3rd Week of change, I'm back to stuck.
The last two weeks I was very motivated and on to changing and getting a better and healthier lifestyle. But falling to the 3rd week, my whole body feels weak and lazy. I get these sort of feeling, since I have high chances of burning out easily as a lazy and inconsistent person. I still need to do my best for the next week.

Dear Journal,
This week was my first week of classes here at URI. One of my classes that I am taking is Web Designing and Programming. My intentions behind taking this course are to learn how to build websites for small businesses and maybe even one of my own some day. Although it’s typical that the initial first class does not have a particularly heavy work load, there was still a lot of knowledge to be gained! I learned a lot through reading the first online text we were assigned, “How to Become a Web Developer”. This article covered everything from the basics - what is web development? - to more in-depth topics like frontend, backend, and full stack developers’ job descriptions’. Web development is the process of establishing websites and applications for the internet, strictly involving the coding and programming of which helps the website to function. This is what goes on behind the scenes of a website. A web developer is “the builder or engineer” of a production. On the other hand, there are web designers; the people who are in charge of the production and maintenance of how a website visually looks. Typically, they are deemed the “architects” of a project.
Something I enjoyed about this reading was being surprised by how many components there actually are behind web development - talk about complex! There are 3 main titles of people who work within this industry. The first are called frontend developers. They are responsible for coding a website, bringing the web designer’s designs to life using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, and ensuring responsive designs. The second are backend developers, whom build and maintain the technology needed to run the frontend, ensure that everything the frontend developer builds is functional, and create and manage the database. Lastly, full stack developers. They are experts in both backend and frontend development, guides within strategies and best practices, and have adequate experience within both business logic and user experience.
Want to know a fun fact that I discovered this week? In 1969, the first ever internet message was sent. Charlie Kline at UCLA “tried to send the word ‘login’ to a computer at the Stanford Research Institute via the ARPANET network,” (How to Become) and although it crashed after the first two letters, eventually the system rebooted and the rest of the message was delivered. Fast forward to today, it’s quite amazing what we have accomplished online. The Internet World Stats website states that as of June 2019, nearly 4.5 billion people on the planet use the internet. That’s about half of the world’s population. Web development is important because it is a way to put your business on the map for many different people to discover and gain interest in, enlarging your customer base and therefore, benefiting you. I’m looking forward to the rest of the semester and, hopefully, gaining some of the skills within the article “How to Become a Web Designer”.
I love graphic design and creating things that are visually satisfying. I wonder if we will be doing any projects within this course that I could incorporate some art into? That would be awesome!!!

There are a lot of advantages to self publishing over traditional publishing, To be a successful author, it needs hard work! Self publishing requires you to have knowledge of every aspect of the publishing process, like designing, formatting, and marketing. Platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing make self publishing accessible to everyone, but it can feel overwhelming to independent authors. What do you need to use Amazon KDP? What technical skills do we need to meet Amazon KDP requirements? How to promote our book? Here are seven tips and tricks to hack Amazon’s self publishing platform and be a successful author. 1. Make Your Book's Title and Description Perfect: Weekly Reflection A good Amazon book title and description are important for your book to rank well on Seo. Your book description gives readers a taste and overview of your writing skills and tells them exactly what to expect when they buy your journal or planner . Your journal title and description should look professional. A poorly written description have huge impact on sales. Run your blurb through a grammar checker to check for mistakes and readability. Aim for a genre-appropriate, specific set of rich keywords. Weekly Reflection We’ll talk more about keywords in the next section. Amazon will allow you to use HTML formatting on your descriptions, so get the benefit of this awesome feature. You will be able to organize your keywords. 2. Use long-tail keywords like Weekly Reflection . One of the most important aspects to getting ranked on Amazon self publishing is the seven keyword boxes. They allow you to add up to forty-nine characters. A keyword is a word or phrase that people type into the top search box on Amazon to find a specific journal or planner... You need to focus on specific long-tail keywords. Instead of a broad, short-tail keyword, you might enter Weekly Reflection (a specific long-tail keyword). You can research these using a keyword research tool like Google Keyword Planner Tool, hire an expert in KDP categories and keywords, or simply search for them manually by yourself. Look for keywords that give you only a few results, not thousands, to beat your competition. 3. Choose Extra Categories Amazon KDP has preset categories for books, and it’s hard to choose the best one for your work. When you upload your journal or planner interior, you can select two Amazon categories. Your book might fit into multiple categories. You can also increase your chances of being a bestseller in a category when you choose less competitive categories. A little secret : you can add additional categories with these simple tips : If you can call KDP customer service, KDP will allow you up to eight more categories, for a grand total of ten!
4. Purchase a High-Quality Designed Cover The first thing that Amazon visitors see is your book’s cover. A high quality cover can make a big difference and impact your sales numbers. There are a ton of elements that impact whether a book cover is engaging. Various classifications have different expectations. A basic cover does not take into account genre trends and expectations. A nonfiction book should not look like a kid's activity book or vice versa. Unless you’re an experienced graphic designer, avoid using tools offered by Amazon. Find an experienced designer who is familiar with your theme and check their portfolio. Try to reach out to other authors for recommendations, or browse Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to find a freelance designer who works with other authors. 5. Emphasize covers and interior design. The quickest way to a one-star review is an ugly book cover or interior. When your print book format is a mess, Amazon's visitors will move on to the next competitor. Don’t gloss over this step. There is a lot of software, like Canva, Photoshop, or Illustrator, that allows you to format your book and make it look professional. You can also outsource your formatting to an expert. In our case, the Weekly Reflection is already formatted for KDP, so you will save a lot of time and money. 6. Adjust Prices for International Markets When you publish a journal or planner on Amazon KDP, make sure that you adjust the price accordingly .99 : This is a marketing psychology that works on any markets. If KDP adjusts the price automatically for other markets, You can manually change it to international prices, however. You can add a .99 to the end of each price for each currency. And keep your eyes on royalty rates. You should also monitor the pricing boundaries for 30% and 70% royalties for each currency. 7. Becoming an Affiliate for Your Own Book Promote affiliate links for your own book and earn 70% royalties! Use your Amazon affiliate link on social media, website links, and anywhere else you can think of. Your amazon affiliate link allows you to earn additional 4% on the selling price of your book. It seems like not much, but that additional 4% can add up quickly with enough sales. Keep in mind that you only get this income when someone buys through your affiliate Amazon link, not from Amazon's search box. Finally, make Amazon KDP your friend; Using tips and tricks like these can assist you in succeeding on Amazon KDP.

