#Yeah this is kind of a rant

Just finished the main quest for Starfield and I have many feelings. And those feelings are manifesting themselves into fic ideas.

I guess there isn't really a point to this post other than to get my feelings down in writing and see how it compares to everyone else's.

I've put them all below the cut for those who don't want spoilers.

Ok yeah.. so where do I even start?

The fact that you get split up from your followers and in the new universe everyone is kinda ??? about you. I get it, I do, but like... that hurts so much. I feel so empty. I spent hours and hours talking to them, doing their quests, getting to know them, and bonding--and poof, I'm alone in a universe where none of them are the same and I can't grow close to any of them again.

And at the end, in our original universe, Sam is encouraging us to go into the Unity even though he knows we probably won't end up together in the next universe... BETHESDA that's not ROMANTIC that's TRAGIC. It was like a gut punch hearing Sam say we would miss each other till the end of days but had to do this anyway--and then to say he's bringing CORA, too? HUH?? You're going to not only take her away from her mother and grandfather, but also throw a 12 y/o into a new universe ALONE???

Some things are going to change in my fics, I tell you what. All of it doesn't sit well with me.

And the absolute hollowness of the new universe!! A little bit into it and I'm sitting there going I WANT TO GO BACK, PLEASE LET ME GO BACK. It just feels like the whole thing is entirely NOT WORTH IT.

I've lost Sam, I've lost Cora, and all my other companions. The emotional disconnect from the new universe companions leaves a GIANT hole in my heart. I am hurting. What is the point??

All this has done is inspire me with the most heart-wrenching angst fics I've ever thought of, and to start the whole game over again. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED this game up until this point. And I like how they're trying to do this death/rebirth motif and the impact you the player has on your world. EXCEPT, if you want me to keep playing, the companions are a large part of what made the game good for me and everything after has felt oddly lazy--like they gave up trying to make the game unique and meaningful after. The 10 different NG+ differences are fine. But still empty, and you're left with busy work in the form of artifact collection. I really regret going to a new universe, but the whole game, and your followers, are all pushing you to do it--so the game is pushing you to do this, but for what? I was so excited for the possibilities for what comes next...but it fell so flat for me. At least I can channel this pain into writing fics.

...Ok, well... rant over. If you've gotten this far, thanks for reading this jumbled, emotional mess. This isn't meant to be a review either, just my perspective. So if you enjoyed this NG+ aspect, I'm genuinely happy for you. Let me know what your thoughts were on the end of the game, or if I've missed something crucial and I should keep going with my original character.

LOA Shiptober Day 4: How They Met

October content month was ambitious..

This one took me. Shockingly long. Whoops! I’ll probably end up jumping around the prompt list and it might extend into November 😋

Fluttershy was his FIRST ever friend, and when his only friend started hanging out with someone else, it made him feel insecure and threatened. He lashes out because he thinks he's getting replaced. He doesn't have prior experience having friends or managing relationships at all. He gets insecure and needs to be reassured that his friends do care about him, with little regard for how he gets that reassurance, since he's a creature of chaos.

Three's a Crowd is just another example of that. He gets insecure that Twilight doesn't see him as a friend, so he feigns sick and makes her literally go to the ends of Equestria to help him, which reassures him that she cares about him. Like yeah, he acts very selfishly to get that reassurance, but it's hard to act perfect when you're the embodiment of disharmony and trying to unlearn your nature.

Discord haters also conveniently ignore the Discordant Harmony episode, where he basically comes close to just straight-up killing himself trying to become what he thinks is Fluttershy’s ideal version of him.

Like yes, he does sucky things, and he'd probably rather go back to stone than admit this—but Discord cares sooooo much about his relationships and wants to keep his friends soooo so badly. He just can’t help but self-sabotage.

