAYN compares the legend to the ups and downs of his relationship.

Magilumiere Co. Ltd. Anime PV
youtube
Another day, another anime trailer. This one though... well, it's certainly not Dandadan, I'll say that. It might still be worth watching if you enjoy the manga or are curious about the series in general, but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath over it being all that great, and for more than a few reasons.
First of all, this is a coop project. Neither studio has been too hot in recent memory. The bigger name is J.C. Staff, and they don't exactly inspire much confidence in delivering a consistent performance. On the other side, and being touted as the "lead" studio is Moe. Never heard of them? Well, can't blame you, this is their first ever anime. They came to be in 2017, and since then have worked on a grand total of, checks notes, 30 series. Rather surprising and impressive.... until you realize that it's almost exclusively CGI and photography. The studio has effectively no real experience with 2D animation, the only credit being a single episode's worth of in-between animation on the Girl From The Other Side OVA.
So yeah, pretty rough hands the series in, and you could immediately feel that from the key visual for the series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll start with the character designs. They're not great, as expected from a first time character designer. They do a good job of copying the outline, but completely neglect the actual details and styles. Eyes are overall much larger, faces are sharper rather than the more round style of the manga, mouths are much larger, and so on and so forth. Even simple details like Hitomi's (the yellow haired girl) skirt. In the manga, the two tone design has different heights to add depth, but that doesn't exist in the anime.
And really, you see a similar story with the color design/composition. It's washed out and plain flat. It's incredibly bright compared to the manga, which does no favors to the art. I totally understand that you can't add near the same wrinkles and folds in the clothes, but Aoki's shading doesn't rely on lines to create texture and feel, and having that aspect of shading missing from the anime really adds to its struggles.
Anyways, continuing in this downward spiral, this is from a first time director. And no, they don't have a lick of experience with direction in any capacity. The most they've done is CG direction with Moe on the projects that they've supported. It just doesn't really bode well overall, and you can feel that a lot in how little of an impact the trailer leaves on you.
If there was one thing to say was good though, I would most likely say it was the environment art and animation. But even then that's only a 'sometimes' thing, as you get nice environment art like the top image, and then just straight up bad scenes like the bottom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're a fan of the series, or even just curious about it since it was recently licensed by Viz, there's really not much hope for a "good" adaptation here. It's probably passable, and might be enough to get more people interested in the series. As supplementary material and a new way to experience the manga though, it's pretty well looking like a waste of time. Incredibly surprising given how popular the manga is. After all, it did rank third overall in the Next Manga Award in 2022 for the web manga category.

