Hello, this is Nk. I figured instead of keeping all the things I thought up in my head I'd just let my brain rot take over and start producing content that maybe others would enjoy to. I know some of my content may not be too quality and some may not enjoy the stuff I produce but if I can at least make one other person experience the same level of happy squealing and absolute joy that I get from my content then I think I've won in life.
Happy to do requests, produce brain rot content, and brighten a few days. Hopefully this master list makes it easier for others to find and enjoy my content.
How to make digital art on a budget
This page contains links to all the content I produce on this blog in an easy to access format. This page is updated frequently. I produce Fanfics, head cannons, fan art, OC art, lore pages and requests when asked.

I was asked for comparison photos of Volks Hewitt with 16mm versus 14mm eyes. Since Shiina (my Hewitt) wears 16mm on the regular, here's a photo of him with 14mm eyes (7mm iris) from 木啊木:
I chose 16mm for him because my Hewitt is meant to be very young. 14mm also works, for an older or more piercing look! Apart from the eye size, note that iris and pupil size also make a difference.
Here's the same 14mm eye on the right, and a 16mm Hands Glass eye (just over 8mm iris) the left:
And his regular 16mm Volks HG (8mm iris) on the left, with a 14mm Hands Glass (7mm iris) on the right:
Hope that helps!

Book Launch: “Wonder: 50 Years RISD Glass”
The Rhode Island School of Design Glass Department celebrated the launch of its new book, Wonder: 50 Years RISD Glass, with a panel discussion, book signing, and reception. This comprehensive publication brings together contributions from scholars, cultural critics, and makers, giving context to the breadth of the field of glass, and supports a deep and expansive understanding of the ways in which this ubiquitous material manifests itself in ways that incite wonder.
Art critic and independent curator Gregory Volk leads a discussion with RISD Glass friends and alumni Jen Bervin, Tavares Strachan, and Stefanie Pender about RISD Glass’ dynamic environment of experimentation and investigation.

Cherry Trees Bloom Ahead of April 9 Festival
Cherry Trees Bloom Ahead of April 9 Festival
The blooms of the Yoshino cherry trees are temporal, a trait bestowing a not inconsiderable amount of the species’ cachet. The single-flower blooms, light pink, last perhaps a week, not even that if the erratic, early weather of spring does not permit. Then, after that splash of effervescence, the relatively small hardwoods are swallowed into the growing green leafing of spring proper. Despite…

My doll journey, 2002 - 2017
The story of how I entered the doll hobby must start with a friend from school - Djinn. I was never particularly fond of dolls as a child, so when she told me about these “super dollfies” that she had discovered, owning one myself was the farthest thing from my mind.
Then, in 2002, she showed me a photo of Mini Super Dollfie (MSD) Hewitt on the Volks website. This was the Dolpa 10 release, so he was oldskin, and this was in an era before high resolution photos were commonplace online. Nevertheless, something about him really spoke to me despite the grainy pictures, and I wound up ordering him via an official Volks reseller in Singapore (now sadly defunct) and had him shipped to me in the UK, where I was studying at university.
Then followed six years of enjoying the hobby, participating in the community, watching the number of collectors grow, and so on. I purchased a few more MSDs to keep Shiina (Hewitt) company, solidified their characters and made photostories about their interactions. I started learning to sew and craft for them. I even ventured outside the MSD size range, which I hadn’t expected to do, and acquired a few Yo-SDs.
In 2008, I began working life and found that it gradually began to demand more and more of me. I had no time for hobbies and hardly any time even for family. I barely played with the last couple of dolls I had acquired (Yo-SD Puff and Kanon) - Kanon in particular was unboxed and then more or less left to her own devices. In 2009, as work swallowed up more and more of my time and life, I took an unplanned hiatus from the hobby and basically disappeared from the doll community altogether.
Since this is about my doll journey and not about myself as a person, it will suffice to say that, since 2009, I have learnt not to let what I do define who I am. :-) I began to recover my life in 2012, but with other interests and even an overseas stint, I didn’t feel drawn back to the hobby till late 2016.
So here I am, playing with my dolls again, over a decade after we began. These days, I find that I enjoy my dolls mainly through sewing for my Yo-SDs. I can’t find much clothing for Yo-SDs in the style which I like, especially for boys, so why not make it? It would be amazing if I could put out a collection of Yo-SD boy clothing some time later this year. I’m also actively searching for my Yo-SD Kanon’s permanent wig and name. Poor little thing, she really was left in limbo when I dropped out of the hobby.
I’m very much looking forward to rediscovering the hobby, enjoying my dolls (especially Tatsue, Peter and “Kanon”, who are relatively undeveloped character-wise), making new friends in the hobby (maybe even in Singapore?), and reconnecting with old ones. :D And thank you for taking the time to read this!

It's a sunny day! I'm hoping to tweak Soo's face-up a little (as you can see, his existing eyebrows have been erased and his lashes removed), and get started on Hyuui-girl with some light sanding and blushing.

Out-take from the hanfu shoot
Shiina: Wait, so besides this shifty *rigmarole* you're making me wear, I have to wear a wig???
Shan (thinks): (Actually, Shiina, you're always wearing a wig... ^^;;)
Shiina: (continues) And why doesn't Tatsue have to wear a wig, huh? Why does he get to keep his real hair??
.... ^^;;
The truth is, I couldn't find a long wig in my stash that properly suited Tatsue (he has more delicate features compared to my other MSD's). From what I've seen around the Internet and in period dramas, males people in hanfu do not typically have bangs or short hair...

