Heyoooo!!! I adore your fics!!!!! Absolutely mind-blowing and as such, I have a request- so basically I loveeeeee 40’s music especially Frank Sinatra and I also really like Masters of the Air so I wanted to ask if you could write a fic based on the song “Come fly with me” ??
Like Bucky and y/n are both pilots and majors in the army and before every mission they quote the some to each other. For instance, he says “come fly with me, angel?” and she replies “let’s fly away, Major”. So the fic is basically the lyrics of the song- they dream of things they’d do when the war is over like going down to Acapulco bay.
And it gets a little angsty when they have the last mission before he goes MIA but somehow they find each other as POWs and get out together? And then he says in the end “I always knew you’d come fly with me, doll” and she replies “i’ll always fly away with you, bucky”
That's such a good idea!!!!!! I'm going to start working on it!!! Thank you for the request!!!!!!

Any headcannons about the interactions between Piri, Mexico, and Spain? Since Piri was technically directly administered by Mexico for the majority of their time as colonies of Spain, how do you think their relationship would have been? And then what are your thoughts on how it would have been like when the colonial link between Piri and Mexico abruptly ended, and Spain was suddenly in and around Piri more often than before?
small note: I'm not as familiar with the histories of spain and mexico respectively, so i apologize for any errors or inaccuraries on my part! there's a lot i'm missing here as well because of how expansive this period was (literally 300+ years) but if you want any specifics feel free to send an ask anyway. as always, i'm defaulting to my PH OC for this, but you may use what i have for your interpretation of canon PH if you wish
i have the current personification of the philippines originally be the precolonial polity of tondo in my personal headcanon (and there's a lot to unpack and discuss there), so when she met spain for the first time they were pretty close in physical age with both more or less being in their teens (philippines being a younger teen at the time, but still); mexico, however, i see as being a result of colonization, born from the ruins of tenochtitlan as spain fashioned new spain into being, and as a result was very much a child in comparison. the hilarity that it's mexico-- still a kid-- who technically had more authority as the spanish east indies (philippines) were administered under new spain ensues
mexico being young also meant that a lot of the time she was operating under spain's instructions and influence, and often his authority superseded her's when it came to the spanish east indies, which was really more of a region part of the viceroyalty of new spain; i want to acknowledge the different power dynamics that were at play under the spanish empire, and that mexico was very much an important jewel to the spanish empire, but both she and philippines were still, at the end of the day, colonies under the spanish empire's eyes
that said i do think mexico and philippines interacted regularly with each other, mostly through trade (manila-acapulco galleon trade ties); the disparity between their physical ages helped to even out their dynamic a bit, and they often shared and exchanged aspects of their cultures with one another, influencing each other whether it be in food (ie. the evolution between the mexican drink champurrado and the rice porridge champorado, both utilizing chocolate, or the evolution of champoy/kiamoy in chinese-filipino communities to the chamoy sauce in mexico) or clothing or theater; both left an undeniable mark upon one another, and despite the disagreements and issues they had they were more or less very good friends-- a childhood friend on mexico's end even
that said, there were disagreements; it's bad enough philippines had gradually lost her sovereignty (although the conditions of that were complicated), spain had decided to put her under the technical administration of a viceroyalty whose personification was more or less a child, and the differences in that power dynamic on was felt; philippines did understand mexico was only doing what was instructed of her and much of her resentment fell more towards spain, but that didn't mean she and mexico didn't have disagreements from time to time
philippines (as tondo) had first met spain when he arrived together with the command of miguel lopez de legazpi at the shores of what is now manila bay (when spain had arrived with ferdinand magellan prior he had met a different polity), and while mexico was the one technically administering philippines spain was certainly still present, often intervening especially during times of more expansive military conflict such as the seven years war-- the spanish empire was expansive, and a lot of the basic tasks of administration as a result fell on mexico's shoulders, but that doesn't mean spain wasn't present in his own way as well, stepping in even at mexico's own protests at times
philippines and spain's close physical age gap and the fact both met as personifications with centuries already under their belts evidently means i don't see them as parent-child, but it doesn't mean spain wasn't also a big influence on her; the nature of their relationship during the colonial period was Complicated(tm), and i could probably expound on this another time, but essentially spain was sort of like an upperclassman mentor she was suspicious of but still drew influence from regardless; there's a lot more i could go into, from the colonial violence to the ways in which spanish cultural influence in religion and otherwise came with the creation of systemic structures that would make their adoption an implicit pressure that required conformity to access any amount of privilege under colonialism, but i don't want to discount hers (or even mexico's tbh but i'm less familiar with that history) agency for that matter either; philippines did feel the pressure to conform in a lot of areas, but sometimes she did adopt influences because she thought it was fashionable, and a lot of times even made some of those influences her own (indigenization/filipinization); it's messy and complex and maybe someday i'll expound on this in the future, but that day isn't today
whether it came from mexico or spain though, philippines did often more or less carry on doing her own thing; the physical distance between the spanish east indies and spanish crown did mean a lot of the time philippines pushed forward with doing what she wanted anyway, sometimes even ignoring missives from above completely if she could get away with it. mexico was usually far and only administering on a technical level, and spain was often too far away in europe or elsewhere in some other colony to do much anyway, so insert shrug emoji here
philippines had watched mexico grow, probably was bewildered by how fast she grew too (as these new world kids often did grow exponentially fast), and overall i do think she was sympathetic as insurgencies grew and she began demanding independence from spain; ultimately though i don't think philippines saw her fate tied with mexico. mexico did await the day philippines would gain her own independence again though, so that they could restart their relations as true equals; of course the road to ph independence... definitely had a lot of setbacks
after mexico became independent full administration of the philippines came fully under the spanish crown, and spain was more present in philippines's life; evidently she didn't receive it well as by the end of the century she would fight for her own independence, and even prior revolts against colonial authority were a regular par of the philippine experience under spain (although definitely complicated in its own right, something i'll also need to expand on someday)
there's. a lot more i would have wanted to go into and some stuff here is tentative but!! here's a rough idea basically

