Tell me that’s not some Indiana Jones sh*t. ⬆️👀 You’d have no idea this airplane was tucked away in the jungle near Pillcopata, Peru, without savvy local friends. Best enjoyed over a morning hike, this spot gets a 10/10 from me! Where’s the coolest hike you’ve ever taken? 🙏

VERSIONS OF YOU
Tumblr media
A few nights ago, I had a concerning thought while trying to fall asleep.
“Maybe you’ve got your hand in too many pies.”
This thought made me feel a bit shamed and frustrated and a vision of myself as a Barbie doll, with different boxed versions of me came to mind: Tia, the traveler Tia the travel agent Tia, the English teacher Tia, the e-commerce owner, Tia, the singer Tia, the songwriter Tia, the journaler
In my mind, it didn’t look so bad. In fact, it was kind of comical but I wondered still, “Am I doing any of this well? Should I perhaps consider choosing one thing and focus on it?”
This brought to mind my mother who once remarked that she didn’t think people who do more than one thing were really good at it. Or maybe she said they couldn’t be good at it. I really can’t recall which one but the message I received was “master one thing and leave the other stuff alone.”
I don’t know if that’s what she meant. But it made me think about what I've been up to for the last 5-7 years and how all my life experiences and opportunities (and the advancements in technology) have led me to pursue multi-interests.
Well, the good ole algorithm was working on my behalf that evening because an old video resurfaced on my YouTube feed. I watched it and it reminded me that it’s okay to have more than one thing going on.
The next morning, I concluded that we live in an age where so many of us can afford to invest in exploring our multifaceted selves. So why not? This made me feel a little more certain that I was on the right path.
Looking a bit closer now, I've noted that all those labels are pretty closely related to one another if you are familiar with my journey.
From high school, I studied classical voice, training in 5 different languages for 7 years. I learned much about the cultural aspects of music and languages and I consider that to have been my initial education before stepping on foreign soil.
I worked as a singer at sea soon after which was the vehicle that led me to opportunities to creatively write, perform, and collaborate with artists I met in different countries. (My dream-come-true at that time.) Working in hospitality also brought me into contact with wise, frequent travelers who cruised or worked onboard and had been to places I had yet to visit. They informed me about the range of offerings in the travel industry that are quite wide and still expanding.
My love of reading and writing from adolescence to adulthood led me to teaching English after retiring and assisting my international students in building their language skills which has been a pleasure and an honor. Each of them have given me the opportunity to travel so much further and grow within.
Not sure if my mother would agree or if she would have changed her tune if she could see me now but who knows? I’m sure she’d be proud anyway.
So, that's my story. And you? How many versions of you are out there in the world that exemplify your journey?

The travel hack you AREN’T using SAVE THIS POST ➡️ While I love exploring a new location on foot, I *also* love getting a sky-high perspective so that I have a lay of the land before sightseeing. 👀 Tons of people miss this easy travel hack! The best way to get a view of Reykjavík, Iceland's picturesque capital, is to head to Hallgrímmskirkja church, pop into the foyer gift shop, spend 1400 ISK (around $10 USD) for an adult ticket to enter the the bell tower, and head up the elevator from there. ⬆️ After a ride up several floors, you’ll exit the elevator, climb some stairs, and find yourself greeted by breath-taking views of the colorful city below and the ocean beyond! ❤️💙💚 🔔 Bonus: if you time your visit right, you may just be there when the church bells toll… just be sure to plug your ears since the bells are right overhead! 🙃

My Hero
I’m in a different place these days - physically, mentally, and spiritually. I am recalling a conversation I had with my aunt in New York a few weeks ago. She called me resilient. When she did, for the first time ever, I felt genuine pride in being called that. After 3 decades, I feel I have the right to claim it. I shied away from that description for a number of years because I didn’t feel I deserved it. I had spent a number of years battling a variety of storms in my life so it wasn’t a word I really felt ringing true to my core.
Now, I’ve sailed on and beyond what was and into the sea of acceptance. I’m looking back and feeling pride in having overcome and made it through.
Nothing is perfect.
Nothing is as I’d hoped but… I’m still here.
There are many things that I am not and that I still don’t have but… I own the woman I’ve become and I am so in love with her. She’s my hero. *smile*
