Continuation of this
Buck checks himself out for the tenth time in the mirror. He knows he looks good, but maybe he doesn't look right for trivia night? Dark jeans, his favorite boots, teal sweater... Maybe the sweater is the wrong top. Pulling it off and tossing it on top of the pile that's already on his bed, he grabs his phone and calls his sister.
"Maddie, tell me what to wear on a date to impress Tommy's friends." He pauses briefly. "Indoors, bar, trivia night."
It takes three agonizing seconds before Maddie answers. "The gray crew neck, paired with the rust-colored leather jacket or the brown suede, it brings out your complexion, and I want daisies as a thank you when you come by next."
"Thank you, I love you, say hi to Chim and Jee."
"Use protection!" Maddie gets one in just before Buck hangs up. He rolls his eyes at his phone but grins anyway as he tucks a condom into his back pocket. He might get lucky. He chooses the suede.
-
Tommy picks him up and kisses him sweetly, like they're about to go on a date instead of meeting Tommy's friends who are totally going to judge the hell out of Buck if he screws up Trivia Night.
"You look so good, I'm tempted to ditch them and take you someplace nice," Tommy murmurs against Buck's mouth.
"And have them say I'm a figment of your imagination? Nope. Plus, I dressed up to impress them," says Buck, smiling, giddy from his boyfriend's - boyfriend! Buck is never getting over that word - praise. "Well, Maddie helped to dress me. Wait that came out wrong. I meant, she helped to choose what I should wear. Did you know that royalty and nobility had, like, specific staff who helped to choose what they wore? The women were ladies-in-waiting and they were usually nobility, but of a lower station, and sometimes they were also available as sex partners to the king or the duke or prince or whatever. It's pretty exploitative, when you think about it..."
Buck sees Tommy's fond expression and his words taper off. Shyly, he kisses Tommy again.
"I may have gone down a few too many rabbit holes," he admits.
"That's amazing. You're amazing." Tommy smiles, and starts the car.
-
Buck is introduced to the group. Melton works at Harbor also, and immediately regales Buck with a story of how Tommy pleaded with their captain to drop him off at the hospital and won the bargain with promising to detail the engines the next few shifts.
"You did that for me?" Buck asks. "You didn't have to- Babe, you'd just fought a beast of a fire, I would've understood if you couldn't make it."
Tommy ducks his head, as if embarrassed. "Well, I promised. And the welcome was worth it."
They share a look, remembering the kiss in the lobby.
"You two are so sappy," Melton declares. "Can't believe we used to think you were cool."
"He is cool! He flew a helicopter into a hurricane. And landed on an upside-down cruise ship."
"Yeah, yeah. I still can't believe you're keeping your job after that jaunt."
Fernando, a wiry man with a bald head and a thick, curly beard, is the geography and botany expert. Jill Tan is their science person, her petite form nearly dwarfed by the three firefighters but her laugh is loud and free. Buck likes her. Melton is their sports and world history guy, and Tommy apparently has military and machinery trivia locked down. Buck guesses he's here to round out the team with his list of animal facts and maybe some other random bits that he's picked up on his Wikipedia tours.
"Who's on pop culture?" he asks when Tommy goes to get their drinks.
"That'll be- hey, there she is," says Fernando, waving his hand at someone over Buck's shoulder.
"Sorry I'm late, I meant to be here before Tommy comes with his... Buck?"
"Lucy?"
Fernando sips on his margarita. "So you two know each other?"
"Uh, yes, Lucy used to work at the 118," Buck manages to reply without stuttering. "I didn't know... How are you?"
At least Lucy looks as stunned as Buck feels. "I'm good. I'm, uh, yeah. I'm good. Earning my place in Harbor."
"Hey Donato, you're here. You know Evan, right? Here you go, Evan. Don't give me that look, try it first and then tell me how much you hate it." Tommy slides back into his seat, boxing Buck in.
Buck takes a sip and wrinkles his nose thoughtfully. "I don't hate it."
Lucy takes the last empty chair. There's a smile on her face that signals something, but Buck doesn't know what she's planning.
"Didn't know you were the Evan Tommy's been going all swoony about," she says casually. "Now I know why he goes all glassy-eyed when he texts you."
