"A team at Northwestern University has come up with the term “dancing molecules” to describe an invention of synthetic nanofibers which they say have the potential to quicken the regeneration of cartilage damage beyond what our body is capable of.
The moniker was coined back in November 2021, when the same team introduced an injection of these molecules to repair tissues and reverse paralysis after severe spinal cord injuries in mice.
Now they’ve applied the same therapeutic strategy to damaged human cartilage cells. In a new study, published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, the treatment activated the gene expression necessary to regenerate cartilage within just four hours.
And, after only three days, the human cells produced protein components needed for cartilage regeneration, something humans can’t do in adulthood.
The conceptual mechanisms of the dancing molecules work through cellular receptors located on the exterior of the cell membrane. These receptors are the gateways for thousands of compounds that run a myriad of processes in biology, but they exist in dense crowds constantly moving about on the cell membrane.
The dancing molecules quickly form synthetic nanofibers that move according to their chemical structure. They mimic the extracellular matrix of the surrounding tissue, and by ‘dancing’ these fibers can keep up with the movement of the cell receptors. By adding biological signaling receptors, the whole assemblage can functionally move and communicate with cells like natural biology.
“Cellular receptors constantly move around,” said Northwestern Professor of Materials Sciences Samuel Stupp, who led the study. “By making our molecules move, ‘dance’ or even leap temporarily out of these structures, known as supramolecular polymers, they are able to connect more effectively with receptors.”
The target of their work is the nearly 530 million people around the globe living with osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease in which tissues in joints break down over time, resulting in one of the most common forms of morbidity and disability.
“Current treatments aim to slow disease progression or postpone inevitable joint replacement,” Stupp said. “There are no regenerative options because humans do not have an inherent capacity to regenerate cartilage in adulthood.”
In the new study, Stupp and his team looked to the receptors for a specific protein critical for cartilage formation and maintenance. To target this receptor, the team developed a new circular peptide that mimics the bioactive signal of the protein, which is called transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGFb-1).
Northwestern U. Press then reported that the researchers incorporated this peptide into two different molecules that interact to form supramolecular polymers in water, each with the same ability to mimic TGFb-1...
“With the success of the study in human cartilage cells, we predict that cartilage regeneration will be greatly enhanced when used in highly translational pre-clinical models,” Stupp said. “It should develop into a novel bioactive material for regeneration of cartilage tissue in joints.”
“We are beginning to see the tremendous breadth of conditions that this fundamental discovery on ‘dancing molecules’ could apply to,” Stupp said. “Controlling supramolecular motion through chemical design appears to be a powerful tool to increase efficacy for a range of regenerative therapies.”"

The Resort (Part 1)
THIS IS AN URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL THOSE IN THE [REDACTED] & [REDACTED] AREAS
Tumblr media
Hello,
It has come to our attention that an unfortunate accident at one of our chemical treatment plans has occurred on the [REDACTED]st of [REDACTED] 2023, resulting in the contamination of the water supply in the above mentioned areas for a period of approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes.
A statement has been issued to water providers by The Company™️ and a number of anti-transformative chemicals have been released to counteract the imbalance.
However, the damage has been done and we wish to report on it as such.
Tumblr media
As you may know, some of the affected water infiltrated the [REDACTED] Beach Resort where it unwittingly transformed multiple male patrons into what is colloquially referred to as "Cuntboys". IE- Men with a fully functional vagina, uterus, ovaries, etc. Others not as diligently exposed to the chemicals did not experience full "Cuntboy-ification" as it has been deemed.
This transformation is reported to have first occurred with a sudden and dramatic increase in the size of the lower extremities, glutes, lower back muscles and an initial reduction in penis and testicle size.
This reportedly occurred throughout the premises, including the pool's filtration system, the resort's water system (showers, baths, commercial water taps), and available on-tap drinking water.
The following changes consisted of what we are dubbing a "hyper-fertile cycle" where the excess chemical exposure was processed into a mixture of testosterone, dopamine and oxytocin. This resulted in a dramatically increased libido.
Fortunately the spread of the affected was contained within the resort and secondary exposure (either through sexual fluids or otherwise) was rendered ineffectual as the transformative chemicals were able to penetrate the skin barrier in less than 0.2 microseconds). This resulted in numerous impregnations or otherwise sexual encounters in and around the location, of which have been documented.