SPIRITBOX Announces New Album 'Tsunami Sea'
Tumblr media
Two-time Grammy-nominated progressive heavy metal band SPIRITBOX is gearing up for its next chapter with the announcement of its sophomore album, "Tsunami Sea", set for release on March 7, 2025 via Pale Chord in partnership with Rise Records. The album was produced by Dan Braunstein and Mike Stringer, mixed by Zakk Cervini and mastered by Ted Jensen. In tandem with the news, the band has dropped their latest single, "Perfect Soul", alongside another one of their signature visually captivating music videos shot and directed by Dylan Hryciuk at Versa Films.
"Perfect Soul" offers a glimpse into the album's melodic sound, balancing riffs and groove with ethereal atmospheres to create a listening experience that pulls listeners in like an incoming tide. The track's haunting video, set in an abandoned oceanside hospital, follows an angelic Courtney LaPlante as she searches the afterlife, surrounded by ghostly figures and a grotesque, barnacle-covered creature. Interwoven with scenes of the band performing in decaying rooms, the visuals capture the song's dark, poetic essence, drawing viewers further into SPIRITBOX's evolving world.
The new single follows the band's initial release from the album, "Soft Spine", which received praise for its crushing intensity. Alt Press called it "relentlessly heavy," and Revolver described it as "a hella-bruising bangabout." These two releases demonstrate the band's commitment to pushing their sound in new directions while staying anchored to their metal roots.
SPIRITBOX has capped off a landmark year with their second Grammy nomination for "Best Metal Performance" for the 2025 awards, this time for their powerhouse track "Cellar Door", cementing their status as a driving force in modern metal. Adding to this momentum, in October SPIRITBOX reunited with hip-hop icon Megan Thee Stallion for her "Megan: Act II" deluxe album, adding their distinct edge to the song "Tyg".
Their ability to transcend genres has only amplified their reach, marking major milestones along the way. Joining KORN on their 30th-anniversary tour, SPIRITBOX hit a career high, bringing their explosive live show to packed arenas across the world. During the tour, they took the stage at Louder Than Life festival, where buzzworthy guest appearances from Poppy, Tati Shmayluk of JINJER, and Sam Carter of ARCHITECTS amplified an already unforgettable set.
As 2024 winds down, SPIRITBOX will join BRING ME THE HORIZON for stadium shows in Brazil and Mexico City, before embarking on their European headline tour in 2025. They've also been announced as support for LINKIN PARK's awaited world tour, joining them for performances in Italy, Netherlands and the U.K. With high-impact live shows and an ambitious new project on the horizon, the next chapter for SPIRITBOX promises to be their most thrilling yet.
"Tsunami Sea" track listing:
01. Fata Morgana 02. Black Rainbow 03. Perfect Soul 04. Keep Sweet 05. Soft Spine 06. Tsunami Sea 07. A Haven With Two Faces 08. No Loss, No Love 09. Crystal Roses 10. Ride The Wave 11. Deep End
For many artists, a meteoric rise can often mean a sudden plateau. However, for Grammy-nominated progressive heavy metal mainstays SPIRITBOX, there appears to be no end in sight on their near-constant ascent to the top. Formed in 2017 in the picturesque-yet-isolated region of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, by vocalist Courtney Laplante and guitarist Mike Stringer, SPIRITBOX would fully cement themselves as a household name in the summer of 2020 with the release of their blistering breakout single "Holy Roller", along with a host of other captivating singles shortly after, resulting in a media firestorm of hype.
In 2022, SPIRITBOX secured highly-coveted spots at numerous major U.S. rock and metal festivals and were nominated for two Juno awards, respectively.

Kriton Beyer is a Greek-German musician and composer, who – as a performer and improviser – mainly works with the harmonium and the daxophone. He studied musicology in Greece where he collaborated with a variety of local music groups as well as musicians like Sakis Papadimitriou and Floros Floridis. In 2004 he moved to Berlin, where he got heavily involved in the improvised music scene of the city. Since then he has worked with many musicians like Phil Minton, Audrey Chen, Steve Noble, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Axel Dörner, Liz Kosack, Kresten Osgood, Tristan Honsinger, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Tomomi Adachi, Richard Scott, Willi Kellers, Matthias Bauer, Antonis Anissegos, Olaf Rupp, Alexei Borisov, Els Vandeweyer, Harri Sjöström, Nicola Hein and Liz Allbee, dancers like Yuko Kaseki in interdisciplinary performance projects like “enLIGHTenment” and visual artists like Akiko Nakayama. Kriton Beyer founded the “Fragmentation Orchestra“, is a member of the electroacoustic trio “uproot” and the ensembles “Redox Reaction” and FDBK EXPT. In his work with the harmonium, Kriton Beyer uses both the natural sound of his instrument and “traditional” playing techniques as well as preparations, objects and extended techniques, while his daxophone play is characterized by a very personal musical and sonic aesthetic, and an unconventional technique, also supported by the subtle use of electronics. As an improvising musician, he has performed throughout Europe. His compositions are usually characterized by conceptualism. Kriton Beyer has also conceived and commissioned the music software CinePrompt®, which was specially developed for the use for live musical performance and live recording to films. Kriton Beyer also curates and manages the concert series and record label “The Procrustean Bed”, dedicated to Experimental & Improvised Music. https://www.kritonbeyer.com/

Roy Carroll is an Irish musician and composer, based in Berlin. He works primarily with electroacoustic media; which includes transducers, synthesis, feedback, audio recordings, amplification, software, - auditory and psychoacoustic phenomena even. With these materials, Carroll instigates processes that ruthlessly investigate timbre, articulation, gesture, form and so on. Feedback, the horror of an instrument hearing itself, is a recurring component of Carroll's work, creating multi-layered forms that continually renegotiate the transformation of electrical audio signals into disturbed air. www.roycarroll.com

