Writing tools I find really useful and I love
Dictionary.com - essential, and has its sister site Thesaurus built into it
OneLook Thesaurus - Reverse search! Search a concept and looking for a word
Wiktionary - another dictionary, but really comprehensive like Wikipedia. It’s got etymology and translations and you can search in any language!
Idioms at FreeDictionary - if you’re like me and English is not your first language, sometimes you’re not sure if the phrases you’re using is right. This clears thing up!
TTSREADER - text-to-speech, so you can listen to what you wrote! Very great for catching errors and making sure you've got the rhythm you want. Free, online, can support up to 5000+ words
Voice Dream - another text-to-speech app, on Google Play and Apple Store. Copy/paste anything, and it’ll even save it for you. This one I personally use and I absolutely love, but it costs money.
WordCountTool - Copy/Paste text, and it’ll give you statistics on number of repeated words, longest sentences, readability levels. I love this site.
http://www.spwickstrom.com/writer/ - Great grammar tips, and a very lovely and comprehensive collection of alternative words for ‘said’.
PrintFriendly - Browser extension that allows you to make any webpage in PDF form, print-friendly. Sometimes, if you’re quick enough, you can get load the PDF of a news article before paywall blocks you. 👀If not, you can at least still get an image and like the first paragraph.
DescriptiveWords - All the adjectives you need
RhymeZone - For finding words that rhyme!
Literary Devices - Learn literary devices! There’s poems that’s been analyzed and explanations of famous phrases.
BehindTheName - I think everyone has heard of this website already? Still, you can use it to find the meaning of names and surnames for your characters
Feelings and Emotions: pain, physical distress, sensations, feelings, emotions, more emotions, action verbs

Note
I pretty much only write fics on my phone, and it’s pretty easy. Just type it all up in whatever app you prefer, but you may want to shift it to another app to edit. I use notes and then either google docs, wordcounttools online, or my email. Since it’s a smaller space you’ll probably want to look at it in a different font or with different spacing so it’s easier to notice any typos or add in any formatting you’re missing.
It can be difficult to post onto ao3 from mobile, I’m not sure why, so if you can you might want to save your fic in email drafts or somehign else you can access on a computer and post it from there.
Question: has anyone written a fic on their phone? If so how is it?
I know people who do, but I am not one of those people. I need to be able to see more than one paragraph at a time. Also, autocorrect is an evil invention and ducks have no place in a sex scene.

[RESOURCE] Word Count Tool
I mentioned in class that you can determine the readability level of a text for grade level. The measurement is the Flesch-Kincaid readability which uses a formula based on number of syllables, words, and sentences in a text. Read more at Flesch-Kincaid readability tests on Wikipedia. This website is a great resource for metrics like word count, readability, estimated reading and speaking times, and even keyword density.
