Spring Haven Skin Care's rejuvenating cream was formulated to contain all vitamins and nutrients that the skin needs to stay healthy, supple, smooth, hydrated, radiant, and youthful. Free of chemicals, junk, and toxins that are all too often included in our skincare products. I was spending hundreds of dollars monthly for skincare products that all said they provided certain things and I never saw them truly deliver. I started buying additional oils to supplement those products and then decided just to formulate my own face cream that simply provided all that I was longing for in a skincare product, using only all-natural and high-quality ingredients. I have heard that one should be as careful about what they put on their body as what they put in their body. Our skin is our largest organ, anything applied to our skin affects our entire body, whether it be nutrients or chemicals. Since I was using A LOT of products on my skin I was concerned about preservatives, chemicals, and filler ingredients that may not be beneficial to me. I'm a nurse, in addition to being a woman and wanting youthful skin, I struggled with dry hands from constant hand washing and alcohol application. I was buying high-dollar hand creams that were nice when applied, but I never felt like I got ahead of the dry skin battle even though I applied lotions and creams continuously throughout the day. After perfecting this cream, I have found that if applied nightly I am not chasing dry skin throughout the day. I do carry a purse-size bottle with me, but very seldom do I feel the need to apply. I am very pleased to say that this cream actually does what I was always looking for in face and body lotions, and so much more!! I formulated it to use on my face, using oils that are gentle enough for the most delicate of skin but are full of vital nutrients necessary for the rejuvenation of the dermis. Some of the oils contained in this product have the ability to penetrate all 3 layers of skin to stimulate the growth of healthy skin and improve healing. I have cystic acne and have tried every face cream in the past with no improvement. I included oils in this cream that would regulate oil production. I no longer battle with dry/oily skin. For the first time in my life, I'm acne-free without taking prescription medication!! My face is simply soft and rejuvenated. In the past, over-production of oil on my face also resulted in oily hair. I no longer have to wash my hair daily! And people are telling me I look younger than my age for the first time in years! After I realized how beneficial this was applied to my face I began using this as a body cream as well. WOW!! I experienced things that I never would have thought possible. Obvious reduction in wrinkles, stretch marks, cellulite, and overall dryness. I also discovered that when this cream is applied directly to insect bites the itching stops and healing occurs very quickly. This cream has proven to reduce damage from the sun. When I have applied it to moderate sunburn, the burn is gone the next day. If used prior to sun exposure it acts as a natural sunblock. Since I'm frequently working in the brush and briars I would frequently have scratches on my arms that would take up to a week to heal and then I'd have hairline scars that would remain for months. I have noticed that with this cream those scratches are healed and not even visible within days. I no longer fear working in the brush!! The benefits of this cream are immeasurable!!

Can you share your skincare routine 👀
Tumblr media
I wash my face EVERY single morning + night NO MATTER WHAT. Make up or no make up. Left my house or didn’t leave my house. No exceptions!!!!!!!!!
Then I use toner (with a cotton pad) (morning + night)
Then I use a serum (morning + night. (sometimes I use a retinoid at night instead! I try to do that 2-3x a week)
Then I use a moisturizer (morning + night)
I try to remember to use sunscreen on my face I forget a LOT 😅 (but when I remember I like the hero force shield one! I also liked the supergoop one but I feel like it makes me super shiny).
You really have to find what products work for you and sometimes you’ll see products that worked for a long time no longer do. For example, I used to swear by acure but one of their products (serum) made my face burn/turn red so now I don’t really use it! (I do like the acure retinoid - it’s called radically rejuvenating retinoid overnight complex). I have a few brands I really love and I tend to cycle through them (also I like to catch when they are on sale or snatch up at Marshall’s when I find them!)
Right now I am using:
Face wash: neutrogena grapefruit - I’ve been using this since I was like 12 😂 has never steered me wrong!!!
Toner: bliss clear genius clarifying toner + serum
Serum: elf SKIN holy hydration triple bounce serum
Moisturizer: bliss drench & quench hyaluronic acid moisturizer (this is MY FAVORITE PRODUCT OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!)
Other products I have used and loved:
- Elf keep your balance toner
- Elf supertone toner (I don’t think they make it anymore 😭 but I found a bottle at Marshall’s recently and I can’t wait to open it when I’m done with my current toner!!!)
- Elf all the feels facial oil (can’t find this one anywhere either 😭)
- Hero force shield superfuel serum stick
- Acure face brightening vitamin C serum (this is the one that made my face burn but I used to love it)
- Acure brightening day cream
- Acure radically rejuvenating night cream and serum
Again - these are all things that I have loved and have worked for ME!! The only way to know is to just play around and experiment! What works for me might not work for you. Also you don’t have to spend a lot of money. Elf is cheap and a great product. And I know there are many other cheaper brands people swear by! I just personally do not mind spending a little extra (though I do like finding things on sale or at Marshall’s) because I LOVE all things skincare.
I also try to use the Clinique under eye serum stick (I keep it in the fridge). Tbh my mom buys it for me so I don’t know the cost 😂

