To quote Lyntwig_ on twitter: Everything Angelina Jolie and Waad Al-Kateab said were facts. “There are human rights sometimes for these people…never for these people…justice for these people, but not these people…accountability for this crime, but not this crime if there are business interests.”
Colonialism. Control abuse of developing countries. “It’s the entire system.” “Even the United Nations and the way it’s set up…and who has the final veto power…even the emergency relief can be vetoed by a country with business interests” “or by the country that’s bombing…”
Angelina’s always been critical of the UN and its system. I know she’s made a few comments about them here and there but to see her actually tell it how it is makes me kind of feel bad for her. I 100% understand why she stepped down and chose to work with local organizations. Screw movies (just give me Maude v Maude first). I would rather watch these sit-down videos with real, insightful people all day. There’s so much to learn from them. I enjoy every single one.
"Is she talking about Palestine?"
Lyntwig_: More so talking about refugees/displacement in general. The chat with Waad is for her film about refugee athletes.

Pour Sama (For Sama), Waad al-Kateab - Edward Watt, 2019
Waad is a young femal reporter. Hamza, her husband, is a doctor and sets up a temporary hospital in Aleppo, under siege. What we see here is really disturbing and rough to watch since we witness the plight of children who are the victims of various bombing (missiles, tank shells, chlorine gaz). But the couple remains brave. They try to resist and survive whatever it costs.