Tumblr media
We encourage all those affected either through direct exposure or through coupling and secondary exposure to report to one of our branches to undergo a full physical exam and analysis.
We also encourage all currently, or presumed to be, pregnant to not terminate the pregnancy as we wish to ascertain valuable research data on the growth of the foetus within this timeframe.
We hope to reveal more information to the public as it becomes known.
Regards,
The Company.
~~~
You smirk as the commercial comes to an end, the broadcaster for the local news station thanking The Company for their transparency regarding the situation and continuing with more news on the recent baby boom caused through the accident.
You couldn't pay attention for long though, not as the hot little cuntboy you picked up from the resort was busy swallowing every inch of your enhanced cock down his throat.
You fisted his hair, shoving him down to push his nose in your pubes, loving how his throat spasmed around your dick and the gurgling sound that came out of his tight throat.
"You hear that baby, they wanna give you a checkup."
A soft whimper comes out as the only response. He looks up at you, tear-filled baby blues staring into yours. He's been working your cock for hours, thoroughly content with kneeling between your spread thighs and swallowing every enhanced load you can give.
"Yeah I know you're pregnant. They just wanna make sure you can give me a while lot more."
Tumblr media
A more pleased sound comes out as he resumes his enthusiastic sucking. You're sure that's his fifth load in as many hours.
You sigh as the hot cum shoots up your rock hard dick. You might as well put off that appointment till tomorrow...
The ruin dwarfs anything Gazans have ever experienced. The ongoing aerial, naval, and ground assault has by one United Nations estimate damaged or destroyed about one-fifth of the structures in Gaza. According to Thorsten Kallnischkies, a former disaster waste manager who has advised cleanups in 20 countries, 15 million tons of debris now litter the Gaza Strip.
[...]
Without ground access to Gaza, observers are relying on remote sensing and publicly available information to measure environmental impacts to the Strip. Using satellite analysis, He Yin, an assistant professor of geography at Kent State University, reckons the fighting has damaged 15 to 29 percent of Gaza’s arable land. The PAX report identifies a plume of black smoke from a soda factory, suggesting burning plastics, and heavy damage at an industrial campus that makes pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics and other chemical goods. In November, The New York Times observed a huge fire at a water-treatment plant, a frightening development in one of the most water-stressed places in the world.
University of California, Riverside, chemical and environmental engineering scientists have identified two species of bacteria found in soil that break down a class of stubborn “forever chemicals,” giving hope for low-cost biological cleanup of industrial pollutants.
These bacteria destroy a subgroup of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, that have one or more chlorine atoms within their chemical structure, Yujie Men, an assistant professor in the Bourns College of Engineering, and her UCR colleagues, reported in the journal Natural Water.
Unhealthful forever chemicals persist in the environment for decades or much longer because of their unusually strong carbon-to-fluorine bonds. Remarkably, the UCR team found that the bacteria cleave the pollutant’s chlorine-carbon bonds, which starts a chain of reactions that destroy the forever chemical structures, rendering them harmless.
“What we discovered is that bacteria can do carbon-chlorine bond cleavage first, generating unstable intermediates,” Men said. “And then those unstable intermediates undergo spontaneous defluorination, which is the cleavage of the carbon-fluorine bond.”
Chlorinated PFAS are a large group in the forever chemical family of thousands of compounds. They include a variety of non-flammable hydraulic fluids used in industry and compounds used to make chemically stable films that serve as moisture barriers in various industrial, packaging, and electronic applications.
The two bacteria species – Desulfovibrio aminophilus and Sporomusa sphaeroides – identified by Men’s group are naturally occurring and are known to live in the subterranean microbiomes where groundwater may be contaminated with PFAS. For expedited cleanups, an inexpensive nutrient, such as methanol, could be injected into groundwater to promote bacterial growth. This would greatly increase the bacteria’s presence to destroy the pollutants more effectively, Men said. If the bacteria are not already present, the contaminated water could be inoculated with one of the bacterium species.
But what’s known about using microorganisms to clean up PFAS is still in its infancy, Men said. Her discovery shows great promise because biological treatments, if effective pollutant-eating microbes are available, are generally less costly and more environmentally friendly than chemical treatments. Pollutant-eating microbes can also be injected into difficult-to-reach locations underground.
Men’s latest PFAS study comes as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is promulgating new regulations to spur cleanups of PFAS-contaminated groundwater sites throughout the nation because these chemicals have been linked to a host of ill health effects, including cancer, kidney disease, and hormone disruptions.
