v-force episode 5!
happy sunday! it’s real beyblade hours so you know what that means >:)
the episode is called “guess who’s back in town!” i swear to GOD if it’s not kai. idk what i’ll do. but it’ll be something
wait the boat sank?? after it “mysteriously caught on fire???” tyson did that last episode there’s no mystery
Tumblr media
this frame is ART. the fact that the room doesn’t even look like a bedroom? the weird proportions? the fucking cpu blanket with the god-awful perspective? im being a little hyperbolic but man kenny i think you need more furniture. maybe a rug
also five minutes in and the faces in this episode. hooooo. giving me real 2000 episode 47 vibes and that’s not a good thing
Tumblr media
THEY’RE SO TINY!!!! THEY’RE SO TINY AND FOR WHAT?? the designs are cute though i will give them that. kai’s still absolutely balling with the crop top. it’s what he deserves
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA THERE HE IS!!!!! THERE HE IS!!!!!!!!! THAT’S MY BOY!!!!!!!!
“he [kai] won the beyblade world championships but does that make him any better?!” yeah that’s. that’s kind of the point isn’t it? i get what they’re trying to say. but still
“he [kai] doesn’t have our natural good looks!” sir i know of several people who would heartily disagree with you. you’re background characters don’t forget it
Tumblr media
wait this is WYATT??? doesn’t he die later on i feel like that’s what i’ve heard. i hope i’m wrong he seems like a nice kid
also how does kai keep ending up in these creepy locales? first the abbey and now this weird prep school. who’s doing this to him i just want to chat
so there’s Another Guy™ now huh. sure hope kai has dranzer in his pocker or smth otherwise this might not end well
KAI QUIT BEYBLADING????? why on earth would you do that. and like i know he’s not going not beyblade bc. why else would he be here but i would like an explanation
Tumblr media
ohhh he’s got the Protagonist Window Seat™... wonder what fun hijinks he’ll get up to
he’s got a whole room for his trophies???? at the prep school??? since when????? how much time has passed since the end of 2000? granted i guess that doesn’t really matter bc it’s looking like we’re getting a whole new cast of characters but still
WYATT STOLE DRANZER. why. how. i know the why but how. did he pickpocket kai?? maybe i missed it
“sorry kai. i can’t [give you back dranzer].” YES YOU CAN?? HE’S RIGHT THERE?? just give kai dranzer and let him fight what is this kid’s deal. “oh im fighting in kai’s place” well kai’s HERE now so you don’t have to???
“how come he’s [dranzer] not listening to me?!” BC HE’S NOT YOUR BITBEAST?? AND IT’S NOT YOUR BLADE? what is wyatt even trying to accomplish here i don’t get it. like he’s going to lose. that’s just that. how is this going to get kai back into beyblading??? like for all we know this other guy could be absolute garbage but bc wyatt’s worse he looks great by comparison. not really taking a shine to wyatt here i won’t lie
oh kai’s laughing manically after he loses. that’s more like it. that’s the kai im used to. love the fact that they’re just looping the same 3 second clip of him laughing as the camera pans out. really adds to the scene
final thoughts: okay i don’t know if it was the animation that was just. not great all around or the fact that i really don’t like wyatt but this episode did not do it for me. i am THRILLED to see kai again. don’t get me wrong. i’m very chuffed he’s come back to us
at the same time, i feel like i’m watching a completely different set of characters than 2000. i think part of it’s the art style, part of it’s the weird characterization (at least i think it’s weird) of tyson and kai (kai more so, but this is only his first episode). granted this is after he’s gone through the development of 2000 but i don’t think they’ve done a great job of carrying that development through to v-force. again it’s only the first episode with kai in it and i would love to have my mind changed later on but right now i’m not a fan.

do u !!! have any character theme songs for the troop boys? Like any songs you think really fits them (and why u think it fits)?
THATS A GREAT QUESTION!!
Before I get into it Im going to plug this collaborative Troop Playlist on Spotify, feel free to add onto it!! Continuing with my picks
I think a lot of the songs I associate with The Troop in general are just because I happened to listen to them around the same time I got into the book in the first place (So they could only be tangentially related BUT only if you squint hard) Example: Drunk by The Living Tombstone, cant really tie it into the story but in my mind its linked Some better, more fitting songs under the cut (Side note its LONGGG IM SORRY... Also its all YouTube links because some of these arent on Spotify :'^()
Disclaimer -Like 95% of my choices arent really a "These lyrics match up exactly 1 to 1" but more of an overall "the vibe/general idea its trying to capture lines up" type thing. If that makes sense.
