Transformers: Mosaic #425 - "Way To Fall"
Originally posted on October 22nd, 2009

wada sez: Mas released this highly unconventional strip under pseudonym due to the differences in content to his usual—but he interacted with commenters as usual on deviantART, so I think there’s no harm in crediting him properly. This strip gives an impressionistic origin story for Abraham Dante, the human Headmaster partner of Scorponok and leader of the Machination in Simon Furman’s comics for IDW. Mas uses allusions to Dante’s real-world namesake—writer of the Divine Comedy, a first-person account of a journey through the Christian afterlife—to play up the idea of a deal with the devil. This was Mas’ second attempt at a Mosaic strip primarily consisting of a collage of photos, after “The Oregonian”, but this was the first to be accepted for publication, presumably thanks to its more traditional format and original artwork. The human figures in this strip feature skeletal smiles superimposed over their mouths, the inspiration for which Mas attributes to the novel The Man Who Laughs, the movie adaptation of which apparently inspired Bill Finger in the creation of the most infamous Batman villain, the Joker. See below for a motivational poster released as a preview for the strip, and a machine translation of Mas’ commentary.

Well, I think this page deserves an explanation, for several reasons.
First, if you notice, I have signed with a pseudonym, that's according to the fact that I’ve used a very different—or totally different—style from mine, the cut of the story is intended to be sinister, mature and scary.... seems more a kind of paranoia or nightmare ... hence I decided not to include anything that could identify the story with anything or anyone, in this case ... say it's like a tormented part of me, had made that story ... something like that wanted to make itself understood.
A lot of people tell me that the style reminds me of Dave McKean.... please... I can't compare myself with that man in anything, but I take it as a compliment, the truth is that this was not the intention, but that's how it came out... it's very possible that unconsciously I resorted to his style, even so, he was the first to mix photographs with drawings and textures.... he’s a great artist, I haven’t discovered anything new.
On the other hand I had a thorn in my side, since I try that each mosaic has a more or less different style or a different cut, except when I make "sagas" as Masterforce, for example. Recall that I already made one based on retouched photographs, but it was rejected... now in this second attempt it was all good.
I wasn't sure if Transformers fans would get into the game on this page... it has a very different atmosphere from what we have seen so far, and above all from what we have seen in IDW, much more immature and poor in some aspects.
If we look... each vignette could have several readings or meanings.... for example the first one, we see a baby, lil’ Dante..... the photo’s mouth is swapped, what is below lets us glimpse his true nature..... nature that we will discover in the final vignette, where we see how he has always been, as a robot, an automaton, cold, energetic, calculating, insensitive ... with a big eye, as if it were a God, or something like that....
The second is a long panel, where we review a little of his life... and at the end in the lower right corner, we can glimpse something of "Machination".
The third .... we see him how we see the world leaders .... speaking to the people, in the upper right corner we see some soldiers, a war, the men of power pull while making decisions that condemn many. And that's why they hate them so much... maybe that's why they deserve to die instead of innocents, that's why the silhouettes of the guns pointing at him, the cracked line would reflect the inner torment of that person for something he doesn't have yet or can't get.
And the fifth... he swears allegiance to the devil himself, Scorponok, a superior being with the power to give life and take it away, in the lower right corner we see some demon pointing his trident at them...
As for purely the mosaic ... the idea was easy ... the human being is evil by nature or becomes ... well ... in this case it is clear that from the beginning Dante is a cruel being, and that his spirit is corrupt, like many people, politicians, military, people with power basically ... only they, would have access to deal with someone of his ilk, Decepticons, Demons.
I hope you enjoy it, and for those of you who don't like it, I hope the next one will be better.
Thanks for everything.

