The Red String
Miguel Ohara x Spider!reader
Summary: Legend has it, there is an invisible red thread that connects us to those we are destined to meet. Regardless of time, place, or circumstances. It may stretch and tangle but never break.
Warnings: slight ATSV spoilers, cursing, canon typical violence.
A/N: HI FELLOW SIMPS! Please enjoy this mediocre fic that I wrote because I’m in love with Miguel.
Tumblr media
A freak.
That’s what you felt like.
But surprising enough it wasn’t due to the enhanced spider abilities like crawling up the walls and sensing a flying projectile from a mile away.
No. No, it was the issue with your fucking soul string.
Letting out a deep sigh, you swung your legs over the side of the fire escape, pulling off your glove as you examined your hand. . . Or more accurately; your pinkie finger.
The thin faded string tied around your small finger was nothing but a hinderance to you at this point. When your mind was supposed to be on New York and keeping the streets safe it was instead occupied with thoughts about the stupid little string.
Everyone had one. Hell, everyone was born with one. A soul string. Only you and one other person can see your string. To everyone else it’s invisible. Like a sort of ghost others can walk through and not even notice.
The other end of it was tied to your soulmate.
Most people go out and find theirs between the time they’re twenty and thirty, others just wait for the moment to come naturally. But in the end it was a universal fact: everyone had a soulmate.
Except for you apparently.
It was either that or they had died at some point. Either way, the end of your string didn’t go anywhere. It was a faded red and only stretched a few feet in front of you before fading into nothing. It went no where.
And that’s why you were thankful only you could see your string because of others knew. . . Oh boy would you be an outcast.
Then again, you already felt like one.
“Stupid fucking thing-“ you hissed, scraping your finger along where the string was tied in a futile attempt to get it off. But like always. . . It didn’t work. Your finger phased through it as if it were nothing more than a figment of your imagination. In other words: it wasn’t on the physical plane of existence.
You don’t know why you let it bother you so much, like hell- you were a fucking web slinging superhero, what more did you need?
As of being able to tell you were caving in on yourself, the police radio next to you crackled to life.
“Yeah, we got some sort of hi-tech robotic octopus dude climbing up the side of the bank on east 48th, we need back up over here—“
A groan of annoyance left your lips as you swung your legs back onto the fire escape, pulling your mask back on before tossing the radio into your bag.
It was always fucking something.
Why didn’t the universe ever allow you just fives minutes of peace? Sometimes all you wanted was to wallow in self pity but no. New York had to keep pumping out new villains by the handful.
But at least the journey from Greenpoint to Midtown was quick. All you had to do was go down Huron Street, leap across a few moving ferries before swinging through the midtown tunnel. Practically a walk in the park.
At least it was until you got to your destination.
Despite the obnoxious amount of light pollution that New York gave off, the explosions were easy to see and so was the weird fucking guys scaling the side of the bank with. . . What were those? Tentacles.
Coming to a stop on a roof a block or so down, you observed the scene quickly, finding potential ways to bring the guy down along with potential exit strategies of things went side ways.
It was only when you were readying yourself to dive off the side of the building and begin your attack did all your movements falter. Skidding across the gravel rooftop, you stopped at the ledge, watching with wide eyes as some other. . . person grappled with the guy you were gunning for.
A person. . . Who seems to have similar abilities to you?
Beneath your mask your eyebrows knitted together in confusion as you watched the figure swing around them, dodging blows as swiftly and quickly as you did.
At the same time the faded red string around your finger faltered. The band glitching into a violent pixelated mess before resorting to its regular bland old self once more.
You really couldn’t catch a break couldn’t you?
With an annoyed shake of your head you focused your attention back to the other spider person and the tentacle guy on the wall.
You had to get closer, maybe then you could get a better look. Plus. . . Whoever they were might need help, and who were you if not someone always there to lend a helping hand.
In the end you did end up getting a better look because the second you got close you watched as the new spider person was slammed into the side of the building, one of the mechanic arms of the enemy latched tightly around them.
Your body was moving before your brain was and a second later you where sailing through the air like a dart, your foot slamming into the jaw of the criminal.
The movement was enough to shake him and with that the cows released the person in its grasp. A mask similar to your own stared back at you, it’s eyes wide as the person beneath look at you.
“What? The least I could get is a thank you.” You speak plainly, ducking a swing from the man behind you.