god this whole thing with Otis is as fascinating as it is horrifying. 0 models earlier (literally ~30 hours ago) predicting anything more than a TS as best and in six hours it exploded from a mid-tier TS to a Cat 4 and now is absolutely blasting Acapulco as a Cat 5. NO models!!! Forecasting has it's quirks and data can only do so much for telling the future but... this is wild. Those poor people, man. Literally no warning, and it's making landfall right in the bay. I can't even imagine.

BIOGRAPHY:
( tw: crime, death, robbery, depression, alcoholism )
Born and raised in the idyllic Aurora Bay to two loving parents, Sabrina Ciceró has not always been as she appears. Underneath the now guarded and untrusting rebel was once an enthusiastic and confident child who dreamed of a life without limitations. First stop, parliament. Next stop, world domination.
When her parents decided to immigrate to America from Mexico before she and her older brother were born, they swore to give their children the best life possible. Despite being quite settled back in Acapulco, Mexico; their new lives in America came at a cost to their luxury and their parents ended up becoming the owners of a local convenience store. At school, Rina had some trouble fitting in, choosing to go against the grain and stand up for herself when bullies chose to pick on them or others, making her an outcast. Getting a reputation for being precocious from a young age.
Most of Rina's life was spent at the store her parents owned. Whether she was helping out her family or just relaxing behind the counter, she and her brother could often be seen together. The store was open 24 hours a day, therefore they all took turns to man the store during night shifts. Rina's brother, Mateo was doing the midnight shift when the store was held up by a gunman. While Mateo didn’t try and be a hero, the gunman thought he was attempting to push the security alarm and alert police. Mateo was shot and killed at only the age of 18.
After the sudden death of her brother, Rina's whole life went downhill. The Ciceró's were left traumatized by losing a son and the memory of the traumatic event meant that they closed the store that had once been like a second home. The police weren't able to find the shooter, so the case inevitably went cold. Not able to cope with the loss, Rina's mother turned to heavy alcohol abuse to which, her father would not abide by. Rina started rebelling too, going against the Roman Catholic lifestyle her father always peddled. She got covered in tattoos, pierced her nose, dabbled with illicit substances while underage. After years of watching his wife deteriorate and his child rebel, he eventually left. It's been six years and he has never returned.
To cope, Rina found that she needed to escape the shittiness of her new living situation. She started hanging out with older kids, getting into trouble. Eventually, she joined a band as a guitarist and it was the only thing she lived for. The sense of community they felt was what they was missing at home and in time, they found who they really were. They came out as non-binary and queer. Her mother didn't care, only thinking of the bottle but Rina had never felt more themselves. At the age of 17 they dropped out of school to start working at a local hairdresser where they learned the ropes. Eventually, she started getting a name for herself with the younger crowd who weren't interested in the usual styles of hair and makeup.

