It’s been a while since I posted one of my abstracts so here’s one that I was able to make a few weeks ago. When the sky is bursting with colours and creating different layers of colour, it is always a good candidate for a camera pan. . I love the layers it created here in this portrait crop that was cut out from the landscape version. The already present layers in the sky and water blurs to soften the defining layers making for a more ephemeral viewing experience. . I find these images quite mesmerizing as well. . How about you? Keeping the horizon in the middle creates a balance of elements in my frame. Once I move the horizon below or above the centre of the image, it can change the way we feel about the image. . Burning Rocks. . It was a special morning when I glanced below me to witness a spectacular scene emerge right beneath my feet. . Everywhere I looked I saw dots of orange glow from the water-covered rocks below. Looking closer you will see that these rocks are not on fire but the layer of water around them are actually reflecting the golden light of the sun as it rose above the horizon. . It was a unique scene that I don’t think I’ve ever noticed before. . Have you ever seen this effect before? . Nature’s Chaos. . We can often see the bigger picture in front of us, but when we narrow our view to select areas in front of us, we can see a part of nature that you seldom recognize. . I loved the chaos depicted here from the fine autumn-coloured leaves which are tangled amongst the thin branches originating from the bottom right. . It’s all chaotic, but there’s always order when you look for it. . Rings of Fire. . I love these four fire rings created in-camera during my abstract pan one morning. The fiery light at the horizon set the stage for a brilliant pan as the sky on top and water on the bottom sandwich the light. The rings of light are created by a single light source at the horizon and with a little bit of a fancy panning movement. . Do you see the rings? . Did you know photographing a blade of grass can be very challenging? With so many ways to go about it, it can be tough to find one composition that works well. . Finding one with dew on the tip, using a shallow depth of field of f/3.2, and angling the lens so the right bokeh appears with the backlight, it can take a while before you get the right composition that feels well. . Because it was so dense here, you can even spot the shadows of other blades of grass in the bokeh balls scattered around the photo, . Textures and colours. . That’s what shines during the early morning hours. The first picture shows the beautiful colours reflected on the lake while the other two photos shows the texture you can create simply by panning your camera on a long exposure. . On the second photo, a slight pan over a six second exposure slightly blurs the clouds while the texture on the water blurs to the point it almost looks like the surface of metal. . Flight of Fancy . I’ve always loved capturing the motion of birds, so it was a bonus to have several cormorants lined up side by side, flying in front of the sunrise. . By slowing down the shutter ever so slightly, and panning my camera as well, these flying cormorants become more whimsical, abstract pieces of art. . Good morning Toronto! . After two days of migraine headaches and largely just staying in bed, shielding my eyes from bright lights, I’m feeling like a million bucks today! What a difference! . This all stemmed from straining my neck by placing my laptop on an angle on my desk, which just goes to show you you can’t neglect proper exercise and posture—especially as you get older in life. It’s also never too early to start as well. Starting good habits from an earlier age will ensure you keep them as you get older. . We need some colour this week—enough with the clouds! . A patchwork of water and clouds with a more subtle colour palette than my usual #abstractionseriesbytaku posts. . How was this done?