A commonplace chemical used in water treatment facilities has been repurposed for large-scale energy storage in a new battery design by researchers at the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The design provides a pathway to a safe, economical, water-based, flow battery made with Earth-abundant materials. It provides another pathway in the quest to incorporate intermittent energy sources such as wind and solar energy into the nation's electric grid. The researchers report in Nature Communications that their lab-scale, iron-based battery exhibited remarkable cycling stability over one thousand consecutive charging cycles, while maintaining 98.7 percent of its maximum capacity. For comparison, previous studies of similar iron-based batteries reported degradation of the charge capacity two orders of magnitude higher, over fewer charging cycles.
Excerpt from this National Geographic story:
A 14-year-old boy who went swimming in a pond in India’s sweltering heat. A 13-year-old girl who bathed in a pool during a school excursion, and a five-year-old girl who took a dip in a river near her home. The three children lived in different parts of the southern Indian state of Kerala. Yet they have something in common ⸺all of them succumbed to a brain infection, Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM), caused by a tiny organism found in warm freshwaters and poorly maintained swimming pools. About a dozen others have been undergoing treatment in India, one of whom, a 27-year-old man, has also succumbed.
Although rare, PAM is a deadly infection with a worldwide occurrence. It is caused by Naegleria fowleri, also known as the "brain-eating amoeba”, as it infects the brain and destroys brain tissue. At least 39 countries have reported such infections so far, and the rate of infections is increasing by 4.5 percent every year. In Pakistan alone, 20 deaths are reported every year due to the disease, and in 2024, infections have been reported in India, Pakistan, and Israel. N. fowleri was also detected at a popular freshwater swimming spot in Western Australia and hot springs in the U.S’s Grand Teton National Park.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the majority of global case exposures⸺85 percent⸺have been reported during warm, hot, or summer seasons. Several studies have also observed that changes in temperature and climate may further drive a global increase in PAM incidence. A study published in May last year found that PAM infections are on the rise in the northern U.S. "N. fowleri is expanding northward due to climate change, posing a greater threat to human health in new regions where PAM has not yet been documented," the study noted.
Yun Shen, an assistant professor of chemical and environmental engineering at the University of California, Riverside, says that she considers PAM as “a potential emerging medical threat worldwide”. She explains that while warmer temperatures are likely to facilitate the survival and growth of N. fowleri, the risk of exposure may also increase as people indulge in more water-based recreational activities in hotter weather.
N. fowleri is found in warm, untreated freshwater, soil, and dust, says Karen Towne, a clinical associate professor of nursing at the University of Mount Union in Ohio, who co-authored a 2023 study on how the amoeba poses “a new concern for northern climates”. She adds that so far, PAM infections have typically occurred in cases involving swimming, splashing, and submerging one’s head in freshwater lakes, ponds, hot springs, and reservoirs. Meanwhile, less common routes of transmission have included warm hose water, a lawn water slide, splash pad use, and exposure of the nasal membrane to tap water from private well systems.
“Epidemiologically, most cases have occurred in healthy children and young adults⸺more males than females⸺who have had recent contact with untreated fresh water,” Towne told National Geographic in an email interview.
According to Barbara Polivka, an associate dean of research at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, who co-authored the study with Towne, N. fowleri enters the nose via contaminated water, crosses the nasal membrane, and follows the olfactory nerve into the brain, where it incubates for an average of five days. “PAM begins with rapid onset of severe frontal headache, fever, nausea and vomiting, which worsen into stiff neck, altered mental status, hallucinations, coma, and death,” says Polivka.
Spiderman au (stoncy)
Jonathan makes sure to check that the ally is well and truly empty before he pulls his mask up. Christ, he wouldn’t have become Spider-Man if he’d known how hot the suit would be. And not in the fun way people like to joke about. He chugs his water, and debates pouring some over his head. Sadly he needs it to hydrate. He slowly drinks the rest like a good superhero.
That’s still insane to him. Even after years of experience, he still sometimes thinks he’s going to wake up and it will all have been a bad dream.
Nancy told him she got into investigative reporting after her best friend went missing. She was found a year later, body deteriorating inside the restricted area of a government lab that had faces a chemical leak. A leak they tried their best to cover up.
Her first article is under someone else’s name. He’s read it. It’s incredibly good for a seventeen year old burning with righteous fury. It’s obvious that she was meant for this, built for finding the cracks and burrowing deeper until she pulls the ugly truth.
