Moon Song
Lottie Matthews x Natalie Scatorccio x Fem!Reader
—-
sypnosis: Running wild under the full moon, your veins on fire, your brain foggy- nothing bad can happen in the wilderness. Not tonight, not when you feel so good and the moon is so bright. Hazy, the line between secrets and reality fades, leaving you and your two best friends to face the truth of what you’ve all been feeling- running wild under the full moon.
a/n: idk why the title is another phoebe bridgers song and also THIS IS SO SHORT NOOOOO but anyways i hope you all enjoy!!
warnings: drugs, hallucinations, kinda sex idk, kissing, mentions of death, blood, swearing, tell me if i missed anything!!
—-
The moon was hanging over the sky like a giant beacon. Your back to the forest floor, you kept reaching up like baby, confused when you couldn’t run your fingers over the craters, the imperfect perfectness of it all.
You weren’t sure where anyone else was, where you were. You just wanted to touch the moon and feel it on your skin, so much that you sat up. You could feel dirt in your clothes, under your fingernails, everywhere. You reached out, but still, you fell short.
“Where is everyone?” someone finally groans, and you almost shriek, before remembering that it’s doomcoming. You’re all out here.
“Coach is gone,” someone else groans.
“He was sad,” and you recognize this voice. You look to your left and see Natalie slumped against a tree branch. “I… I think I saw him take some drinks and go to the woods.”
“Misty’ll find him,” Akilah groans, and a faint smile finds it way onto your face.
“Nat,” you smile, and she looks around, untik her eyes finally land on you.
“Hi,” she whispers.
“What-what about Jackie?” Mari asks. “And… T-Travis?”
You drag yourself closer to the tree trunk, giggling slightly as she wraps her hands around your wrists, tugging you forward until you’re inching like a worm to be next to her.
“They left,” Javi says, almost bored. You stare up the moon, feeling your back arch with the curve of the tree trunk, Natalie’s body pressed right up against yours.
You feel a little out of your mind.
“T-together?” Shauna sputters in disbelief.
“That’s so Jackie,” Tai hisses.
“That’s very Jackie,” Van agrees.
You look around, finding everyone either laying on the ground or slumped against something, looking like they’ve just run a hundred miles. You spit Lottie sitting in a hollow tree trunk, cut a few feet up, still standing.
You look back up to moon.
You barely know what’s happening, but at least Natalie and Lottie are here.
“What… are they doing?” Javi asks, and it takes you a second to remember that he’s only 14, of course he wouldn’t know what they’re doing.
A few of the girls let out small laughs.
“They’re having sex,” Van whispers, and everyone erupts into laughter. You look over at Lottie, wanting to share in this joy with her as Nat’s hand presses against your thigh.
But she’s not laughing. She’s staring at the ground, hard in thought.
“You’re being boring, Lottie,” you say, but your voice only comes out a whisper. No one can hear you. But Lottie looks over at you.
Her eyes rake over all the exposed skin showing on you and Natalie, on her hand on your thigh, on the berry alcohol sticky on your chest.
“What are we waiting for?” she asks, a little louder than she needs too, losing her mind as well.
“Huh?” a few of the girls mumble.
She stands up, swaying a bit, her crown of sticks looking like antlers.
“This is Doomcoming,” she breathes. “Doomcoming. If we’re all gonna die soon….” she looks at you and Natalie. “We should do whatever the fuck we want.”
A few of the girls laugh, and you watch Shauna bite her lip, crossing her legs and smiling to herself. Tai and Van turn to each other, laughing and talking in low whispers, before they start to tug each other up.
“We should,” Natalie breathes from next to you. Her hand slides higher. “We should do whatever the fuck we want.”
You don’t even remember how her hand came to be on you, but it feels so good and right that it’s almost bad that something can be this amazing. You smile and throw your head back. The moon shines brightly over the clearing, bathing all of you in a soft, silky glow, singing some sweet song about living before you died.
You turn to Natalie, and if you squint, her pale skin and the low light makes her look like the moon.
Lottie kicks your ass. Softly, but enough to make you jolt and sit up, noticing that Taissa and Van are giggling and heading off into the forest together.
“What the fuck was that for?” you groan.
Lottie stares at you blankly. “Come,” is all she says, looking between you and Nat.
Lottie towers over both of you, and even like this, she looks like the moon too.
“Okay,” you mutter, because she’s your best friend and you want to spend time with her.
Natalie and Lottie have never been close, but they both love you, and they get along for your sake. But in the wilderness, all of you have known, however subconsciously, that you might die out here. You would never go to college. You would never get married or fulfill anything you ever wanted to do in the real world.
But here, in the wilderness where the moon is singing her encouragement, and your mind is hazy- you can do whatever the fuck you want.
You can give into the way hands have always lingered a second too long, eyes have always roamed, scents had always been so intoxicating.