Mat Pogo is an Italian vocalist and graphic artist from Rome currently residing in Berlin. He started his musical activities in the mid-1980s as a singer in several free form rock’n’roll bands such as Dum Dum Power, Electric Citizens, Box of Surprises, I Tifoni, Feten7 and Minga. In 1990 he was one of the founding members of the “Burp Enterprise” multimedia collective originally based in Florence and has expanded internationally, developing a music label and publishing house called Burp Publications responsible for some of the most critically acclaimed projects of the Italian underground scene. Beside his practice of spontaneous songwriting, Mat Pogo moved from avant experimental rock to more abstract forms of music and founded Jealousy Party together with percussionist / DJ Roberta WJM Andreucci and reed player Edoardo Ricci in 1995. Jealousy Party is considered to be one of the most advanced musical units in Italy mixing a unique and individual style with soul, improv, avant rock, noise and error music. His solo set features his voice, a microphone and some electronic devices. As a vocalist Mat developed his own personal language using his experience as a rock singer, improvisor and radio artist where music, sounds, anecdotic and narrative elements fuse constantly. Weird processed vocal eruptions, intense screams, occasional words, pitched mouth cavity noises and electronic textures melt together in a very expressive way and often with a delicate sense of humor. Mat Pogo performed among many others with: Jacopo Andreini, Paolo Cantù, Renato Cordovani, Carlo Actis Dato, John Dieterich, Francesco Donnini, Bruno Dorella, Luc Ex, Augusto Forti, Gi Gasparin, Gianni Gebbia, Stefano Giust, Xabier Iriondo, Roy Paci, Claudio Parodi, Jean Hervé Peron, Chad Popple, Ed Rodriguez, Michael Renkel, Eugenio Sanna, and Nicolas Wiese and collaborated in theatre/dance projects with the Italian company Kinkaleri and the Dutch based choreographer Giulia Mureddu. Note
Honestly it’s a good thing that they’re pausing those live action movies. I hope Snow White taught them a lesson about the importance of creativity and taking risks over money and also that supporting a genocide WILL negatively impact your productions (but I doubt they have grasped that).
HOWEVER, we could still have live action, family friendly adaptations of fairytales that are just as great as their 2015 Cinderella movie, if they’re made by another big studio that actually cares! I’ve read somewhere that the live action Disney movies after Cinderella were supposed to follow the same formula and be retellings rather than recreations of their animated movies. Beauty and The Beast (2017) was supposed to be that, but they changed their mind and decided to make it a musical because of the success of Frozen.
But that doesn’t mean that another studio can’t follow the Cinderella formula to make new adaptations! Disney took inspiration from the concept art and rejected ideas they had for the 1950 movie to make 2015 version. Another big studio should do the same and actually take the interesting plot or character ideas that Disney originally scrapped for their movies and look at the early concept art for inspiration to create the visuals for their new adaptations! That way, it could be “Disney” without “officially” being Disney! It would be a great way to expand on popular pieces of media without touching the original versions! It’s like how Wicked takes inspiration from the 1939 Wizard Of Oz film but still create their own iconography instead of copying it. But it’s has so much of the essence of it that it technically makes it part of the same universe, even if they were made by different studios.
And they should do this out of spite every time Disney has plans to do a live action remake! It’s not like they’re ever going to use the scrapped ideas anyway, since they’d rather make dull, cheap-looking, less good copies of their animated classics that are mass produced like Shein clothing rather than be creative! So somebody should show them how it’s done and make them pale with successful adaptations lol

Oh definitely! They should focus on making actual new things and not just some live action version of movies we already know. I agree with you and this should also teach them a lesson to stop hiring people just because they’re considered attractive because besides all the problematic shit Gal Gadot is involved with, she’s not a good actress at all 😭
Something it would be sooo interesting would be if another studio started making movies about fairytales but the original versions, you know? Including all the horror some of them have. At least as someone who’s a fan of horror genre I’d love to see this kind of version of popular fairytales.
It feels like other studios are scared to make films about fairytales like it’s a Disney thing only. I miss movies like Shrek, or Snow White and the Huntsman (but honestly I prefer the second movie, maybe because of Charlize and Emily lol).