@o-craven-canto asked me this here so I might as well use this as an opportunity to talk about what exactly the "Primum Mobile" is and where exactly my OCs like Alexander come from
The Primum Mobile is basically my own little worldbuilding brainchild project, being a sort of Shin Megami Tensei inspired mythology world that's meant to combine aspects of Abrahamic and Greco-Roman mythology and folklore. It's one of many worlds based in a sort of multiverse of mine, made by the earth literally being fractured into different realms based on bodies and cannons of stories and folklore.
As for the Primum Mobile itself, it's a layered world built around the concept of "what if the underworld blended with the real world" and thus ends up sort of having people and monsters either living together or vying for control on the various layers. Keep in mind that I'm constantly changing my mind on how this works, so everything here is subject to change, but as it is the general layout is as follows:
Limbo, essentially the surface of the world, corresponding to the circle of the same name as well as the "purgatorio" section of the divine comedy. This is where a good majority of humans make their housing, in cities that literally rise above the wastes below them, and oftentimes have nearby forests, oceans, and other biomes that rise alongside them. One of these cities, New Eden, sort of corresponds to Florence and is the home of Alexander Durante- before he was exiled to the realms below for his crimes.
Lust essentially describes the abyss below limbo right between Limbo and gluttony, with the bases of these cities also making up the majority of people's dwellings here, and filled with winds of gasses so dense they form their own ocean. Most of the population consists of harpies and aerial demons who are capable of fighting against the winds here, as well as wayward souls who are trapped by the maelstrom. Massive effigies of long forgotten gods and legendary humans rise from the abyss- some with their own followings and cults. One such effigy, one of Minos, is consulted by those who have been exiled to the layers below regarding where they have to go to be free from their punishment.
Gluttony is the swamp below lust, and arguably where the "inferno" really begins. It's a bizzare mix of organic matters, with plant, animal, and fungus blending together to form the monsters and vessels for the souls here. Watch your step, lest you be devoured by the land itself.
(I'm going to be real with you guys I don't know what to do with greed yet, so like, just a forge with a ton of gold perhaps? Mechanical inspiration would be fun)
Wrath is basically an underground sea, with waterfalls and cascades leading to the circles below. settlements here usually consist of either floating, manmade settlements, or within the bellies of the aspidochelones of this area. Be sure to watch for the cetacean orcs of this place, and especially their lording cetuses.
The city of Dis is the other major settlement for humans, and quite possibly the most significant area of magical studies on this plane. Dominated by a circle-wide metallic city, and navigated by the streams that pour from the ocean above, it is home to demons and gods (as well as their aspects) that might have fallen out of favor with the humans above. Farinata, a major cult leader within this circle, is currently a significant figure for his attempts at a transhuman cult- one where his idea of "freedom" is achieved by locking yourself within a metallic body and incinerating your impurities.
Violence is one of the most bizarre layers, being dominated by massive trees holding up the foundations of Dis where there seems to be a constant war breaking out along the branches and supported settlements- one where monsters and overpowering wraiths of humans fight for dominance, as their blood spills in a rain below.
Fraud is arguably the most "artificial", being a labyrinthine, constantly shifting structure meant to prevent entry or exit from the layer below it, and built by a genius inventor know by many as Daedalus. Some legends even say he built his very being into the structure, building his soul into the structure as it carries his unknown goal. The group of demons known as the Malebranche reside here, ruled by Malacoda, and make it their life's work to contort any unfortunate tresspassers into whatever designs they decide fit.
Finally, Treachery stands at the center, where the bodies of giants and other beings posing threats to those above are sealed. Proserpina, the "ruler" of the lower layers, resides on this one, with a bizzare and legendary being known as "The Adversary" trapped in the core of this very core. Almost no humans who have embarked on the path of exile have made it to this region in centuries.
Like I said earlier, I'm constantly changing ideas for this world, but this is really the first time I've gotten the basic idea of how it works out online. I would appreciate feedback and questions as to how this works on a deeper level- both because I need to figure out some details myself and because I have some ideas for lore and stuff I want to share. Hope you guys enjoy this, and find it a bit interesting.

