This feels like a hot take nowadays, but Jara (Jason Todd/Yara Flor) was the best possible relationship that could’ve come out of the Elseworld’s Teen Titans. Do I think the series as a whole would’ve been better without a romance plot? Yes, of course, but man do I love Jara.

First of all, both of them are dealing with the pressure of carrying on the legacy of two of the original Teen Titans. I see Cara fans saying “oh, but Batgirl is a legacy name, too,” but it’s really not the same. Cass had Barbara in her corner while Jason and Yara didn’t have Dick or Donna in theirs (at least at the start/not in the same way that Cass had Babs.)

Also, despite the fact that the romance plot from #27 to #36 was forced I admit, they had chemistry before that. Almost from the start, before they were really friends or got along that well, they had banter! There was tension! There was already foreshadowing for the relationship that would blossom between the two of them by #5. 

The specific moment of foreshadowing that comes to mind in issue 5 is Roy’s thought boxes on page 26, where Roy compared the two to him and Donna. Most people say this makes no sense, that it would be better to make a comparison between Dick and Donna, I say this was purposeful to hint at how their relationship would develop.

And at the end, Yara was the one who was there for Jason after he killed Condiment King, helping him as he tried to figure out what it meant to have blood on his hands. All the others, especially Roy, turned their back on him without even asking why he did it (which I suppose we should blame the writers for more than the characters, and how rushed the entire ending is).

In conclusion, whether you like the ship or not, the writers were pushing it from the start. If you’re an Elseword’s Teen Titans fan, you can’t ignore it. Stop getting pissy when people enjoy the CANON ship, and stop trying to make a perfectly normal friendship a romantic relationship… but also qpr cara would slap.

Hello! I discovered your art from the game Paper Soldiers! I got 2 questions : 1) How many card illos did you make for that game (because I have not lasted midway yet haha...) 2) What was your process like for making each lil character?

hello! going to answer out of order so i can show you all my card illus under the cut hehe

making each chara was really fun! andriy gave me a list of character classes as well as what effects they would have on the board and gave me full freedom to design however i liked which was SO COOL. since the game was subbed under the Ukrainian division, i wanted to make charas that looked looked like they came from a fantasy world but with a look that would bring to mind Ukrainian design.

unfortunately i didn't have as much time to research as i'd like but i think i did ok! i made pinterest boards with outfit inspirations and scribbled up charas traditionally before drawing them digitally, which is something i really never do since im not good at trad art.. but with digi art i get really bogged down fixing mistakes and there was a really tight turnaround so concept art had to be trad

i had the privilege of designing 33 cards and writing flavour text!! :D

Who would be the big spoon?: Rocket and Fox would probably take turns, tho Rocket usually just lays on-top of Fox when he passes out. They both have their own ways of being affectionate with one another. I imagine that there are a few times they both discus who’s going to be big or little spoon. Rocket also enjoys being held a bit by Fox… But he doesn’t want anyone to know. (Also Imagine how precious Rocket looks as big spoon lol!)

Who would wake up first?: Most likely Rocket. Fox is kinda a sleepy head at times. Tho I’d say it varies on what they done the night prior?

Do they have nicknames for each other?: Yes! Rocket calls Fox ‘Foxy’ and Fox calls Rocket ‘Rocketman’, tho Fox wants to call him ‘Nibbles’ sometimes because of the affectionate biting. (He won’t tell Rocket that tho)

What happened when they met each other's parents?: They never met each others parents. But Fox has shared some of the memories he recalls with his father, James McCloud.

How do they apologize after an argument?: Fox is probably the one to apologize first, even when he isn’t in the wrong. Fox would apologize by wanting to confront the situation head on and talk it out. Rocket, well, he has a bit of a temper sometimes. But Fox understands. Rocket would probably appologize by making Fox some sort of trinket. Since he has a knack for building and creating things, something Fox admires (even tho he never asks Rocket to build him anything). There have been instances where Fox is the hot headed one, but generally they both probably make up by talking it out followed by a “You know I love you…”

What would they be like as parents?: Well, considering they don’t have ‘kids’ unless you count Groot, and he is usually almost always with The Guardian’s, I would say they would make very good fathers. They would probably teacher their kids how to fight, pilot, and defend themselves. Tho, I believe they would want their kids (if they had any) to chase and follow their own dreams. Rocket would be the one to yell allot tho, while Fox on the other hand is the more calm collective one.

Who is the better cook?:

Probably Fox? But he’s no ‘talented’ Chef.

Who is more romantic?:

Both show affection for one another in their own unique ways. I’d say Fox is probably the more romantic one, but Rocket has his own way about being romantic with Fox. Typically they enjoy giving one another love bites. It’s in their nature.

What sort of gifts do they get for each other?

Fox usually likes to surprise Rocket with things he knows he can put forth to use. Sometimes it’s minor things like scrap metal, tech, etc… But he knows Rocket has a deep love for music. Every so often he will hire someone to go to Earth and bring a few musical pieces back for him and Rocket to sift through. Something I think him and Rocket both would enjoy together. He would most likely also gift Rocket anything that goes BOOM. 😂 on a sentimental note, probably a nice dinner date and a few clichè things. I imagine Rocket on the other hand would get Fox something insane, but more than likely hand crafted. Fox is kinda a sucker for Rocket’s sweet trinket type gifts. Even when they are random or silly to others, Fox appreciates them.