You stand up, dusting yourself off, feeling a little giddy.
Lottie turns and starts walking, leaving Javi and the other girls in the clearing behind. Natalie shrugs after she stands up, and you both end up following her, deeper into the woods, until she’s just a whisp of white dress flashing between the thick twisting trees, and Natalie is just footsteps that are close and far at the same time, people you can’t clearly see but presences you can truly feel.
Finally, Lottie’s face comes back into view coming towards you fast, until she’s all you can see.
Her hands are sliding up and down your arms, and you don’t even know when she got close enough to share breath with you.
She’s taking your breath away with her lips on yours, so shocked you can’t even breathe. Shocked because you’ve wanted this for so long and it’s even better than you ever could have imagined.
Someone starts laughing next to you.
Lottie pulls away after a moment.
Her eyes are slightly glazed over, but burning with a raging fire, and even her eyes look like little moons. Your reach out and let your fingertips fall down her cheek like tears, trace your fingers along the moon.
“Oh,” Natalie breathes, smiling widely, and you realize it was her who was laughing. “Thank God,” she says, and Lottie let’s go of you, spinning you around, her arms still around you-
Natalie’s lips on yours are so different and yet the same.
She tastes like thrill and fire, black smoke in the air, filling up your lungs in such an addicting way it makes you want to walk straight into a fire.
Lottie tastes like that same thrill, but like the bright white water at the bottom of a rapids rather than smoke. Filling up your lungs in that same way, drowning you in that same addicting way. You want to plunge headfirst off of a waterfall.
Natalie’s lips leave yours, leaving you confused and hot all over, watching as she leans around you and presses her lips to Lottie’s. You can’t see from this way, Natalie’s chest pressed against yours and Lottie keeping you pressed against her.
You let your head fall back.
“What are we doing?” you breathe, and it takes a second for the sound of them pulling away to hit your ears. Lottie let’s you go, and you disentangle yourself from them, spinning around to stare at both of them.
The moon shines down in this clearing too, bathing everything in that same soft, silky glow- making everyone look like their own moon.
Lottie smiles for the first time all night, her canines flashing in the low light.
“Whatever the fuck we want.”
She stares at you like she’s hungry and you have to swallow, feeling hot, feeling like there’s a second heart in between your legs, beating with a steady pulse fueled by wanton desire.
And you know what you want. You know what you want and you know this is the last time to get it.
A hand slips under your Doomcoming dress, and you throw your head back, eyes closed, too busy being in bliss to look at the moon.
The night fades into the savagery and wildness that only knowing this could be your last night alive could be.
A tongue traces up your neck, up your chest, drinking up the dried berry alcohol, leaving your skin wet and sticky.
It’s ingrained into your veins forever, into your fingers and legs, pockmarked by where their hands touched you, invisible and burning in an addictive way.
Lips meet you, every part of you, places you didn’t even know existed, all brought out by them.
The light of the moon, the feeling between your legs like an exploding moon, and your fingers tracing over a million moons, a million faces, until the sun comes up.
You feel like water and smoke in their hands, you feel like a moon orbiting around her planets.
And when the sun comes up, and your minds aren’t hazy anymore, and you realize now that you’ll survive another day… you don’t stop, and choose to be in their hands instead.

moss’ notes. THANK YOU SO MUCH STELLA 💓😸 !!! moss really loves shauna vayne and can’t help but feel like that grumpy lady would be almost on her death bed to admit she feels anything close to love for you *shakes head*
Tumblr media
you took a place next to shauna’s laying form on the bed, hands dipping into a basin filled with hot water before leaning down to begin cleaning her face. you try to not to miss a spot and cause lady vayne have to have a bath with all the little cut spread across her skin. as you lean closer, struggling to see the smallest dots of blood on her skin your face was so close to yours that you could smell the sweet rosy fragrance of the sherry she had drank for the pain while you were threading her wounds shut.
it wasn’t polite to stare at the lady like this, wondering where her skin would crease when she smiled. would she look as content as she looks right now under a sleeping spell or maybe brighter, happier, younger? what would her smile be like? tight with her lips pressed together, or would it be an ear-to-ear kind, or perhaps just big enough to show the tips of her teeth? would her lips hurt because they are chapped and salty as the wind dried it, or feel comfortable because they are soft and sweet like biting into a peach?
as you cleaned her chin your finger slipped onto her lips, eyes focusing as they twitch the slightest of the sudden content. you will regret this, maybe you’ll never as you lean further and place your lips over hers. it’s nothing more than a peck, a still and otherwise very child-like kiss everyone experienced in kindergarten at least once. feverishly you get up from the sheets, spilling the water on the plants on the terrace that opened from the room before gather everything in it, hoping to get out of there before the lady stirred.
