Some fanart for the wonderful Northanger Abbey/It Happened One Night (1934) fanfic "Behold the Walls of Jericho" by @amarguerite !
A great opportunity to look up some 30s fashion for once ^^
For the version on the right, I attempted to use filters and effects in Krita to create a more worn look... (still need some more time and tutorials to figure that stuff out)

Israel had the Hamas attack plan for the music festival in 2022 and called it "Jericho Wall".
When Hamas attacked Israel October 7, 2023 I was suspicious that it really was a surprise to Israel.
I hope this war comes to an end soon.

"...Kay?" It isn't hard to find a jacket, hanging from their coat racks that he can throw on quickly. Luca throws one more curious look at his dad before heading outside to climb up to the roof with a shrug. Knives has made weirder requests.

Just as George W. Bush ignored the intelligence brief "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US", the Israeli authorities ignored plans by Hamas to conduct a terrorist operation like the one on October 7th.
Israeli officials obtained Hamas’s battle plan for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack more than a year before it happened, documents, emails and interviews show. But Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational, considering it too difficult for Hamas to carry out. The approximately 40-page document, which the Israeli authorities code-named “Jericho Wall,” outlined, point by point, exactly the kind of devastating invasion that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people. The translated document, which was reviewed by The New York Times, did not set a date for the attack, but described a methodical assault designed to overwhelm the fortifications around the Gaza Strip, take over Israeli cities and storm key military bases, including a division headquarters. Hamas followed the blueprint with shocking precision. The document called for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack, drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border, and gunmen to pour into Israel en masse in paragliders, on motorcycles and on foot — all of which happened on Oct. 7.
It doesn't do any good if you have good intelligence gathering but you then ignore it.
The document circulated widely among Israeli military and intelligence leaders, but experts determined that an attack of that scale and ambition was beyond Hamas’s capabilities, according to documents and officials. It is unclear whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or other top political leaders saw the document, as well.
One thing we do know is that Netanyahu has been playing footsie with Hamas for years. He has been attempting to build up Hamas as a counterweight against the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.
Rightwing Israelis have been seizing Palestinian land in the West Bank for decades. Netanyahu's Likud Party and its ideological allies are supported by these West Bank settlers. By weakening the Palestinian Authority, it's easier for Netanyhu's fans to grab more land. Few Israelis cared much about Gaza, so strengthening Hamas and even sending them suitcases of cash was regarded as an investment by Netanyahu and his far right friends.
The intercepted plans by Hamas for a major terror attack were ignored because they contradicted the mindset and agenda by Netanyahu and his colleagues.
ICYMI, check out this post from late October.
Tomorrow USA — ANALYSIS | How Netanyahu's Hamas policy came back to haunt him — and Israel
Hubristic rightwingers smugly pushing an ideological agenda are not good for the interests of any country.

Have you ever heart something along the lines of “every little detail of Neon Genesis Evangelion is important?”

I'd love to hear your opinion about this now that you are rewatching
To prelude my thoughts on this, I was talking recently to my friend about how Anno's assistant director basically said the Christian imagery is basically just vibes, so I don't know how much of this symbolism is just us Westerners finding meaning and connections that weren't intended. (Although, I think that is perfectly fine! I've definitely written things where people found deeper meaning in something I included without really thinking about it, and I think that is great, because art/writing is really about what is means to the viewer.) I know when I was watching, I was trying hard to find some kind of message about religion in the anime and getting kind of confused that there weren't the parallels I anticipated (which would make sense if Christianity was only used for the exotic vibes).
Which brings me to my opinion: maybe the Wall of Jericho reference was just because that's the most famous biblical wall, but I love how well it works here as a symbol of what Asuka wants from Shinji. This priest's analysis was spot on. Very cool video! Thanks for sharing it with me.

Walls of Jericho
The sound of quickened footsteps interrupted their thoughts, and Simon trailed off to turn away from Josh. North had a stern look to her face, but he was more worried about the way she held herself. It's not that she looked scared, just nervous.
Simon reached his hand out lightly toward her before he asked any questions.
"North? Did something happen?"
North closed her eyes and looked away for a moment, trying to collect her thoughts. Before she turned to face them again, she gave a slight nod. "Someone new has come to Jericho," her voice came out small, but she was more worried about the words. "I don't know if they're human or android."
The sheer implication that North somehow allowed a human into Jericho had Josh moving forward to protest, to ask more questions, to possibly accuse, but Simon instinctively raised his hand while he thought. Of course, he can physically stop Josh but not verbally.
"You're being serious right now? There could be a human here right and you-"
"And what, Josh?" North spat back, "I didn't kill them? You're right. I should have." her arms were outstretched, ready to take a physical hit rather than some petty words right now.
But before they could say much else, Simon let out a sigh and pushed the back of his hand into Josh's chest, "Alright, enough you two." when he felt Josh back down, he removed his arm from between them. "No human should be able to get to Jericho as we are now. You probably didn't get a good look at them." he gave a gentle nod as he pivoted himself between the two of them, leaning to one side as he looked to North. "There's not much we can do. They'll be here soon, android or not." he shifted his jaw, looking to Josh.
All of their glances turned skyward when the ship started to creak and moan under stress, watching in horror as metal grates fell from above.
Simon instinctively reached for North to get her out of the way as soon as possible, while Josh had skidded his way out nearby. The sound of quick, retreating footsteps were drowned out by the loud crashing of the debris.
He let go of her arm as soon as they were safely away from the falling grates, feeling her pull herself away from his lax hand. She didn't say anything, but he still wanted to apologize. He hadn't meant for the thought to be so loud as to get a response, though.
「I'm sorry, North.」
「Doesn't matter. What the hell is going on?」
North wasn't really asking a question to be answered, and she may have inadvertently given Simon her feelings of unease. And while he wasn't exactly sure about her, he did flinch when someone fell along with the grates in front of them. Josh was by Simon's side without him asking for assistance, but he appreciated the gesture, shooting him a glance before they both approached the body to assess the damage.
Simon looked up cautiously before kneeling down with Josh to take a look at who had fallen into the pit of Jericho. Simon reached to touch him first, lightly trailing his hands over him to try and get a scan in before he shifted, asking for Josh's assistance to turn him over onto his back. That was easy enough, as soon as they removed their hands it was clear they were dealing with an android by the blue stains on their hands.
North, a scowl on her face, could not believe the stupidity of these men so casually walking up to their assailant.