Acure Brightening Day Cream
Tumblr media
Brand: Acure
Product Type: Moisturizer
Price: 19.99 USD
Size: 1.7 fl oz
✔️Vegan  ✔️Clean Ingredients  ✔️Cruelty Free  ✔️Sustainable Packaging
Star Ingredients:
Argan Oil: Hydrates
Cica, Calendula, Chamomile: Soothes redness
Pomegranate, Blackberry, & other fruit extracts: Natural sources of Vitamin C, brightens, antioxidants
Texture: Cream
Feel: Hydrated, not sticky
Scent: 🌸🌸🌸
Fairly strong citrus scent.
Results: I'm honestly not sure if this has enough brightening power on its own. I used it in conjunction with the Radically Rejuvenating Night Cream, and I noticed about a 30% reduction in the visibility of my age spot.
That being said, I'm now using it on its own, and it's not strong enough to cause photosensitivity. That to me is an indicator that, despite the fruit extracts they use, there's not a very high concentration of Vitamin C. Which is nice if you've got sensitive skin, but a downside if you're looking for fast results.
I do think it does a nice job of helping to soothe skin redness caused by the brightening regimen. It has a number of ingredients designed to do so.
Overall, it's a nice moisturizer. The argan oil is very effective at countering the dryness of the serum.
Comps: If you're looking for faster brightening results or a stronger product, I'd recommend Derma-E Vitamin C Intense Antioxidant Night Cream or Radiance-Boosting Renewing Moisturizer. Pacifica's Glow Baby line also has a number of options. Peach Slices Snail Rescue line does too, but uses snail mucin to brighten instead of Vitamin C. Snail mucin also has a number of other benefits. It's worth a look.
For more multitasking and/or gentler products, you may want to consider Earth Harbor Mermaid Milk, Bliss Drench & Quench, or iNNBEAUTY Project Next Level Moisturizer. The INKEY List Vitamin B, C, and E Moisturizer is a great lower cost option too.

hi! i hope you’re doing well. i had two questions - 1, i always see skincare gurus/guides talking about saving hyaluronic acid serums for PM - what is your opinion on this? is it still safe to use in AM ? and 2, do you know any good dupes for drunk elephant’s protini cream? thank you in advance, have a good day!
eh, you can use HA serums any time you want. HA is pretty neutral, effects-wise: its job is to hydrate, and that’s what it does. some (very few) people experience sensitivity to it (james welsh has a video on this iirc), but for most it can be used at any time, provided you have the time and patience to use it. it is quite safe to use in the AM.
as for protini dupes, i’ve never used any drunk elephant products so i can’t speak from experience, but google tells me some folks consider the TO NMF + HA cream to be pretty similar. d’alba piedmont peptide no-sebum repair cream is also mentioned as a kbeauty “dupe”. ingredients-wise, the acure radically rejuvenating whipped night cream is 91% similar, though ingredients aren’t the only factor, of course. i can’t recommend any of these brands or products apart from TO NMF cream (which is a very decent moisturizer), as i haven’t tried them either.