Its Alright by Jack Stauber: Kind of self explanatory, I think its a perfect song for these guys. From "It's alright, I'm here, Everything's alright, Feels weird but calm, I wanna hear It's alright" to the whole sound of it- its all great. Equal parts distressing and sad with an almost eerie calmness to it. Despite it all theyre gonna be alright, right?
The Second Little Piggy by Worthikids: Another one that I think is sort of self explanatory- at least with the chorus. "If my brain turns to mush, If the shit hits the fan, Will you be my friend?" Kind of the falling apart of everything, specifically their relationships, in light of the incident.
Poor George by James Supercave: Another case of "listened to at the same time I read the book" BUT I was actually making a Troop PMV script with that song. I never finished it but maybe Ill revisit it... just for you
Cold Summer by Le Matos ft Computer Magic: I dont even think this takes place in the summer but the VIBES and also it came from Summer of 84, which is another good piece of murder boy media.
Treehouse by Alex G ft Emily Yacina: This is a Eef and Max type of song because they are bffs and thats final. Basic song because Im not creative, but I think its a nice heart to heart theyd have (with Eef doing the talking)
Fifteen Minuets by Nick Krol: On the flipside heres a song that goes with Eef and Maxs friendship fracturing, once again more from Eefs side than Maxs. THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTINGGG
As far as songs for the boys as individuals hmmm thats a good one that I havent thought about as much...
MAX + The Ghosts by The Real Tuesday Weld: That survivors guilt... lyrics arent like a perfect match but I think it gets that sort of hollow feeling across. Hes haunted man... + Final Girl by Electric Youth: Ok its a little funny because har har Final Girl Trope but I mean HE IS ONE. ANd dont look at me its a nice song- "Others were gone, and you kept going on, You know they never really noticed, you were always different, One by one, They're all done, And you're the last one standing" + Going Grazy by Lonesome Wyatt and the Holy Spooks: HONESTLY this could go for all the characters but Im tagging it onto Max because hes the one who has to deal with the aftermath of losing everyone (sorry survivors guilt Max again </3) "Everyone's saying my mind is unsound, 'Cause I always see you when you aren't around" "They're gonna wrap me in a jacket of white, And lock me away in a room without light" is what cements it as a Max song for me
EEF + The Existential Threat by Sparks: Once again starting sad, I link this one specifically to his paranoia about the worms- especially with lines like "Can't they see the existential threat is on its way". Kind of exasperated no one else can see the danger (he thinks) hes in. + Wrecking Ball by Mother Mother: I know I know its basic but I cant help it!!! Eef anger issues arc we are shaking hands me too + Haunted by Laura Les: Eef struggles with people seeing him as "just like his father" and I think we can get some good angst out of this track if we keep that in mind. Especially the back half of the song with lyrics like "Do you think I'm frightening?" and "Mirrors shatter when I'm passing, broken glass and crashing" since he is just a reflection of his dad (to others at least). Also song good.