“Oh uh yeah, thanks.”
Trying to multitask between taking down the guy behind you and conversing with the vigilante in front of you, you paused before bringing your foot in a swift sailing arc towards your assailant, once again knocking them down a few pegs.
“You wanna tell me whit his guy is?”
“You don’t have a Doc Ock here?”
You duck another mechanic arm, moving quickly to web it firmly to the side of the building you were currently grappling on. “What do you mean here?”
“You know, this reality?”
You paused in your movements, titling your head. “What did you smoke?”
Though you couldn’t see it, you could sense the way they rolled their eyes under their mask. “Ok enough of this, just help me take down this guy and I’ll explain everything.”
There was silence for a moment as you thought it over before quickly nodding, and with that the two of you sprung into action.
In less than two minutes the attacker was down, bound firmly in webbing on the sidewalk of the bank.
“I’ve never seen this guy before. And you sounded surprised when I said that.” You folded your arms, looking down at the unconscious villian in front of you.
“I mean, most spidermen have some variant of him in their reality.” The guy next to you shrugged.
“Their reality?” Turning your head you looked at the person next to you and the blue and red spandex suit that cling to their body.
“Yeah, you know- the multiverse?”
“Bullshit. That ain’t real.”
“Oh trust me, it is.”
You raised an eyebrow underneath your mask. “Why should I trust you? I don’t even know your name.”
“You’re kidding right?”
“Does it sound like I’m kidding?”
The so called spider-man inc don’t if you sighed, hand going to his hips. “My names Peter B. Parker. I’m from a different reality. Earth 616-B to be exact.”
Despite how ridiculous he sounded your senses were telling you everything he said was true. “How did you get here?”
“A gizmo.”
“Ok now I have to call bullshit. You have something called a fucking gizmo that got you here? That sounds like something a kid would call their toy.”
At that Peter laughs. “Oh ho! That’s good, wait till I tell Miguel that someone called his devices a child’s toy. Oh I’m gonna have to record that—“
“Miguel?”
“He’s the boss man, the one who sent me here to grab that guy.” Peter points down at the unconscious Doc Ock on the ground.
“Why?”
“You ask a lot of questions.”
“Well you give me a reason to ask a lot of questions.”
There’s a pause and you can only assume that beneath his mask he mouth his hanging slightly open as he thinks. “I. . . Ok fair enough. I’ll give you that. Long story short, this guy isn’t from your reality which means that if I don’t get him back to his your whole world could start to disintegrate. We call guys like this anomalies.”
It’s your turn to be quiet, your eyes wide as you listen to him. “oH. Ok then. Yeah please get this guy out of here then.” Nodding quickly, you stepped back. “I’d rather not have my world disintegrate.”
“I’m completely agree.” Peter nodded, moving to punch a code into the device on his wrist. . . Or gizmo as he called it. You nearly jumped out of your suit a moment later when a multi colored portal whizzed open behind him, brining with it a dull sort of hum that made your spider senses stand on end. “Now if you’ll excuse me I need to get this guy back to HQ for processing before sending him home.”
You could only nod silently as your eyes stayed glued to the portal, mouth hanging slightly ajar in pure wonder. “Uh yeah- yeah.”
With a swift throw, Peter launched the unconscious Doc Ock through the portal. “It was nice meeting you fellow spider. . . ling?” He nodded as he stepped into the portal himself. “Maybe I’ll see you around again at some point.”
And with that he was gone.
And you should have left it at that. You should have just watched the portal close, turn on your heel and headed home. . . Or maybe a bar. Either or sounded like a good idea.
But you did neither.
Because hair as you were readying yourself to leave the tiny red string around your finger glitched again, the fading red line pointing in the direction of the closing portal.
You were moving before your brain was, the portal closing shut behind you, drowning you in darkness.

Who are the most dangerous countries?
Danger is pretty subjective when it comes to nations. After all they hunt their targets fairly often. But here is my list, but it could change as I flesh out more nations.
England ~ To strangers Oliver is as sweet as his cupcakes, but to those that really know him, they see the bright toxins hidden in his colorful eyes.
This strategy works best on those he eliminates for minor offenses, it’s easier for him to get closer and gather information. Once officially snagged, Oliver takes his time. Slowly slipping them laced cupcakes and watching them go mad. Before finishing them off with a satisfying hunt.
