Okay but now I’m dying to know what you learned about eunuch sex and stereotypes.

Stereotypes I found fairly little about, probably because the kind of info I want is in Chinese, not English. I eventually found a few comments on how overly powerful eunuchs were treated by official historians after their deaths. But it was very general stuff about greed, not people throwing shade over sex-related stuff. I flat out do not believe nobody did that. I just couldn't find any explicit mention of it.

For actual sex, what I most wanted was the answer to what it's like to be a eunuch, which is obviously the hardest question to answer. I found mountains of academic asses in the modern day saying things like "The prostate must be underdeveloped because of hormones, so they wouldn't be able to get off".

I eventually found a few tantalizing comments on yahoo answers or somewhere where a Chinese speaker was talking about commonplace stereotypes and scandals involving eunuchs beating the snot out of female prostitutes because sexual frustration leads to sadism or something. It sounded like they were referencing specific things, but nothing in English.

The actually useful info I found came from three places:

The first was some medical researchers examining the last living eunuchs some time in the mid-20thC. They mostly confirmed that the exact physical effects varied, including things like many of them being tall or having an underdeveloped prostate, but not all. That didn't tell me anything about what it was like to be those guys, but it did confirm that the "X must be true because hormones!" crowd hadn't even bothered to try to find out if the most verifiable of their assumptions held water.

The second was Décadence Mandchoue. This is a sexually explicit "memoir" by an elderly white guy about his younger years fucking half of China. It's basically a long Penthouse Forum letter and peak r/thathappened. The thing is, I wanted this for writing trashy fic about people's porn stereotypes about eunuchs. I don't care if Sir Edmund Trelawny Backhouse was lying. I care that he was lying in a much more culturally informed way than the other Europeans who fantasized about getting their dicks wet in China. This dude had definitely been there and was definitely horny for men, including eunuchs, and he was there in an era when there were still plenty of eunuchs around.

I didn't read the whole thing, but with some judicious text searching of the ebook, I found relevant passages. It wasn't easy though. He uses all kinds of wacky euphemisms and likes to drop into French and Latin, all of this peppered with Chinese and direct translations of Chinese expressions. But he does describe eunuchs' sexual appetites and some very specific encounters and how some dude did or didn't like to be touched. A lot of his claims about encounters with the rich and famous are likely to be lies, and "All the hookers fell in love with me" type comments are worth exactly as much as usual from rich guys fucking the socially disadvantaged, but the very specific sex details strike me as plausible—or at least the best we're going to get. I suspect his general ideas about how other dudes viewed eunuchs as sex partners are accurate too.

The third, and best, source was The Last Eunuch of China: The Life of Sun Yaoting. This thing is the holy grail: a description of what it's like from a eunuch. Sure, he's not from the historical period I was writing about, and he's just one guy, but it's the kind of first person account I wanted and that you're not generally going to find historically for any type of person, let alone a eunuch. There's no ebook, and I didn't have time to read the whole thing. I skimmed and found a bunch of relevant passages. Sadly for me, the book's subject was aggressively heterosexual and has all these tantalizing mentions of bathhouses he disliked because they were gay eunuch hookup spots. The bits I found useful were his comments about his own response to pornography and the anecdotes about eunuchs, prostitutes, and sadism, which overlapped with the yahoo answers type stuff to a degree. He gives one the sense that plenty of eunuchs were plenty horny and very frustrated, but it's less like "Poor them, literally no one ever experienced pleasure" than the yahoo answers. Sadly for me, this is not tell-all confessional sleaze like Backhouse's, so he doesn't go into tons of explicit detail about his own sexual experiences (well, that I found by skimming anyway), but it's an amazing resource.

I also found some pics of dildos from a eunuch museum and other entertaining things like that, and various sources told me about Chinese brothels, which are relevant because the fictional character I was writing about bankrolls one.

I also looked at various tales purporting to be history that were about dudes being made eunuchs in revenge or whatever. They were more focused on the revenge part and didn't make it into a weird kink thing, but they were interesting.