He respects her deeply. He just wishes that he wasn’t the crack she’s focusing on.
“You’ve spoken to him though, Jonathan,” she says, eyes pleading. “If anyone could get me an interview, it would be you!”
And have her recognize him instantly? No thanks.
“Nancy, seriously. He doesn’t want an interview.”
“But if I could just talk to him-”
“No, Nance.”
He knows her first regret will always be Barb. Her second, though? The ex-boyfriend who also went missing after agreeing to some extremely shady treatment for his terminal cancer. Unlike Barb, she never got closure for that one. She still doesn’t know what happened to him. She tracked him as far as the facility they’d taken him to, but it exploded long before she got there. Presumably with Steve inside.
He knows she still holds out hope. They never identified his body she’d whispered to him once after too many drinks at an office party. I checked the records. They don’t know for certain if he was still in it.
The next day she told him she knew it was a stupid wish. Even if the explosion hadn’t killed him, the cancer would have by now. But he knows Nancy. She’ll never stop wondering.
“So how’d you get yours?” Deadpool asks, swinging his legs cheerfully over the ledge.
“My Chimichanga? You gave it to me.”
He can practically see Deadpool roll his eyes behind his mask. “No, smartass. Your powers.”
That’s a loaded question. If he’s too specific it would be easy to find out who he is. But it’s not like it would be with anyone else, is it? Deadpool’s a hero too, no matter how much anti he puts in front of it. And they’re friends, or something like it. Friendly enough for him to let the other man slap his ass at least.
“I got bit by a radioactive spider.”
“No,” he gasps, whipping his head towards Jonathan. “No fucking way. Seriously?”
“I’m being completely serious!” He promises, starting to laugh. It really does sound ridiculous out loud. “I was on this field trip at the place my mom’s ex-boyfriend worked at, and it got out and bit me!”
“Field trip? Oh my God, you were a fucking baby. No wonder your mom broke up with that guy.”
That sobers him up quick. “He was actually a really nice guy,” he says quietly, looking down at his hands. “He, uh…he died, actually.” Saving my brother, he doesn’t say. The failure still bleeds in his chest. He should have been stronger. Bob didn’t deserve the way he died, ripped apart by the Green Goblin because they’d been after him.
His mom doesn’t blame him, but she should.
“Shit,” Deadpool swears, reaching towards Jonathan as if to comfort before thinking better of it and pulling away. “Shit, I shouldn’t have said that, sorry. Me and my big fucking mouth.”
“It’s more trouble than you’re worth,” Jonathan agrees, and ignores the protest that gets. “What about you? How’d you get your powers?”
Deadpool takes the deflect with grace, eager as Jonathan to get the awkwardness behind them. “Oh, me? Great story, you’re gonna love this. So I was dying from cancer, right?”
He wasn’t expecting that, almost choking on the chimichanga he’d taken a bite of.
“Gross, man. Chew it, don’t spew it.”
“You have cancer and you’re out here doing all this?”
“I had cancer,” he corrects. “Terminal. There was no saving me, yanno? And I…well, I got desperate.”
Jonathan sucks in a breath. He knows exactly what kind of things desperation lead to.
Deadpool huffs a laugh. “Yeah,” he agrees, even though Jonathan hasn’t said anything. “Stupid of me, I know. Shoulda just kicked the bucket like a respectable motherfucker. But no, I just had to track down some shady research facility that promised to try and find a cure for me. You know how that goes, right? But, well…” He raises a fist, dropping it slowly down before he opens it near his thigh, making an explosion noise with his mouth. “Rock fucking bottom, amiright? I was gonna die anyway. Why not add human experimentation to my bucket list?”
“So it worked?”
“So it worked?” He mimics, in a high-pitched voice that sounds nothing like Jonathan. “I’m still here, aren’t I?”
“How’d you get superpowers from it?”
“I was getting to that. So it worked, right? But the cure they used…it wasn’t designed to stop the cancer. Not really. No, what they did was turn me into a mutant. I’m basically an X-Men by now. X-Man? Point is, not dying did not come naturally. And once they brought it out of me, they made sure to test it. Again, and again, and again.”
Suddenly his chimichanga doesn’t look too good anymore. He hands it to Deadpool, who takes it with enthusiasm.