While those that get classified as major offenses suffer a much worse fate. Oliver firstly sends his rabbits out, having them report and creating paranoia. Slowly Oliver will invite himself into their life. Destroying the pillars that made it stable and turning into a face that disappears during high times and reappears like a smiling shadow at their downfall. At some point the cycle becomes too much and the victim seeks out the tormentor.
The chase leads the offender to Oliver’s cottage. The baby blue door creaks open, showing a dim hall speckled with a rainbow of pastels, calling to them. Once inside, the door closes with the softest click and the end begins with a hunt and finishes within the flames of his gas oven.
This mix of physical, spiritual, and mental games send them spiraling into Oliver’s bloodstained jaw. Which makes him one of the most dangerous of all.
Italy ~ This savvy mafioso’s charm hides his snake like cunning. Many that have fallen for his tricks don’t see the warning rattle, until the final strike of a blade’s hilt stuck in their breastbone.
Luciano enjoys the attention that comes from the smitten and gets sadistic pleasure when it comes from those that would rather see him burn. It doesn’t matter if your offense is major or minor, he will get rid of them all the same.
He will stroll into their favorite haunts, ensuring that they see him. Sitting or walking in their periphery, just enough to ensure that they look to him. Luciano will smirk as he feels their eyes rake over him like hot claws. The type of heat will affect the speed and final process.
If it is the green flame of jealousy, Luciano will drag on the peacocking while having his men undermining their plans. As the flames burn higher, it becomes a dark dance that leads the two to exchange blows. Yet, the offender can never hit and much watch as Luciano takes it all. Only when their knees have been scraped to the bloody bone by the rough concrete, chains cutting circles into their flesh does Luciano offer a ‘deal’. Swear loyalty to him and country through suicide or face a torturous death.
Should they pick the first, Luciano’s eyes will blow wide like a hunting shark as he watches them not only swear but also beg. Plead for a life that may only last a few more years. Just finish it, he will coo. But if they wait too long, then he’ll resort to the former. A long torturous death that involves not only many knives but devices that haven’t been spoken of since the days of the first pope.
Luciano will enjoy how the blue wildfire of lust destroys them from the inside. The game of hot and cold will last for weeks as Luciano tangles them into his piano wire web. Once he is sure their stuck within their obsession, they become a tool in Luciano’s arsenal. Used to blow off steam, information, altering plans to take down other traitors, and so much more.
Until one day something changes; out of use, a failure, betrayal, or he grew bored. On that day, Luciano will have end it all. A simple snap of his fingers, their dragged down to the basement. Tortured often until finally they give out. Death freeing them from their sinful pleasure.
The last fire is Luciano’s favorite, love. Its gentle warmth is easy to manipulate and cooks the most delicious emotions. This chase causes Luciano to become more direct. Sweeping them off their feet and treating them like the sweetest lover. The deeper the offender falls the easier it is for Luciano to reveal red flags. He will see how far he can take it before they fight back. Once they do it’s the end. Though, unlike the others Luciano gives them a quick death. The only reason for that is the raw emotions in that moment. The mix of betrayal and devastation are the purest in that moment he can’t stand to waste it over weeks.
So, should you meet a strange Italian man with magenta eyes. Beware and don’t give into your passions.
The North American Brothers ~ Unlike the others on this list, Allen and Matt are most dangerous as a duo. Like a pair of bachelor lions they not only cooperate well, but are quick to sabotage the other to fulfill their dreams.
When these two work together its usually the result of boredom. One is without much action and has exhausted all their other means of entertainment that lie within their borders. Thus, they help the other. Working as wolves the twins stalk their target, watching for weaknesses, learning behaviors, and leaving threats.
Those threats range from the typical cryptic letters, painted rocks thrown through windows to strangely rearranged homes and sudden solo encounters that leave the target terrified. Allen and Matt happily feast on the terror and tears as their offender struggles to hasten their plans.
The torture ends in one of two ways. First is their target’s plan is almost to the point of fruition or they become bored. No matter how it happens, the ending is the same.
The men disrupt their prey via an ambush. Any attempts of retaliation are quickly squished via the twins rampage. Their prey scuttles and squeals as it dashes off. Yet, there is no hope, even if armed. For like the bison in Yellowstone, the twins chase like wolves ready to let exhaustion weaken their prey before they go in for the kill.