"He goes glassy-eyed and swoony?" Buck is amused and almost... touched? by the idea of Tommy being unable to hide his affection.
Melton nods. "It's good I'm already married, because I'd wanna hit him otherwise for being so blissed out."
"You'd be blissed out too if you're regularly kissed by this guy," Lucy says with a crooked smirk. "I should know."
Jill cackles. "Oh no, you kissed Tommy's boyfriend?"
"I wasn't his boyfriend at the time!" Buck sputters, face turning red. "Also, I was kinda drunk. Never doing that again."
"You were someone's boyfriend at the time though," Lucy continues blithely. "But I'm cute and irresistible, so I get it. I definitely didn't know you're into guys too." She cocks her head and looks straight at Tommy, curious.
"He wasn't consciously aware of that attraction until he met me." Tommy drapes an arm over Buck's shoulders, the weight a welcome focal point for him. "I'm damn lucky I'm the one he decided on. And from now on, all his kisses are for me alone." He meets Lucy's eyes.
Papers and pencils are being passed around. Buck feels the tension ease, in the way that highlights that there was a bit of tension earlier.
"Ugh, gross," Lucy declares, grinning, and hops off to get her own drink.
Jill raises her glass to Buck in a toast. "To bisexuality and knowing yourself!"
"Yeah!" Buck toasts back.
Tommy kisses his cheek. "Let's kick some trivia ass."

TDA-Korekiyo Shinguji
Support me over at Patreon: www.patreon.com/skulljackxiii —————————————————
Total Dangan Action Contestant No. 7: Korekiyo Shinguji
Bio: The most unnerving participant in the group. He specializes in diverse culture and ethical customs around the world, integrating himself in the study and research on the early development of human societies; making him extremely integral for trivia based challenges related to world history and geography. He is so passionate in his work that while studying about the early nature of people, he began loving all kinds of people in return. Though ironically this kind of acceptance makes him feel disturbing and uncomfortable for the other participants.
Normally he is very quiet and tends to keep calm in tense situation, but this makes everyone else uncomfortable as he simply observes others in a obvious manner while saying morbid things in a light-hearted tone. This is because when he is willing to accept and love everyone, that also includes the more horrific and disturbed side of humanity.
Despite that, his team still values him for not only his knowledge but also for his outlook and foresight during physical challenges. Out of everyone, Korekiyo seems to be the only one to actively try to pursue everyone to be his friend and not be bothered by their rejections or criticism towards him. He is seen more actively to be close towards the female participants, so that both he and his "sister" could have friends. The same "sister" that Korekiyo talks to everyday for moral support on the show, though no one has ever seen him with a phone or some kind of device to communicate with.
Goal: He went on the show for two goals alone; one is to find worthy friends for him and his "sister" since this show only takes a small handful of people from the world to be on the show. The second goal is to use the prize money to find undiscovered lands so that he may see small villages that hasn't made contact with the outside world yet, all so that he could further develop and grow his knowledge for culture and customs.

I think Stampy's video on the Minecraft trailer is very interesting!!! :0 the lighting trivia/commentary is REALLY cool, and the fact he'd been EMAILING THE PRODUCERS since 2014 (and he's not in the movie he just heard they were making it and was like. Hey I have ideas!) about how it should be animated is so based. The concern about the quality of the visual gags and about how much it will revel in "isn't that WEIRD??" Is....I mean, yeah, I do hope they don't go all in on that, I don't think it would be very pog. Based. "I was surprised at how young this trailer seems geared towards" SAME?? I was also expecting it to be very "all ages" in marketing.
He also isn't overly critical and like "this movie will have no good things and no one should see it, worst movie ever" like a lot of people seem to be, Stampy is just so calm and chill about everything. He like, has some comments and stuff but there's a very casual/relaxed vibe to it as opposed to the rage-bait people have been making about it. Which is poggers!!
It is also fair though that making a Minecraft movie is like, never going to satisfy everyone when it's a sandbox game and one with a huge audience.