KENT + Goodbye Mr A by The Hoosiers: Mfw the disillusionment with authority sets in. I think the vibe fits when he had that little epiphany about how adults are fucked- not perfect but it gets the idea across me thinks. + I'm Gonna Win by Rob Cantor: Ties into his need to "win" aka be the best at everything, be in charge, all that jazz! Hell do whatever it takes to be successful, even if it hurts. That was a little emo + Toba the Tura by Forgive Durden ft Chris Conley: Not to be emo again but "They say you're gifted, well I just see a scared kid. They must have flipped it, your skills are latent. O, you snuffed the glow. Replaced it with coals. Threw away the throne... This mess that you've made, it's a six-foot grave. It's a home for your lonesome bones that remain. We'll disappear, but you'll stay here to rot" AND SO ON AND SO FOURTH representing his fall after it was revealed he was sick. He was referred to as "the uncrowned king" and was on top of the world but then POOF that all crumbled and it was made out that he basically deserved what happened to him. It would be fun to make a pmv of him with this song (Simplifying my thoughts a bit because Ive already written a LOT)
NEWT + I Earn My Life by Lemon Demon: Ok a little Kentcore but Im actually having a hard time coming up with songs for Newton so here we are, they can share. Newt existential crisis moment time I guess + Know How by The Crane Wives: POV Newt struggles with going through with the plans he makes to keep everyone safe (stopping Max from touching Kent, going back into the cabin, etc) "I am not brave, I am not brave, I keep my focus on what is safe, You drew a line, made up your mind, And now I'm struggling to realize" And also maybe struggling with his place in the group and as a person in general- all that living through his cousin thing. "I gotta wrap my head around, What my heart is telling me, I've been trying to drown it out, Just because I know what I am, I am supposed to do now, Doesn't mean I know, Doesn't mean I know how" + On The Outside by Oingo Boingo: Idk man. Hes on the outside lookin in!! Loner nerd!! Its ok though, we still love him
SHEL + Bad Blood by Creature Feature: The lyrics speak for themselves: "I can guarantee I will do evil things, The only way that you can stop me now, Is if you put me in the ground, Somewhere I'll never be found" + Frontier Psychologist by The Avalanches: Hinges on the fact that the principal or whoever was like "Your sons a freak" and Shels mom was like "HES PERFECTLY FINE" while Shelley was like dismembering an animal or something + Johnny by American Murder Song: The songs good but theres this ONE LYRIC that sucks so the link provided is an edited version and also a lovely Warriors oc video I think you should all enjoy and support <3 Anyway Shel would be Johnny I could see this song being a scene in the book. Field trip to Shels house and they find his murder garden
If anyone wants more for Im not opposed to making another post :^)

big thots on loser club members?
i’m gonna assume this is just like general onions soooo lets go clowns
eddie kaspbrak: i love this mf anxiety ridden gay gremlin comedy king so much....... rlly hate fanon’s interpretation boiling him down to a soft uwu babie cinnamon roll when he’s so complex and multifaceted and literally one of the bravest characters, not just against IT but against his abusive mother. He’s a rage filled lil shit but GOD LIKEKEKEKKDKK he is so fucking loyal and loves his friends so much it makes my heart burst. Has some of the best lines in the movie and like all his little ramblings and idiosyncrasies just make him feel so real and 🥺 . Ugh I will die for HIMMMMMMMMM like 🥺🥺🥺 (sorry for roasting u so much in he’s all that😞 i swear it’s out of love) (but speaking of GAY HAT!!!!!!)
richie tozier: this stoner bicon,,,,, king of hawaiian shirts,,,,, probably the character i relate most to (other than eddie but then again i feel like we all project on them so NXNXNNXNX). He’s just SO fucking dumb and funny but underneath it theres rlly just some sad ass shit like lemme hug u..... no dont breathe on me u smell but i will still hug u....... honestly deserves to get his shit rocked a couple times in the movie but we still love him✨ literally a legend like who else has the range of stealing marching band instruments and calling a demon clown a crackhead before bashing its brains?
bill denbrough: WHY!!! DO!!!! Y’ALL!!! HATE!!!! HIM!!!!! I don’t get it like yes bill rarely has the group braincell but he rlly does love his friends. He is sympathetic and always sees the best in people. He protects his friends. He is a FASHION. ICON. Jorts king. I love that he adores his friends but i also love when he’s silently judging them when they’re being dumb as shit like the face he makes is so funny dncncn. His story is so SO depressing and makes me just fucking bawl every single time. Bill’s emo ass already hates himself enough stop it y’all.
beverly marsh: queen. Absolute queen. She is such a badass bitch and really deserves SO much better. Her interactions with men were scarier than any scene with pennywise. Other than mike she is probably the most well balanced character as in, yeah shes dumb sometimes but shes usually p logical and kind and generous. i love how sentimental she is, how she keeps the poems and the princess and the frog playbill, etc she just deserves such more love. Hella brave i just love herrrrr
stanley uris: tbh i always liked stan but wasn’t quite as like Love You King until my last rewatch a few weeks ago,,,,,, it rlly just clicked for me. like he is so over everyone and deadpan and hilarious in a subtle way that eddie and richie are not and i made me love him sm. (Awful timing, considering, you kno). His bar mitzvah scene deSERVED TO BE IN THE FINAL CUT but wyatt said something abt him having a monologue in chapter 2 so👀. The scene where stanley is yelling that they left him alone and they aren’t his friends is literally so fucking sad and breaks me every time. Love u funky vampire weekend prep bird loving gay.