vit-c anon back from earlier, thank you for the recommendation! I've been following the discussion and I was wondering if you could explain how you layer your Ordinary products, especially when using the Buffet. I have it but I'm not sure where it should be in my line-up because when I initially tried it was reacting with something else and sort of rubbing off and making a mess, so I gave up.
you know, I feel like it or the niacinamide maybe used to pill for me too. I don’t have that issue anymore but I couldn’t tell you why. I don’t know what changed in my routine to keep that from happening, but ... something clearly did. So, the ordinary products I use now I think are ... *looks around* Buffet, Niacinamide, Salicylic Mask and the AHA/BHA peel. I have a ton more, but those are the only ones I use with any regularity and the Buffet and Niacinamide are the only dailies.
cut for length
Daytime, I use Buffet. I use Buffet after double-cleanse and toner, before oil and moisturizer (I have a lot of steps, I know. I have aging, very dry, acne-prone sensitive skin, and also I like long baths with lots of skincare lol). I layer it with Dear Skin’s tranexamic acid serum, which is great for hyperpigmentation.  If you also use a Hyaluronic Acid serum (I use the Hada Labo Premium, which is fabulous and very affordable), use it after any peptide serum (which Buffet is). I follow that up with a peptide cream mixed with a couple of drops of the Biossance rose squalene oil and then a light moisturizer, Make p:rem moisturize me, right now, and then Bioré Watery Essence sunscreen, which is amazing both as a sunscreen and as a primer.
Nighttime, I double cleanse, tone and use Niacinamide+1-% Zinc and Buffet. I use them at the serum stage, but in any order. So after wash and tone, but before Hyaluronic, peptide cream, tretinoin/retin-A and moisturizer.
I occasionally use their Salicylic mask, and weekly use their AHA/BHA Peel, which the the dark red peel they have. Its intense, but I quite like it.
They’ve not had it in stock for like .. a year, but I also like their Salicylic serum but it’s being reformulated because people complained of irritation.
If you absolutely can’t get Buffet to work without pilling for you and you want that muliweight peptide boost (and don’t want to pay Drunk elephant Protini Prices), there are good alternatives that aren’tas affordable as Buffet but won’t pill:
D’alba’s Peptide no sebum repair cream is about $26 and lasts quite a while--it’s a cream in a pump, and one small pump does the face and a good deal of the neck (x)
If you want a pretty much straight dupe of protini at a fraction of the cost, Acure’s Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream is an ingredient by ingredient dupe and $20 (x)