Barn Anon. Can't remember if i had sent this one already but ah I'll try to get back into the rhythm of writing now that CNY is over.
Gabriel's not sure what to think when his brothers tell him that his human is seeing things in her feverish state. Well, he can believe seeing stuff part, just not how she's apparently seeing their gene-father. He knows it's unlikely to be simply swept aside, because she has seen or heard anything about him. He's never mentioned much of his world or the history of Blood Angels, let alone their Primarch.
He hands her a tissue box after she has another violent sneezing fit. Perhaps it's a good thing she's sick, otherwise she would see the worry in his eyes. Can anyone blame him though? If word got out that some human from ancient Terra, bonded with a Space Marine and is now seeing visions of a dead Primarch got out... He lets out a soft worried warble, pulling his human into his arms.
He buries his face against her soft hair, feeling how she relaxes being warmed by his body. Hmm, he'll have to get thicker clothes or maybe more jackets for her. For now he simply sings to his human. He doesn't have much memory of his life before ascending, but he remembers a Baalite lullaby his mother used to sing to him.
He's never told her anything about Lord Sanguinius... he had not given her any books on him either... he's not even sure that they passed the large window with his depiction. Just when her fevers get bad is when she says she sees him with such pretty angel wings.
He supposes that his father was an angel now given how they were made, from his basic understanding of extinct ancient Terran religions... Abraham would probably know more... as he remembers the Word Bearer he was on... okay terms with. Gabriel frowns at how he would rely on the excitable Word Bearer to know strange esoteric knowledge on religion given how much it was a part of their daily lives... idioms... sayings... even replying to a sneeze!
She mutters parts of the conversation... butchering a mix of Baalite words and High Gothic... the Chaplain wants to hear more... and Gabriel is not one to disobey the Chaplain... just if he refuses he has a feeling the Chapter Master will want to hear... and he rather not expose her to Dante.
But she says he keeps her calm... how his feathers smell clean and feel so nice... she says that he knows she shouldn't be here... and that he coos just like Gabriel does. He rubs the cold cloth over her forehead... perhaps if its they both go or stay... perhaps Gabriel would happily be stuck in the past if it meant she survived.

dante was truly out of his gourd for saying moses, david and ABRAHAM were in fucking limbo. basically in hell. saying that they had to wait there until Jesus could "save" their souls. like that is a truly lethal wombo combo of antisemitism and arrogance. those dudes had a direct line to God, literally His favorite guys. that apparently does not matter to some italian wearing a salad for a hat

Half angel reader? BET! I like to think they have the same/similar power buffs as Dante (accelerated healing, strength, ect) but would they have an equivalent to Devil Trigger? Would could they turn into? Also which basis of angels would like to use? Like the scary biblical angels, the pretty ones in old art, or based in a game that has angels (my mind goes straight to Bayonetta and its lore)
Notes: *bayonetta's voice* Morning! Yeah, that's me finally answering this, um, request? It is more like an headcanons post, so here I brought y'all some headcanons of my own of what and how angels/half-angels would be in DMC Universe. It took me, at least, months and months of researching because goddamnit- it doesn't looks like, but angels have so many informations about them from Christian to Abrahamic religions, yet I think most of my hcs here came from Christian concept with a mix of DMC Universe, I think. I hope I don't offend anyone with this, btw.
So! Let's rock! Thank you for requesting and enjoy the experience as much as you can! (Again, this is more of an general hcs post, I'm just adding this 4Dante gif bcs it's somewhat I aimed to, y'know, relate + I love 4Dante with all my strength <3)
✦ Sidenote/To start off: Angels in the Devil May Cry universe do not "exist", they're treated like mythological beings and are mentioned throughout the whole series frequently. The DMC wiki suggests that demons once were angels, then there's The Fallen on DMC3 whose appearance is very angel-like and their description says they were in Heaven once. There's also The Seven Deadly Sins — said explicitly that they fell from celestial grace — Lucia's DT, the Angelo Knights (although they're demons but "Angelo" is the Italian word to angel, anyways you got the deal) and many more. I personally believe something happened to them, like, all of them fell and turned into demons, they're hiding somewhere or they were purely extinct… Also, this post is an open-one, that means y'all can reblog and add another headcanons of your own as much as you want!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These celestial creatures and their descendants match with the demons in general abilities such as superhuman strength, speed and durability, healing regeneration, and elemental control. However, there are facts that differentiate them from the infernal creatures, and they are:
Mortals faithfully believe that angels are humanoid beings of ethereal beauty with a singular and grandiose pair of wings. Depending on their placement in the angelic hierarchy, they range from human-like bodies to the most animalistic ones, and those that are "equal" in having a human shape are indeed heavenly beautiful. As for their wings, an angel can have one or more pairs of wings — again, all according to their position in the Celestial Spheres.
Contrasting with the demons' dark color palette, they have a more loaded palette of light tones such as white, blue and gold and in certain cases, brown. In their Angel Trigger, their bodies may or may not evolve further from their humanoid and animal-like molds with a kind of armor made of angelic stone that makes the most "human" angels vary between female and/or male silhouettes, their halos are on display and their faces take on a texture similar to a marble sculpture and do not move as they speak and express emotions; they're also able to control elements such as fire — restricted only to seraphim —, lightning, nature and ice.
As stated before, their ATs are usually able or not to evolve their basic bodies. For example: the cherubim are large and leonine, when they have the Angel Trigger activated, they become a triple combination of angel, eagle, a human head and four pairs of wings of divergent sizes. Seraphim, with a body that merely resembles a human one and with elements of fire for their clothing, become extensive flaming serpentine figures with six pairs of wings.
Angels are literally cold-blooded. Their natural icy blood differs from the warm blood of demons so they can withstand the lower temperatures of high reliefs, cold weather environments, and Heaven itself. Still, it's not a total benefit to the hybrids as thanks to their human half, they constantly need to be warmed up when exposed to these low temperatures for too long.
The halo of angels is made of light and a part of their soul, as it is what carries their identity according to their function in their respective Celestial Sphere, going from the most detailed to superior positions — seraphim, cherubim, thrones — to the simplest for lower positions — principalities, archangels, common angels. Halos, when exposed, can make the angel vulnerable to greater amounts of damage and in extreme cases on a battle, lead them to death.
All hybrids have only one pair of wings, regardless of which angel they descend from. They can measure between 5 to 8 meters in length and the color of their feathers can be entirely white or have brown, golden, silvery or bluish shades. Although they can be summoned at will, they only appear when a hybrid "matures" — around fourteen or fifteen years old —. It's not a pleasant process, the wings don't magically appear, they literally rip the flesh off the back and break some rib bones. Due to the high amount of damage, not all hybrids survive during the appearance of the wings, and those that have resisted the pain are able to regenerate in around two to three hours.
The term used to designate the hybrids, "Nephilim", is extremely offensive since its concept comes from the fallen and impure angels who failed to hide their children from the supreme forces of Heaven. It also refers to the infernal giants that, by their angelic reminiscent appearance, were associated with the heavenly creatures. "Nephilim" is commonly used by demons as a way of offending and despising their children, a remembrance to the angels' hypocrisy.
Angels and Demons cannot touch each other when using their powers or activating their Triggers during battle. This is also valid for half-angels and half-demons. Once their opposing essences collide, accidentally or not, the sensation will be the same as having been fatally burned, the place hit will present purple and/or blue veins with a golden energy for the angels and another fuchsia for the demons.