Who gets jealous easiest?

Rocket.

Who gets more excited for events e.g.. Birthdays, Christmas?

I think Rocket is probably the more festive one. I canon Fox doesn’t know what Christmas really is.

Who is the most adventurous?

This is a tie, but Fox is definitely usually always up for getting out. Tho I imagine the further they get into their relationship they’re Adventures will become more here and there (especially with age)

Who is the most protective?

Rocket. Not that Fox isn’t very protective over Rocket (because he very much is). But… Rocket has a temper, and well… It definitely out weighs Fox’s 10 to 1. However, don’t be fooled, Fox would probably kill for Rocket if push comes to shove.

What would they have been like as childhood sweethearts?

IF this happened. I would imagine they would steal Fox’s dad (James) ‘Arwing in their teens and go to the skies. 😂 that ooor Rocket would come up with some crazy scheme for them to skip school.

In the aftermath, Audrey was horrified by what she had done. Sickened even. Disgusted.

There wasn't a moment of it that she didn't regret. The way she had behaved was despicable and the worst part was... she couldn't explain any of it other than the breaking into the museum part.

She couldn't explain why she had crashed Jane's party and cursed everyone despite her saying she'd never do so not even two years before.

Couldn't explain why she had thrown things at Chad or why she had locked him in a closet despite knowing about his claustrophobia.

Couldn't explain why she cursed Ben into being a beast despite the fact he told her that it was his greatest fear when they were younger.

She couldn't explain any of it.

Audrey felt sick looking back on it all.

She felt even sicker knowing that she hadn't exactly been on her best behavior before Ben's proposal either.

Even though she had tried to move on. Even though she had tried to be better, to be nicer.

She couldn't explain why she did any of it or why she had snapped. And she hated herself for it. Hated all she had done.

Hated that Chad could no longer look her in the eye after she had been awakened from the sleeping curse.

Hated that Chad needed a bit of time away from her and that he was going to stay with his step uncle for awhile. Even though she understood it.

She'd have gone away for awhile too.

After all, what are you to do when the one person you would have done anything for treated you as horribly as she had him?

A tiny voice in her head snarkily reminded her that she had done the same after Ben dumped her. But it had taken her longer. But Audrey did her best to ignore that voice.

Because what she had done to Chad was alot worse than Ben dumping her.

Audrey wanted to scream.

She should have appreciated Chad while she had him. Even if she'd never be able to love him the way he wanted.

After everyone found out that she'd been manipulated and somewhat possessed by Maleficent's scepter, the judgemental stares lessened. The harsh whispers behind her back did too.

People were even nicer to her than they had been after Ben dumped her.

Audrey hated it.

She didn't deserve it.

She knew she didn't deserve it.

Some people even started complimenting her on how much she'd grown after she helped plan Ben and Mal's wedding. After she did community service.

They were wrong.

She knew they were.

She hadn't grown.

She was just slowly inching back towards the girl she had use to be. Trying to pick up the pieces of her little 6 year old self's heart while also trying to desperately hold on to one of the only friendships she had managed to hold on to after the vks came.

But a part of her wasn't sure she could stop her and Chad's friendship from crumbling any further. Even though she desperately hoped so.

...Try changing jobs, try changing lovers...

Audrey tried to disappear from the public's eye for awhile. Tried to focus on doing good in summer school so she could graduate and go to college soon.

It didn't make her feel better.

She tried moving on from Ben. Tried moving on from her and Chad's deteriorating relationship.

He barely answered her calls and texts anymore. She didn't know just how empty her life without her best friend was until he stopped calling and texting as often. And it pained her.

She started talking to Harry Hook, who convinced her to let her wild side out more and more. Who convinced her to grow a backbone and stand up to her grandmother.

Audrey and him started dating, which eased the ache in her heart slightly.

But it didn't completely rid her of the pain and hate, and bitter memories. Of the knowledge that if she lost her best friend-- the only one who had stood by her side completely time and time again-- that it'd be her fault. And hers alone.

Audrey and Harry moved in together-- into a nice little apartment near the shore. Near where the Lost Revenge was stationed.

Harry let Audrey pick the furniture. On the condition that at least some of it matched his style as well as hers. Which was something she could work with.

She changed her bedsheets and her covers to more of a reddish color. Downsized her bed.

Healing slowly, one day at a time.

...I've changed my heart, but there's not a chance...

Audrey allowed herself to be kind and vulnerable again. Allowed the little girl she use to be before the insecurity and parental neglect, and helicopter grand-parenting got to her.

Allowed herself to move on fully from Ben and started going to therapy with not only Harry and his crew, but with Chad as well.

By all accounts, she was getting better. Feeling better.

But there was always gonna be that little dark spot on her soul. Always gonna be that little snarky and snide voice in her head telling her that she was never gonna be able to make up for all she had done to her friends.

Old and new.

To all those innocent people she had hurt.

Which made it hard to get out of bed some days.

...So turn the lights off ...

But that was fine.

Wounds took time to heal, after all.

And Audrey had plenty of time to heal.

Her friends, new and old, would make sure of that.

Especially the new.