#HOLYGRAIL - I’ve been teasing this review for quite awhile now and it’s become a very popular topic of discussion in my DM’s lately! Especially because it’s a MAJOR DUPE for a Drunk Elephant fave. 😲 - Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream is a lightweight whipped superfood cream with Multi-Peptides, Vitamin C, Ferulic Acid, and Glacial Glycoproteins to soothe and hydrate. Not only is this baby PACKED with results-oriented ingredients, it’s 100% Vegan, Paraben, Sulfate, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, and Formaldehyde Free making it a #cleanbeauty lovers dream!! - Now down to the nitty gritty. I found this while looking for budget-friendly (less controversial) alternatives to the cult-favorite Drunk Elephant Protini and the truth is, after using it for the past couple of months, I think I actually like it more! The ingredients are VERY similar to Protini (see my breakdown in photos) with the major differences being that Protini does contain an assortment of beneficial Amino Acids (and quite a few more preservatives like Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benoate, Xanthan Gum, etc.). Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream instead contains Glacial Glycoproteins which hydrates, smoothes, retains skin’s natural water reserves, and helps to protect skin from extreme temperatures. Additionally you’ll find Ferulic Acid, an antioxidant that decreases that formation of fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots, and other signs of premature aging. It also Boost the effects of Vitamin C and Vitamin E. While I’m typically quite sensitive to Vitamin C, my skin responds so well to this moisturizer which may be the result of the Ferulic Acid which when used in conjunction with other antioxidants has the ability to increase their efficacy and make them more stable. - For texture, this is less Protini gel/cream and very similar to the DE Lala Retro™ Whipped Moisturizer which feels rich and whipped but absorbs quickly w/o leaving the skin feeling heavy or tacky. In my opinion, @Acure has truly created a winner with their Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream and at a jaw dropping $19.99 for 1.7 FL. OZ. it’s and absolute MUST TRY! Are They Dupes?: Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream Vs Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream
Stop the press! I’ve finally found a dupe for Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream – and it’s less than half the price!
The catch? Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream is NOT suitable for everyone. Some skin types will like it more than others. Are you one of the lucky few? Read on:
Peptides
Both Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream and Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream contain the same peptides (A LOT of them):
sh-Oligopeptide-1: a.k.a. Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), it sends signals to molecules to stimulate cell growth and healing. It’s safe for 99% of people, but if you have skin cancer avoid. You want EGF to produce new healthy cells, not new cancer cells.
sh-Oligopeptide-2: a.k.a. Insulin-like growth factor 1, it belongs to the same Growth Factors family as sh-Oligopeptide-1. It does the same thing: stimulates cell growth and wound healing. Studies show they work even better when used together. Again, this is safe for everyone NOT affected by skin cancer.
sh-Polypeptide-1: a.k.a. Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor, it stimulates the growth of fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen. In other words, it helps your skin makes more collagen. Like other EGFs, it’s safe unless you apply it directly on skin cancer.
sh-Polypeptide-9: a.k.a. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, it stimulates the formation of blood vessels to supply collagen-making cells with all the nutrients they need. It also helps them heal faster. Use it only on healthy skin.
sh-Polypeptide-11: a.k.a. Acidic Fibroblast Growth Factor, it stimulates the growth of collagen-making cells, skin regeneration and wound healing. Use it on healthy skin only.
Copper Palmitoyl Heptapeptide-14: it strengthens the skin’s protective barrier, boosts collagen and makes skin plumper.
Heptapeptide-15 Palmitate: a peptide that transports Copper Palmitoyl Heptapeptide-14 to collagen-making cells so it can work its magic on them.
Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: part of Matrixyl 3000, it helps strengthen the skin’s protective barrier and soothe sensitive skin.
Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1: part of Matrixyl 3000, it helps stimulate the production of collagen and firm skin.
I’m sceptical of peptides. Most of these studies were done in vitro (NOT on real skin) by the manufacturers. Not the most unbiased source!
Having said that, there’s enough independent evidence that copper peptides can keep skin in a constant state of repair and help firm skin. If you want to give those a try, both creams are worth a go.
FYI, Growth Factors do not cause cancer. But like everything else in your body, they can feed it. Dr. John and Dr. George, authors of barefacedtruth.com say it best:
We do not believe that EGF causes cancer. Period. There is much research about how cancers use EGF and other growth factors and their receptors to further their agenda of growth at all costs. But the same can be said of the ability of cancers to beg, borrow, or steal blood, oxygen, nutrients, and everything else they need for growth, often at the dire expense of tissues, organs or the whole organism. In short – that is the very nature of cancer and why it is dangerous – but that is not the nature of EGF. To blame EGF would be like blaming amino acids, carbs, fats, vitamins, minerals, hormones, etc. (cancers use them all). But you should think of EGF as the stolen object, not the thief. To the extent that cancers may co opt EGF, well then so does healing tissue after a surgery, or skin after damage by the sun.  There is no scientific evidence that EGF applied to skin in any dose causes cancer.  But then you don’t want to apply it to known skin cancers either. That is common sense. Knowing your own skin, and the signs of skin cancer, and promptly presenting to your doctor if you perceive any changes is the reasonable caution there.

Moisturising Base
Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream and Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream don’t just use the same peptides. 99% of the moisturising ingredients that make up the bulk of the cream are the same too:

Amino Acids Vs Antioxidants
So far, I’ve focused on what Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream and Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream have in common. They’re almost perfect dupes.
I say almost because Drunk Elephant chose to go with amino acids, while Acure is loaded with antioxidants. Let’s start with them.
Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream has vitamin C, ferulic acid and turmeric, all antioxidants proven to fight the free radicals that give you wrinkles and dark spots. Granted, there’s only a sprinkle of them here but hey, every little bit helps.
Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream has every amino acids you can think of. Amino acids do all kinds of things for your skin, from fighting free radicals (histidine), to boosting collagen (proline) and helping skin heal faster (arginine).
Which one is better for anti-aging? Hard to say. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. A better approach is, what is your skincare missing?
If it’s low on amino acids, go with Drunk Elephant. If you could do with more antioxidants, Acure is the better choice.