mike hanlon: AHHHHH OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THE SEROTONIN RUSH I FEEL THINKING OF HIMMMMMMM. mike is so kind and gentle and amazing like are u kidding. Im still angry we didnt see more of him in chapter one (and that they gave parts of his story to ben) but hopefully he has a bigger role in chapter two. I love how much he loves his friends and wants to hold onto them forever. I love that he doesnt want to cause any harm in this world. He deserves more love and recognition in this fandom.
ben hanscom: admittedly, he’s probably the loser im the least !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Over but i still do enjoy him, it just hard for me to get a grasp on who he is bc part of him is just.... mike lmao. (He also has the least loud personality tho but thats a good thing with all these bitches NXNXKKCKC) However, GOD he is so soft and romantic its 🥺. I love that he’s a huge fucking nerd cnncnc and also the part where he fucking S C R E A M S during the rock war is iconic. Also he gave us p*nnywise calling him egg boy, the most important line in any movie ever.

How do you come to grips with a finale like that?
Or more so how do you cancel a show with a finale like that?? Being that I am still trying to process things, I'm just going to share my thoughts as they come to me. The General: 1) How much of a badass was Harriet Tubman in this episode? I mean I know she was in real life too, but wow great casting because Christina Horne was amazing! 2) Rufus and Harriet Tubman working together= gold!! I loved their dynamic and how she thought he was some kind of god send. 3) Jiya, I love her so much, but please don't make yourself go crazy like that other guy did. Also you are badass. 4) Wyatt, again I love him to death, but he is being an idiot. I get not wanting to believe your wife is a psychopath, but listen to your friends once in a while. 5) Lucy the take-no-prisoners and screw-the-patriarchy Preston, all I have to say to you is...you go girl!! After all the heartache she's endeared, she still manages to save the day. 6) The Lyatt hug...especially knowing now that it wasn't scripted and that Abby just did that...I don't have words other than it was much needed and I wanted more from that scene. 7) Jessica is fucking nuts and I still dont believe its Wyatt's kid or even if she is pregnant. Pregnant women typically don't run around with guns waving in the air. Also the math still does not add up. Chinatown: 1) No offense Wyatt, but you kind of deserved to go flying through the air. Although Rufus didn't need to go flying off the handle like that. 2) Jiya is a genius for figuring out how to get the Lifeboat back. Also the Timelines on this show seriously messes with my head. 1 day in the present can somehow equal 3 years in the past?? 3) I feel so bad for Lucy losing her mom that way. At least Carol died after trying to save her daughter, but good riddance Carol Preston. 4) Jessica as a villain is boring. Emma is entertaining and terrifying at the same time. You never know what she is going to do. Although I will never forgive her for killing Rufus. 5) Lucy/Flynn...sorry but if there is something between them, its one-sided. They are still better off as friends. 6) Emma and Lucy fighting...holy hell! Lucy gave as good as she got with the gun in hand. 7) Rufus cannot be dead. I refuse to believe it. They have to save him. We need a god damn season 3. 8) My heart fucking broke so hard for Jiya. Also for Wyatt having his best friend die right in front of him, while having to tell his arch nemesis to go help the woman he loves 💔 9) Mason being there for Jiya...💗 10) Lucy and Wyatt...that scene was just too beautiful. I knew Wyatt would be the one to confess first. And then Lucy telling him that Rufus dying was not his fault...so many feelings! Also you can tell she was about to say I love you back, but they got interrupted by the new lifeboat and none other than themselves 😂 11) I absolutely love the prospect of where season 3 could be taking us. I love the idea of them working to save Rufus along with future Lucy and Wyatt. Im going to assume by the look on Flynn's face that this is the Lucy he met in the bar in Sao Paulo. I also feel like Lyatt fans did get a bit of closure if, god forbid, they don't renew the show. We know, at the very least, they are still in each other's lives in the future, i'm going to believe we can assume they are together. They look good if not a little worse for wear, and a little like they belong on The Walking Dead. Abby was definitely looking a little like Lauren Cohan's character Maggie. I wonder what the future holds if they both look a little hardened and a little more like fighters as opposed to regular civilians?? I know people complained about Matt with a beard, but honestly, I'm not hating it on him. Anyways this show had better get picked up now. Also, I expect a thousand different fanfics now based on that ending, i even might work on one of my own.

72 for Bobo del Rey holy fucking tomatoes
FFN II AO3
Summary: Wyatt Earp gets a first-hand experience at just how much his friend Robert has changed since he last knew him.
