I think for what the show put me through, I deserved to see them live their simple life in that house by the creek in Neunggun-ri. I wanted to see them in their house where they raise 3 hens so they can have eggs every morning and where they make wine in autumn so they can drink it in winter 😭 it was such a beautiful story but damn, I need to see more of their joy to balance out all the pain 😭😭

People have a right to a second chance, a rebirth of sorts. . .

People have a right to closure before the final goodbye. . .

This series is about those two things. Some get a second chance and other the final closure. It is heart felt and warm. The power of empathy is a magical thing. . .

I liked the series. It made me smile, it made me cry. Some things felt unrealistic but we forgive them as an audience captivated by the development of the characters that struggle to break from the darkness in their hearts and lives. . . Goodness outlives the darkness when people are surrounded by a caring support group, those that love you and you love back.

I really liked the story.

I’ve finished episode 20 of My Dearest. Episode 21 is waiting for me. I don't want to leave these wonderful characters, who made me feel so many emotions at once! I don't have the words for My Dearest, this drama is a masterpiece. I’m so happy to have watched the first episode, and to have been embroiled in this incredible story. I am captivated by Ahn Eun Jin and Min Namkoong, by their talented acting and by the beauty and sensitivity they exuded. I'd like to thank them and all the team behind this wonderful drama for these moments!

Lovers/My Dearest: Modern Day

Someone brilliant uploaded a video edit of Nam Goong-min and Ahn Eun-jin’s other dramas then put the selected scenes together. The result is a very compelling story that could very well be mistaken for a postscript to their current drama together.

This drama has touched so many viewers, both locally and internationally. I think it was a brilliant idea to take the plot of the famous American Civil War saga “Gone With The Wind” and reimagine it in Joseon.

I never really liked Rhett Butler much but I do admit that the story of him and Scarlett is very interesting. But what made it timeless was how all throughout the story, he and Scarlett would come together then be separated, then come together again. In all those instances of coming back to each other - and knowing deep inside, at least for Rhett - that the love they have is deep and true, something still prevents them from truly becoming lovers.

That same plot is what drives the story of Lee Jang Hyun and Yoo Gil-chae. Yet somehow, for me at least, I prefer the Joseon version. Jang Hyun’s arrogance which hides an innate nobility and sincerity touches my heart more than Rhett’s. As for Gil-chae, I like her almost as much as Scarlett. Both of them perfectly embody the frivolous young girl who transforms into a formidable and strong woman.

Going back to the video edit, the drama isn’t over yet and based on recent news, will be extended another episode. Despite that, I’ve already seen several fan edits of the possibility of their romance being transposed to the modern era. It’s as if most of the viewers expect a tragic ending.

Well, it is based on GWTW. If it will hold true to that novel’s trajectory, then these viewers are most likely right. Get out your tissues and prepare to have your heart broken then.