When Allen and Matt work against each other it becomes a competition rather than a simple game. Points are based on a couple different categories; the damage done, amount of people taken out, and the fear struck. Each point is marked with schadenfreude as a red tally on the old, cracked, chalkboard that they have hanging in each of their homes.
This is the only situation where the target can flip the script. If they can convince the twins to focus more on sabotaging the other, then there is a chance of a temporary escape. That shared hatred of the trash human turns them into cooperation. Which spells out someone’s doom.

As media companies haggle licensing deals with artificial intelligence powerhouses like OpenAI that are hungry for training data, they’re also throwing up a digital blockade. New data shows that over 88 percent of top-ranked news outlets in the US now block web crawlers used by artificial intelligence companies to collect training data for chatbots and other AI projects. One sector of the news business is a glaring outlier, though: Right-wing media lags far behind their liberal counterparts when it comes to bot-blocking.
Data collected in mid-January on 44 top news sites by Ontario-based AI detection startup Originality AI shows that almost all of them block AI web crawlers, including newspapers like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Guardian, general-interest magazines like The Atlantic, and special-interest sites like Bleacher Report. OpenAI’s GPTBot is the most widely-blocked crawler. But none of the top right-wing news outlets surveyed, including Fox News, the Daily Caller, and Breitbart, block any of the most prominent AI web scrapers, which also include Google’s AI data collection bot. Pundit Bari Weiss’ new website The Free Press also does not block AI scraping bots.
Most of the right-wing sites didn’t respond to requests for comment on their AI crawler strategy, but researchers contacted by WIRED had a few different guesses to explain the discrepancy. The most intriguing: Could this be a strategy to combat perceived political bias? “AI models reflect the biases of their training data,” says Originality AI founder and CEO Jon Gillham. “If the entire left-leaning side is blocking, you could say, come on over here and eat up all of our right-leaning content.”
Originality tallied which sites block GPTbot and other AI scrapers by surveying the robots.txt files that websites use to inform automated web crawlers which pages they are welcome to visit or barred from. The startup used Internet Archive data to establish when each website started blocking AI crawlers; many did so soon after OpenAI announced its crawler would respect robots.txt flags in August 2023. Originality’s initial analysis focused on the top news sites in the US, according to estimated web traffic. Only one of those sites had a significantly right-wing perspective, so Originality also looked at nine of the most well-known right-leaning outlets. Out of the nine right-wing sites, none were blocking GPTBot.
Bot Biases
Conservative leaders in the US (and also Elon Musk) have expressed concern that ChatGPT and other leading AI tools exhibit liberal or left-leaning political biases. At a recent hearing on AI, Senator Marsha Blackburn recited an AI-generated poem praising President Biden as evidence, claiming that generating a similar ode to Trump was impossible with ChatGPT. Right-leaning outlets might see their ideological foes’ decisions to block AI web crawlers as a unique opportunity to redress the balance.
David Rozado, a data scientist based in New Zealand who developed an AI model called RightWingGPT to explore bias he perceived in ChatGPT, says that’s a plausible-sounding strategy. “From a technical point of view, yes, a media company allowing its content to be included in AI training data should have some impact on the model parameters,” he says.
However, Jeremy Baum, an AI ethics researcher at UCLA, says he’s skeptical that right-wing sites declining to block AI scraping would have a measurable effect on the outputs of finished AI systems such as chatbots. That’s in part because of the sheer volume of older material AI companies have already collected from mainstream news outlets before they started blocking AI crawlers, and also because AI companies tend to hire liberal-leaning employees.
“A process called reinforcement learning from human feedback is used right now in every state-of-the-art model,” to fine-tune its responses, Baum says. Most AI companies aim to create systems that appear neutral. If the humans steering the AI see an uptick of right-wing content but judge it to be unsafe or wrong, they could undo any attempt to feed the machine a certain perspective.
OpenAI spokesperson Kayla Wood says that in pursuit of AI models that “deeply represent all cultures, industries, ideologies, and languages” the company uses broad collections of training data. “Any one sector—including news—and any single news site is a tiny slice of the overall training data, and does not have a measurable effect on the model’s intended learning and output,” she says.
Rights Fights
The disconnect in which news sites block AI crawlers could also reflect an ideological divide on copyright. The New York Times is currently suing OpenAI for copyright infringement, arguing that the AI upstart’s data collection is illegal. Other leaders in mainstream media also view this scraping as theft. Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch recently said at a Senate hearing that many AI tools have been built with “stolen goods.” (WIRED is owned by Condé Nast.) Right-wing media bosses have been largely absent from the debate. Perhaps they quietly allow data scraping because they endorse the argument that data scraping to build AI tools is protected by the fair use doctrine?