Notes: One of the reasons I haven’t buckled down and written a multi chapter spec fic is that I have to many ideas. One of those is where Wyatt comes back and the team finds him. I was discussing part of that idea with someone and realized how well this little part would fit the prompt. So here we are. I don’t intend to have a resurrected Wyatt in any future one-shots (maybe? You never know. An AU to a little series of one shots that will eventually be AU?).
Writing Prompt #76 “You deserve so much better”
Deserve Better (Fallen Series)
They’d found him locked away in what was little more than a dungeon. How long he has been there, Wyatt really couldn’t say. It had been a blur of time. The one thing he was certain of was that it was Clootie’s doing. He would never forget that demon’s face.
Everything had happened so fast he had barely had time to process it. Three men had appeared at his cell door, one of which had been Doc Holliday. Wyatt had felt relief sweep through him as he pulled his old friend in. He was alive. How didn’t matter. Not anymore. Not after everything.
The second man in - a deputy marshal by the name of Dolls he found out - had hurried Doc along in getting Wyatt free. The third spoke in a low, almost strained voice when he announced that they weren’t alone and to get Wyatt out of there. He would meet up with them later. It hadn’t been until they had gotten out that they had explained that their third was a Revenant himself. The other Revenants couldn’t kill him even if they tried, so he was the one that got to buy them time. Wyatt never saw the Revenant’s face and he didn’t recognize the name that Doc called him by. Funny, he thought he remembered each of those that had been caught up in the curse.
Bobo Del Rey had kept tight control of most of the Revenants in Purgatory, so Wyatt learned. He had lost a lot of that when Clootie was resurrected, but he’d struck a deal with the current Heir and those still loyal to him were willing to help them put Clootie down in return for a free pass when all of this was over. Seemed like a fair enough deal. Or it would have been if they were still men and not demons.
And that was what had brought Wyatt Earp to this strange place with its high gates, guards armed with guns very different than the ones he was used to, and glowing red eyes side-eyeing him even as they let him in. He held his hands up as a sign of what he hoped was good faith. “I’m here to speak to Bobo Del Rey,” he declared. He just needed to know for himself who this creature really was. He needed to make sure his great great granddaughter wasn’t making a mistake that would cost her her life.
He made them nervous, that much was obvious. They wouldn’t make eye contact with him and answered any questions he asked in short sentences. He finally caught one Revenant’s eye, a thin smile quirking his lips at the way he shifted away when Wyatt called him by name.
Their mood seemed to change as another approached, and he looked about the right height for the Revenant that had been with Doc and Dolls earlier that day. Wyatt hadn’t gotten a good look at his face, but he would now, and hopefully he’d have a better idea what to expect. There were half a dozen outlaws he’d come up with that might have changed his name and taken over, and none of those former men instilled any sense of trust in him.
“Wyatt Earp,” that same deep voice from earlier greeted him as he approached. He was a sight with most of his hair shaved off his head except the strip of stark white hair, a single strip of black in it. He wore a heavy fur coat with buckles and straps, his shirt torn beneath it and his boots an odd style. Nothing like what Wyatt was accustomed to, but the world had certainly changed in the last ninety or so years.
It was those eyes that Wyatt recognized, and it felt like someone had dealt him a hard blow to the middle. He couldn’t draw a reasonable breath in as he stared. “Robert,” he managed with what remained of the air in his lungs and his friend stiffened a little at the name.
“Take a walk, boys,” he instructed the Revenants around them.
“But he-”
“You think I don’t know who he is? A man doesn’t forget the one that killed him.” Robert’s voice was cold. Somehow those blue eyes were sharper when they weren’t hidden behind his spectacles. “Plans haven’t changed tonight. Get to work.”
The Revenant Robert had directed the order to looked over to Wyatt. “You gonna have him take Carl over?”
Robert snorted. “Wyatt Earp? Wouldn’t want him to dirty up that conscious of his. I said I’d do it myself. Nothin’s changed.” The expression he wore looking so foreign on his features. Everything looked… off. It left Wyatt feeling a little sick. Like a monster wore his friend’s face. A demon.
The Revenants moved away to whatever business they were being sent on and Robert waited until they were out of earshot to turn back to meet Wyatt’s eyes. “Let me guess, Holliday sent you here without telling you who I was, hoping you’d catch me in the middle of something you’d hate.”