And I mean I still am going to see the movie and want to enjoy it. I hope I will... I mean idk I have no way of knowing and the visual choices are odd but apparently somenof the people involved did the lego movies andneven outside of that I just...want to be excited. I WANT to like this movie and have fun because I feel like it's been awhile since I was actually excited for a movie to drop. I wanna be optimistic and try not to get to worried. I might hate it but no use hating it before I've even seen it right? I also think that the world terrain looks pretty sometimes, like in the wide shots. Not the mobs, but you know. The geography and some of the buildings

girl.. wife!sevika and reader who competitively watch jeopardy together every night. like literally shoving each other (playfully) out of the way to see the tv better and shouting answers over each other... this is a goddamn dream.
CUTEEEE
men and minors dni
lobbing pillows at each other, gently nudging and wrestling on the couch as you half argue half laugh as the timer on the tv counts down.
when sevika's right, she always gets up and does a victory lap around the living room, cheering for herself and flipping you off.
when you're right, you kick her and tease her and watch her grumpily sink into the couch, swearing that the game is rigged.
when neither of you are right, you'll throw chips or popcorn at the tv and boo, directing all your competitive rage at alex trebeck's (rip) smiling face.
she downloads a trivia app onto her phone to get better at your nightly watches. you make fun of her when you catch her studying, laughing each time she gets something wrong, but proudly kissing her when she gets something right.
sometimes, you guys will make bets or decisions based on who wins jeopardy that night.
"if i get this one right, you have to do the dishes." you'll say.
or, "whoever wins this one has to give the other person head."
when the hour is up and the show ends, no matter how heated and competitive your nightly routine has gotten, you both cuddle up against each other and flip through the channels until you find something else that interests you.
sevika's great with geography and history based questions. you're convinced she's got the world map memorized in her head.
you're better at pop culture questions, and sevika always whines when the categories have celebrity, movie, or music based questions.
you guys don't really keep track of points or whose winning, it's more about the playful banter and impressing one another with your obscure knowledge.
sometimes, (most of the time,) when one of you pulls a random fact out of your ass to answer a question and get it right, the other will be so impressed that the rest of jeopardy will be spent making out and groping each other on the couch, occasionally pausing to whisper out answers against each other's lips when you overhear a question one of you knows.
taglist!

WANNA KNOW SOMETHING THAT REALLY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN GLOSSED OVER IN PJO????? THEM HOLDING THE FUCKING SKY. THAT SHOULD HAVE MADE A LASTING IMPRESSION. LIKE, ANNABETH, EVEN WITH ARTEMIS' BLESSING CARRIED THE WEIGHT OF TGE WORLD ON HER SHOULDERS FOR 22 HOURS. WHAT THE FUCK. PERCY HELD THE WEIGHT FOR A WAY SMALLER AMOUNT OF TIME, BUT ON HIS OWN MOTHERFUCKING STRENGTH. AND??? ANNABETH AND PERCY HAVE SHARED TRAUMA WITH ARTEMIS, NOW???? GREEK GODDESS WOULD-KILL-A-MAN-FOR-BEING-A-PRICK-JUST-AS-SOON-AS-SHED-SMITE-A-FUCKING-GIANT-COUGH-ORION-COUGH ARTEMIS???? AND THAT WASNT REALLY UTILIZED???
ANYWAY, HERES A LIST OF THINGS THAT ARE MY PERSONAL HEADCANONS FOR THE AFTERMATH OF HOLDING THE MOTHERFUVKING SKY:
-BASED ON DIFFERENT TELLINGS OF THE MYTH, ATLAS WAS EITHER HOLDING THE SKY OR THE EARTH, SO GUESS WHAT. THE REASON WHY ITS SO DRAINING ISNT ONLY JUST BECAUSE YOURE HOLDING THE S K Y, BUT ALSO BECAUSE YOURE BODY AND CONSCIOUSNESS IS BEING DIVIDED OVER AND OVER SO AS TO BE ABLE TO HOLD THE ENTIRE SKY, BECAUSE LAST TIME I CHECKED, THE FUCKING SKY WASNT ANCHORED TO ONE POINT. I SAY THAT THAT STUPID MOUNTAIN WAS JUST THE EASIEST PLACE TO ACCESS THAT POINT OF DIVISION
-ALONG WITH THE PREVIOUS ONE, BECAUSE CONSCIOUSNESS WAS DIVIDED, TGE HOLDERS HAVE I N S A N E FUCKING GEOGRAPHY SKILLS. LIKE, PERCY HAD THEM BEFORE, BUT NOW HE AND ANNABETH CAN CASUALLY GO, LIKE, OH, LUXEMBOURG, YEAH THATS OVER BY WHATEVERTHEFUCK. THEYRE VERY POPULAR AT TRIVIA, NOW
-CHRONIC MOTHERFUVKING PAIN. THIS HAS BEEN MENTIONED BEFORE, BUT I'D IMAGINE THAT TGE SKY IS REALLY F U C K I N G HEAVY. THATS GOTTA BE HELL ON YOUR WRISTS AND BACK. ADD IN TARTURUS SHIT AND YOU HAVE CHRONIC PAIN FOR L I F E.