For a couple of the nine right-wing outlets contacted by WIRED to ask why they permitted AI scrapers, their responses pointed to a different, less ideological reason. The Washington Examiner did not respond to questions about its intentions but began blocking OpenAI’s GPTBot within 48 hours of WIRED’s request, suggesting that it may not have previously known about or prioritized the option to block web crawlers.
Meanwhile, the Daily Caller admitted that its permissiveness toward AI crawlers had been a simple mistake. “We do not endorse bots stealing our property. This must have been an oversight, but it's being fixed now,” says Daily Caller cofounder and publisher Neil Patel.
Right-wing media is influential, and notably savvy at leveraging social media platforms like Facebook to share articles. But outlets like the Washington Examiner and the Daily Caller are small and lean compared to establishment media behemoths like The New York Times, which have extensive technical teams.
Data journalist Ben Welsh keeps a running tally of news websites blocking AI crawlers from OpenAI, Google, and the nonprofit Common Crawl project whose data is widely used in AI. His results found that approximately 53 percent of the 1,156 media publishers surveyed block one of those three bots. His sample size is much larger than Originality AI’s and includes smaller and less popular news sites, suggesting outlets with larger staffs and higher traffic are more likely to block AI bots, perhaps because of better resourcing or technical knowledge.
At least one right-leaning news site is considering how it might leverage the way its mainstream competitors are trying to stonewall AI projects to counter perceived political biases. “Our legal terms prohibit scraping, and we are exploring new tools to protect our IP. That said, we are also exploring ways to help ensure AI doesn’t end up with all of the same biases as the establishment press,” Daily Wire spokesperson Jen Smith says. As of today, GPTBot and other AI bots were still free to scrape content from the Daily Wire.

Ranammal gluxem.
(Glux)
Stats
Height: 1.5 - 2.3 ft.
Weight: 20 - 25 lbs.
Length: 3 - 3.5 ft.
Speed: 25 mph.
Lifespan: 10 - 13 years.
Conservation status: LC.
Description: A unique biodiversity of wildlife blossoms within the tropical ecosystems of zerottakída, offering an excellent display of nature. Beyond the trees that line a forest is a lush sanctuary painted in green, sheltering plenty of bizarre, colorful, and often deadly fauna. Dashing swiftly through a forests thickets are nimble prey who have honed their survival strategies over centuries, and continue to evolve with the ever-changing environment. Meet ranammal gluxem: the common glux. Glux are an abundant species of amphibian that populate rainforests. These animals have a wide distribution across vidine and into vinevofort, but subspecies can be found in other regions within zerottakída. Common glux stand at roughly 1.5 - 2.3 feet, while measuring about 3 feet in length. Glux are lightweight, weighing just shy of 25 lbs. The most striking visual of the common glux is their baby blue feathers, which nearly coat the entire body. Complementing these feathers are plumages of pink centered around the face and dorsal regions. Glux boast an assortment of complex patterns, ranging from white stripes to pink spots. The tail is primarily white, with a pink underside.
Glux come armed with two pairs of hooked pectoral claws, of which they use to scale trees. A glux may climb to forage for fruit or to pursue a prey item, but in some instances a glux will climb to avoid a predator. Climbing is not their only survival tactic however, located just behind the hips are two specialized glands that secrete an oily substance. The secretion in question contains trace amounts of a potent toxin which, when ingested, can cause inflation to the digestive system. Furthermore, just touching a feather imbued with this secretion can cause irritation to the skin, and has an absolutely foul taste to boot. Glux will smother their feathers with this secretion to become unappetizing; thus deterring predators from pursuing them as prey.