What Else Do You Need To Know?
The other main difference between Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream and Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream is their texture.
Drunk Elephant has a lightweight gel texture that sinks in quickly without leaving a greasy residue behind. It’s suitable for all skin types, including oily and acne-prone.
Acure has a much heavier cream texture. It takes a while to sink in and can feel heavy on some skin types. I’d recommend it only to dry skin.
Which Of The Two Should You Go For?
If you’re looking for a peptide cream, both Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream and Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream will do. But which one is better for YOU? It depends on your skin type and needs:
Go with Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream if:
You have combination, oily, acne-prone skin
You need more amino acids in your skincare routine
You prefer gel textures
Choose Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream if:
You have dry skin
You need more antioxidants in your skincare routine
You prefer cream textures
You’re on a budget and willing to compromise on texture
Availability

Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream ($19.99): available at Acure, iHerb and Target
Is Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream A Dupe For Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream?
Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream isn’t an exact dupe for Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream – but it’s close enough. If it’s a peptide cream you want, both will do the trick. But Acure is better for dry skin, while Drunk Elephant is suitable for all skin types.

Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream
Tumblr media
Brand: Acure
Product Type: Moisturizer
Price: 21.99 USD
Size: 1.7 fl oz
✔️Vegan  ✔️Clean Ingredients  ✔️Cruelty Free  ✔️Sustainable Packaging
Star Ingredients:
Multi-Peptides: Diminishes fine lines and wrinkles
Vitamin C: Brightens
Ferulic Acid: Brightens; helps restore and protect skin
Glacial Glycoproteins: Hydrates
Texture: Cream
Feel: Bit sticky
Scent: 🌸🌸🌸
This has a noticeable smell and it's kind of funny. I think this is from the ferulic acid because the brightening serum has the same base layer to the scent. This night cream doesn't smell as strongly as the serum.
Results: I quite liked this product. It had a nice feel to it for a night cream - goes on a bit sticky but absorbs fairly fast - and while it does have a noticeable scent, I felt like it was more pleasant than some of the other products I was trying.
I tried using this in conjunction with the Brightening Vitamin C & Ferulic Acid Serum for a bit, but I found that my skin became too photosensitive using both the serum and night cream. In the end, I gave up the serum and used the night cream by itself. I felt like it was gentle enough for daily use and didn't make me photosensitive when used on its own at night.
I have noticed that my age spot appears to have lightened somewhat while using this cream and the Brightening Cleansing Gel. I'd say it's about 30% lighter than it used to be, which is pretty cool.
Comps: When I look for comps, I always try to find clean products that work similarly but are priced a little lower than whatever I'm talking about. However, this product tackles a lot of skin concerns and uses a certain combination of ingredients not often found in less expensive products.
That being said, I think a fair comp under 20 USD is Provence Beauty Deep Bleu Cloud Night Moisturizer. It has P5 peptide, shea butter, squalane, and hyaluronic acid. Not a bad deal.
It you're able to go a little more expensive, Derma E has a number of night creams in their various lines. Vitamin C Intense Night Cream is probably going to be the closest match in terms of what it's trying to do. You also may want to check out the Advanced Peptides & Flora-Collagen Night Moisturizer.
You could also try Andalou Naturals Resveratrol Q10 Night Cream or Purple Carrot + C Luminous Night Cream. Both as priced around the same as Derma E products.