The words threw the gunslinger a moment. “I don’t think that was his intention,” he managed after a moment, but even he wouldn’t have believed himself and it certainly didn’t look like Robert did as he chuckled, flashing white teeth in a way that made him look strangely dangerous. He was, Wyatt reminded himself. He hadn’t escaped the curse.
“Oh, I think you and I both know better than that,” he murmured, something like amusement colouring his voice. “Hank gets his blows in where he can, and fighting for the same cause does limit him on the ones he can get away with these days.”
Wyatt had always known that the two men wouldn’t be close, but he’d hoped on some level they might be able to get past their differences. Apparently not.
He cleared his throat. “Well, at least I understand now why you were willing to side with Wynonna. I… I’d hoped that you might have escaped this curse-”
“Did you?” Robert tilted his head in question. “Because the good ol’ padre got me a set of letters you left for me explaining everything. Sure as hell looked like you knew I’d be caught in it.”
Wyatt closed his eyes, gathering himself. Robert was angry with him. It wasn’t like he’d meant to wrap him up in this mess. He hadn’t meant to get his friend killed. “I’d hoped,” he repeated sternly. “I am sorry, Robert. Truly I am, but if this had to happen… at least we can face this together.” He watched as Roberts expression melted from a sort of shock at his words to a laugh that chilled him to his core.
“Sure,” he growled, the word harsh and biting as he turned.
Wyatt reached out, catching hold of the coat. “Robert, please. Nothing I can say can put this right, but we’re both here now. What were you talking about earlier? Something that needed to be done.”
He watched the man he’d once been close with close his eyes, a low snarl escaped him that was so very, very different than the Robert he’d known. He turned back though, his eyes flashing briefly red. “You wanna see what’s happening here? Keep up.”
Wyatt hesitated only a beat before following Robert’s quick and determined pace through the collection of… homes? He wasn’t sure, but he did see pairs of red eyes watching him as they moved, hell’s own brand marking the scattered faces. He kept up with Robert until they made it to a circle and he saw those faces had followed them to the opening where a fire was building in the middle, a man chained there. He looked terrified and Wyatt looked to Robert for some sort of clarification as to what was happening.
“Don’t interfere,” was the only warning the naturally dark haired man growled as he took center stage.
The man chained near the fire started to whimper loudly. “I didn’t have a choice, boss! Bulshar, he made me-”
Robert flashed forward with an unnatural speed, snapping the nearly weeping man up by the hair on top of his head and hauling him till he was standing. “You’re not doing yourself any favours, Carl, calling that name out here. You think he’s going to save you? Protect you? No. You’re expendable. That’s why he sent you in. I would have protected you, but you turned. I told you what would happen, didn’t I? I warned you.”
“Bobo, please,” the Revenant - Carl - begged, but there was no mercy in those blue eyes.
“I warned you,” Robert answered icily and straightened, eyeing the others. “Take this as yours. Clootie will be put into the ground permanently. He can’t and won’t save you. Not from me.”
Wyatt watched as Robert reached down, unhooking part of the chain and the other Revenants murmured. “What will he do to him?” he asked the one closest to him and the demon blinked.
“Bobo warned us that if any switched to Clootie’s side he’d haul ‘im over the line himself.”
“The line?”
“For the Triangle. Outside.”
Then it clicked. They were stuck inside of it. “But he can’t leave. None of you can.”
“Without hell on earth, yeah.”
That’s why they’d asked if Wyatt was going to do it. He wasn’t a Revenant. He wasn’t bound to the Triangle like they were. “Won’t that do the same to Ro- to Bobo?”
The Revenant shrugged. “Sure, but ain’t nobody gonna cross him again. Not being willing to go that far.”
Don’t interfere. Now he understood, more than he might have been able to before. It had been nearly a century since Wyatt had passed away and the curse had truly begun. Robert hadn’t had a choice in what happened, but there he was still fighting the fight. It was terrible and it was ugly, and it was impossible for someone to come out of that whole. The fact that he’d retained his loyalty in any shape at all spoke volumes. It was…. so very Robert, despite the changes.
The screams sounded in the distance they crossed the boundary. Wyatt could see the way the smoke was rising from both Revenants, but Robert remained stoic, fastening the chain and bending to speak directly in the prisoner’s ear before starting back for the line.
