A reflection on the Society in 2023, and what’s ahead for 2024
Hello all, another year has passed here at SoTS HQ, so time to take stock of things. 2023 marked ten years of Society of Three Speeds, but you wouldn’t have known it if you weren’t paying attention. Yeah, I said something earlier in the year about doing “something special” for the milestone, but nothing happened. There were also no rides, and the Three Speed October Challenge saw light…

2022 Year in Review
2022 Year in Review
Here. We. Go. Again  I am continuing my year in review series from 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, & 2021. I have kept track of every fish caught by day and location. I have compiled and crunched the numbers are here are the results for 2022!
80 total fish caught 33 different species 11 new species 22 saltwater species 11 freshwater species Month with most fish - May (29) Month with least fish - January, April, June, July, August, & December (0) Fished 14 different locations Caught fish on 12 different days Total days fishing - somewhere around 16 Fished off personal boat - 1 Fished off pier – 0 Fished off party boats – 1 Fished off private charter – 0 Countries fished - 2 (United States, Norway) States fished - 2 (Florida, Alabama)
2022. What can I say. I have certainly been busy, just not so much with fishing. This year we went caving, exploring across Florida, visited Sweden & Norway, attended my first Explorers Club Annual Dinner, pulled off our 5th continuous year of our brother weekend (EDIT: This isn't true, I don't know why I said this. We did not meet in 2020) and I spent some time in Texas at the SpaceX Starship facility. Shockingly, I still managed more new species than last year and 33% of every species I caught this year was a new species. A huge part of this was thanks to Dom, but probably also honestly focused on the fact that I would not fish much unless I had a chance at a new species. I am really close to my goal of 334 species caught on hook and line (or 1% of all fish species known) and I will be working harder this year to finish it out.
Tumblr media
Number of new species per year continues to tick up from a low in 2020.
Highlights of the year, not necessarily in any order.
1. As always, I enjoy meeting and fishing with people throughout the year. This year I fished with Steve again on his epic quest to catch a Gulf Flounder, fished with Dom, Ben, and Ally during our Memorial Day outing, and fished with family .
Tumblr media
Still hunting that Gulf Flounder.
2. Already mentioned above, but my outing on Dom's boat during Memorial Day weekend off Pompano Beach. I got 8 new species very easily and it was a great day fishing. Owe a lot to Dom for this one.

3. Continuing my Cichlasoma research in Florida. I am still trying to find the full range of the chanchita.
Tumblr media
Specimens from the Green Swamp delivered to the Florida Museum of Natural History.
4. And, of course, Brother Weekend 2022. Another success and another fish fry. The plans have already begun for next year.
Tumblr media
Hmmmmmm, bass.
What will 2023 bring? Well, hopefully more than 80 fish. I am starting the planning now!