As mentioned previously, glux are amphibious creatures and not birds — despite what their avian appearance may lead you to believe. Glux begin life as water breathing larvae swarming the river beds. These tadpoles will latch onto any surface and use a sturdy radula to scrape off organic particles to consume. Glux tadpoles will gradually accumulate body mass within the first two weeks of their lives, before entering one of two important metamorphoses. This metamorphosis will mark the start to their transition from water to land, as they begin to grow legs. To start, glux will develop two robust hind legs equipped with a pair of webbed feet. Development on their pectoral claws will also begin, however at this stage they have blunt tips. Lastly, the glux — now 'glutax' — will now have a stunted beak along with a much broader tail. This new body plan allows the glutax to traverse land for short periods of time; enabling them to pursue new prey items such as insects. Glutax cannot remain out of water for longer than an hour, as they risk drying out their mucus coated skin. Glutax primarily prey on small fish and amphibians, however. After another 4 week period, the glutax will begin its final metamorphosis to transition into the feathered, primarily land-dwelling amphibian we‘re all too familiar with.
Glux are gregarious animals who congregate most at dawn, following a crepuscular schedule. For the most part, glux prefer non-vocal communication in the form of beating their tails rhythmically. A glux may also emit a clicking sound with their beak to draw attention to itself. When threatened, glux will ruffle their feathers and chirp.

I watched Madame Web
Fuck that was bad
I stopped caring about the plot about halfway in
I've never seen a movie so tonally at odds with itself. The cinematography and flat acting feel like they're meant for a script with a different tone and premise altogether. This is a deeply dour screenplay about an orphaned woman and three minors being stalked by a psychopath who casually murders an NSA agent in bed, and it comes off like a watered-down Netflix action-comedy without jokes and little action
No really I have to harp on the acting here, when the entire cast, several of whom have been known to put in good performances in other movies, all speak in the same cutesy, mildly-annoyed tone the entire movie, that's a problem with the director/script, not the cast.
The editing veers from "boilerplate 2000s b-thriller" to "My brain refuses to parse the geography of what just happened"
there are shots where the color grading and framing can best be described as looking very, very off. This movie is attempting to look slick and stylish, but it pursues this goal in a simultaneously undercooked and overdone way that my brain refuses to explicitly verbalize. The best I can say right now is that it looks like if Matthew Vaughn puked over a Wong Kar-Wai remaster
What's truly impressive about Madame Web's ineptitude is that in trying to make a retro-2000s thriller, they perfectly recreated what terrible b-grade cape movies of that era were like. It's Bad 00s Movie Simulator made entirely by accident.
I'm sure that sexism had something to do with the collective overreaction this movie got, but let's be real, even bracketing out the simmering misogyny within geek-bro culture, this is still just a bad movie that got loudly shoved down our collective throats, just like Morbius. The internet was always going to viciously mock it accordingly, especially given that we are officially at the Popping Of The Cape Bubble
You know, I actually want to elaborate on the above. Yes, there's sexism involved in how some of these recent women-led cape movies are received, but I think to say that sexism is the only factor here is reductive. In fact, given the broader context of what's happening here, I don't think it's even the primary factor here. The enthusiastic reception of Wonder Woman in 2017 shows that a woman-led cape movie doesn't have to suffer this sort of reception. Strong female leads in movies are not new, and have been accepted for a long while - just think back to Alien or Terminator. We're at the tail end of a cinematic trend that's been going for close to two decades, and this movie is part of a larger problem with Marvel/Sony trying to scrape the bottom of the IP barrel. All the famous characters in their vault have been used up and overexposed to death, and now they're making a series of desperate hail-mary passes in an attempt to pull another surprise hit like Iron Man. The machine is sputtering, audiences are sick of this genre being flooded with subpar corporate products meant to race against time for a return on investment. This isn't a sexism problem, this is an economics problem that loud sexists are dogpiling on and exacerbating in a cynical attempt to push their own narrative, so that they can force the conversation to be about women and gender, and have it be on their terms. It's not helping in the slightest that self-described "feminists" are taking their framing of the issue for granted isn't helping. Baiting alt-right incels and intersectional feminists on the internet is, at this point, basically a new marketing strategy these movies and shows use, and it politically helps weird misogynistic freaks by letting them dictate the terms of debate.
I laughed my ass off when the truck hit that guy

Amazon Product Review Data Scraping | Scrape Amazon Product Review Data
Tumblr media
In the vast ocean of e-commerce, Amazon stands as an undisputed titan, housing millions of products and catering to the needs of countless consumers worldwide. Amidst this plethora of offerings, product reviews serve as guiding stars, illuminating the path for prospective buyers. Harnessing the insights embedded within these reviews can provide businesses with a competitive edge, offering invaluable market intelligence and consumer sentiment analysis.
