Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! Walt Disney liked a lot of things. Escapism, creativity, innovation, control, fairy tales, Cuban cigars and so on and so forth. One thing he really liked though was trains. Man, loved his trains. So much so that he had a one-eighth scale rideable railway in his backyard entitled the Carolwood Pacific. However, while the railroads in every single flagship park are sterling reminders of that love, no location in all the Disney parks is more steeped in that passion than the Carolwood Pacific Room (also known as the Iron Spike Room or the Train Room.) This lounge, tucked away in the corner of the Wilderness Lodge's Boulder Ridge Villas lobby, combines the resort's hyper rustic Pacific Northwest game lodge aesthetic with the image and presence of steam locomotives. Pictures of trains, model trains, the image of a cartoonish train on the fireplace grid, and two cars of the Lilly Belle, the one-eighth scale train that rode across the Carolwood Pacific. There are even pictures of Walt alongside train cars and his club of train fanboys. Beyond all the trains though is something special when it comes to Walt Disney World: a quiet, tucked away space where one can get away from the hustle and bustle of the parks, play some checkers, and maybe take a nap in some of the comfiest chairs on property. In short, this lounge is 100% wonderful and 100% chill which is hilarious because steam engines and fireplaces get rather hot.

Mein Herz bricht jedes Mal, wenn Justus in der Folge „Im Schatten des Giganten” von einem Querschläger am Oberschenkel getroffen wird. Als ich die Folge zum ersten Mal gehört habe, war ich echt etwas geschockt.

Ich finde die Vorstellung allein schon gruselig, dass da abends im Wald, im Schatten eines riesigen Berges in der Dunkelheit jemand hockt und mich mit einem Tier verwechselt.

Ich kann mir gar nicht ausmalen, wie viel Angst unsere Detektive, Randy und Bobs Dad, Bill hatten, als sie die Schüsse hörten.

Und als dann auch noch Justus schreit und zu Boden fällt? Und sie sich auf den Waldboden werfen und hinter einen Felsen robben müssen, um sich aus der Schusslinie zu bringen? Während Justus blutet und die ganze Zeit Schmerzenslaute von sich gibt, aber niemand nachsehen kann, da es stockdunkel ist und sie sich erst in Sicherheit bringen müssen? Und dann der ganze Teil, in dem Randy mit dem Taschenmesser den Stoff von Justus Hose aufschneidet, um sich die blutende Wunde anzusehen?

Bob, der als Erstes nach Justus schreit, nachdem er hört, dass der Erste getroffen wurde. Und der Angst hat, dass die Jäger sie hinter dem Felsen entdecken, wenn sie die Taschenlampe benutzen.

Justus, der leise vor Schmerz keucht und flüstert: „Ah, ich sterbe.”

Bill, der völlig überfordert ist und will, dass die Jungs heil aus der Situation heraus kommen. Und sich gleichzeitig die Schuld gibt, dass Justus verletzt ist. Weil er auf diesem Trip dafür verantwortlich ist, dass ihnen nichts passiert.

Randy, der in dieser absoluten Notlage ruhig bleiben muss und den Erwachsenen spielt, obwohl man merkt, dass er selbst Angst hat.

Und Peter, der innerhalb von Sekunden nachdem der erste Schuss fällt, sofort handelt und schreit: „Runter!” Wenn er nicht so schnell gehandelt hätte, wären sie vielleicht nicht so glimpflich davon gekommen.

Die ganze Szene ist so intense. Jedes Mal, wenn ich das höre, spüre ich nur eine Portion der Angst, die die fünf in dem Moment gespürt haben müssen.

Was haben die nur für ein Leben? Also, echt. Ich wunder mich nicht mehr, dass Peter schon ein Testament verfasst hat.

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! So I was thinking about writing a post about Log Cabins because log cabins are cool, rustic, and kind of holiday-ey. Then, I thought "How about one that is massive, as in really big?" And then I thought "How about one with its own indoor stream, a geyser, the rowdiest family-style restaurant on the east coast, a character meal centered entirely around Snow White (Rest in peace, Artist Point), a giant fire pit, a room dedicated to Walt Disney's love of trains, bunches and bunches of Native American and Pacific Northwest art pieces and more?" My next thought was "Man, I could really go for some hot chocolate" followed by "That sounds a lot like the Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World which is also agreed to be the best Disney Resort to stay in at Christmas time." I said this to myself in exactly this manner and wrote up this post. And now we are here in the present time and I still haven't made my hot chocolate yet. Really like the Wilderness Lodge though. Truly deserving of the wonderful moniker.