Andalou Naturals Purple Carrot + C Luminous Night Cream
Tumblr media
Brand: Andalou Naturals
Product Type: Moisturizer
Price: 28.99 USD
Size: 1.7 fl oz
✔️Cruelty Free  ✔️Sustainable Packaging
Star Ingredients:
Fruit Stem Cells & Bioactive Berry Complex: Protects and soothes skin.
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate: A more stable form of Vitamin C than Ascorbic Acid. Skin brightener. Antioxidant. Data also shows it can boost collagen synthesis.
Purple Carrot: Rich in anthocyanin antioxidants.
Aloe, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cocoa Butter, Flax, Sunflower, Rosehip, Avocado, Evening Primrose & Squalane Oils: Hydrates.
Rooibos: Brightening.
Texture: Thick Cream
Feel: Quick absorbing, hydrating
Scent: 🌸🌸🌸🌸
All Andalou Naturals products have a pretty strong smell due to the fruit stem cells and bioactive berry complex they use as the base in their formulas. This has a fruity smell very similar to the night cream from Andalou Naturals Age Defying line.
Results: The good thing about Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) is that it’s more stable than Ascorbic Acid, and thus better for use in cosmetics. New data shows that it helps in collagen synthesis and as a skin brightener. It’s not clear yet though just how well it converts to AA and absorbs into the skin. So I think the tradeoff here is power vs. stability. If you are looking for change over time, I think this is a good product for you. If you want immediate results, you may want to try something different.
I didn’t have any photosensitivity with this formula, which is a plus. I also didn’t notice any increased skin redness. That being said, it does feel kind of tingly when you first apply it. I kept an eye on it though, and I didn’t see any outward changes that accompanied the tingling, so maybe it has something to do with MAP converting to AA as its absorbed by the skin?
I liked this product. I thought it was effective as a nighttime moisturizer. It didn’t require any additional support for my skin to feel hydrated. I bring that up because sometimes I supplement my moisturizer with a few drops of facial oil. But in this case, I think there are so many ingredients for hydration, it’s really effective.
I cannot speak to longterm benefits, as I only had a deluxe sample, which I used for a couple of weeks. It’s not really a long enough trial to notice if it worked as a skin brightener. I mean, I don’t doubt that it will, but like I said, MAP seems to be an ingredient that will work best over a longer period of time.
Comps: As always, I want to point out that Vitamin C is expensive, mostly because it is so difficult to work with. Options that are lower in price than this product are limited.
Within the same price range and also containing probiotics is Derma-E Vitamin C Renewing Moisturizer and Vitamin C Intense Night Cream. It has the additional brightening power of rooibos. Uses Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate as its form of Vitamin C, which is also a stabilized formulation.
INNBeauty Project Next Level Moisturizer is also within this price range and contains bilberry extract as its source of Vitamin C. It also has niacinamide in it, so this might be a good pick if you want to address skin texture and enlarged pores as well.
Bliss Bright Idea Vitamin C + Tri-Peptide Moisturizer is also a good pick in this price range, and contains collagen-boosting peptides for additional anti-aging power.
Acure has several options for Vitamin C moisturizers. First, check out their Brightening line. It has day cream and night cream options. Secondly, look at the Radically Rejuvenating line, which combines the power of anti-aging ingredients like bakuchiol with rejuvenating Vitamin C. There’s day and night cream options here too. And the cool thing about Acure is that they usually have an option with SPF in it too.
Pacifica’s Glow Baby line also has several options for moisturizers with Vitamin C. Check the ingredients because they use different forms in different products. For example, the VitaGlow Face Lotion uses Ascorbic Acid, while the Hydrodew Moisture Gel uses Tetrahexyldecylascorbate and Kakadu Plum. These products also might be recommended for different skin types, so definitely read the details. You could also try their Vegan Collagen Overnight Recovery Cream, which has Vitamin C and other ingredients to help restore skin.
As a lower cost option, you could try The INKEY List B, C, & E Moisturizer. Or purchase Vitamin C powder and add it to your favorite moisturizer.