Calvo, S. (2017, March 6). Ilocos Sur, Philippines: The Heritage Province. Culture With Travel. Retrieved February 22, 2023, from https://www.culturetrav.co/2017/01/11/ilocos-sur-philippines-heritage-province/
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

0949 1July24: Chapter 183
Missed posting 30June24.
2205 1July24:
I couldn't just write that as my post.
Brief talking with my film buddy this morning. I really want to explore the possibility of getting an original BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera. That, along with a decent little micro four thirds zoom lens, would be like a perfect little travel camera.
It's an old camera per say but it's still a very valuable camera for your arsenal.
The reality is... I need to focus, filmwise, on bettering my bmpcc4k rig and getting either a set of cinema lenses or getting that sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lens. And if I maintain bettering my BMPCC4K rig, then I should go ahead and focus on a better computer system because at the end of the day all these great cameras and equipment won't mean shit if I can't edit the footage nicely. So I suppose the BMPCC4K rig should be my focus for the camera talk.
With that being said. I do have a few busy days these next few days, but I should go ahead and start thinking about the kind of footage I want to use to start bringing my character to life. Bringing this character to life means I do need a name. I've been leaning on Viktor for a while, but that spelling has an Eastern European spelling, which means I would need to use an accent.
I have, well, not fully, but I did mention it to my nephew about filming, which, as I write this, is kind of bringing the storyline together a bit.
Before I wrote this, I was thinking of sewing him some clothing up and filming him. Doing so, I was thinking of calling the short "The Apprentice," but as I write this I figure it would be great for a silent style film or very little talking style of film.
Think about it. A European dude scores a deal with a Manila Trade Galleon in Acapulco to get passage to Manila. Once arriving at the mouth of Manila Bay, the captain knew bringing a white man into Manila would not be good as the Spanish and English were at war. So he sends him ashore to the province of Bataan. The dude makes a dwelling and brings his knowledge of woodwork to the Philippines. So while working on his lathe one day, he notices someone peaking through the window. This goes one a few times to the point where the man leaves a plate with some bread and a cup of water on the window seal.. like clock work, the young man shows up... he watches and enjoys the bread and water. Without the ability to speak to each other, a series of gestures are traded, bringing the boy inside the shop, and slowly, he teaches him about woodworking, baking, and blacksmithing.
So I can keep the title of "The Apprentice," and now I just need to really develop the story and storyboard. This would give enough chances to build a decent story and possibly bring on more characters slowly... but the focus should be thr main story which I have written about thus far in this post. I feel there is enough beef and a little bit of potatoes to run with a decent little story.