I get the appeal of Sonic the Hedgehog being its own urban legend in his world (IDW can we now call it earth) like, a blue blur that appears out of nowhere, destroys some robots, maybe picks up some wildflowers while he saves entire civilizations like it's just a walk in the park and just a few people get as much of a glimpse of him from up close (and that means you're also getting a close glimpse to this week's god of destruction so maybe be careful with that)? it is really cool, but the side of Sonic that is well renewed, the one that it's known by the world as a protector, a hero to some level, the side thay annoys restoration members, the side that gets recognized by the masses, praised by children, feared by villains and admired by almost everyone to a certain level... one that is big enough for him to get bootleg merch? It's just really funny to me like

we know that fighting is sukuna's canonical "love language"....

so what is this???

the level of physicality and closeness in all their fights is making me rabid. sukuna really gives yuuji such special treatment .... not only does he spare yuuji's life so many times when he could have killed him, he also keeps fighting yuuji in close combat when he literally has a cursed technique that can slice people apart from a distance.

this is a choice he's making to get so skin-to-skin with the enemy he's supposed to hate.

also, the way he was (unnecessarily) cradling yuuji's neck almost gently as he literally beats into him, how he's grabbing onto yuuji and just manhandling him — i'm no going to lie, it's almost carnal. how is so much intimacy in all of their fights compared to everyone else sukuna clashes with?

and the way sukuna is so expressive and uncharacteristically emotional whenever he gets to face yuuji. that brat just works him up so bad—

it's especially interesting when sukuna looks almost proud or excited to see what yuuji can do.

also.... sukuna, why do you look so excited for yuuji to come beat you up? is this like a date to you???

i mean, to be fair, sukuna probably considers violent brawling a love confession so no wonder why he's always ready to take on yuuji.

even in the official art he's so obviously into it.

the way he's smirking down at yuuji, holding onto his wrist, it's like he can't stop touching him. probably misses the closeness they used to have back when the brat was his vessel tbh.

i especially love that one scene where he literally sat on yuuji

in conclusion, sukuna gets off on throwing his boy around and feeling him up. it's just fact.

and yuuji is more than likely into it, too....

this means they share the same kinks traits to me tbh. if sukuna really did survive, i would like to believe that they would go on fighting hard with each other, even over the stupidest things. domestic cursed husbands to me <3

I recently started reading (and ended up dropping partway through) an m/m retelling of an old legend, and it made me think of this reoccurring thing I've come across a handful of times now in m/m fiction and how they approach women, equality, and world-building.

Let's call it the omegaverse problem, because that's where it seems the most blatant (I've only come across it twice outside of fandom spaces that I can remember). Basically, it's when the writer looks at the unequal and sometimes oppressive roles women serve in society (today and historically), and goes 'this is a good basis for dark romance but there are too many women here' and then just. plops men into the roles traditionally served by women and recreates heteronormative tropes but They're All Men Now, none of those icky women.

Now, completely removing any and all gender based inequality isn't a bad basis for a queer-inclusive fantasy! But thing is, this type of narrative isn't interested in women, so they often read as if women have mysteriously disappeared from society (except for the occassional mom or sister). They don’t bother to include women in traditionally male areas (the book I dropped had plenty of male courtesans, with diplomats and bodyguards and advisors also being male) nor to create new roles for them.

They also generally don’t bother to look critically at the systemic and societal inequalities they're mimicking. The concept 'typically sexist society but they're all men (or all women)' could be used to alienate and deconstruct our ideas of what’s 'normal' and what’s oppressive, a way to compare the intersections of class and gender. Instead, this kind of story is only interested in using inequality as inter-character conflict and set-up for romance. And it sucks.

this is from a silly perspective with no ill-will, but i am genuinely surprised that people in some parts of the sonic fandom REALLY think that charmy has brainrot or is an ipad baby

do. do you think. that charmy has accessibility to any other tech device in his home that is not the shitty always-buffering tv in the chaotix’s cramped living room, and or the old telephone on vector’s office desk that’s only used for calling clients. that little guy has not seen anything on a screen that wasn’t cable tv dated kids shows; you KNOW vector isn’t paying for anything else that isn’t food, the phone bill, the water bill or the electricity bill—and that includes internet in the home. he ain’t paying for no phone or ipad, nuh uh, not while they can’t even afford basic necessities

the little bee definitely also prefers physical play over just watching something and sitting kinda still. there is SO much pep and energy in that small body, he needs to move and get it all out and fly around and move his arms while drawing—he probably wouldn’t like just watching something for long periods of time. he wanna moooooove.

istg if you said “skibidi” infront of charmy, he would probably get scared and think you were possessed before he’d call for espio or vector to beat the ghost out of you.

so. yeah. charmy is most definitely not an ipad brainrotted kid, not when the chaotix are quite literally struggling to afford food and /w also type of child the little bee is 👍