Andalou Naturals Probiotic + C Renewal Cream
Tumblr media
Brand: Andalou Naturals
Product Type: Moisturizer
Price: 28.99 USD
Size: 1.7 fl oz
✔️Vegan  ✔️Clean Ingredients  ✔️Cruelty Free  ✔️Sustainable Packaging
Star Ingredients:
Fruit Stem Cells & Bioactive Berry Complex: Protects and soothes skin.
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate: A more stable form of Vitamin C than Ascorbic Acid. Skin brightener. Antioxidant. Data also shows it can boost collagen synthesis.
Probiotics: Helps protect and repair skin’s microbiome.
Aloe, Shea Butter, Jojoba, Sunflower, & Squalane Oils: Hydrates.
Calendula & Camellia: Powerhouse ingredients that tackle a whole host of concerns like moisture retention, skin redness; has antioxidant properties as well.
Texture: Lightweight cream
Feel: Light moisture, not very sticky
Scent: 🌸🌸🌸🌸
All Andalou Naturals products have a pretty strong smell due to the fruit stem cells and bioactive berry complex they use as the base in their formulas. This particular cream is orange blossom-like. It’s not unpleasant and gave me the same sort of boost that aromatherapy with essential oils does.
I kept an eye on it though, and I didn’t see any outward changes that accompanied the tingling, so maybe it has something to do with MAP converting to AA as its absorbed by the skin? Or something to do with the probiotics? Hard to say.
I liked this product. I thought it was effective as a daytime moisturizer.
For example, the VitaGlow Face Lotion uses Ascorbic Acid, while the Hydrodew Moisture Gel uses Tetrahexyldecylascorbate and Kakadu Plum. These products also might be recommended for different skin types, so definitely read the details.
Finally, the most inexpensive option I found for Vitamin C moisturizers is The INKEY List Vitamin B, C, & E Moisturizer. This is only 12.99USD, which makes it the biggest bargain.
As always, if you don’t like any of these options, you might consider buying a Vitamin C powder - both Good Molecules and The Ordinary carry this; I’m sure other brands do too if you don’t like either of those - and adding a small amount to your daily moisturizer, mixing these together in your palms at application. It’s a less expensive way to incorporate Vitamin C into your routine, and you may like the ability to play around and customize the strength of your formulation. Just remember to start small and gradually increase usage. Vitamin C can cause photosensitivity. That means you’ll burn easily in sunlight. Don’t forget your SPF!

Dermalogica BioLumin-C Vitamin C Serum
Tumblr media
Brand: Dermalogica
Product Type: Serum
Price: 89.00 USD
Size: 1 fl oz
✔️Vegan ✔️Clean Ingredients ✔️Cruelty Free ✔️Sustainable Packaging
Star Ingredients:
Lactic Acid: For hyperpigmentation and age spots.
Chia Seed Oil: For antioxidants and omega-3s.
Sophora Japonica Flower Extract: Calming antioxidant.
Vitamin-C Complex: Brightens and reduces appearance of wrinkles.
Texture: Watery
Feel: Moisturizing
After washing with the Glycolic Cleanser, this felt like a drink of water.
Scent: 🌸 🌸
Present but not overpowering.
Results: So, first, a little about Dermalogica products in general. I think it’s important to note that they’re all expensive. Ordinarily, I would never have been able to afford this. It’s just not in my budget to spend this much money on a cleanser. A relative gave me a couple free mini kits.
I know people talk up Dermalogica products a lot, but I felt like this was a shitshow. It’s a really strong serum, which I knew so I was careful to use SPF, but I burned even while wearing SPF and makeup. Maybe other people have better luck with this product, but that was not my experience.
Also, the price is outrageous. I think there are much cheaper, not to mention gentler, Vitamin C serums out there.
Comps: Vitamin C serums are always a bit pricey, but it’s possible to find some good ones that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Mad Hippie’s is 34 USD. Derma-E’s is 24 USD. Cocokind has one for 20 USD. You could also try serums with Vitamin C derivatives like Ascorbyl Glucoside, which will have the same effect as Vitamin C, but are generally a bit more stable.
Another alternative is to use a Vitamin C additive. For example, Good Molecules sells a 20G tub of Vitamin C powder for 8 USD. Adding a small pinch of this to your favorite base oil or moisturizer just before application is a great way to get that Vitamin C boost without breaking the bank. Double-check though and make sure your oil/moisturizer doesn’t have ingredients that will interact with Vitamin C. And remember as always to start with a small amount, do a test patch, and then gradually increase your usage.
My final thought is to try a multipurpose product with Vitamin C in it. There are some good day and/or night creams out there with Vitamin C. Good Molecules’ Triple-C Night Cream is a possibility. So is Derma-E’s Intense Vitamin C Night Cream. If that’s still out of your price range, try looking at Acure. They have a Brightening line, which uses a lot of Vitamin C, as well as the Radically Rejuvenating line, which uses brightening ingredients paired with age-defying ingredients. And then there’s Pacifica’s Glow Baby line, which is about on par with Acure for price.
The point is, yes, Vitamin C is expensive, but there are more economical ways of bringing it into your routine than this particular product.