2022 Year in Review!
Heyo everyone! Here's the FIRST EVER yearly review of my art! I hope to do this every year going forward, so let me know what you think of my picks. For this list I chose the pieces that I was most proud of/liked the most from each month. Sadly there were some really good ones that I'm STILL proud of that didn't get their own month, mostly because there was something else that I liked slightly more that came out that month. (RIP Boosession, milfstolfo, and more as honorable mentions) Links to each piece: 1. January: Goth In The Brain! 2. February: 2B Or Not 2B! 3. March: Exorcising Exorcist 3! 4. April: Brand New Ranni! 5. May: Sora's Daily Fillup! 6. June: Fluffy Feelings! 7. July: Dream Of Califayneication! 8. August: 'Lemy Enn' The Skinsuit Boi! 9. September: Prideful! 10. October: A 7 Night Sonata! 11. November: The Spice of Life! 12. December: Padoru Padoru'd! Now that we've closed out on my third full year as FanterFane, it's time to reflect. I wanna do this every year going forward, so I'm gonna start this tradition out strong the only way I know how. Several heartfelt ranting paragraphs about how you all mean the world to me. It's only been just over 3 years now since I started, but this past year was the first year where it really started to feel... substantial? I can't really remember what it was like before anymore, when I didn't create or post. Not that I want to go back to that, but it's just interesting to me that I'm now in this position, as a "big" TF artist, in the driver's seat. It's... surreal. I can't really put it into words. I got up to 15k followers on Twitter, and then proceeded to quit Twitter (thanks Elon), but my Deviantart remains my biggest account by far! I reached almost 23k watchers, and over 1 million page views! Wow!~ I know it's cliche to say this, but I never imagined to deal with any numbers that big in my entire LIFE. I consider myself beyond grateful to be able to create art for this many people to enjoy, even if the stress does admittedly get to me sometimes... Speaking of stress, in 2020, 2021, and a significant portion of 2022, imposter syndrome ran rampant in my head. I didn't feel like I was "good enough" for all of this, but thankfully it's not as big of an issue anymore. That's because I feel like now I can consistently create art that I'm at least somewhat personally satisfied with, even if it's still mostly in 3/4ths sometimes (still working on that). I don't think I'm where I want to be, and maybe I never will be, but I've still gotten much MUCH farther than I ever expected! All thanks to my wonderful patrons and commissioners supporting me, allowing me to make drawing my full time endeavor! 2022 artwise was mainly focused on developing my lineart and anatomy. With some perspective and interesting techniques and filters sprinkled in. In 2023, I want to continue developing my anatomy and perspective abilities, and use that in my next big comic project coming in (hopefully) April. I wanna also work more on my expressions and body types, breaking out of 3/4ths, experimenting more with animation, doing more DYNAMIC poses, and much MUCH more! I've met so many amazing people along the way, some of whom will hopefully be friends for life! Through great effort, and help from those same friends, I'm closer to myself than I've ever been in my life. I'm beyond thankful for that. I've been able to lose weight, start crossdressing it up (finally), and empathize with others better than I ever have before. It's quite amazing to be honest! To put it simply, gender euphoria is one hell of a drug! Finally, to wrap it up, an announcement. This year I will be taking on my biggest comic project to date! Featuring everyone's favorite freckled femboy, Fayne Fontaine! The working title for chapter 1 is "Wonderland", and my Patrons will be seeing sneak peeks as I get closer to entering full production by hopefully the end of February! You'll all get to see Fayne's backstory, (which I've been secretly writing for over a year now) and I'm very excited to share it all with you. Here's to 2023, and here's to more great art and experiences!

2022 Book List
Tumblr media
The time has come! My favourite time of the year to reflect on a year of reading! Please enjoy the photo above as the cozy refuge that is Daunts Books in London shot on film.
A few thoughts on this year of reading. In summation, I fell quite short in my expectations of the quantity of what I wanted to read this year. Whether that be a challenging start to the year, or a very busy work season, I consumed less this year than I hope to. With all of that being said, I am quite a fan of most of the things I read this year. Please enjoy my highlights!
1: My Body by Emily Ratajkowski: An incredibly personal set of essays that explored her relationship with her body that was honest, flawed, and fascinating.
2: Where the Deer and the Antelope Play: The Pastoral Observations of One Ignorant American Who Loves to Walk Outside by Nick Offerman: While long and full of words I had to look up, I thoroughly enjoyed the thoughts Nick Offerman shared about society and our relationship to the land we live on.
3: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan: A really engaging fantasy read by one of my favourite audiobook narrators. Loved the character development and the unique magical elements.
4: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty: This one of the first books I read from Reese's bookclub and I have to say, she has never disappointed me yet! A great complicated mystery with a fascinating set of female friendships.
5: Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jensen Reid: I read three books but this talented author this year! She has a knack for writing glamourous books about beautiful and haunted young women that I just find so easy to get lost in.
6: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: Another TJR read that was worth the hype. I loved the unexpected story line in this.
7: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig: I very much enjoyed this unique concept for a book. This book successfully subverts expectations and you can't help but viewing life a little differently after experiencing this novel.
8: Dreams of Joy by Lisa See: An absolutely heartbreaking novel full of nuance and interesting history. I adored the layered relationships sprinkled throughout.
9: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah: By far one of the best books I read this year. I'm not normally one for WW2 stories, but this story was gripping in every way. Strong women will always be my favourite to read about.
10: The Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: A reread that I will never tire of. There's something so fascinating about the dynamic between Watson and Holmes that I will never not want to contemplate.
11: Night Shift by Kiare Ladner: This was one of those books that was uncomfortable to read due to unlikable characters. The people in this story were unlikeable, complicated, and illogical which pushed me out of my normal story comfort zone.
12: The Last Garden in England by Julia Kelly: Just a delightful easy read about 3 generations of women navigating the world in unconventional ways.
13: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas: Having seen all the hype on Tik Tok over these novels, I took the plunge and have read the first three novels in this series. They have fast been devoured in my love for this world Sarah created. Perhaps why this series resonates well with me, is that it is fantasy actually written for women by women. There's so much to love in the depiction of romantic relationships actually being equal, women being just as fierce fighters as men, and the subversion of stereotypes. This was one of my reading highlights of the year!
Thanks for following along my reading journey.

Happy reading!