Shiina and Soo
Welcome to our newest and youngest (character-wise) member! He probably needs slightly smaller eyes, and a softer-textured wig, but the colours are pretty much what I want for him~ He is a Soo Smile by Mia, on a 1/8-scale PLA body with a custom neck size. His poseability rivals my resin dolls (he easily sits cross-legged), and he stands very well despite having an arch to his soles.
I took a risk on this body and I'm quite happy with the result! It is slightly skinnier than and about as tall as the Dollmore Idoll body, which is sometimes paired with a Soo head. (I didn't want to buy the Idoll as the body isn't sold apart from the head, and I would feel bad having an unwanted head lying around...)
Also, our resident babysitter happened to still be in hanfu, and I was too lazy to re-dress him XD

Dolly rambles Feb 2020
...why yes, the resident babysitter is still in hanfu. XD I've been reluctant to change him out after all the effort of getting him into it. Regardless, he's been tending to baby Soo with aplomb. *approves*
(Side note, the round-collared robe he's wearing stays in place and stands up to being moved around much better than the cross-collared robes Tatsue is in, which tend to slip off the shoulders at the slightest nudge.)
Some BJD stuff I've been looking forward to recently - the release of Guardlove's much-hyped Yo-SD-like 4th-gen body; kindergarten's in-stock release of her 醒醒Xingxing head; receiving the 2D Doll and Akagidoll bodies I have on order; making some cute ribbon-tie sandals; getting a better wig and eyes for Soo, and coming up with a name for him.
I'm also thinking of (finally) learning to knit! I really like knitwear on my dolls but have always been a little afraid of picking it up myself - it’s a different skill set from what I’m used to. I'm hoping one can jump straight into knitting at doll scale, as I did with dressmaking. If anyone has any good links or tutorials to recommend for an absolute beginner, feel free to throw them out there~
Credits: Shiina a.k.a. Resident Babysitter is a Volks MSD Hewitt, circa 2003. Soo is a Soo Smile by Mia, circa 2019, on a Daisy BJD 1/8-scale body with custom neck size.

A Chibi Unoa/MiniFee hybrid in a world of MSD’s and Yo-SD’s
When I first embarked on this project, my aim was to end up with a doll that would (1) have a MiniFee Niella head (I fell for him hard), (2) be around 31-36cm in height, and (3) be in scale with both Volks MSD and Volks Yo-SD (my point of reference simply because my existing crew at the time was entirely Volks MSD or Yo-SD).
I was pretty nervous when I started because I had never done any major modifications before. After much asking around (and receiving some lovely helpful replies!) and extensive research, plus one failed attempt, I am satisfied with the result you see above beside my Volks MSD Hewitt, Shiina, and my Yo-SD Anne, Laurie. ^-^
The customisation I did to get this hybrid working to my satisfaction is as follows:
Trim down the flared top of the Chibi Unoa neck (details click here)
Acquire a resin “donut” so that the S-hook could sit inside the MNF head without slipping out
Pad the neck cavity of the MNF head with hot glue to improve posing, especially when looking downward, as the head has a gaping neck/ lower jaw cavity that can swallow up the neck (I had purchased epoxy but eventually opted for hot glue as I didn’t want to permanently mod the head)
Suede the shoulder sockets (lower half only) and the hip sockets (full coverage) with pliver, to improve posing stability - highly recommended as the vanilla body, while pretty, is annoying to pose
I’m pleased to report that the shoulder sueding doesn’t impair one of the Chibi Unoa’s charming features, which is the ability to tuck the upper arms very close to the torso (there is a slight depression in the torso sides to facilitate this). I did also test-suede one knee, but I don’t think it is necessary. The chest and elbow joints work well without sueding as long as elastic tension is correct.
Wrist mobility is alright and the default hands are beautifully sculpted even if there aren’t many option hands (I plan to test other companies’ option hands with this body). Ankle mobility isn’t great but at least he can point his toes. His feet have arched soles and so he is a little harder to stand than a flat-footed doll. (I am working on custom footwear for him which I’ll post about soon!)
I hope this post helps anyone who might want to make a similarly sized doll. The only other body which I think might work for such a hybrid is the Narsha body, and I do still want to acquire one of those to try out, since I’m pretty likely to end up with a friend for this new boy at some point. :-D
(Please excuse his shirt-lessness, I have yet to begin sewing for him! His wig is from Kaka BJD (I changed him into the 7-8″ size of this wig as it made him look more proportionate to Shiina), eyes from an unknown Japanese dealer, black “shorts” are Volks MSD boxer briefs. Shiina’s wig is a Kemper Nikki (dyed), eyes are Volks HG Smoke Olive B., shirt unknown and shorts from Volks. Laurie’s wig is by Josephina di Venetia and her outfit is by me.)

Of D Garnet
So, Bluefairy is having a pre-order for a head from a Korean sister company known as “Of D”. A Google search turned up next to nothing on it, except that it used to market its sculpts via the now-defunct Minoruworld. I have never heard of the company before, but then I did absent myself from the hobby for about a decade, and it may have been more active during that period.
Garnet is apparently a 5″ head with a 6.4cm neck circumference, originally designed to go on a slender/ mature 32cm body. o_O I’m finding this a little hard to wrap my head around (no pun intended), as that neck size is around the same as my various Yo-SD-sized heads, which are all about 6.5″ to 7″ in size.
Since I don’t care for mature-style bodies, what body would I even put this head on? It ought to be shorter than my existing Yo-SD bodies, since the head is a full inch smaller, but with a similar neck size....
Any suggestions would be appreciated! I really like this head as it reminds me very much of the classic Angelregion Little Fair and Bluefairy aesthetic, but in an interesting new size~