In the realm of data acquisition, web scraping emerges as a potent tool, empowering businesses to extract structured data from the labyrinthine expanse of the internet. When it comes to Amazon product review data scraping, this technique becomes particularly indispensable, enabling businesses to glean actionable insights from the vast repository of customer feedback.
Understanding Amazon Product Review Data Scraping
Amazon product review data scraping involves the automated extraction of reviews, ratings, and associated metadata from Amazon product pages. This process typically entails utilizing web scraping tools or custom scripts to navigate through product listings, access review sections, and extract relevant information systematically.
The Components of Amazon Product Review Data:
Review Text: The core content of the review, containing valuable insights, opinions, and feedback from customers regarding their experience with the product.
Rating: The numerical or star-based rating provided by the reviewer, offering a quick glimpse into the overall satisfaction level associated with the product.
Reviewer Information: Details such as the reviewer's username, profile information, and sometimes demographic data, which can be leveraged for segmentation and profiling purposes.
Review Date: The timestamp indicating when the review was posted, aiding in trend analysis and temporal assessment of product performance.
The Benefits of Amazon Product Review Data Scraping
1. Market Research and Competitive Analysis:
By systematically scraping Amazon product reviews, businesses can gain profound insights into market trends, consumer preferences, and competitor performance. Analyzing the sentiment expressed in reviews can unveil strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the market landscape, guiding strategic decision-making processes.
2. Product Enhancement and Innovation:
Customer feedback serves as a treasure trove of suggestions and improvement opportunities. By aggregating and analyzing product reviews at scale, businesses can identify recurring themes, pain points, and feature requests, thus informing product enhancement strategies and fostering innovation.

Chill the fuck out, deviantART did a REALLY good thing.
No. Seriously. I did not expect to wake up to "deviantART invented a protocol to allow people to opt out of having their art used in AI training datasets" today. I genuinely was afraid something like that was going to take a lot longer. The finer details about the rollout strategy sucked, yeah, but that's about normal for dA...you'd think they'd learn better after years and years and years of every TOS update, major or minor, resulting in people flipping shit about them claiming enough right over your work to display it on a social art website as designed, but it can be like that with websites sometimes.
Because, here's the thing, the big ethical problem we had before, is that there was no way to opt out before. Posting shit damned near anywhere on the internet was, by default, treated as implicit consent. Which is not as evil as it sounds - again, despite a lot of claims, image generation AI is not "just a collage machine" any more than Photoshop is, until you get into the loudest and cruelest users it's a lot more comparable to how an art student would do studies and the big ethical question about it centers on how it can do those studies so much faster than a human and it's not very hard to use the right prompts to plagiarize and the machine doesn't know the difference between that and just figuring out how colors and brushstrokes work - but it is bad. There's no way around that, it's an absolute mess and really shouldn't be the way things run at this point in time, but that just gets into a whole can of worms about how the technology started and relative scales and all kinds of other factors that we don't have time to get into.
We have an opt out button now. We didn't before. This is big.
The ONLY real fuck-up is that...they ALWAYS fuck up the phrasing of these updates, don't they? Plus, defaulting to "turning implicit consent into explicit consent" was the method that would functionally change the least, yes, but also might have been the stupidest way possible when it comes to human behavior and etiquette. If I have a preference, especially a relatively common one, that someone NOT do something, even if they otherwise expect to be allowed to do it most places - say, "please don't wear this specific perfume when we get together" - I'd be pretty pissed if someone suddenly taped a sign to my forehead that EXPLICITLY said "ALL PERFUMES OK AROUND ME" and expected me to dig through a drawer of alternate signs to communicate otherwise, plus defaulting to EXPLICIT consent when a lot of the web is still operating on undeclared, hotly contested, ethically dubious implicit consent makes it sound like scraping data from people who have openly said "I wish I could opt out, is there a way to do that? Because I really want it, opt me out now" but haven't hit the right toggle yet is BETTER than scraping from other sources when you're compiling a dataset. So, that was stupid, and I'm glad they changed it.
But ultimately? This is good. We have an opt out flag. WE HAVE AN OPT OUT FLAG. This should be the bottom line we're all focusing on here. We have an opt out flag that is ENCODED INTO THE RELEVANT PAGE HEADERS. AND SEVERAL AI DEVELOPERS ARE RUSHING TO PROGRAM IN RESPECT FOR IT. THIS IS HUGE AND GOOD.