“did you just kiss me?”
her voice was slurry, low, and raspy just like one expect hers to be after waking. shauna’s grip that was holding you back from leaving the room wasn’t so strong, you could have easily escaped from it while murmuring to her to go back to sleep but strangely you didn’t. you put the white basin down before taking a seat on the bed, lady vayne already sitting up and starring at you.
opening your mouth to complain, somehow attempting to shoo away the situation you put yourself in, head turning but before your eyes could land on the other side of the door shauna’s tongue was in your mouth. so instantaneous and urgent was that tongue, plunged like some writhing sea-shape into your gaping maw. it was raw and sloppy, drool escaping on the corner of your lips, eyes closing as the huntress dominates the situation expertly.
“lady vayne…” you huff after she leaves you to take a breath, sounding so selfish and desperate for more. she nods, the corner of her mouth turning into a small smile while her palms warmed your jaw line, her eyes searching for yours in the dim room.
vayne pulled you down with her onto your side, cradling your head with her arms and pulling it on her chest. she babbled something that sounded close to goodnight, but you couldn’t be sure because of the rustling of the blanket as she dragged it on top of you cut it into only sounds.
“tell me this is not a fragment of my sick imagination, let it not be the alcohol and the pain making my head this muddled.” you only chuckle at her poetic words, your own hands caressing the sides of her neck before whispering for her not to worry, that what is happening is very real.
soft, sweet, bitter, and plump…

🤍💌 (can i pls have an excerpt for the WIP if i promise to stop sending sad lottienat edits in bookclub)
uuhhHHH idk i guess "Down By The Lake", i just had so many lottielee feels and hadn't slept in like over 30 hours and that's what my mind produced LMFAO
and hhmmmmmm...i guess i can do that for you :P but also never stop i live to cry over lottienat
Natalie looks from Jackie to Lottie, to Laura Lee. “Someone tell me what the fuck is going on, right now.”
This time, it’s Lottie who speaks, and it surprises everyone in the circle. “It’s in all of us,” she repeats, sounding giddy. Her voice turns suddenly dark despite the smile still plastered on her face. “Even him, even you.”
Natalie takes a step backwards and Laura Lee watches as fear overtakes her as well. She doesn’t understand why they’re all afraid of Lottie-- the taller girl would never hurt any of them. This obviously wasn’t her. Something was happening to her but Laura Lee wasn’t going to let it take her away. Lottie was special, Lottie was chosen. She was holy and Laura Lee would bow at her feet if it meant proving to everyone else that she was no one to balk at, no one to fear.
“Nat,” Laura Lee says, finally releasing Lottie. That was, apparently, a mistake. The girl races forward, towards Natalie, too fast for anyone around them to register, especially Natalie herself. Lottie’s hand snags Natalie’s wrist and tugs the smaller girl into her, wrapping her free arm around Natalie’s waist to hold her in place.
“He isn’t important,” Lottie says to Natalie, who is struggling her hardest to keep the anger on her face. No one else moves. “We don’t need him. It doesn’t need him.” Natalie jerks against Lottie’s grip but the taller girl is much stronger than her. “You don’t need him.”
That’s apparently the last straw. Natalie is instantly sobered up and she shoves Lottie roughly, causing the taller girl to let go of her and stumble backwards, falling onto her ass. Lottie erupts in loud giggles again.
“That’s enough of your weird bullshit, Lottie!” Natalie cries out, rounding on the girl. Laura Lee moves, then, too, and stands between the other blonde girl and the brunette on the ground. “Move,” Natalie growls, fists curling.
Laura Lee shakes her head, stands up taller, jutting her chin out. She’s taller than Natalie, but only by a little bit. Still, she gazes at her down the bridge of her nose. “Leave it, Natalie,” she tells her, and it’s the strongest and most present Laura Lee has felt in weeks. “You wouldn’t understand what’s going on with her.”
Natalie looks like she wants to shove Laura Lee, too, but her eyes flick so quickly to her burns before returning to her gaze that Laura Lee almost thinks she imagined it. But she didn’t. Natalie grits her teeth as hard as she is gritting her fists. “Whatever it is you think you know is going on,” she says, then, low enough to where Laura Lee is pretty sure only she and Lottie can hear her clearly, “you don’t. You might be Lottie’s knight in shining armor out here, but some of us cared before she became--” Natalie gestures wildly at the laughing girl on the ground-- “this.”
And because it’s Natalie and she can’t just leave well enough alone, she makes sure to bump Laura Lee’s shoulder as she strides off in the direction Jackie had pointed out Travis left in.
Things don’t feel any better than they had a moment ago, but Laura Lee lets out a long breath, sinking to her knees beside Lottie. “Lottie,” she says, reaching out for her. She feels as if she’s losing her and she sees Jackie marching off in the corner of her eye as Shauna stands like a statue next to the stump that was now an altar. “Lottie…come back to bed with me, please.”