-THE GRAY STREAKS SHOULD HAVE STAYED. I DONT GUVE A SHIT IF THEYRE STRESS INDUCED OR WHATEVER. ITS A MAGICAL PHENOMENON, IT CAN HAVE ITS OWN RULES. LIKE THE MARK OF FUCKING ACHILLES, BUT THATS ANOTHER STORY.
-AS MENTIONED BEFORE, THEY PACK BONDED WITH ARTEMIS A BIT??? BUT IT DIDNT COME UP AGAIN??? LIKE, SURE, SHE DIDNT WANT HIM TO DIE, BUT THE THREE OF THEM WERE LIKE??? ALL IN THAT TOGETHER??? AND LOST ZOE?? I DYNNO. MAYBE THATS TOO FAR, BUT STILL
THATS REALLY ALL I CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW, BUT IM SURE THERES MORE. BUT WHAT GHE FUCK WAS THAT.

I think using someone's knowledge of geography as a litmus test for whether they care about other places in the world and the people in them is misguided at best and stupid at worst. No, I can't tell you the half the names of any other places on earth and really I don't give a shit either. I couldn't name all 50 states and their capital cities, either. Can we stop equating education and trivia knowledge to a substitute for caring about global crises? I've always hated the "gotcha" of "point out [location] on a globe. Can't do it? Clearly you're a self centered lazy American pig dog and google is free." Have you considered I have no interest in memorizing maps? That shit is just not relevant to my life. I want that the people of the world do not suffer and for that I don't need to be able to win at a geography based game show or name their top exports and staple dishes.

Haiti gained independence from France (National Day) on January 1, 1804.
Haitian Independence Day
Celebrating the triumphant moment when a nation broke free, inspiring hope, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity.
Many people don’t realize the importance of this day for several countries all over the world who celebrate their independence on the first day of each year. One important country to recognize this day as their birthday is the island nation of Haiti. Get ready to join in on celebrating Haitian Independence Day!
History of Haitian Independence Day
Haiti became a free republic on the first day of January in 1804, after a revolution that had occurred over the previous fifteen years, fighting for freedom from France. This important event in the history of the country declared independence for the people of Haiti and ensured freedom from colonial rule.
The story of Haiti’s independence is particularly important because this was the first country to be founded by former slaves, and it was also the first nation in the western hemisphere to abolish slavery!
Taking place on New Year’s Day, Haitian Independence Day, is celebrated throughout the country with various traditions, one of which is a pumpkin soup called soupe joumou. Other celebrations include parties, music and festivities.
How to Celebrate Haitian Independence Day
Show some appreciation for this unique nation located in the Caribbean islands by getting involved with the celebration of Haitian Independence Day! Check out some of these ideas for getting started:
Learn Interesting Facts about Haiti
One excellent way to get involved with and celebrate Haitian Independence Day would be to learn a bit more about the country through some trivia or fun facts. This could also be a great way for teachers or parents to provide some background information and education when helping their children learn about geography, social studies and much more.
Get started by learning and sharing a few of these facts about Haitian Independence Day:
The Republic of Haiti shares an island with the Dominican Republic, and the name of the entire island that the two share is Hispaniola.