Regarding my character, Lucifer Fallhaven, also known as 7saith:
For a few months now, something has been weighing heavily on my mind. While I will not name names or delve into specific incidents that occurred, it has come to my attention that certain individuals have accused me of blasphemy and of promoting blasphemous ideas through my character work.
Frankly, I find these accusations not only absurd—but also deeply offensive. Historically, my ancestors were pagans before being subjugated by Christianity in the eighth century, a period marked by the slaughter of my people and the seizure of our lands during the so-called holy wars. Many of the figures of my life, some of you would consider part of dead religions... this is simply not the case.
In case you didn't get that: my people were killed due to being accused of b.lasphemy....
Recently, I've been informed that a particular person has labeled me problematic because of my character, Sacrosire, who is known as Lucifer's father. Ironically, anyone familiar with the Bible would know that Lucifer was traditionally considered to have parents aka not g*d. In my narrative, Lucifer's mother is deceased, and his adoptive mother is her sister. His father, Sacrosire, is portrayed as the God of Time.
Tumblr media
From the outset, I have made it clear that this character is not meant to adhere strictly to Abrahamic traditions. The term "heavenly" in my context is inspired by works like Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, which famously reinterprets biblical concepts.
Lucifer, as I've developed him, is more of an original character—a scapegoat in a narrative grander than the one traditionally told. In my storyline, Sacrosire rules the light heavenly kingdom and raises Lucifer's brother, Merihem, while Lucifer himself is relegated to the depths of hell. This divergence from traditional lore is intentional, providing a fresh perspective on familiar themes.
I've been informed that this individual has gone out of their way to spread harmful rumors about me and has a history of bullying behavior, often with the support of their friends.
Today, I'm standing up for myself because this situation has been blown way out of proportion. It's one thing to handle situations differently, but to act as if you know my religious views, openly mock my characters in vague terms, and suggest that my character, Brighta, doesn't measure up to your own female muses, is likely more of a reflection of your own inner struggles.
I know some of my mutuals are also connected with these individuals. I have no issue with that, as I've blocked most of the people who make me uncomfortable. This isn't about drama—I'm over it. I plan to bring Lucifer back and start fresh, free from these unfounded allegations.