Lottie just laughs some more, laying flat on her back and spreading her limbs out to form a star shape. “She’ll see,” Lottie says, that grin pulling onto her face, crooked and drunk, “she’ll see I’m right. Soon enough.” She’s nodding to herself as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Soon enough.”

Fragmented bus service market emerges as Greyhound exits Western Canada Oct. 31
CALGARY — A hodge-podge of public transportation services are already starting to fill the gap as Greyhound Canada moves steadily towards its midnight Halloween disappearance from most of Western Canada.
The venerable national motor coach operator is being replaced by a mix of provincial government-subsidized services, Indigenous-owned bus lines, locally owned startups, flexible fleets of shuttle buses and a scattering of formal and informal ride-sharing services.
And passengers aren’t waiting for the last Greyhound next Wednesday to check out new options — according to Stuart Kendrick, senior vice-president of Greyhound Canada, ticket sales have already fallen off to the point that some route frequencies are being reduced.
“Demand is quite low as we run into this last week or 10 days,” he said in a recent interview.
“You’ve got single-digit riderships on the schedule that we have left throughout Western Canada, so that’s probably about a 50 or 60 or 70 per cent decline based on what corridor you look at.”
The company plans to stop selling tickets on long-distance routes a few days before the buses stop running to help ensure passengers aren’t left stranded and holding the unused half of a two-way ticket, Kendrick said.
The loss of Greyhound spells opportunity for Regina-based Rider Express, a company that began operating a handful of 15-passenger minibuses on inner-provincial routes shortly after government-owned Saskatchewan Transportation Company shut down its bus services in the spring of 2017.
Rider has acquired five full-sized 50-seat buses and plans to begin passenger service on a Vancouver-Calgary-Winnipeg route on the Trans-Canada Highway this week, followed in November by a Highway 16 route linking Edmonton and Saskatoon, said manager Shauna Hardy. Both routes will directly replace Greyhound routes.
The interest from Saskatchewan residents has been “overwhelming,” she said, adding the company is being asked to take on more routes but has so far declined.
Late last May, Calgary-based Pacific Western Transportation was hired by the province of British Columbia to operate its BC Bus North service after Greyhound cancelled service to communities including Prince Rupert and Dawson Creek.
Greyhound’s announcement in July that it would exit almost all of Western Canada convinced the company to offer its own inter-city services in B.C. for the first time, said John Stepovy, director of business development. He added the company is also expanding its Alberta offerings.
He said he thinks his company can provide the hub in a hub-and-spoke business model as Greyhound closes — it’s already in discussions with operators of small-scale shuttle bus and transit operators about establishing connections with his firm’s routes.
“Overall, long-term, where the needs are, where there’s demand, we would anticipate voids will be filled but it could take a little bit of time for those things to shake out once the landscape changes,” Stepovy said.
“Discount airlines coming in will probably take on some of that longer-haul (Greyhound demand),” he said. “For bus travel, That one-to-five/six-hour travel time is kind of in the sweet spot.”
He added “disruptors” — new travel options such as Poparide, an app that matches passengers with drivers who happen to be going to the same destinations — are also expected to fill the gap.
Indigenous-owned charter service Kelsey Bus Lines is being renamed Mahihkan Bus Lines and has announced plans to offer daily passenger routes from Thompson and Flin Flon in northern Manitoba to Winnipeg, as well as freight service.
In Alberta, the provincial government has launched pilot programs at a cost of $2.8 million to help five rural municipalities start inter-city bus services. One, centred on Camrose, about 100 kilometres south of Edmonton, has already started and the others are expected to begin over the next three months.
The fragmented inter-city transportation model that is emerging can be a positive change, said Barry Prentice, professor of transportation economics at the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business.
Greyhound likely failed in Western Canada in part because its costs were too high and it lacked the flexibility to respond to changing markets because it carried freight as well as passengers, he said.
“As long as they were in the market, it was hard for anyone else to come in. Now that they’re gone, it creates an opportunity,” he said.
Most new services are planning to pick up and drop off passengers at hotels, gas stations or tourist information centres. Prentice said that means they won’t be burdened with the costly terminal network Greyhound had to maintain.
Kendrick said shutting down all routes from northern Ontario to the West Coast involves a “significant cost’ to Greyhound Canada.
He said it’s expected to take several months to sublet its leased real estate and sell its few owned facilities, which include maintenance shops in centres such as Edmonton, Red Deer, Prince Rupert, Prince George and Winnipeg.
The company is laying off about 420 employees. It will move 70 or 80 of its 110 western buses to its ongoing operations in Eastern Canada and sell or scrap the rest.
A Seattle-Vancouver route operated by Greyhound U.S. will continue to use a Vancouver terminal leased by the Canadian arm. Kendrick said the company plans to ask other bus companies to come in as tenants to fill unused capacity there.