No one moved to help him and somehow he was still on his feet. He swayed very slightly as he crossed back over, but kept right on going without a word, the screams of the one he’d left on the other side echoing. The other Revenants began to disperse, the show over, and Robert stalked in what looked like a particular direction.
Wyatt followed him to one of the tin homes that were scattered. “Robert?” he called softly.
“You wanna talk it’ll need to be in here,” Robert grumbled and Wyatt barely caught the door before it swung closed in his face.
He stepped in and home was a very loose interpretation of the sparsely decorated space. If he lived there, it didn’t look like he stayed there often. Robert moved to a cushioned bench and all but collapsed into it, his arm wrapped around his middle and his face screwed up in pain. “Shut the door and lock it,” he managed and after a moment of looking Wyatt found the latch to do so. When he looked back over he saw Robert struggling out of his coat, patches of skin showing to be red and angry once his arms were free of it. He grunted as he pull something wrong.
“Hey, take it easy,” Wyatt murmured, moving to help him, but he found himself startled to a stop as a snarl left his old friend, blue eyes shifting to red and the skin around it darkening. Interesting. No brand showed on his face like the others.
“What do you want, Wyatt?”
The response died in the other man’s throat. He wanted to help him, yes, but that really didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. He had done this. This was his fault, and that realization was becoming more real with each passing second.
Robert grimaced and leaned back. “Can’t you save whatever judgement you have to deal out until I’ve healed?”
Wyatt cleared his throat. “I have… no room to judge you, Robert. I think you and I both know that. You wouldn't….” He paused, not accustomed to being at a loss for words. Best just to be honest. “I did this.”
Blue eyes blinked, pained expression giving way to confusion. He sat up a little straighter and he turned his attention briefly to the marks on his arms before long fingers started working at his shirt, pulling it up to inspect what was being hidden by it. Angry, red burns that looked like they went a lot deeper than any burn should - almost like he’d been burned from the inside out - stretched across his torso. They ran below and all along his ribs and up above where his shirt still covered them, some lighter marks appear above his collar line. “I told you to take the shot,” he said after a long moment, his voice still gruff, but much less defensive than it had been before.
“You didn’t know what would happen.”
There was a sigh and he reached up to massage the bridge of his nose, a habit that even Wyatt knew. “Neither did you.”
Wyatt set his jaw. “Don’t you hate me for it?”
“Oh yes,” Robert drawled out.
Well, that stung more than he’d expected.
The Revenant loosed a long breath and eased the shirt back down, finally meeting his eyes. “And no. It's….” He shook his head.
“Complicated,” Wyatt murmured.
“Yeah.” He reached up and ran his hand along the strip of hair on top of his head, flattening it down a little. “I didn’t mind dying for you, Wyatt. I was ready to ride to hell and back if that’s what you needed, and I have. I…” He closer his eyes. “Just woulda been nice if I’d meant as much to you too.”
He felt abandoned. That’s what this was. “Every letter you wrote back said you were doing better.” The argument felt hollow even to him.
Robert snorted. “I lied.”
“Obviously.”
“What was I supposed to say, Wyatt? Come sit with me as I die? By the time I’d pushed it too far…. It was too late all the way around.”
There was a beat of silence between them and Wyatt took a seat across from his newly injured friend, their eyes meeting. “I am sorry. I’d have come back if I’d known. I never meant for you to be alone.”
“You always did love John Henry,” Robert murmured and he sounded like he was echoing the words from someone else.
“And you,” Wyatt promised softly. “You were my dear friend, Robert. For me, that hasn’t changed.”
“I’m a demon.”
“You’re Robert Svane.” Blue eyes flickered up and Wyatt sighed. “I ain’t saying you’re the same as you were then, but that doesn’t change your core. You’re a good man, Robert, always have been.”
Robert gave a mirthless chuckle. “Death made you delusional.”
“And it made you a bit more of an asshole than I remember,” Wyatt answered with a smirk of his own. “Lost that damnably polite tone of yours along the way, didn’t you?”
His old friend’s expression eased just a little. “First thing to go.” He shifted, the amusement fading. “We should head back into town.”
Wyatt nodded and stood, offering Robert a hand up. He saw the way that he looked at it funny for just a moment, like he wasn’t sure if he should take it or not. “You deserved better than all of this. So much better.”
“Yeah,” he said roughly, finally accepting the hand and letting Wyatt help pull him up to his feet. “But now we’re gonna give Clootie exactly what he deserves.”
