Title: colossal statue of Ramses II
Author: constructed by PharaohRamsesII
Medium: seelishi
Date: constructed between 1264 BCE and 1244 BCE during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II of the 19th Dynasty
Current Location: located at the AbuSimbelTemple
Details: The pharaoh statues represent the holy status of Egyptian rulers, while the Moai statues in the first chapter stand for the spiritual power (mana) of ancestors. Both show the strong influence of rulers or ancestors in their societies and were used to protect the people and their culture, which made me connect the two. Pharaoh statues are usually placed near temples or important religious buildings, facing key landscapes like the Nile River, to highlight the pharaoh's power and connection to the gods. On the other hand, the Moai statues face inland, protecting the local people, symbolizing the ancestors' care for their descendants.

An inside peek into Abu Simbel. Until very recently you couldn’t take photos inside this temple. Now, you can, but you have to buy a “photography ticket” at the entrance. (This includes cellphone photos too!) A separate photography ticket was actually pretty common while we were in Egypt (I even notice some places in Russia have this now, too). If you’re curious to learn more about Abu Simbel, check out the link in my bio. 💕 • • • • • • • • #gltlove #travelgram #uniladadventure #orbitzpic #expediapic #abusimbel #abusimbeltemple #abusimbelegypt #egypttravel #egypt #egyptphotography #ramsesii #travelegypt #travelabusimbel #discoverglobe #theglobewanderer #tlpicks #travelholic #bestvacations #wonderfulglobe #travelblogger #travellershouts #discoverearth #discoverglobe #worldnomads (at Abu Simbel, Aswan, Egypt) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0L1DfNBVlO/?igshid=1c1qe8nkh5045

Two Temples of Abu Simbel
Are you ready to embark on an incredible journey through time? Come with me as we explore the ancient world of Abu Simbel! Situated on the banks of the majestic Nile River in Egypt, Abu Simbel Temple is a true marvel of ancient architecture and a testament to the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians. With its massive statues and intricate carvings, this temple complex is a sight to behold. And lucky for us, EgyptaTours is here to guide us through this incredible experience. As we approach the entrance of Abu Simbel Temple, we are immediately struck by the grandeur of its towering statues. These colossal figures, standing at over 65 feet tall, depict the great pharaoh Ramses II. The attention to detail is simply astounding - every muscle, every facial feature, meticulously carved to perfection. It's as if Ramses himself is standing before us, welcoming us into his kingdom. Stepping inside the temple, we are transported back in time to an era of great power and opulence. The walls are adorned with vibrant hieroglyphics, telling stories of ancient battles and divine ceremonies. The ceiling is a masterpiece of astronomical knowledge, with constellations and celestial figures painted in exquisite detail. It's awe-inspiring to think that these ancient Egyptians had such a deep understanding of the universe. But perhaps the most captivating feature of Abu Simbel Temple is its alignment with the sun. Twice a year, on February 22nd and October 22nd, the rising sun illuminates the inner sanctum of the temple, casting a beam of light onto the statues of Ramses and the gods. This phenomenon is a testament to the advanced astronomical knowledge possessed by the ancient Egyptians. It's a truly magical experience to witness this ancient ritual come to life before our very eyes. Exploring the ancient world of Abu Simbel is a journey like no other. The sheer scale and beauty of this temple complex is enough to leave anyone in awe. So, let's grab our cameras and get ready to make memories that will last a lifetime with EgyptaTours!

Abu Simbel, site of two temples built by the Egyptian king Ramses II (reigned 1279–13 BCE), now located in Aswān muḥāfaẓah (governorate), southern Egypt. In ancient times the area was at the southern frontier of pharaonic Egypt, facing Nubia. The four colossal statues of Ramses in front of the main temple are spectacular examples of ancient Egyptian art. By means of a complex engineering feat in the 1960s, the temples were salvaged from the rising waters of the Nile River caused by erection of the Aswan High Dam. Carved out of a sandstone cliff on the west bank of the Nile, south of Korosko (modern Kuruskū), the temples were unknown to the outside world until their rediscovery in 1813 by the Swiss researcher Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. They were first explored in 1817 . #ABUSIMBELTEMPLE #Egypte #thisisegypt #travlpassion #travelmoments #exploreegypt #travelbucketlis #borntotravel #shetravels #instatraveling #instaphoto #globetrotters #travellife #culture #historicplaces #ancientegypt #beautifuldestinations #nilecruises #touristattractions #amazingegypt #Travelstock #travel #ADVENTURE #adventuretravel #sheisnotlost #weworktotravel https://www.instagram.com/p/CLmaB9QsD60/?igshid=19ryml2va22lv