Haiti is made up of a series of breathtaking mountainous landscapes, so everyone in the country is either on a mountain or can see one.
Like many Caribbean island nations, the people of Haiti enjoy food that is very spicy, including goat pepper, vinegar, and various locally grown hot, hot, hot spices.
Haiti has two national languages, both French and Haitian Creole. But French is considered to be a “high” language by many, so the commoners usually use Haitian Creole, with more than 95% of people who are fluent in this language.
Visit Haiti
An incredible option for celebrating Haitian Independence Day might be to plan a trip to visit this interesting island country. And even though the day is celebrated in January, the country of Haiti boasts summer weather all year round, so be sure to pack that bathing suit for taking a swim in the ocean.
Other activities to enjoy might include hiking, cave exploration, beach adventures and more. Though tourists should certainly do their homework and travel only in safe places in Haiti, the island offers unique and interesting cultural experiences that cannot be found anywhere else.

how do you come up with your character backstories? they're all so detailed and well thought out and you always seem to have an abundance of fun and interesting trivia for all your characters as well. would you be willing to give tips to someone who has a hard time coming up with anything beyond like. the basics lol 😔👉👈
WAH THANK YOU FOR SENDING THIS 🥺 i always feel a little embarrassed talking abt my ocs because i tend to start and never stop lol, and theyre all very special to me so its a sort of vulnerable extension of myself in a way. even if im only sharing with them with the lovely ppl who live in my phone its always a little stressful, so i really appreciate that they left a good impression!!
as for tips, i just wanna say as a disclaimer that i am very chronically online. ive also had multiple periods of extended free time in which ive been able to really hyperfocus on certain media and the characters i want to create within them. ALSO, a lot of my ocs ive had in development for several years and theyve just evolved naturally. ashara, for example, i made when i was 19, and im 26 now lol. ik this is cliche to hear, but i rly do think its important to go at your own pace when developing characters and do whatever makes YOU happy, before looking to anybody elses ocs , because we all have different lifestyles and creative processes and whatnot ❤️
that being said, i can def share a few things that helped me! firstly, i always start developing characters based solely on vibes and sensory stimuli, so i'd highly recommend making a pinterest moodboard for them and/or a music playlist! pinterest esp, since its such a great way to start brainstorming and getting a visual idea of what you want your character to look like/embody/represent. its a great place for inspiration in general.
secondly, one of the most important steps in developing any character is motivation. what does your oc WANT? why? what would they do to get it? should they get it? would would happen if they got it vs if they didnt? do they ACTUALLY want it or just think they do? answer those questions and you've already got a pretty solid foundation to work with. another really useful piece of advice a friend gave me several years ago was this: "what is something your character believes in at the start of their journey, that they no longer believe by the end of it?" for example, my warden oc elspeth believes in traditional heroics and black-and-white morality. by the end of dao she does not. theres a LOT to explore between point A and point B.
lastly, when i make ocs its very important to me personally that they feel inextricably TIED to the media they belong to. this is completely optional ofc, bc lots of people enjoy characters they can drag and drop into different stories, which is fine! for me though, i like taking cues from the world around them. it makes them feel natural to the plot, the setting, the canon characters, etc, because it helps me pin down some of their more hyperspecific quirks. there are a few ways to go about this.
the easiest way imo is to look at any major Core Issues within whatever media you're working with. like real life, people have OPINIONS about ISSUES and POLITICS lol, and those opinions are usually influenced by their own lived experience or personal belief system. so if you can identify a few key figures, factions or events in your story, and give your character an Opinion or Reaction to those things, it can pretty naturally be evolved into a unique and interesting backstory. to use elspeth as an example again: "elspeth dislikes orlais". thats a political opinion about a faction. and then to expand on why? "because her family/country fought in the occupation and she loves her family/country". from there we learn she's nationalistic and places value of lineage. then you could say — "she enjoys history and geography because it allows her to better appreciate her country. she cares deeply about all ferelden peoples, and has studied techniques from avaar and chasind communities". and you can keep branching out and expanding from there. and once you've exhausted that thread, move on to a diff one! "elspeth is nervous around mages". why? "because her religion tells her to and shes never thought to question it." why? etc etc etc.