How Did Hurricane Otis & Hurricane Norma Affect The Boat & Yacht Marinas That Stood In Their Path?
In October 2023, two intense hurricanes—Otis and Norma—battered Mexico's coastlines. We all know Mexico as a popular boating and fishing destination, but these hurricanes reminded everyone how wild and unpredictable the sea can be.
Let us show you the real impact of Hurricanes Otis and Norma on Mexico and why you must get Mexico boat insurance if you plan to sail these waters.
Hurricane Otis was a record-breaking disaster
When Hurricane Otis hit Acapulco as a Category 5, it became the strongest hurricane ever recorded in this region. Winds were blowing at an incredible 113.64 mph, with gusts even stronger at 204.90 mph! Otis completely devastated 480 tourist boats across the state of Guerrero and sank at least 33 in Acapulco Bay alone.
The marinas were devastated. Securely moored boats found their way to the bottom of the bay or shattered into pieces. The bay of Puerto Marqués and Playa Manzanillo turned into disaster zones, littered with capsized boats.
The financial impact was extreme as well. Enki Research estimated the damage at around USD 15 billion. That surpasses the damages caused by Hurricane Wilma, making Otis Mexico's most expensive weather disaster ever.
The disastrous Hurricane Norma
Hurricane Norma (initially a Category 4) made its way towards Mexico's west coast soon after. By the time it reached Baja California Sur as a Category 1, it still caused significant destruction. Streets flooded, and winds over 90 mph ravaged the coast—with the strongest gusts in Cabo San Lucas reaching 107 mph.
The marinas in La Paz got hit hard. Many sailboats and yachts moored along the coast suffered extensive damage or were completely destroyed. The situation got so bad that over 400 people were stranded on a ferry when the port had to shut down.
The financial damages in Baja California Sur and Sinaloa totaled USD 11.1 million and USD 12.2 million, respectively—amounting to over USD 23.3 million in infrastructural losses.
What's the big lesson?
The aftermath of Hurricanes Otis and Norma reminds everyone that sailing can be unpredictable, and one must always be prepared. Getting the right Mexico boat insurance should be a priority if you plan to sail to Mexico from the US or Canada.
When buying Mexico boat insurance, you are looking at two main coverage types—hull insurance and watercraft liability. Hull insurance protects your boat against physical damage. Whether the damage or loss comes from storms or collisions, it will cover the cost of repairs or replacements.
Watercraft liability is just as important. It provides coverage if your boat accidentally causes injury or property damage. For example, it will help cover the repair costs if your boat floats away during a storm and crashes into another.
Get your Mexico boat insurance quote today!
Despite the destruction Hurricanes Otis and Norma brought, the appeal of Mexico's waters has remained strong. But these events do show us the importance of being prepared with the right insurance.

The official death toll from Hurricane Otis has risen to 52, while authorities assure that the search continues for 32 people still missing, two months after the devastating Category 5 hurricane hit Acapulco on Oct. 25.
The governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado, gave the update during President López Obrador’s Wednesday morning press conference, citing figures from the state Attorney General’s Office. She said that the remains of 46 of the dead have been given to their families, while six more bodies have yet to be recovered.
“Search actions on land continue, together with the main effort [at sea] by the Navy, but the national and state search commissions are also participating,” Salgado said. “The government’s principal and most sensitive task is to attend to the victims’ families.”
Salgado added that 31 people were missing at sea, and one person on land. Navy Minister Admiral Rafael Ojeda Durán said that the Navy has already carried out 100 searches at sea, 30 on land and 7 by air, to locate sunken boats and the bodies of missing sailors. So far, these searches have recovered 87 vessels and 17 bodies.
The update comes a month after families of missing sailors protested outside Acapulco’s Icacos Naval Base, alleging that authorities appeared to have stopped looking for their loved ones – many of whom were crew members on luxury yachts moored in Acapulco Bay. The group of protesters demanded that Governor Salgado and President López Obrador give more support to the Navy to continue and extend the search.
Nevertheless, the official count of the dead and missing from Hurricane Otis remains well below unofficial local estimates. The latest figure added only two dead and two missing to the last count given in November, while some local media have asserted that the true death toll could be up to seven times higher.
Meanwhile, efforts continue to reconstruct Acapulco’s devastated economy. The Fitch credit rating agency has estimated the losses from Hurricane Otis at US $16 billion. Although there is still extensive reconstruction to be done, there are also signs that the Pacific resort town is starting to get back on its feet, with 127 hotels partially reopening for the holiday season.
“We are going to be reporting periodically so that soon, very soon, the recovery, the rebirth of Acapulco is achieved,” the president said.
