Moles spend almost all their time under ground, but this one just was chilling up top for a while. He posed, I took a few pics. I like to think he's still under there, eating the slugs that would eat my plants. And that he knows we're cool. I respect his slug eating. He respects my slug attracting.

Contrasting garden and backdrop. The small, raised bed, the rectangular shape of the lawn and the shapes, forms and flower colors of the plants chosen deliberately separate the existing garden from its woodland setting. The cultivated garden appears to be a protected, exotic area.

Plant of the Day
Monday 20 May 2024
In this garden clumps of Anemone nemorosa ‘Vestal’ (wood anemone) were flowering and brightening the woodland floor before the canopy of leaves unfurl above and remove the light. These plants die down in summer to a rhizome and thrive in dappled shade.

Nestled within the cozy hollow of a tree, a family of mushrooms basks in the subtle light. It's like a secret garden, uncovered in the heart of the woods.