“Thanks, man, how’d you know I was still hungry? Anyway, I escaped, obviously. Took the whole organization down with me. By the time I left, whole building was in flames. Now I’m hunting down the survivors.” He takes a bite. “Y’sure you don’ wan dish?” He asks through a mouthful of food.
“I’m good.”
He swallows. “Your loss, I guess. This is fucking delicious. Sorry to be a moodkiller and run, but I’m afraid I have an appointment with a very small, very blind landlady. Toodles!”
He leaves Jonathan there at a loss for words. He can’t even make a sound to protest. All he can do is watch as Deadpool jumps straight down from the roof, only barely bothering to slow his fall so he doesn’t break his leg. Not that it would matter much if he did. Jonathan stays on the roof, processing, until he hears a woman cry for help a few streets away.
He hits his web-shooters. Crime never sleeps in the city.
It’s only when he’s in bed that he realizes he’s heard that story before.
The next time he sees Nancy, he’s a mess.
“You ready to shoot?” She asks, setting a coffee on his desk with a smile. It falters when all he does is stare back. “Jonathan?”
Ready to shoot? Right. Photography. His job. His job he works at with Nancy. Nancy, whose ex-boyfriend may or may not be the guy who has slapped his ass and flirted with him on numerous occasions. Fuck. He’s going insane. He’s losing his fucking mind. Deadpool probably isn’t even Steve and all this will be for nothing.
“Your ex-boyfriend,” he blurts out. She rears back, startled. “He had cancer, right?”
“Steve?” She shakes her head, not in disagreement but in confusion. “What does he have to do with anything?”
“Did he?”
Her mouth twists in displeasure. He doesn’t blame her, that was a terrible fucking way to start “Hey, your dead boyfriend might not be so dead after all!” He wishes he could bang his head on his desk without cracking the table. “I’m not talking about this.”
“Nancy, wait,” he starts, and she shakes her head again.
“I’m going to see if Fred is free, actually,” she says, and hurries away. He groans, and lets his head fall onto his desk anyway. One tiny crack won’t matter, right?
It’ll fit in with all the others.
Nancy avoids him for the next week. By the time he sees Deadpool again, he’s even more of a mess.
“Spidey!” He greets, blood dripping off his sword. “I know I ask this every time, but I just gotta check, man. You seen anyone named Brenner around?”
“Still a no, sorry.”
He sighs, wiping off his blade before sticking it back in the sheath. “Worth a shot.”
“Do you ever talk to people from your old life?” Jonathan blurts out. “Before you became a superhero?”
Deadpool shrugs nonchalantly, but he can’t pass off the tension in his shoulders. “They all think I’m dead,” he says. “It’s better that way.”
“Didn’t you have a girlfriend? Or friends? Parents?”
“Friends, not really. Parents, no. Girlfriend…she’s better off this way.” He says, counting on his fingers. He laughs bitterly. “I stopped talking to my parents before I even got diagnosed, and my only friend was my girlfriend. I dumped all the other ones for being assholes after…well, some shit went down, and they were real dicks about it, that’s all I’m gonna say.” He turns to Jonathan, suspicious. “Why the third-degree?”
“What’s dying like?”
“Pretty chill, actually,” he says. Jonathan turns to look at him, and he gets the impression Deadpool is grinning. “Don’t get me wrong, the dying part? That fucking suuuuuucks. But Death itself isn’t so bad. I usually just chill with Her for a while before She sends me back.”
“...Her?”
“Oh yeah, The Lady loves me. We’re besties.”
“You’re besties,” he repeats flatly. “With Death.”
“What? Like that’s so hard to believe, Mr. Radioactive Spider?”
He’s got him there. “What’s Death like then? The…Lady, or whatever.”
“Well, first of all, she’s a massive lesbian.”
Jonathan should have known nothing that came out of his mouth would be fucking normal. “I’m leaving.”
“No, wait!” Deadpool grabs his arm. “I’m being serious! Death is a lesbian, she loves birds and prefers to go by Robin, and we’re apparently soulmates.”
“…are you a girl?”
“No?”
“That doesn’t make any sense.”
“C’mon, Spidey, open your mind.” If he could see his face, he knows that bastard would be smirking at him. “We’re not romantic. She actually hated me at first. I mean we’re literally tied together by the universe. Whatever souls are made of, hers and mine are the same.’
“Is that Emily Bronte?”
“Look who paid attention in high school english!”
He misses his bed.