Mad Hippie Triple C Night Cream
Tumblr media
Brand: Mad Hippie
Product Type: Moisturizer
Price: 32.99 USD
Size: 2.1 fl oz
✔️Vegan ✔️Clean Ingredients ✔️Cruelty Free ✔️Sustainable Packaging
Star Ingredients:
Triple C: 3 forms of bioavailable Vitamin C.
Reishi and Chaga: Adaptogens.
Shea Butter: Hydrates; high in fatty acids.
Cloudberry and Turmeric: Antioxidants.
Squalane and Sodium Hyaluronate: Moisturizers.
Ceramides: Improves skin barrier.
Texture: Creamy
Feel: Sticky
This stuff stays on your face all night. Takes a really long time to absorb.
Scent: 🌸🌸🌸
Pretty strong floral scent.
Results: Some people report having a bad reaction to this, to which I want to remind you that not everyone’s skin reacts the same way. This product has a lot of active ingredients, so it’s hard to say what you might react to. Vitamin C makes skin photosensitive, so use SPF during the day while using this product, for sure. Do a test patch 24-hours before use.
That being said, I found this to be deeply hydrating. I don’t really see a difference between moisturizers and creams. At this point, they are promising you the same things: hydration, usually with some form of added treatment or benefit. So I used this AM and PM. I just halved the amount used in the AM. Worked great. Then laid on a CC cream with SPF on top. That was adequate protection from the sun for me.
Comps: You could try Andalou Naturals’ Q10 Night Repair Cream or Derma-E’s Intense Vitamin C Night Cream for slightly less expensive but similar products. Acure’s Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream is also a strong contender, though I have found their products tend to smell strongly, if scent is a consideration for you.

Andalou Naturals Resveratrol Q10 Night Repair Cream
Tumblr media
Brand: Andalou Naturals
Product Type: Moisturizer
Price: 28.99 USD
Size: 1.7 fl oz
✔️Vegan ✔️Clean Ingredients ✔️Cruelty Free ✔️Sustainable Packaging
Star Ingredients:
Fruit Stem Cells, Resveratrol CoQ10: Help restore skin’s vitality.
Goji Berry Glycopeptides: Help tone and texture; reduce appearance of wrinkles.
Bioactive Berry Complex: Antioxidants.
Aloe Vera, Cocoa Butter, Sodium Hyaluronate, Avocado Oil, Rosehip Oil, Squalane: Moisturizers.
Borage, Evening Primrose, Vitamin C: Help brighten and tone.
Camellia: Soothes.
Texture: Cream
Feel: Sticky
This is a thick moisturizer and it sits on your face for most of the night.
Scent: 🌸
Mild.
Results: So this is one of my ‘gift set experiments,’ where I bought a couple of Andalou Naturals’ Get Started Age Defying Kit while they were on sale. I went through two of them, which was a pretty significant trial period.
This cream is loaded with good-for-you stuff, but I didn’t really see any effect. Still, it was nice to apply and go to sleep, and feel like I was doing something good for myself. It’s a little high in price for me though, so I’ll probably give it a pass in the future.
Comps: Well, here’s the thing. Not a lot of brands out there are using CoQ10 in their face creams. I found Mad Hippie Face Cream. The other ones I could find weren’t certified Clean Ingredients.
That being said, you could try Derma-E Vitamin C Intense Antioxidant Night Cream or Acure Radically Rejuvenating Night Cream for the same kind of multi-benefit approach.
Ulta Beauty Collection Rapidly Renew Overnight Renewal Cream also has Bakuchiol, the same retinol alternative that’s used in Acure’s Radically Rejuvenating line.
And Sephora Collection Firming Night Cream with Peptides is going to have a similar anti-aging effect with the added bonus of being scent free.