alternatively, i find it really helpful to find an overlining theme in the type of media im working with/creating. sometimes its easy (baldurs gate 3 has a confirmed theme of autonomy vs authority, da4 will have a confirmed theme of regret, etc) but if its not as clear cut or your designing your own original world, its fine and great to take your own creative interpretation of things and run with it. for example, origins for me is very reminiscent of loss of innocence and war. inquisition is, to me, about personhood and losing it to your own mythology. once you've got a theme it can really help help translate into a cohesive story you want to tell and a character you want as an outlet. and since the character will be thematiclly relevant, you might also find it easier for them to connect to the cast/setting/story etc.
sorry this is so long, but i hope you gained something out of all this word salad lmao. one more thing i want to mention — its also fine to NOT do any of this. sometimes i get overwhelmed feeling like i have to come up with a unique/multi-faceted character every time i go into characterization, and virtually 100% of the time its Never that deep. if you find yourself getting stressed or overwhelmed, remind yourself that its perfectly fine to dream up a simple and straightforward character who makes you happy, and let the rest come to you as your character goes forth into the story. sometimes simplicity is best because you arent held down by the restrictions you've placed on them yet.
sending love, i hope this helped !!!!!! if you have any more questions or just want to chat, feel free to send another ask or slide into my dms ! ❤️❤️❤️

About Me
I’m a freelance creative and house-spouse from Southern California. I’ve been a professional graphic designer since 2004, and since 2020 I’ve specialized in creating map illustrations and artistic cartography. When not designing, I bike for exercise, make music, and follow baseball.
In classic lore bard fashion, my jams are trivia and general knowledge—I'm especially into the ways history, geography, and language intersect—but I'm not a specialist in very much (even maps; I'm definitely not a "real" cartographer).
Fandom-wise, I go for mainstreamy/conventional fantasy and sci-fi (Stars Trek, Wars, and Battle; Dune, Tolkein, GRRM) but also some more recent (Jemisin, Eames, Roanhorse) and/or fairly niche (the Marys Stewart and Renault) works in both as well as other genres. All my faves are problematic and I’m fine with that.
BG3 is the first video game I’ve been sucked into since Final Fantasy 1, circa 1992 (after the first two Zeldas and Ultima 4). I played D&D 2e briefly back then and play 5e regularly now.
In case it matters, I am much closer to 51 than 21, my pronouns are he/him, and I am happily monogamous/married. I don't post salacious stuff but I should probably call this place "18+". I block for my own sanity, because like I said, I’m here for the escapism.
I don't want to be overtly opinionated or take-y, but I’m too old, straight, white, and male to be anything but a demographic outlier On Here, so please be patient with any associated obliviousness and I'll try not to be too embarrassing to follow.

Hey all! I don't really have anything of note to share but I just wanted to show off this little side hobby of mine- making quizzes on this neat site called Sporcle! I've made ~14 quizzes on a variety of topics ranging from Gaming to Geography, and would love any kind of feedback on any of them and even if you don't have anything to really add it always makes me happy to see some extra plays. I don't make any money off of this so the only thing I get out of this is knowing some people like trivia just as much as I do.

Anonymously asking the people I follow to infodump about something that makes them happy part 8?
(I like giving people the chance to talk about their favorite things and it does me a learn)
So this has been resting in my inbox for a while bc i struggled to find something that i enjoy doing and also know something about?
it's gonna sound weird but i really like memorising things? it's weird bc i started off being very bad at geography and was embarrassed about it. So in an act of defiance i started to memorise the flags of the world and when i finally got them all i thought well know i gotta know where these countries are. So i started memorising the world map and then the capital cities and then the currencies and the outlines. And also the american states and capitals. And the 14 highest mountains and 7 summits and now I'm memorising the internet-tlds. It sounds weird i know but i like doing this 😭 i also love browsing wikipedia pages for random information and can get lost in this research. This all let to me end up in a bar trivia team and i absolutely love going there. There are much smarter people there who know a lot more than me but my team relies on me knowing flags and capitals and it feels great fjdjs but yeah I'm super interested in flags over the history of the countries and what certain colors and motives mean and yeah