Considering how prized modern Italian leather goods are today, it is perhaps not too surprising that there was a good deal of variety of types of ancient Roman sandals and shoes. The shoe-maker (sutor) was a valued craftsman in the days of Roman Empire and Romans contributed entire-foot-encasing shoe to the Mediterranean world.
Archaeological studies indicate that Romans brought shoe-making technology of vegetal tanning to Northwestern Europe. Tanning can be accomplished by the treatment of animal skins with oils or fats or by smoking, but none of those methods result in permanent and water-resistant leather. True tanning uses vegetable extracts to create a chemically stable product, which is resistant to bacterial decay, and has resulted in the preservation of many examples of ancient shoes from damp environments such as riverside encampments and backfilled wells.
The spread of vegetable tanning technology was almost certainly an outgrowth of the imperial Roman army and its supply requirements. Most of the earliest preserved shoes have been found in early Roman military establishments in Europe and Egypt. Earliest preserved Roman footwear found so far was made in 4th Century BC, although it is still unknown where the technology originated.
In addition, Romans innovated a variety of distinctive shoe styles, the most obvious of which are hobnailed shoes and sandals. Even the single-piece shoes developed by Romans are significantly different from the pre-Roman native footwear. The Romans are also responsible for the innovation of owning multiple pairs of shoes for different occasions. The crew of a grain ship sunk in Rhine River about 210 CE each owned one closed pair and one pair of sandals.
The Latin word for generic sandals is sandalia or soleae; for shoes and shoe-boots the word was calcei, related to the word for heel (calx). Sebesta and Bonfante (2001) report that these types of shoes were specifically worn with the toga and so were forbidden to enslaved people. In addition, there were slippers (socci) and theatrical footwear, like the cothurnus.
The generic calceus was made of soft leather, completely covered the foot and was fastened in front with thongs. Some early shoes had pointed upward curving toes (calcei repandi), and were both laced and strapped into place. Later shoes had rounded toes.
The wet weather called for a boot called the pero, which was made of rawhide. Calcamen was the name of a shoe that reached mid-calf.
The black leather senator's shoe or calceus senatorius had four straps (corrigiae). A senator's shoes were decorated with a crescent shape on the top. Except for color and price, the senator's shoe was similar to the patrician's costlier red high-soled calceus mulleus fastened with hooks and straps around the ankle.
Caligae muliebres were unstudded boots for women. Another diminutive was the calceoli, which was a little shoe or half boot for women.
According to some artistic representations, Roman soldiers wore embromides, impressive dress boots with a feline head that came nearly to the knees. They have never been found archaeologically, so it is possible that these were an artistic convention and never made for production. Regular soldiers had shoes called campagi militares and the well-ventilated marching boot, caliga (with the diminutive caligula used as a nickname for the 3rd Roman emperor). Caliga had extra thick soles and were studded with hobnails.
💥 For Yuseong
💥 - A witch has turned your OC into a militaristic vehicle. What vehicle would that be?
…………………………………………………
Huchu and Yuseong sneaked into a mysterious storage in the middle of nowhere. There were a raised of terrorism on the eastern part of nation C and C2ISTAR was hired to find out where did these terrorists get money to fund their activities. Angae’s sleeper reported that the group is self sustained through some form of business and Noeu found some traces of underground transactions on private water vessel in the high sea which Beagcha confirmed to be a common practice between illegal goods dealers.
Orenji had identified the location of congest activities through surveillance by air and Seoltang analyzed the photos. They found that there’s one particular isolated storage clearly under a camouflage attempts with interesting security measures and so the scientists duo are dispatched to identified the chemical compounds hidden in that storage.
Huchu and Yuseong are now inside, it’s full of cardboard boxes stacked upon each other. Huchu swiftly cut one of the boxes open to take a look, a bunch of brown glass bottles are arranged inside but what caught Huchu’s attention is their caps.
Huchu: “It’s cough syrups”
Yuseong: “But if this is what they sold, why be so secretive and suspicious?”
Huchu: “Probably because they are not selling these for medical use, to simplified; cough is a respond to an irritation in your throat where the brain tells muscles in your chest to push the air out of your lungs. This resulted from the stimulated nerves sending a message to your brain and cough syrup suppressed that function”
Yuseong: “Wait, so all allergy pills directly suppress your nerves system?”
Yuseong frowned at the horrifying implication toward the current allergy treatment and how many MDD patient have history of allergy pills usage due to some form of chronic allergy but then he beam other sunny smile.
