Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Ox - 2021, 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961, 1949
Written on the back:
To its expectant herd, a gray ox spoke from cliffs threshold "An endless field to graze forever, just as I foretold." -"We think you need glasses," the herd replied. "How come?" Asked the gray ox. -"That's the ocean!" they cried. -Mythee
Lattice - Wood
The rectangular shapes of the lattice around the edges represent the wood element in Feng Shui.
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Summer
The lotus flower blooms in the summer, and given that every part of it has medicinal use, became symbolic of health. Capable of producing its loveliest blooms even from the murkiest waters, it symbolizes harmony, purity and spiritual renewal.
Folk Toy Tapestry microfibers are up for sale on my Ko-fi!

#34 - 'Year of the Ox' (early version) (non-album track, 2000)
Tumblr media
A baby ox is called a calf. The little calf enters into the world very nearly as proud, sturdy and muscular as its elder. To the untrained eye, in fact, there might be no apparent difference at all; see how it heaves forward with the might of ten men, or more! The infant beast has many of the same features as its superior: the complexion of its hide and its face, the muscular kick of its legs, those big, spiky horns that have been known to gore many a careless shepherd. And neither is it the favourite critter of many. In those respects, it may as well be identical.
But do not be fooled, young zoo-keeper! ‘May as well’ is a dangerous term. The calf does, in fact, differ from its elder in tiny ways. They are as follows:
The elder and the younger are in different keys. The elder is in C# Major; the younger, with its fresh-faced energy, is in the slightly higher D Major.
The elder has a slightly clearer mix. Certain elements, especially the drums, are punchier and more foregrounded.
The elder is very slightly faster than the younger. One would, of course, expect this from an ox who has become fit and vigorous in the fields.
The elder features a brief, blown out drum break at 0:51 not present anywhere in the younger.
A glitchy industrial section begins at 1:30 in the elder, which is absent in the younger and is replaced with the early introduction of a distorted keyboard line that first appears at 2:27 in the elder.
Another bitcrushed drum break is present in the elder at 2:04, quickly followed by another small, glitchy section. Neither of these are present in the younger, which instead returns to the electric guitar line that was first introduced earlier in the song.
At the very end, the younger briefly returns to its main theme and then peters out into a mangled vibraphone outro. The elder also returns to the main theme, but swiftly cuts into a synthesiser fugue and then one final churning drum break to close itself out.
Easy as a bundle of hay, right?
Another thing you should know about the calf is that it is a real pain in the ass (the human variety, mind) to find. It is one of the most obscure little animals in the whole wide wilderness, only released in 2000 on 8.21 A Blue Bunny Compilation, which also featured the decidedly non-animal ‘Woman at the Well’ and ‘Far Physician’s Son’. You will have to track down a copy of the CD or download this poor animal from the internet to hear its multitudinous grunts and groans. Many will question whether it is worth it at all – you could see bigger, grander, more impressive creatures just about anywhere at your local zoo.
But do consider it. The elder ox gets all the love anyway. Give the poor calf a chance and listen to it calf bellow; I daresay you could hardly tell the difference, even if you tried.

The shoe emerges with a textile construction in a classic mix of black and red, highlighted by a jacquard print throughout. Various graphics directly call out the Year of the Ox, while the heel adds an elevated touch via a gold 'Wings' logo.