WEEK 7.0
This week actually went very well. I got new productions and it feels like a clean slate. Now, like Liesbeth said, I can really try to get something out of it. To make sure I leave my mark and enjoy working on it again. I'm currently working on a collage, an article and a teaser. I really like making  collages because I have an eye for it. I have an eye for design but mainly for images. When it comes to text, I notice that it's always a bit more difficult for me, because it still has to remain readable. Now I can just totally do my thing and take images out of context. The article, garment personality test, can be designed in an indesign file, this is very nice because this way I don't have to take into account the limited options on the website.

WEEK 6 REFLECTION
Evaluate any research that you have done which has had a big impact on your ideas/work?
During the week lots of research into woodblock artists had been done, seeing what kind of work is possible through woodblock was inspiring to me and I looked forward to creating my own despite the challenge I felt it’d be compared to lino. Analyse the practical work that that you have completed this week – what materials/processes/techniques have you used? Why? What have you learnt?
I’ve learned how to design a woodcut, flip it so the text is the correct way using the photocopier, transfer it onto the wood using carbon paper, cut the wood and print it.
How have you pushed the practical tasks independently?
Developing my woodcut designs through drawing over photocopies and creating entirely new work from them. What practical problems have you faced and solved this week?
Because I decided my design should be something as fiddly as a face with small features such as nostrils, I didn’t want to cut these too big and this resulted in the cuts not being deep enough in that general area and the mouth not showing after a couple prints due to being filled with ink.

Weekly Reflection 4
10/4/19
Dear Journal,
This week in my COM/CSC 271 class we continued to work more with making our websites look similar to our wireframes, as well as gaining information on image formatting. I am beginning to really get into the gist of things - meaning - learning how to properly and effectively program my website using CSS and HTML, and actually making it look GOOD! A challenge that I faced for the majority of this week was how to position images on my website accordingly so that they would line up next to each other in a perfect line, and since then... I haven’t made much progress (lol - will be asking the professor about this on Monday). One thing I forgot to do when originally programming my site was put the class” attributes before specific elements so that I could work on them using CSS. So a lot of the time, I would have to go back and make a class for them.
When originally programming my site, I also struggled with remembering all the HTML and CSS codes that would allow me to make my website look as close to my wireframe as possible. The trick was that I needed to write things down to remember them. I also forgot to make my website accessible using the tab navigation, so I had to go back and figure out how to implement that onto my website for accessibility flow. As for image formatting, I used a lot of my original photos that were already formatted, so I did not spend a heck of a lot of time on working on this.
This YouTube tutorial really helped me step by step when doing my logo and banner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_skOPBsYZE check it out!

Week 2.
London project was carrying on, and so was our museum tours. The visit on Monday was very engaging not only because of the exhibitions, but the road drawing technique and the fantastic scenery along the way. I enjoyed standing on the overpass, listening to the ancient and modern buildings narrating about their own stories.
The architecture around the Barbican Centre has taken my breath away. The ubiquitous and consistent use of geometrical shapes has given the building a futuristic and brutal feeling. With the presence of water and plants, the harmony of nature and geometric concrete reminded me of Le Corbusier.
Moving on to the next stage of the London project, apart from a short film that I made comparing the past and present situations of the red telephone box, I decided to further bring people’s attention to the “dying” telephone box by letting them know the exact feeling of demolishing precious objects on their own. Delicate models are made by me for the viewers to break or even smash it. My objective will be achieved as long as they are experiencing a sense of sympathy when seeing this models being spoiled, because that is what the telephone boxes are undergoing currently. As a gift, they can take the relics back home, keeping reminding them of those suffering telephone boxes.
A map of central London with paperboard pins, which resemble red gravestones, to mark the locations of red telephone box will be displayed. I am hoping that as time goes by, the “gravestones” pins can be removed, showing that the telephone boxes are cleaned, refurbished or at least being taken good care of by people and community.
For the following week, models made of cellophanes and wattles will be crafted, and I hope that it will bring some impact on the audience’s thinking.