Yuseong: “That’s so cool!”
Tumblr media
Huchu doesn’t know what to make of Yuseong’s reaction.
Huchu: “Yeah…..we call them antihistamines. When mixed with the right NSAID in the right amount, you can creat a handmade drug that are a lot cheaper than heroin or amphetamine”
Huchu prays that this will not give Yuseong any weird ide-
Yuseong: “That gives me an idea”
Huchu sighed, now he has to ask Seoltang to kindly re-indoctrinate Yuseong again.
Huchu: “Yuseong, NO”
Yuseong: “But-But a food that prevented body from getting Ghrelin is really interesting, it could be use as a cure for some case of obesity and eating disorders! We can get a funds for this research by advertising to the executives that these are food that make soldiers unable to feel hungry no matter how little nutrition they have, it will sell well and all we need are antihistamine that bind to H-2 receptors-“
Before Yuseong could accidentally invent other market of people’s right violation. They hear a sound of shatter glass followed by a small thud, like someone had collapsed. They took a second to quickly check on each other before deciding the next move; should they move toward or away from the sound?
The scientists duo are way too curious to considered their options and just immediately go to checkout where the sound came from because SCIENCE.
They found one of the terrorists collapse on the ground alone next to one of the open box and a shattered cough syrup bottle, no blood, no injuries.
Despite the risk, Huchu reach out to check on this terrorist. Looking at the skin beneath his fur, it’s somewhat yellow. Indicating that his liver has difficulty functioning, the heart is okay and the breathing is normal. Huchu dig into the terrorist’s pocket to check if he has chronic illness or is taking any medication which he found a small package of Naproxen. This lead to Huchu checking the terrorist pupils which appear to be expanded, having a theory in his mind he lean in and smell the leftover substance in terrorist’s mouth to confirm his diagnosis.
Huchu: “It’s a case of overdose. Unlike Ibuprofen, Naproxen last longer in your blood so it is harder for your body to clean it off and so it is easier to get an overdose once diluted in cough syrup that are designed to be easily absorbed”
Huchu slowly inserted a tube through his patient’s throat, careful to not trigger a gag reflex. Through it, he feed terrorist some activated charcoal to absorb as much Naproxen and Dextromethorphan as possible.
Huchu reach into his pocket for Acetylcysteine, but he found that the bottle is empty. It appears he accidentally took a used bottle with him…either that or Angae wasn’t seeing correctly when he help Huchu pack the supplies.
Huchu: "He needs a liver transplant, I will let him borrow my liver for a bit. Let’s see if his body is compatible with mine"
Huchu unbutton his uniform, prepare to open his skin and dug a tube into his Portal vein and Hepatic artery but Yuseong stop him.
Yuseong: "No! You already trade your liver and kidneys off a couple of times this year not counting when you replace the broken blood-pumpimg machine with your heart! You can’t always resort to these kind of method!"
Yuseong shakingly squeeze Huchu's hand but then suddenly, Yuseong lighten up and he wags his tail somewhat excitingly. Huchu is clearly startled by the sudden shift of expression.
Yuseong: “You just need Acetylcysteine right? Can you tell me its chemical formula?”
Huchu: “…..C5H9NO3S…..?”
Yuseong: “Okay, so it’s Cyclopentyl radical, Nitrate and Sulfur”
Yuseong start to look around. He goes to the open box and took the foam piece that keeps the cough syrup bottles in place. These foam are called polystyrene foam. The blowing agent use for these foam is Pentane which has the chemical formula of C5H12, only a couple of Hydrogen atoms away from Cyclopentyl radical.
Yuseong then took terrorist’s gun on the floor then took a couple of bullet. Sulfur can be found in gunpowder, and lastly Nitrates can be extracted from Potassium nitrate which can also be found in the gunpowder.
Having all main ingredients, Yuseong start constructing his portable miniature chamber. He make this chamber a while back and he always carried it with him, it cannot breakdown every atomic bound at will like the life size one but removing 3 hydrogen atoms and extracting Nitrate from potassium nitrate is not beyond it capabilities.
Although atomic physics is not Huchu’s specialty, he does recognize the procedure to take a while and so injected Beta blocker into his patients to keep his heart BPM as low as it will allows him to live so that Naproxen and Dextromethorphan spread at slower rate.
After a while of breaking some atomic bounds as well as rearranging molecular structure, the liver detoxification chemical is done.
