its so funny to me that although ludger could have easily and efficiently wiped his enemies with the power of [the goddess who loves humans very much], instead, he chose to flex his power and completely obliterate them in the most petty way possible. he killed:

the lightning wizard of color with lightning

the fire wizard of color with fire

the entire holy army with holy power

the almost equivalent of the pope with the same god that he worships

you cant even call this massacre a poetic vengeance because he clearly didnt even see them as a worthy enemy but more of a swarm of annoying pests that need extermination.

ironically, ludger was created to become a vessal of a god, yet not only he rejected this divinity but also became the exact opposite of one — the manifestation of pettiness, a trait that is unmistakably very human.

personally i cannot digest the desperately knocking ur nemesis' door with "u are the only one i could trust right now" trope bc i tend to find them extremely unrealistic but this novel manages to do it in the most hilariously in-character way possible and i think the only reason it succeeds is that because the characters in question are both aro.

like, how else do u explain the "since i would rather die single, in facing the threat of my family forcing me into an arranged marriage, my next best action plan should be going to my archrival and asking them to commit fake marriage because my archrival is the only one i know competent enough to pull it off, and im 1000% certain that we wont fall for each other no matter what we do."

A few days ago, I binged another manhwa in two days. What do I have to say about Academy's Undercover Professor? MC IS SO DAMN HOT???? AND BADASS??? SIGN ME UP!

(Kind of out of context spoilers if you didn't read it and plan to? Like, just screenshots of MC? But I also comment them, so expect spoilers there lmao)

Storywise, the twists and turns are really entertaining. I looked into the novel, if it was worth a read after LOTM. A lot of reviews aren't that kind, citing it is repetitive and cliché, but if it's done right, I enjoy that type of stuff. So I'm letting it marinate a bit, so it can have a good translation lmao

I adore smart, badass MCs, so this seems like my cup of tea. It's really interesting how we're 60 chapters in and we still don't know Rudiger's real name, only past fake identities. And those identities are impressive! He's like a jack of all trades, it keeps things interesting

Also, the fact that he needs to be cautious on multiple fronts really adds a bit of anxiety in the mix, it keeps me on my toes.

love how ludger could withstand mental attacks from luitpold/ruipold not because his mental defense was strong, but its because there was literally nothing luitpold could do to guilt trip or break ludger further since ludger had always believed he himself was the worst/most guilty and also already made peace with the fact that he would eventually have to pay for it with his own life after he accomplishes all his goals. if nothing else, those mental attacks only strengthened his resolve to push forward and dig his grave deeper.

Just finished Carmen sandiego for the second time and I have a theory, about Shadowsan

Okay so I can’t talk about this without spoiling the entire first season and it could also be spoilers if it turns out canon, so don’t blame me if you get spoiled cuz I wanted y’all. If you do decide not to read it however, I swear y’all will miss out.

My gut always told me that something’s sucpicious about shadowsan, not only about the reveal that came along on the ninth episode. Well, even if I actually did realise it a few moments before it was revealed that he was the one who found black sheep as a baby I actually saw it as a really good and interesting plot-twist. So, now we know why he cheated on her final exam and chased her when she escaped and also why he always wanted to send tigress on missions, but there are still things that still doesn’t make any sense and I have come up with the explanation.

The first thing is the obvious, why he happened to stumble across her in Argentina in the first place, which was brought upon in the show. I do not have a clear explanation for this, but I do think that this is related to my theory in some way. Yes, my belief is that shadowsan must be some sort of undercover agent of ACME who is part of VILE due to collecting information around it.

The first thing that I noticed myself is that when paper star snatched the ID card or whatever, and the professor who hacked the card claimed not to have found out anything about ACME, even then, shadowsan instantly referred to it as an anti crime organisation, which is exactly what ACME is.

 One hint is that I noticed is when Chief contacts Julia about the situation and claims to have sent nearby reinforcements, yet no ACME agents were to be seen. yes, there were actual cops there, but keep in mind that ACME is a classified organisation so I doubt that they would send local police. However, we never see Shadowsan chase down Ivy and therefore he could have gotten the call from Cheif before that and therefore he must be the one to call the cops and return to save Carmen. She must have said soomething about her not being trusted, but as we know Shadowsan, he would shake it off and go to save Carmen instead of Chase.