Huchu injected Acetylcysteine into his patients followed by Epinephrine to return his heart BPM to normal rate.
The overdosed person woke up, dazed at first but then jolt up trying to get away from Yuseong like a pilot spotting SAM.
Yuseong on the other hand is smiling brightly. This is the first time anyone he cannot recognize had a specific reaction to him. It gives Yuseong a lot of hope, so much so that his knees are on the floor. May be this overdosed person knows who he was, a first lead to finding his daughter.
Yuseong beam his sunniest smile to the stranger and quickly crawl to him while speaking excitingly.
Tumblr media
Yuseong: “Greetings mister, my name is Yuseong! I suspected myself of having one daughter and that I committed arson with the intention of robbery, do tell me if you recognize my name or appearance-“
Tumblr media
Ignoring Yuseong, Huchu slowly and carefully approach his patient.
Huchu: “Shhh… it’s okay, I’m here to help. I will not let anyone hurt you…”
The overdosed stranger pointed at Yuseong and yell that a Mobile CBRN laboratory is chasing him.
Tumblr media
This prompted Huchu to forcefully grab the overdosed terrorist by his collar and shone some light into his corneas.
Huchu: “Ah, He’s still high. Probably hallucinating but at least he would probably survive now if we leave him alone”
However, Huchu didn’t let go of the guy’s collar.
Huchu: “Right..?”
He look deep into his patient’s eyes….who doesn’t exactly seeing correctly and is slowly slipping away from Huchu’s hand because he’s still high-
Huchu: “You think you can get away and go ingest unhealthy stuff again?? NOT A CHANCE, you are my patient now you hear me?! I didn’t spend-….Yuseong, how long does it take us to treat this guy?”
Yuseong: “……about 2 hours?”
Huchu: “2 HOURS of sweat and effort so I can let you out to die in the outside world like the other soldiers I’ve treated!!”
The terrorist attempted to get away from Huchu who legit is just trying to kidnap the man at this point, but Huchu gripped strength is too strong, and the guy got slap in the face by Huchu.
Huchu: “SToP ResISTINg mEDicAL HeLP”
Guess the ‘I won’t let anyone hurt you’ part didn’t include Huchu himself-
Huchu carried the terrorist over his shoulder.
Huchu: “You will never lay eyes on cough syrup or NSAID ever again! You will live with ALT of 34 U/L, AST of 32 U/L, ALP of 92 U/L, Albumin of 4 g/dL, total protein of 8 g/dL, Bilirubin of 1.0 milligram, GGT of 30 U/L, LD of 175 U/L and PT of 10 seconds until you are 65 at minimum!“
Yuseong pick the rifle on the floor up then approach Huchu.
Yuseong: “Hu, I know you are concerned but wouldn’t it cause problems if they realized that one of them went missing”
Yuseong spoke with nurturing empathy.
Yuseong: “Also if his liver actually manages to reach these values then I think his liver will become a world record statistical anomaly”
Just when they are about to leave, a couple of footsteps can be heard. A big group of terrorists surrounded the duo with guns.
But then the terrorists hold their gun up. They stare at Huchu and Yuseong and oddly that's all they do, no one shoot or charge at neither of them which really confused the scientists duo.
Yuseong: “Wait could it be…”
Yuseong’s light up into the sunniest smile.
Yuseong: “…because we save their comrade..?”
Suddenly their earpiece buzzed and Angae speak through it.
Angae: “Huchu, Yuseong, what’s going on? I got the report from my sleeper about the situation but how did things lead to that?”
Huchu: "It appears they refused to do harm to us because we save one of their friends"
Although he knows that Angae cannot see him, Yuseong still do a little nod while smiling.
Angae went quiet for a second.
Angae: “That doesn’t quite alight with what I received, my agent said there’s a hostage situation in the storage”
Yuseong, Huchu and the overdosed terrorist look at each other then at the other terrorists who surrounded them.
Huchu: “…..Who’s the hostage..?”
Angae: “The leader of this terrorist group?”
Huchu and Yuseong look at the overdosed terrorist who is still a little high.
Angae: “Wait a minute….You two didn’t-“
Huchu furiously stole the rifle from Yuseong and smacked the terrorist leader head with the handle.
Huchu: “YOu SOld tHis ShiT So YoU KnOw iT’s bAD bUt YOu STiLl InGEsT It-”