The final and most accurate detail to support this is that he told Carmen that the thing he wanted to prevent was Carmen to end up evil, but wouldn’t it be the opposite if he actually was a true teacher at Vile academy? It supports this fact that he never got along with the other professors to begin with and was also willing to leave the island for good. well, the reason why he wanted to leave could also be for the sake of being with his adoptive daughter, but I hope you understand what I’m coming from here.

well, this theory is far from believable and polished, but there is something that tells me that this is the case, judging from intuition. We can hope for the best and see how things turn out when the rest of this show comes out. Until then, I’m hoping for the best.

okay, but how much exactly do we know about the goddess that possesses r/ludger?

1. we know she can revive the dead (more specifically someone who's recently died)

2. she's an absolute nuisance to r/ludger because she keeps talking crap into his head (which he is thankfully protected from by the three seals)

3. everyone has an instinctive fear towards her (proven by r/ludger covering mastella's eyes and ambella from the elven forest, both of which encountered the goddess with/without sight— well a part of her anyway..)

4. she's a heretic god that was banished by lumensis (honestly no surprise here considering the amount of gods she's banished atp)

—anything I missed out?? someone help because I suck at remember things..

I still have some questions though— like I know grander is old and all but how does she know how to create those seals to suppress the goddess?

more importantly, why didn't she finish her original job after meeting r/ludger (heathcliff)?

^^this is totally not an excuse for me to rant about my growing desire to watch bretus to be smashed to smithereens...

for a character with a reputation of being extremely rational and logical, many of ludger's actions are actually quite emotionally motivated. even when he stays oblivious to his true emotions, there are still many instances where we can see how they unknowingly manifest in his actions and subtly influence his biases. i think ludger's second most toxic trait is that he tends to subconsciously cook up a seemly logical reason to spontaneously cover up his emotional ass because he cannot admit to himself that he feels emotions intensely.

exhibit A: his vengeance for arte's death required him to admit that he had a strong attachment to the kid, so he stated that eliminating the evil and offering solace to the victims were the actual reasons. counter: there were many better ways to deal with delica's incidents if his goal was simply enacting justice. even hans realised that this was a weak excuse to conceal his regrets.

exhibit B: his mercy towards aiden required him to admit his unwillingness to eliminate him, so he covered it up by reasoning that it would be too risky to take a student's life. counter: we know very well that he's fully capable of eliminating someone without leaving a trace if he puts his mind to the task.

exhibit C: his sparing casey's life twice required him to admit his disinclination to kill her, so instead, he reasoned that she was more useful alive and that her excessive pride wouldn't let her easily expose him to the public anyway. counter: strategically speaking, turning her against blackdawn was an obvious blunder. he didn't even need her to deal with them. plus, somehow he conveniently forgot at the moment that casey could still have told her best friend, terinna, about his identity regardless of the matter of pride and subjected him to even worse danger.

exhibit D: his taking owens under his wings and founding u.n. owen required him to admit his emotional bonds to them, so he claimed that he needed a strong fortress for his goals and his own protection, especially against the bretus. counter: considering his op-ness, he had never really needed protection. he also mainly tasked owens with leg work while dealing with most of the dangers by himself. he even ended up disbanding them to confront bretus on his own and telling them to prioritize their lives over his goals.

at first glance, his reasoning might seem sound and logical, but if we look at them for more than ten seconds, they are actually quite flimsy and contradictory. this is not to say he's inherently an idiot or a terrible liar. ludger's capability of reasoning is proven comparable to that of casey. he is also an excellent liar when it comes to deliberately lying to someone. but how does one reason or lie about feelings that they themselves are not even aware of?

my hypothesis:

when his suppressed emotions subconsciously influence his biases and/or manifest into his actions, ludger needs to convince himself that he is still being logical, and thus, without even realising it, he tries to rationalize them and grab onto whatever reason that momentarily sounds in his mind: why was he so dedicated to teaching his students? he couldn't get caught half-assing his job, and he wanted to earn the trust of the president. why did he save esmeralda? quasimodo annoyed him, so he had to step in. why did he delay the first princess' orders and prioritize the students' safety during the attacks on the capital? it was the princess' trusted blade himself who suggested saving the students, and not him. why did he accept casey's companionship during his moriarty's era? it was an act, and he was simply getting into his character.

whether ludger wants to admit it or not, he has always been a person moving according to his emotions. and the actual reason why we see so many inconsistencies and hypocrisies in his actions when aligning all of them together with his own logic is that his reasonings are only flimsy excuses that his subconsciousness makes up on the fly to rationalize away his repressed emotions, i.e. his strong attachments to this world.
